PoliticsDSS Denies Dispersing Doctors Who Went For interview Organised By Saudi Arabia by stephanie11(op): 9:25am On Aug 27, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The Department of State Security Services, DSS, has denied dispersing doctors at a Job interview organised by Saudi Arabian officials in Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.

In a statement signed by PRO, Dr. Peter Afunanya, made available to POLITICS NIGERIA on Friday morning, the Secret agency disclosed that no operation was carried out in the hotel.

"The attention of the Department of State Services has once again been drawn to a falsehood being circulated in the media that it dispersed doctors attending a Saudi Arabia organised job interview at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, yesterday 26th August, 2021."

"Though this is illogical and does not add up, sections of the media that reported it did not care to verify the news before going to print. No further evidence was also adduced to prove that the DSS carried out such operation at the hotel. It is obvious that the news is only designed to embarrass the Organisation."

"Journalists and other media practitioners are enjoined to crosscheck their facts and ensure that they do not use their platforms to mislead the public or undermine national security."

PoliticsBREAKING: “you Deliberately Destroyed Nigeria” – Ortom Attacks Buhari Again by stephanie11(op): 4:11pm On Aug 26, 2021
POLITICSNGERIA.COM

The Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom has doubled down on his criticisms against the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Ortom in a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA on Thursday afternoon, lampooned the President again stating that he(Buhari) has deliberately destroyed Nigeria. He also called on the Presidency to address the issues stated in his earlier statement criticising their performance since taking power in 2015.

“We read the statement released by the Presidency in response to Governor Samuel Ortom’s recent interview on Channels Television in which he raised a number of concerns bordering on the worsening security situation across the country.”

“The tone of the said statement shows the quality of Presidency Nigeria currently has. They abandoned the message and went for the messenger. To describe as ‘undistinguished’, the career of a man who has held many key positions at the state and national levels proves that those who penned the piece were under the influence of some negative substances.”

“For the information of Garba Shehu and his cohorts, Governor Ortom rose to become a Local Government Chairman, State Publicity Secretary of National Centre Party of Nigeria; State Treasurer of All People’s Party, State Secretary as well as State Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Auditor of PDP, Minister of the Federal Republic and now a two-term Governor.”

“The Governor spoke the minds of most Nigerians on specific areas of failure of the Presidency and its complicity in the heinous crimes committed against citizens by armed Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists. Instead of taking the Governor on those points, Shehu went chasing vain and mundane matters in a desperate attempt to malign the Governor.”

“We demand an apology from the Presidency for accusing Governor Ortom of stirring ethnic tensions and calling for genocide. The Presidency has never hidden its hatred for the Governor and its latest outing only confirms that fact.”

“We are aware of the Presidency’s plot to cause crisis in Benue and make the state ungovernable and declare a state of emergency. Whenever each of their plans fails as it happened with the impeachment attempt on the Governor before the 2019 elections, they resort to cheap blackmail.”

“They accuse Governor Ortom of making a law to chase Fulanis out of Benue; a claim that lacks substance and only goes to prove that they have not read the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state. They can’t justify their narrative that Governor Ortom hates Fulanis when some of his appointees are Fulani.”

“The Presidency must realize that no amount of blackmail and media attack can discourage the Governor from speaking against the injustice and pain the present government has caused Nigerians. No amount of sponsored smear campaigns against the Governor can force him to repeal the law on open grazing of cattle in Benue State.”

“We advise the Presidency to focus on ending the killing of innocent Nigerians, fix the economy as it promised and stop the stinking corruption under their watch.”

“They can’t run away from their responsibility. They were brought to power to serve the country not to oppress the people and suppress their freedom of speech. They are on record to have publicly promised during their campaigns before the 2015 elections that they would respect the rights and freedoms of Nigerians if elected. Sadly, what the people of this country have got from the current government is the opposite of that promise.”

“Governor Ortom stands by his words that this is not the first time a Fulani man is President of Nigeria, and also that it is the first time the country has been divided on ethnic lines with lopsided appointments in promotion and celebration of nepotism, marginalization and open repugnance of other Nigerians. At no time in the history of this country have impunity, blatant disregard for laws, sectarian as well as ethnic differences been fueled by the government as we now see.”

“The agenda of the present administration is to Islamize and Fulanize the nation like former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Kunle Olawunmi and other patriotic Nigerians have rightly said.”

“Governor Ortom urges the good people of this country to call the Presidency to order before it destroy Nigeria. If nothing is done fast to avert the impending disaster, armed herders, bandits and other terrorists will one day take over Aso Rock Villa and those occupying the Villa at the moment will willingly surrender to them and flee from the country.”

“No day passes without reports of herdsmen and other terrorists killing defenseless Nigerians in parts of the country. The number of displaced people has risen to millions, yet, the Presidency wants everyone to remain silent while the country burns.”

“Governor Samuel Ortom will not keep mute! Let it be on record that while the Presidency deliberately destroyed Nigeria, someone spoke against the evil.”

“The Governor believes in the words of Dr Martin Luther King jnr:

“If peace means accepting second class citizenship, I dont want it. If peace means keeping my mouth shut in the midst of injustice and evil, I dont want it. If peace means being complacently adjusted to a deadning status-quo, I dont want peace. If peace means a willingness to be exploited economically, dominated polically, humiliated and segregated, I dont want peace.”

PoliticsNBC Query Letter To Channels TV Over Ortom Interview by stephanie11(op): 2:52pm On Aug 26, 2021
A letter reportedly sent to Channels Television by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, querying them for interviewing the Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom has finally emerged.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Publisher, Omoyele Sowore attacked the Buhari administration for reportedly threatening to suspend Channels over the interview with Ortom.

The letter, which can be seen below, the NBC queried the TV station for violating broadcast codes by airing Ortom's interview which was described as 'divisive' and 'inciting'.

The letter read; The National Broadcasting Commission monitored the broadcast of your programme Sunrise Daily between 7am and 9am on Tuesday August 24, 2021.

The programme which had as guest the Executive Governor of Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortom was observed to contain inciting, divisive and unfair comments which were not thoroughly interrogated by the anchors. These negate the following provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code;

Section 1.10.4: "The Broadcaster shall ensure that its Presenter.....shall handle it with professionalism and sound judgment to ensure that it does not loose focus or lead to unfair treatment or institution”

Section 3.1.1: “No broadcast shall encourage or incite to crime, lead to public disorder or hate, be repugnant to public feelings or contain offensive reference or organization alive or dead...”

Section 3.3.1(b): “the broadcaster shall ensure that all sides to any issue of public interest are equitably presented for fairness and balance”

Section 3.3.1(e): "the broadcaster shall not treat any individual or organization in an unjust or unfair manner”

Section 3.11.1(a): “the broadcaster shall ensure that language....likely to encourage or incite to crime or lead to disorder is not broadcast”.

Section 3.12.2: "the broadcaster shall not transmit a program that incites or likely to incite to violence among the populace, causing mass panic, political and social upheaval, security breach and general social disorder"

Consequently, Channels Television is required to explain why appropriate sanctions should not be applied for these infractions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. Your response should reach the Commission within 24 hours of receipt of this letter.

PoliticsAudacity Of Fake News: Army Recruiting Boko Haram Members? - Fredrick Nwabufo by stephanie11(op): 9:08am On Aug 26, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

It is my deduction that fake news is fecundated by prejudice; prejudices whether ethnic, political or religious. Nigeria’s social media dome is a hang-out for lies, malice and bigotry. Falsehood in this seemingly anonymous quarter is oxygenated by hate and bias. The canard of the Nigerian Army recruiting repentant Boko Haram insurgents, for example, has been rippling because it fits into the prevailing solitary narrative and slant.

It is really startling to see well-certificated Nigerians gobbling and vectoring fallacies because they suit their bias. These ones advertise ‘’certificated ignorance’’ with vanity titles on their bios. How can anyone who has gone through the tedious mill of pedagogy and who makes pretensions to high academic qualifications resolve without a scintilla of proof that the nation’s military is absorbing terrorists? Is it a case of ‘’certificated ignorance’’ or deliberate mischief?

It makes absolutely no sense that a ‘’PhD holder’’ will choose to believe the nattering of internet infestations but disregard obtrusive facts. In scholarship, there is methodology – a process in arriving at conclusions. Theories and arguments must be tested and verified. But why do some cast aside the diligence and thoroughness that come with education to promote falsehood?

The surrendering of some Boko Haram fighters has effectuated cynicism and suspicion among Nigerians. Nigerians have a reason to be sceptical about the mass capitulation of the insurgents, especially as the military authorities handed some of them placards, saying ‘’Nigerians forgive us’’ and making drama of the entire matter.

Personally, I believe that performance was unnecessary. It is only counter-productive. These are people who are unlettered and whose hands have been made unclean by the blood of the innocents they killed without provocation. It is customary to allow the surrendering of enemy forces. But I do not think it is decent to make a lachrymal show out of the submission of suspected killers. That violates the sensibilities of their victims – widows, orphans and those who lost precious ones.

The surrendering of insurgents is a tactical breakthrough if only it will bring an end to the decade-old war in the north-east. But the war still rages, and already the government is rehabilitating and reintegrating these ‘’repentant outlaws’’. It is natural that Nigerians will want to proceed with cautious optimism and cynicism since terrorism is still much alive in the region.

Reacting to the pervasive apprehension over the reformation of insurgents, Lucky Irabor, chief of defence staff, asked Nigerians to trust the rehabilitation of the repentant insurgents. A statement issued by Benjamin Sawyerr, defence spokesman, on Tuesday, said: “On the recent fear and apprehension making the rounds about the mass surrendering of Boko Haram/ISWAP ex-members, the CDS reassured Nigerians to trust the relevant agencies that have been tasked with responsibility of planning the rehabilitation of repented insurgents.”

Rehabilitation offers an exit path for insurgents seeking absolution. But Nigerians would like to see those who took up arms against the state, killing citizens pay for their crimes. It is a knotty convergence of expedient policy and moral justice.

But is the army recruiting repentant Boko Haram members? While the military through ‘Operation Safe Corridor’ has been rehabilitating insurgents, there is no official record of the enlistment of former insurgents into the army. We should give our armed forces some credit. It is acute mischief to spread injurious falsehood that has the potency of desiccating citizen/law enforcement cohesion.

The military is about the most organised of all Nigerian institutions – forged in discipline, formulaic procedures and principles. Over the years the army has come out to dispel the speculation that it is recruiting former insurgents. It had to double down on its position on Wednesday as the fiction remains animated.

Onyema Nwachukwu, army spokesman, said: “For the avoidance of doubt, the NA does not have any repentant terrorist joining its ranks and does not have any plan for that. There are teeming able-bodied Nigerians that are willing to join the NA to genuinely help in the fight against terrorism and other violent crimes. The campaign of falsehood embarked upon by some individuals who do not wish the nation well cannot distract its personnel from their resolve to bring an end to the violent crimes in the country.”

I have done some digging seeking answers from confidants in the military circles and some trusted sources, but there is no verisimilitude in the pesky rumour. At most, some former insurgents are used as informants and baits to capture ‘’bigger fishes’’. I also learnt that the surrendering of insurgents is purely intelligence-driven. There is more to it than meets the eye.

Fake news remains fossilised as long as the triggers are operative. Ethnic, religious and political biases fecundate falsehood here.

The fake news of the army recruiting former Boko Haram insurgents dovetails with the ‘’northernisation of the military conspiracy theory’’. This falsehood has rippled for long because it fits perfectly into the prevailing ethnic and sectional prejudices.

The fight against banditry and insurgency is a collective effort. We should not help in the propaganda of the enemy.

Defend Nigeria.

PoliticsFred Nwabufo: Can We Expunge "Northerner, Southerner" From Nigerian Lexicon? by stephanie11(op): 12:26am On Aug 21, 2021
National affability has much to do with what we think of one another; how we talk to one another, and what we call one another. As nugatory as this may appear to be, the content of our dialogues and multilogue – caustic and vile – in our cocoons on social media and interactions with other Nigerians escalate recriminations, and deepen stereotypes and contorted perceptions. Bala gets a raw deal from Emeka, and he gears into pejoratives, ‘’southerners are dishonest’’. Tunde’s relationship with Dahiru hits the nadir, and he goes, ‘’northerners are vicious’’. In these instances, ‘’northerners and southerners’’ have become offenders vicariously in transactions between individuals.

The sectional tags – ‘’northerner and southerner’’ are subliminal stereotypes that we have come to normalise. Although the tags should ordinarily be for the geographical taxonomy of where a citizen comes from, in the case of Nigeria this meaning has been inverted. Calling a Nigerian ‘’northerner’’ or ‘’southerner’’ is often suffused with innuendos, and a form of labelling.

Tags can be unfading for their power to hang on subconsciously. It becomes reflexive to throttle into the ‘’northerners/southerners are that like’’ trope. We must be conscious of the potency of tags and do well to keep our conversations and interactions benign. Little annoyances stoke the tension. Whatever does not amplify the unity of Nigeria ossifies disharmony; so, should be discarded.

Tags like ‘’southerner’’ and ‘’northerner’’ emphasise division, and accents the polarity of the north and the south. Instead of being ‘’northerners’’ and ‘’southerners’’ can we just be Nigerians? This may appear to be a tough call or some idealist longing, but it is possible. It takes deliberate effort on the part of the government in policy formulation and direction on national cohesion, and citizens in our public statements, interactions and actions. A national epiphany and rebirth is conceivable. There must be a systematic approach to promoting national geniality. The government has a principal place in achieving this as well as the citizens.

For me, since I became aware of the insidious quality of these sectional tags, I have made intentional efforts to flush my mind of the vermin. It is not an easy process as these tags are common in our public conversations and have attained normality. But ‘’change begins with me’’.

Preserving Nigeria’s peace, unity and security is everybody’s business. It is in our best interest to keep the peace and to keep Nigeria steady on the wheels. There is no salvation anywhere – in the US or in Europe. Justice, compassion, and fairness do not govern the global system; only interest rules. We should love our country, and defend its interest. The ‘’world’’ cannot do for us what we must do for Nigeria. In fact, "international community" does not exist in practical terms. At the global level there is only a Babel of interests.

The world watched as the killings in Rwanda persisted in 1994 for 100 days. While the country was up in an orgy of bloodletting, the ‘’international community’’ was observing diplomatic niceties and some drinking tea in meetings. About 1.1 million citizens killed. The genocide ended because Rwandans resolved to end it.

The world watched Boko Haram at its apogee of terror in Nigeria. The US even refused to sell weapons to the country when the terrorist group had its claws deep in Nigeria’s throat -- and with many citizens abducted by the insurgents. It is in our hands as Nigerians to preserve our peace and security. There is no salvation in the US, the UK or any foreign power. It is our journey, and it is our cross to bear alone. We are the potter; we will build Nigeria with our own hands.

Let me reproduce here an ecclesiastical allegory written by Mr Tony Dara, media mogul and passionate advocate of a united Nigeria, which he shared with me.

He wrote: ‘’Luke 18:18-30 (here is an attempt to juxtapose Nigeria in this heavenly conversation).

‘’The Rich Ruler (the Nigerian)

‘’And a ruler (a Nigerian) asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life (to have a great Nigeria)?” And Jesus (Man of Wisdom) said to him, “why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery (faithful to Nigeria); do not murder (no harm to others); do not steal (content with what he has); do not bear false witness (give accurate account), honour your father and mother (respect societal values).’” And he said: “All these I have kept from my youth.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor (give all to Nigeria), and you will have treasure in heaven (in Nigeria); and come, follow me (become a nationhood servant not master).” But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich (SELFISH, SELF-SERVING). Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said: “How difficult it is for those who have wealth (who are selfish and self-serving) to enter (build) the kingdom of God (Nigeria), for it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person (Nigerians as we are) to enter the kingdom of God (to build Nigeria).” Those who heard it said: “Then who can be saved (who then will serve Nigeria)?” But he said: “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” And Peter (a Nigerian) said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you (we are determined).” And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God (Nigeria), who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life (Nigeria is a VERY BLESSED LAND).”

Indeed, Nigeria is a blessed land. A new and better Nigeria is all in our hands. Instead of chronic negativity and visceral tearing down of the country, let us work at it. It begins with what we do in our neighbourhoods; in traffic, in our offices, in our schools, in public places, and even in our religious houses.

PoliticsFact-Check: No Taliban Flag Was Hoisted In NEMA's Office by stephanie11(op): 5:36pm On Aug 17, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

In the wake of terror group, the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, rumours of the same happening in Nigeria due to incessant attacks from Boko Haram and Bandits are being peddled on Social Media.

Amidst all this, a picture, now viral, surfaced online on Monday night alleging that the Taliban's flag was hoisted at the office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in solidarity with the Islamist group.

In it's pursuit of accountability and Truth, POLITICS NIGERIA decided to investigate the authenticity of the Image and furnish the public with its findings.

CLAIM: On August 15th, precisely around 9:53PM, an image of three flags; the Nigerian Flag, the official flag of NEMA and a flag with Arabic inscriptions, was posted online by a Twitter User, @olufemiSP, with the following caption;

"Nigeria has a terror-loving Pantami as minister, pampers Boko Haram terrorists, and pays murderous herdsmen. As if that's not enough, look at the office of NEMA DG!"

"Taliban would be proud."

This image subsequently went viral with many assuming the third flag belonged to the Taliban.

Several social media users lampooned the agency and the Federal Government, alleging that it was encouraging 'terrorism'.

VERIFICATION: Further checks carried out by this Newspaper reveal that the flag with Arabic inscriptions is not that of the Taliban but the Saudi Arabian Flag.

Also an official statement from the Agency through its spokesman, Manzo Ezekiel, revealed that the flag was hoisted because of a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Saudi Arabian Government.

Ezekiel said; "I want to tell you that last week Friday, we had a meeting in our office, which was a bilateral engagement with representatives of the government of Saudi Arabia."

"In that programme, there was a flag of Saudia Arabia, which was placed behind the representative of the Saudi Arabian government in which they came to commission a grant facility that was given to NEMA for the upgrading of the emergency call centre, where Nigerians that are in distress could call and receive necessary referral or support."

NEMA meeting with officials from the Saudi Arabian Government

"So whatever flag you’re talking about, if it is the flag of the government of Saudi Arabia, it is the flag of a country, not a flag of any religious organisation or sectionalists. In fact, the flag was used for only few minutes during the occasion and was removed immediately."

"It was just to show appreciation to the government of Saudi Arabia because of the high profile representation of the government, because the Deputy Ambassador of Saudi Arabia and a representative of King Salman of Saudi Arabia Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre came to officially hand over and witness the commissioning of the upgraded call centre."

VERDICT: The claim that a Taliban Flag was hoisted in a NEMA office is FALSE

PoliticsCBN To Arrest Anyone Who Sprays, Steps On Naira Notes by stephanie11(op): 4:28pm On Aug 17, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The Central Bank of Nigeria has threatened to arrest and prosecute anyone who abuses the Nigerian Naira in Public.

The CBN issued a stern warning on Monday against spraying or stepping on the nation's currency at public events.

The statement, signed by the Ag. Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Osita Nwanisobi, read: "The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has again been drawn to the activities of persons, who flagrantly abuse the legal tender by hurling wads of Naira notes in the air and stamping on the currency at social functions."

"There have also been cases where people mishandle the Naira, deface it, hawk the currency at parties and reject the currency in some instances. It should be stated that, contrary to the practice of these unpatriotic persons, it is neither cultural nor moral, for people to disrespect the currency which citizens trade in."

"For the avoidance of doubt, Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007 (As amended) stipulates that “spraying of, dancing or matching on the Naira or any note issued by the Bank during social occasions or otherwise howsoever shall constitute an abuse and defacing of the Naira or such note and shall be punishable under the law by fines or imprisonment or both."

"Accordingly, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is collaborating with the Nigeria Police, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to address the unpatriotic practice."

"We therefore warn Nigerians, particularly those at social functions such as birthdays, weddings and funerals, to desist from disrespecting the Naira or risk being arrested by law enforcement agencies. The Naira is our legal tender and symbol of national pride."

PoliticsAfghanistan Crisis: We Must Preserve Nigeria’s Peace, Security, Says JUN by stephanie11(op): 3:48pm On Aug 17, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The Association of Journalists for United Nigeria better known as Journalists for United Nigeria (JUN), a group convened by Fredrick Nwabufo, journalist and columnist, has asked Nigerians to seek peace at all cost.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nwabufo said: ''The usurpation of power by the Taliban in Afghanistan and the ensuing turmoil in the country despite decades of military support by powerful countries is a caution to all on why peace-loving citizens must defend and preserve Nigeria’s peace and security. There is no salvation in the West or in the East; we Nigerians are the potter, we must build Nigeria with our own hands.

"The events in the country recently call for patriots to rise up and hold the fort. We cannot palliate the enormity of the challenges that confront us as a people today. We have come to a point where all citizens, statesmen and women, young and old, must hold out hands and a forge a common fist to deal with these existential threats."

"We must embrace peace-building as a path to peace in our communities. We need state protection, but it is much easier when we are not propagating hate and division."

"Nigeria is ours. Nigeria is worth fighting for. As a peace and national unity advocate, Association of Journalists for United Nigeria (JUN) better known as Journalists for United Nigeria (JUN) calls on all Nigerians and critical stakeholders in the country to make the pursuit of peace at this tempestuous epoch in our evolution a bounden duty."

"JUN, a group committed to peace-building, national cohesion and progress, notes the agitations for secession in some sections of the country. While it is within the rights of anyone to agitate and seek self-determination, violence and coercion in any form, should not be part of any righteous advocacy."

"We must denounce violence in all forms by all actors. Violence should not be found among civilised human species. Violence achieves nothing but death, broken bones, and spilled blood. When agitations result in loss of lives and property, the state naturally will move to restore order."

"We would like to emphasise that self-determination is a universal right, but taking up arms to kill citizens and security agents pivots on the bounds of terrorism. All Nigerians should pursue constitutional means in whatever they seek. The cost of war is greater than the price of peace. There are no real victors in a war -- only death and destruction."

"We acknowledge some of the fundamental issues behind these agitations – social inequality, poverty, unemployment, injustice and corruption. These are issues affecting all the peoples of Nigeria. Every Nigerian is marginalised. And this is a consequence of leadership failure over the years. We ask the government to look into the underlying causes of these agitations – beyond deploying force. We cannot successfully treat the metastasising cancer if we do not surgically address the root causes."

"We suggest that the government employ peace-building initiatives, dialogue where necessary and hold out the olive branch when practicable."

"Section 24b of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) says "it shall be the duty of every citizen to help to enhance the power, prestige and good name of Nigeria, defend Nigeria". JUN draws its mandate from this section of the constitution."

"Journalists for United Nigeria (JUN) is strictly non-partisan; not a pressure or lobby group, but a think-factory to connect minds in the media who are committed to a united Nigeria."

"We believe the media possesses some of the brightest minds. JUN is more or less a discussion forum for like-minded people. It is non-partisan; it is not a pressure group. It is not a lobby group; it is not a political group. It is a forum where journalists can converge to exchange ideas and opinions on how to strengthen national unity

"We need in abundance citizens who can be Nigerians. It is our view that only journalists fit into this. By virtue of being men and women of the pen, we shape opinions and narratives.  The sustenance of our unity rests largely in our hands. We must rise to the occasion and mobilise both the political class and the populace to imbibe our togetherness. We have no other country but Nigeria. Let us, through our profession, lead by example."

"We would like to be emphatic here; this group was conceived out of a strong desire for the peace and progress of Nigeria. We believe we are stronger together."

"Again, JUN is purely voluntary for Nigerian journalists. No financial rewards whatsoever; except for the psychological fulfilment that comes from knowing you are contributing to the peace and growth of your country."

"We appeal to all Nigerians to put the unity, peace and security of Nigeria first in their engagements, public statements and actions."

PoliticsFred Nwabufo: IBB Is Right, The Political Class Divided Nigeria by stephanie11(op): 8:00am On Aug 07, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The advancement of any society revolves around its politics. A system, putrefying and governed by chaos, tells much about the politics of that set-up. A society cannot rise above its politics. Human, economic and social development begins with the right politics. Where politics falters, the country fails.

In ‘The Partitioning of Nigeria ahead of 2023’ of July 7, 2021, I said: ‘’Avarice and prejudice drove European conquistadors to carve up much of Africa like cake. With the gradual end of the transatlantic slave trade spurred by the industrial revolution in Europe, the trespassers, possessed by capitalist fiends, sought sources of raw materials for their industries and markets for their manufactured products. These encroachers considered Africa as ‘’terra nullius’’ – a vast land belonging to no one –, so they struck, usurping natural boundaries and turning brothers into strangers. All for greed, prejudice, and arrogance.’’

‘’But nothing changed after the European raiders left Africa. Only the skin colour and facial features of the oppressors varied. Colonialism by aliens gave way for colonialism by natives; black-on-black oppression. In Nigeria’s case, the worst form of colonialism steeped in prebendalism, carnivory, nepotism, tribalism, corruption and predation took root. Nigeria’s political class are a hybridised version of the European colonial masters.’’

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), former military ruler, piqued my sentiments when he said in an interview with Arise TV on Friday that Nigeria’s political class are not distinct from the colonialists who entrenched a divisive structure to perpetuate their interest.

IBB: ”If you look back; if you take a place like Baga in the north-east; the Igbo man, the Yoruba man travelled up to Baga for trading; he lived very comfortably, he lived very well with the people around there. If you go to Lagos, the same thing; there are Yoruba, Igbo, who hold political appointments at local levels and live very well with the people.

“I think we, the elite, did not succeed in imbibing that culture (culture of unity) for the country; so we rather live with the culture that the Europeans handed over to us — Northern Nigeria; Eastern Nigeria; Western Nigeria. We had in 1963, mid-west, but we did not build ourselves as a nation. The political elite then that were being developed, they run back to their cocoons and accept that, yes, I have to be a thing or do this or that. Till today, unfortunately, the political class are not really into this seriously, and say how do we build a nation?”

Today, those of us who evangelise for a united Nigeria are scorned by a section of Nigerians. The argument is that Nigeria’s unity is tenuous and asphyxiating. But we must keep doing the Lord’s work, proselytising for unity because a united Nigeria remains the most viable venture for all.

In ‘The Yoruba have won their agitation’ of July 22, 2021, I made postulations on why a united Nigeria guarantees freedom to exist for all, especially those subsumed as ‘’minority groups’’.

I said: ‘’A united Nigeria remains the most operational means of preserving and protecting the variegated interests of those within the territory. While the ‘’big three’’ — Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba – jostle for sectional dividends, they forget that there are other groups — the presumed minority ethnic nationalities — in the phylum. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic nationalities, but are the supposed small lot lesser citizens? Should the interest of the ‘’big three’’ be the governing aspiration and grail of other groupings in the taxonomy?’’

‘’Have we asked what the Affade in Yobe state; the Afizere in Plateau state; Afo (Eloyi) in Nasarawa state; the Baushi in Niger state; the Boki in Cross River, the Annang in Akwa Ibom, and many other classes under the Nigerian family tree want? Some apostles of secessionism have even conscripted these ethnic nationalities into their abstract territories by fait — without considering their peculiarities. The arrogance of the Igbo, the Yoruba and the Hausa is largely responsible for the parlous state of the country. Nigeria should not rise and fall on ‘’this big three’’. Nigeria is bigger and stronger than any of this group on which the country currently pivots. A united Nigeria guarantees freedom – to exist — for the small ethnic genus.’’

We need to sanitise or even deodorise our fetid politics. Our predatory politics is killing Nigeria softly. Politics of winner takes it all and loser returns to the trenches to plot on how to bring down the house through insecurity; politics of blood, broken bones and death; politics of corruption, looting and vandalism.

We do not need to start crusading for unity after every election cycle if we get our politics right. If power is seen as a trust and a tool for pragmatic change by political actors and not as means to pursue vendetta against opponents or to amass prodigious wealth, we will not need to bring out the vuvuzelas in every new administration to wail for unity.

Our political leaders must realise there is always a point of no return. They must not let Nigeria totter to this point.

PoliticsImagine A Nigeria Without DSS - Solomon Semaka by stephanie11(op): 9:51pm On Aug 06, 2021
Austin Aneke’s treatise on A brief History of Impunity and Lawlessness by SSS aka DSS not only reeks mischief but exhibits all shades of ignorance or failure to acknowledge the role of the Service in safeguarding the Nation’s stability. Not many understand the role and relevance of the SSS in Nigeria and Austin Aneke is sure one of those who does not. Little wonder he displayed this ignorance in the piece he authored. At least, Aneka accurately stated that the SSS is organised, designed, programmed and weaponised to protect the State.

However, the supposition that the agency oppresses the people it has a constitutional role to protect is indicative of the fact that he suffers from the Dunning-Kruger syndrome. It is worthy to note that the mission of the DSS is and has remained the protection and defense of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against domestic threats while upholding and enforcing the criminal laws of Nigeria. In the course of discharging this role, the DSS has constantly adapted to various functions necessitated by mitigating the evolving security threats including terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.

Unfortunately, Aneke’s understanding of lawlessness or impunity by the DSS is mostly attributed to operations conducted against his sponsors and those bankrolling him. Aneke and his likes are oblivious of the fact that democracy has indisputably provided veritable grounds for the rise of non-state actors, who under the guise of freedom fighters and CSOs, deploy subversive antics to disrupt and overthrow government. Some others, for pecuniary reasons engage in destructive activities with little consideration for its effects on national security.

Though the intentions of these persons and organizations may on surface level seem people-oriented and friendly, they underneath bear well thought-out orchestrations to destabilize the Nation.

It is for this reason that State agents are trained and equipped to decipher these threats and emplace measures to curtail them. How else can Aneke explain several coordinated attacks launched against security agents and sensitive government facilities by ESN that almost plunged the South East into a state of anarchy? Can Aneke explain what would have become of the South East in the hands of "Nnamdi Kanu’s BIAFRA" if DSS does not exhibit professionalism in handling security challenges? The weight and responsibility to ensure stability and internal security of the country falls on the DSS who must enforce its constitutional role to tackle threats that destabilize collective peace of the Nation. These similar tactics are adopted by the CIA, FBI, MI5-, FSB in maintaining stability of the country.

Where was Aneke when the Agency’ tactical and strategic operations led to the arrest of top criminal elements and Boko Haram commanders including Kabiru Sokoto, Husseini Maitangaran, Khalid al-barnawi, Bello Danhajiya amongst others? Is Aneke aware that in February 2013, the DSS broke up a terrorist cell led by Iranian handlers that was gathering intelligence for future attacks on American and Isreali targets in the country. In its intelligence gathering efforts and prompt dissemination, records have shown that the DSS proactively shares proactive information on security threats with strategic partners both within and outside the country. For instance, publicly available information shows that the DSS shared prior intelligence on the 2011 bombing of an international facility in Abuja. The attack was said to be successful due to the failure by top officials of the Facility to implement suitable safeguards.

Other notable operational successes including the arrest of Omar Mohammed Ali Rezaq, the mastermind of the 1993 bombing of an EgyptAir plane in the US is credited to the Services past leadership. The arrest and subsequent deportation of six Pakistani proselyters by the DSS in Benue and another itinerant preacher in Taraba state are evidences of its efforts to mitigate extremist ideology and fundamentalism in the country. What would have become of the South West in the hands of the run-away fugitive Sunday Adeyemo (aka Igboho) if DSS were not proactive?

Despite these glaring successes recorded by the Agency, Aneke and his cohorts continue to subject the DSS in what appears more like programmed criticism. It is however not unexpected as the DSS continues to amplify efforts to maintain stability of the country thereby making it unfavorable for their destabilizing businesses to thrive.

For a discerning patriot to determine and suggest that the DSS is lawless (regardless of documented milestones) and must be demonized is the height of unpatriotism. For any citizen, to even visualise the scenes that preceded #EndSARS protest and further suggest a re-occurence to buttress an imaginary brutal nature of the DSS only gives us out as people who draw wages from destroying the Nigerian entity.

Curiously, Austin Aneke and his likes in the Diaspora are mostly responsible for disparaging the Nigerian government and its revered security institutions. Nigerians who live in Nigeria, who face the threats posed by imperialists, separatists and religious extremists are thankful to the DSS and other security agencies for their loyalty and sacrifices to country and citizens. As we pace towards a stable democracy and a system that runs on the rule of law, it is important for citizens to censor security agencies on the basis of fairness.

PoliticsBen kalu Describes Certificate Saga As A Distraction, Attempt To Dent His Image by stephanie11(op): 8:30pm On Aug 05, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

Hon. Benjamin Kalu has described reports that his school certificates are fake as 'mere distractions' and a weak attempt to dent his image.

Hon. Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, is also the spokesperson of the House of Representatives.

In a statement on Thursday on the matter, 'The Oracle' called on the general public to ignore the smear campaigns adding that he is totally focused on the goal of improving the lives of his constituents.

The statement read: "Maybe the name Rep Benjamin Kalu is so sparkling clean for a politician who is rising so this is their way of attempting to sprinkle imaginary dents on my image, as a lawyer I should have confidence in our judicial system and they have not failed me previously, they won’t start now."

"It is sub-judicial to begin to discuss the content of the matter in detail. Let’s be patient and allow the court to take a position on this."

"Again, my constituents, friends and family should not worry it will end in praise for what God cannot do does not exist. They shall gather and take counsel but it shall not stand, only the counsel of God shall stand. Let them dent my image am confident truth will clean it . After all when I signed for politics I signed for smear campaigns like this."

"I have my eyes on the ball, it does not matter how threatened they are, I am going for the goal and not perturbed at all. They know this that’s why they are paying all media platforms to discuss my simple change of name as illegal. The last I checked it is within my right to choose on how to be addressed and to document it legally as prescribed by law. So because I changed my surname, it makes my certificates forged certificates. Quite laughable."

"They are paying for my free publicity at least am trending for free . In politics no publicity is a bad one. I am ready for them, they are yet to see quality Representation for my people which offends their senses, I have no apologies."

"They should throw more dirts on me, I was prepared for this and it took 17 years in the kitchen. If you hate the heat then leave the kitchen. I signed for this and they should keep bringing it on. Bende must be great."

CrimeHow Sidechick 'Killed' Married Man, Stole Benz Jeep In Uyo by stephanie11(op): 4:31pm On Aug 05, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM
Previous thread: https://www.nairaland.com/6687005/lady-kills-boyfriend-uyo-after

Fresh disclosure has been made available to POLITICS NIGERIA on the murder of popular businessman, Mr. Chikoha Chukwuemeka by his alleged side-chick, Miss Lauretta Walter.

It was gathered that Miss Walter allegedly murdered Chukwuemeka and made away with his Mercedes Benz 4matic jeep and an undisclosed amount of money.

BACKGROUND

According to family sources, Mr. Chikoha, who was married, had been 'dating' Miss Walter for close to a year. They were rumoured to be on good terms until Wednesday, August 4th, 2021 when Mr. Chikoha's corpse was discovered in his room in a pool of blood.

This newspaper gathered that Chikoha's decomposing body was discovered after his business associates could not reach him on phone. The deceased, who was an importer, was to clear some of his goods on Tuesday, August 3rd but was nowhere to be seen or heard from.

After repeated calls with no response, a close friend decided to visit his house on No. 2 Samuel Effanga street, Osongama housing estate in Uyo, on Wednesday, August 4th, to inquire on his whereabouts. On getting there, the friend met his gateman who disclosed that his boss had left the house early on Tuesday adding that he has not seen him since then.

THE CORPSE

Puzzled, both men decided to check the building to see if anyone was around. On getting to the entrance, the front door was open which was strange. The house was empty, so they decided to check Mr. Chikoha's room and on opening the door, they met the decomposing corpse of the deceased on the bed in a pool of blood.

On further investigation, It was discovered that Chikoha was last seen alive on Monday around 8pm when he returned with Miss Walter. The gateman confirmed that he saw both of them adding that they bought fast food and retired into the building for the night.

On interrogation, he revealed that on Tuesday morning around 5 am, he was woken up by the blaring horn of the deceased's Mercedes Benz jeep, thinking it was his boss driving, he quickly opened the gate without probing the vehicle to know who was in it.

TROUBLING DISCOVERY

An eyewitness and friend who spoke to POLITICS NIGERIA on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that Chukwuemeka had a huge amount of money in the house on Monday which he intended to use to clear his goods the next day.

The eyewitness disclosed that after discovering the corpse, they discovered the bag where Chikoha kept the money was empty.

The deceased had two vehicles: a Toyota Highlander Jeep and the Mercedes Benz 4matic Jeep. Strangely, the vehicle papers to the Mercedes Benz jeep were also missing.

SUSPECT CAPTURED

Police detectives were contacted and they tracked the Mercedes Jeep to a hotel in Ewan housing estate. On confirming that it belonged to the deceased, the operatives learnt that it was driven by Miss Walter and she was lodged in the hotel. She was not around the premises as that time.

An ambush was laid and she was swiftly arrested after returning to the hotel with an Uber taxi. According to a reliable source, on getting her hotel room, a huge sum of money(around N7 million) was found. She had also bought a lot of accessories, boxes, clothes and also changed her hairstyle.

Upon interrogation, the Uber driver revealed that he had taken Miss Walter to a hair-saloon, market and to a road safety office in Uyo. He disclosed that Miss Walter had requested that he take her to Ogoja in Cross River state to renew her driver's license but he refused saying he could not go 'inter-state' but that he knows someone who can help her do it.

According to our source, she obliged and he took her to the Road Safety Office to get a new license done. He said that he heard Miss Walter asking the road safety officer to help her drive a new vehicle she bought to Ogoja, adding that her 'hand was not yet strong' in driving.

DENIAL

Miss Walter was taken to the B division Police Station in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo. She told investigators that she only took the vehicle out for 'Wheel Balancing and alignment' adding that she knew nothing about the murder.

POLITICS NIGERIA contacted the PRO of the Akwa-Ibom state Police command, Mr. Odiko Ogbeche-Macdon for a response on the development, he promised to revert with further information on the case. He is, however, yet to get back to our correspondent.

PoliticsGrace Bent Accuses Precious Chikwendu Of Lying Against Her by stephanie11(op): 9:05am On Aug 05, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

Senator Grace Bent has issued a statement on the recent arrest of Precious Chikwendu, an ex-wife of former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode.

Chikwendu was detained by police officers on Wednesday after she was invited for questioning.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Chikwendu entered hot water after she took to her social media page to allege that Senator Bent, who is a close friend of FFK, was planning to kill her.

She also alleged that Bent was working with FFK to frustrate her life. In response, the senator filed a petition with the police who then invited the former beauty queen. As at 11pm on Wednesday night, Chikwendu was still detained at the Force CID Area 10, Abuja.

Below is a full statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA signed by Timothy Williams, PRO to Senator Bent;

"Permit me to thank family, friends, honourable and distinguished members of the parliament, concerned Nigerians and the general public, who have made spirited and frantic solidarity efforts, to stand by Senator Grace Folashade Bent, on the occasion of a recent publication, which was patently intended to defame and denigrate her."

"This publication, which was at the behest of one Ms. Precious Chikwendu has been making rounds on the internet and diverse social media platforms."

"As a civil and law abiding citizen of Nigeria, the distinguished Senator immediately reported the matter to the Police, and investigation is ongoing. For the records, a swift report had to be made to the relevant enforcement agency, because the publication alleged that the distinguished Senator was after the life of Ms. Precious Chikwendu."

"This is a very weighty allegation of assassination tendencies and intendment."

"The publication also alleged that Senator Grace Bent was out to pervert the course of justice by making efforts at muscling Ms. Precious Chikwendu to abandon her child custody suit."

"This is another bold allegation of criminality and disregard for the rule of law which no citizen of Nigeria who knows his / her onions would be mute over."

"Lastly the publication falsely alleged that the distinguished Senator is on an errand for Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and that they will together abusively activate the machineries of enforcement agencies against Miss Precious Chikwendu."

"As earlier noted a complaint has been submitted for investigation bearing in mind that the publication was primarily meant to incite the public against the distinguished Senator and to criminally damage the reputation she has built over the years."

"Senator Grace Bent is a mother to many and a grandmother who appreciates family values and mutual respect for all and sundry."

"Her interface with Ms. Precious Chikwendu is not in any way significant, and is limited to about only two occasions."

"This is the more reason it became imperative to lodge the complaint, because the suggestion that the Senator wants to murder her is dangerous, inexplicable and unfathomable."

"Unfortunately, the witness referred to in the said publication is Mrs Binta Sambo Dasuki, of whom Col. Sambo Dasuki (her husband), and the husband of Senator Grace Bent, Chief Jackson Bent, have been very good friends and were military course mates for several decades."

"These are relationships that have been maintained for several decades that the publication was carefully designed to prejudice."

"Similarly, Senator Grace Bent and Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation who was once married to Precious Chikwendu, have been friends and political affiliates for many years, with mutual respect for each other."

"Friends don’t deny each other, when they go through stormy waters. Her utmost respect for the dignity of the Court, will not in the remotest terms, allow her to interfere with judicial process or the course of justice, whether in the custody case involving Chief Femi Fani–Kayode's children or any other person."

"Finally, Senator Grace Bent is consulting with her team of lawyer and will not hesitate to seek appropriate redress against the wrongs meted against her, both in law and equity."

"Friends and family are encouraged to be at peace, and avoid insalubrious comments, which may interfere with the ongoing investigation, and other civil actions which may be initiated, at the time appropriate."

PoliticsAbuja's Poor Lighting: What Buhari, Bello, FCTA Must Know by stephanie11(op): 12:07am On Aug 03, 2021
BY WALE ODUNSI

This is not the type of essay you have to read up until the middle or closing section before you get the point. It is straightforward. President Muhmmadu Buhari, Minister Muhammad Bello and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) must know thaat the deplorable lighting in Abuja is part of the factors causing accidents and fueling insecurity.

I cannot grasp why several roads and streets across the city where the seat of power is domiciled are enveloped in darkness day in, day out. As personally observed, the categories of lightning are in three parts: The functioning, the fluctuating, the nonoperating. The second and third are becoming the norm despite budgetary allocations.

Leadership is commitment, hard work, performance, not convoys, escorts, sirens. Go round the councils - Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali - at night. Tour locations in Apo, Dawaki, Garki, Gudu, Jabi, Kubwa, Life Camp, Lugbe, Utako, Wuse, Wuye, Zuba among others to see how the people suffer the incompetence of fellow countrymen.

For highways that used to be bright from dusk to dawn, the reverse is the case now. Check Nnamdi Azikwe expressway, Sani Abacha way, and so on. It is agonizing. You cannot visit countries' capital cities and not feel sorry for Nigeria; leave out America and Europe, Asia and Middle East, I'm talking about Africa.

The happenings in the world's most populous black state no longer surprise. We are in a country where certain civil/public (supposed) servants entered office on the grounds of nomination/recommendation, not on the strength of brilliance/capability. The jokes in this part of the world are innumerable, we export electricity even when millions live in darkness.

I believe in the school of thought that Nigeria, the richest on the continent, ought to be a developed nation if it had more selfless individuals in positions of authority. Most are/were not leaders, they are/were mere elected and appointed officials. Oh and of course, those who attained control through gun barrel.

The FCTA is the ministry that administers the republic's capital and I must stress unequivocally that its effort on public lighting is below par. Are Nigerians expected to protest over everything? The government infuriates while counselling that we remain patriotic. Why encourage the electorates to be nationalists when basic services aren't largely available?

The FCTA is giving the impression that it exists only for demolition, land allocation and road construction? They can't even finish the works at Apo roundabout, Games Village-Area One intersection, Galadimawa, etc, these projects started years ago. Let's assume COVID-19 and economic downturn slowed down execution, did they affect lighting too?

Who are the persons responsible for keeping roads and streets well-lit? Who are the ones tasked to confirm traffic lights function round-the-clock? Relevant directors and supervisors should be on the field more than in air-conditioned offices. Why are they not being probed for failing in their job? Why are heads not rolling for glaring neglect?

The current situation dents FCTA's image, there is no gentler way to put it. The management must diligently discharge its duties. It is unacceptable for the government to continually disregard the citizenry. The words on the lips of residents are that only highbrow areas in Abuja enjoy top quality service.

Granted that places such as Asokoro, Guzape, Maitama and the likes are entitled to preferential treatment perhaps due to high tax remittances and occupation by 'big men', the rest should not be overlooked. The government must provide basic structures and facilities for all; the provisions must not be selective. This is common sense, this is the beauty of public administration.

I appeal to President Buhari, Minister Bello, and the FCTA to replicate what they see abroad; Nigerians want to see change (the same APC mantra) in the coming weeks. But if the authorities fail to prove that we are paramount, I leave them to their conscience and pray that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. Many thanks to Abraham Lincoln.

PoliticsEFCC: We Did Not Advise Mompha On Hushhpuppi by stephanie11(op): 7:58pm On Aug 02, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reacted to reports that its officials advised Ismaila Mustapha alias Mompha to lie low in the aftermath of the arrest of disgraced fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abass a.k.a Hushpuppi.

The commission in a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA called on the general public to ignore the report.

"The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, wished to dissociate itself from claims by Ismaila Mustapha, alias Mompha, currently circulating in social media, that he was advised by the Commission to maintain a low profile in the wake of the indictment of his friend, Abbas Ramon alias Hushpuppi in a $1.1m international fraud conspiracy by US Law enforcement."

"The claim which did not mention the official of the Commission who supposedly gave the advice, is spurious and should be discountenanced."

"The Commission is not in the business of advising suspected internet fraudsters and it is far-fetched that it would counsel one against whom it has pending criminal charge in court."

"Mompha and his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited are facing prosecution by the EFCC on a 22-count charge alleging various offences such as retention of proceeds of unlawful activities to wit; fraud, failure to report transaction to the Commission as required by the provision of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011 (as amended), negotiating foreign exchange without license, contrary to Section 5 and 29 of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act, 2004; engaging in foreign exchange transaction other than through the official foreign exchange market, contrary to provision of Section 11(1) (a) of the National Economic Intelligence Establishment Act to the tune of N32billion before Justice A. M. Liman of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos."

"The Commission had called 10 witnesses and closed its case. But rather than enter his defense, Mompha filed a no-case submission which was overruled by the Court and called upon to open his defense."

A US Court document, released on Thursday, detailed conversations between Kyari and Hushpuppi regarding bribery and the arrest of another suspected fraudster.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Hushpuppi, who recently pleaded guilty in the United States, squealed on how he bribed Kyari with a total of N8 million to effect the arrest of a rival con artist.

Court filings reveal that Hushpuppi opened up during interrogation that he paid bribes to Kyari, a popular Nigerian police officer to have one of his rivals arrested and jailed in Nigeria following a quarrel over a $1.1 million scam on a Qatari businessperson.

Abbas had asked Kyari to arrest and jail Kelly Chibuzor Vincent after both were locked in a bitter quarrel presumably over how to share the $1.1 million largesse stolen from the Qatari businessperson. Out of aspite, Vincent had contacted the victim and informed him that he was being defrauded by a syndicate involving him(vincent) and Abbas, hence foiling the entire scam.

This development angered Hushpuppi who then contacted Kyari to arrest and detain Vincent.

Kyari quickly swung into action with his team and arrested Vincent in Nigeria. Hushpuppi then proceeded to ask Kyari to treat him like an armed robber and also keep him in detention for a long time.

He pledged to pay for Vincent's incarceration to which Kyari accepted and sent an account number.

Court documents further disclosed that Kyari provided the account information for a bank account at a Nigerian bank, Zenith Bank, in the name of a person other than himself.

The document continued; "This was not the only time that Abbas arranged payments with Kyari. On May 20, 2020, Abbas sent Kyari transaction receipts for two transactions from accounts at Nigerian banks (GTBank and Zenith Bank) of a person Abbas knew in the U.A.E.—a person also arrested with Abbas in Abbas’ apartment in the U.A.E. by Dubai Police on June 9, 2020—to the Nigerian bank accounts of another person in Nigeria."

"The amounts on the transaction receipts totalled 8 million Nigerian Naira, which was approximately $20,600 based on publicly available exchange rate information."

POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor has stated that the Department of State Security Services, DSS denied him access to his client on Thursday.

According to statement issued by Ejiofor, on Thursday evening, the DSS refused to allow them meet with Kanu as directed by a court order by Justice Binta Nyako last Monday.

“The Department of State Security Services (DSS) for the umpteenth time, denied us access to our Client today, insisting that our request would be looked into and accordingly approved by their DG before we could be granted access to him.”

“On the 26th Day of July 2021, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Nyako of Court No. 2 Federal High Court Abuja, after listening to our application, wherein I raised serious concerns about the safety and medical condition of Our Client, whom ordinarily was supposed to be produced in court on that day, ordered that the Detention Authority (DSS) should allow us access to him.”

“Upon our arrival in their office today being the 29th Day of July 2021, conspicuously armed with the Court Order under reference, the officials of the DSS, though admitted being aware of the Said Order but directed Us to come up with a formal application stating the names of persons who are visiting, which request was promptly complied with.”

“While we awaited to be admitted for the visit, the officials of the DSS unfortunately came back to inform us that we should go and await further communication from them pending the approval of Our request.”

“It is to be pointed out that Our Client is presently detained in DSS facility pursuant to an Order of Court, and another Order made by the same Court directing Our access to our Client on specified days, is unfortunately being flouted by the officials of the State Security Services, as they have no reason or justification of any kind to refuse us access.”

“We will formally communicate the Court first thing tomorrow morning on this unfortunate and strange development, and shall keep the World updated.”

“Should anything untoward happen to Our Client, the Nigerian Government and the Department of State Security Services should be held responsible. Let the World and all responsible Foreign Government take Notice of this dangerous trend.”

PoliticsHushpuppi: IPOB Disciple, Simon Ekpa Sends Message To Obi Cubana Over Abba Kyari by stephanie11(op): 12:50pm On Jul 29, 2021
Nnamdi Kanu’s disciple on Biafra agitation, Simon Ekpa on Thursday told Nigerian billionaire businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly called Obi Cubana, to distance himself from prominent police officer, DCP Abba Kyari.

Ekpa’s advice is coming on the heels of Nigerian fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, narrating how he paid ‘bribes’ to Kyari in $1.1million deal. Kyari has responded, saying he only connected Hushpuppi to a tailor for native clothes.

Reacting, Ekpa wrote on his known Twitter handle, "Obi Cubana my brother, you may reconsider retracting your step and watch the people you keep as friends. Abba Kyari was seen in your mother burial, this development will definitely send a wrong signal about you and this criminal conspirator. - SE."

It would be recalled that Kyari was one of the guests earlier this month (July) at a star-studded ceremony in Anambra State where Cubana, buried his mother at Oba town.

Kyari, a Borno State indigene, described Obi Cubana as a “brother and good friend".

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that US court documents reveal that Abbas reportedly paid off Kyari to arrest a colleague of his whom he had a dispute with. However, Kyari has issued a statement on the allegations;

"Abbas who we later came to know as Hushpuppi called our office about 2years ago that somebody in Nigeria Seriously threatened to kill his Family here in Nigeria and he sent the person’s Phone number and pleaded we take action before the Person attacks his family."

"We traced and arrested the Suspect and after investigations we discovered there wasn’t an actual threat to anyone’s life And they are long time friends who have money issues between them hence we released the Suspect on bail to go and he was not taken to any jail."

"Nobody demanded for a kobo from Abbas Hushpuppi. Our focus was to Save people’s lives that were purported to have been threatened."

"Later, he saw some of my Native Clothes and Caps on my social media page and he said he likes them and he was connected to the person selling the clothes and he sent about N300k directly to the person’s account. The Native Clothes and Caps (5 sets) were brought to our office and He sent somebody to Collect them in our office.
Nobody demanded any money from Abbas Hushpuppi and nobody collected any money from him."

"We responded to a distress call he made on threat to his family and released the Suspect when we discovered there was no life threat from the Suspect."

"This is the true story. Vincent is alive, he can be contacted."

PoliticsDSS Releases Israeli Film Makers Arrested Over Reported Ties To IPOB by stephanie11(op): 10:52am On Jul 29, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The Department of State Security Services, DSS has released a group of Israeli Film Makers 3 weeks after they were arrested over an alleged affiliation to the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that the film makers namely Rudy Rochman, Andrew (Noam) Leibman and Edouard David Benaym were released by the Nigerian Secret Service and were flown back to Israel on Wednesday evening.

Below is a full statement from the trio on their travails and circumstances that led to their arrest;

"The We Were Never Lost Team: Rudy Rochman, Andrew Noam Leibman & Edouard David Benaym have officially been released from the Nigerian Government's DSS(Secret Service) illegal detainment and are on a flight back to Israel as of the evening of July 28", scheduled to land in israel July 29th at 9:00AM (Israel time)."

"The WWNL documentary team were wrongfully taken on Friday July 9", 2021 at 7:30 AM (Nigerian time) to the local DSS facility in Anambra State, Nigeria where they were held for 24 hours before being transported to the DSS headquarters in Abuja, 9 hours away with dangerous transport."

"We Were Never Lost is a documentary project that aims to tell the stories of disconnected and lesser-known Jewish communities around the world. The first Season of WWNL is set to take place in Africa traveling through Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia. The goal of the project is to showcase the fascinating stories, experiences, struggles and aspirations of such communities, to reveal the diversity of Jewish life, and to unite the Jewish People around the world."

"Nigeria was scheduled to be the first episode filmed of the African season covering the Igbo communities genuinely practicing and preserving their Judaism. Unfortunately, after only 2 days of filming, Nigerian bloggers started hijacking images from the WWNL social media pages and fabricated an association between the Israeli crew to separatist movements in Southern Nigeria likely in order to gain more publicity."

"The Igbo People are not a monolith. One separatist movement does not represent S50 million people. Furthermore, the communities that were to be visited had nothing to do with the separatist movement and the point of the film was purely cultural, spiritual, historical, and not political."

"This was very clear in all the messaging and public information available on www.WeWereNeverLost.com, which had been announced and published months before."

"Due to the factually incorrect and inflammatory blogs, the Nigerian government “suspected” the team and took them into custody by over a dozen DSS men with black ski masks at gun point. From the moment they were taken their phones and passports were stripped from them and they were at no point of their detainment able to contact anyone."

"Rudy, Noam, and David were caged and held for 20 days in horrendous conditions, locked into a
small cell, sleeping on the floor with no access to showers or clean clothes. They were interrogated and mistreated without ever officially being arrested or accused of anything. There were countless human and international violations that occurred, which can and will be discussed in depth at a later time. Fortunately, the Jewish organization, Chabad of Nigeria, was able to reach the three Israeli filmmakers after their 5th day in captivity and provided them with proper Kosher meals daily."

"Thanks to the efforts of the Israeli, US and French embassies, along with other diplomatic channels, families, and many caring individuals who helped in the process, as of July 28" the WWNL team has been officially cleared of any and all suspicions and although their visas are still valid have been instructed by the Nigerian government to leave the country immediately."

"Although the team cannot continue their filming of Igbo Jewish life in Nigeria, their mission is not over and the story will be told. The 3 weeks in captivity has only fueled the team’s desire to tell the stories of the Igbo Jews and will continue working for them to get mainstream reception."

"Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts go out to the Igbo Jewish communities we met and to those those we had planned to visit. We thank you all for hosting us for the few days we shared and will not give up on you.” Rudy Rochman."

"When Rudy, Noam, and David were taken, an elderly Igbo woman, “ima Lisbon” who is a leader of the Jewish community in Ogidi, Nigeria was also taken into custody and is still being detained in inhumane conditions. When they all arrived in Abuja she was separated from the team and kept in a different building. 1/3 of the food brought for the WWNL team was always separated and given to the DSS officers for Ima Lisbon. Rudy made sure to have Chabad of Nigeria commit to continue providing Ima Lisbon with food during her ongoing detainment. The team will continue telling her story hopes that she is freed as soon as possible."

Politics"Igbos Don't Have Any Connection With Biafra, Ijaws Own It" - Asari Dokubo by stephanie11(op): 12:37pm On Jul 28, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

Former leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Mujaheed Asari Dokubo has said that the name 'Biafra' has nothing to do with the Igbos.

Dokubo, in a brief interview with Arise Television, monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA on Wednesday, revealed that the term 'biafra' was coined by an Ijaw man and was originally proposed by the Ijaws and not the Igbos. He also criticized the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB for wanting to create an 'Igbo biafra'.

He said; "Ijaw is Biafra. Ijaws are divided between the Bight of Benin and and the Bight of Biafra. We are the owners of Biafra. Biafra is an Ijaw name, we own it"

"The territory identified as Biafra is Ijaw. Maybe a little ibibios towards the end and Oron people."

"The real Biafra, the name Biafra, the geographical location Biafra is Ijaw and a little Oron and a little bit Ibibio."

"In 1967, the eastern ijaws were part of Eastern region. An Eastern consultative assembly was convoked in Enugu and Francis, an ijaw man gave the name 'Biafra', moved the motion that Biafra should be adopted. Francis Opigo, and Biafra was adopted on the 30th of May 1967, the republic of Biafra was declared which included the eastern Ijaw within our territory."

"So, Biafra has nothing to do with Igbos"

"The Biafran state that was declared in 1967 was not an Igbo state.", he said.

PoliticsI'm Not Involved In Any Plot Against Nnamdi Kanu - Governor Obiano by stephanie11(op): 11:38am On Jul 16, 2021
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

The Governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano has denied being involved in a rumoured plot that allegedly led to the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

On Thursday, a report went viral that Obiano alongside Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige and Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike were part of an alleged plot to capture Kanu in order to protect their political interests.

However, in a statement made available to POLITICS NIGERIA on Friday, signed by his media aide, James Eze, Obiano disclosed that he has no hand in any plot and described the report as 'false'.

The statement read in part; "Our attention has been drawn to a story in Saharareporters.com alleging that the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano was involved in the plot to kidnap and repatriate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) from Kenya to Nigeria."

"The general public is enjoined to disregard that story because it is totally false without the tinniest grain of truth."

"The governor of Anambra State had no hand in any plot against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.It should be crystal clear to anyone that the Federal Government of Nigeria headed by Muhammadu Buhari as the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, does not need the assistance of a governor who has no control over any security and intelligence architecture to do whatever it wants to do."

"The report is therefore a deliberate act of mischief that should be ignored by the general public."

PoliticsFredrick Nwabufo Convenes ‘Journalists For United Nigeria’ by stephanie11(op): 8:35pm On Jul 15, 2021
Fredrick Nwabufo, journalist and columnist, has convened an ideological and voluntary group for journalists committed to peace-building, national cohesion and progress.

According to the columnist, the group named, ‘Journalists for United Nigeria (JUN)’, is strictly non-partisan; not a pressure or lobby group, but a think-factory to connect minds in the media who are committed to a united Nigeria.

‘’I believe, the media possesses some of the brightest minds. JUN is more or less a discussion forum for like-minded people. It is non-partisan; it is not a pressure group. It is not a lobby group; it is not a political group. It is a forum where journalists can converge to exchange ideas and opinions on how to strengthen national unity,’’ Nwabufo said.

‘’We need in abundance citizens who can be Nigerians. It is my view that only journalists fit into this. By virtue of being men and women of the pen, they shape opinions and narratives. They make or mar. The sustenance of our national unity rests largely in our hands. We must rise to the occasion and mobilise both the political class and the populace to imbibe our togetherness. We have no other country than Nigeria. Let us, through our profession, lead by example.

‘’I would like to be emphatic here; this group was conceived out of a strong desire for the peace and progress of Nigeria. I believe we are stronger together.

‘’It is purely voluntary for Nigerians. No financial rewards whatsoever; except for the psychological fulfilment that comes from knowing you are contributing to the peace and growth of your country.’’

Nwabufo said he believes the current challenges in the country will be tackled effectively with the support of all Nigerians.
