POLITICSNIGERIA.COM The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Saturday issued a statement on the recent crisis that rocked his party. Tinubu listed several observations and addressed certain rumours about the 2023 Presidential elections. POLITICS NIGERIA has compiled 8 major things Tinubu highlighted in his statement; 1. DISINTEGRATION OF APC The National leader addressed several comments that the party was divided and will crack up before 2023 saying; "“Most such dire predictions were from critics whose forecasts said more about their ill will than they revealed about our party’s objective condition,". He described the predictions as premature, adding that “an honest person must admit the party had entered a space where it had no good reason to be”. 2. OSHIOMOLE MADE MISTAKES Tinubu expressed agreement with assertions that the National Chairman of the Party, Adams Oshiomole made mistakes in handling the party's crisis. "Comrade Oshiomhole tried his best. Mistakes were made and he must own them. Yet, we must remember also that he was an able and enthusiastic campaigner during the 2019 election. He is a man of considerable ability as are the rest of you who constituted the NWC." 3. EROSION OF PARTY DISCIPLINE, MUTUAL RESPECT AND ORDER Tinubu also expressed disappointment that party discipline, mutual respect and order completely disappeared from the party. "Order, party discipline and mutual respect went out of the window. Members instituted all manner of court cases, most of them destructive, some of them frivolous, none of them necessary. In the process, a dense fog fell upon our party." he said. 4. 2023 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION The Former Lagos Governor also weighed in on rumours of a 2023 presidential ambition he harbours. He wrote; "To those who have been actively bleating how the President’s actions and the NEC meeting have ended my purported 2023 ambitions, I seek your pity. I am but a mere mortal who does not enjoy the length of foresight or political wisdom you profess to have. Already, you have assigned colourful epitaphs to the 2023 death of an alleged political ambition that is not yet even born." "At this extenuating moment with COVID-19 and its economic fallout hounding us, I cannot see as far into the distance as you. I have made no decision regarding 2023 for the concerns of this hour are momentous enough." "During this period, I have not busied myself with politicking regarding 2023. I find that a bit distasteful and somewhat uncaring particularly when so many of our people have been unbalanced by the twin public health and economic crises we face. I have devoted these last few months to thinking of policies that may help the nation in the here and now. What I may or may not do 3 years hence seems too remote given present exigencies." "Those who seek to cast themselves as political Nostradamus’ are free to so engage their energies. I trust the discerning public will give the views of such eager seers the scant weight such divinations warrant." "Personally, I find greater merit trying to help in the present by offering policy ideas, both privately and publicly, where I think they might help. I will continue in this same mode for the immediate future. 2023 will answer its own questions in due time." 5. PERSONAL SACRIFICES Tinubu called on party members to embrace making sacrifices for the good of the party. "I have toiled for this party as much as any other person and perhaps more than most. Despite this investment or perhaps due to it, I have no problem with making personal sacrifices (and none of us should have such a problem) as long as the party remains true to its progressive, democratic creed. Politics is but a vehicle to arrive at governance. Good politics promotes good governance. Yet, politics is also an uncertain venture." "No one gets all they want all the time. In even a tightly-woven family, differences and competing interests must be balanced and accommodated." 6. NWC MEMBERS MUST SHEATH THEIR SWORDS The Lagos Politician also called on aggrieved members of the now-dissolved party National Working Committee, NWC to unite and move the party forward. "I appeal to all former members of the National Working Committee and all members of our party to sheathe their swords and look to the larger picture." 7. SUPPORT BUHARI'S DECISION Tinubu admonished members of the party to adopt and follow the President's decisions for the party. "The President has spoken and his decision has been accepted. It is now beholden on all of us, as members of the APC, to recommit ourselves to the ideals and principles on which our party was founded. While we recognize that people have personal ambitions, those ambitions are secondary, not sacrosanct." "Members must subordinate their ambitions to health and well-being of the party. Never should our party be defined by one person’s interests or even the amalgam of all members’ individual interests. A successful party must be greater than the sum of its parts." 8. PREPARE FOR EDO, ONDO ELECTIONS Tinubu also reminded party members about the upcoming Edo and Ondo State Elections. He asked members to come together in order to win both elections. We have governorship elections around the corner in Edo and a primary and elections in Ondo. On these important events, we must concentrate our immediate energies. In the longer run, we must restore the collegial nature to the party so that it should be in the practice of coming to support the President instead of him having to rescue the party from itself. "In Edo, we must rally round our candidate Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu. In this, Comrade Oshiomhole has a crucial role to play. I congratulate him for his equanimity and loyalty to the party and our President in accepting the dissolution of the NWC. I encourage him, now, to return to Edo State to energise the campaign for the election of Pastor Ize-Iyamu." "In Ondo, we must set the procedures for primaries and conduct that exercise in a fair, transparent manner that shows the Nigerian people the party has left turmoil behind." The unbanked and underbanked, two groups at the centre of retail banking, need to be captured for the financial system to achieve its full potential. The KPMG Nigeria Banking Industry Customer Experience Survey says customers have expectations about how their needs will be met and meeting this requires banks deploying the right network and technology. First Bank of Nigeria Limited has through its Firstmonie Agent Banking Network created over 150,000 indirect jobs for Nigerians and executed three million transactions via 45,000 agents, writes COLLINS NWEZE. Banking is no longer where you operate, but what you do. And doing more in today’s banking world requires the right tool, network and technology. Capturing the retail segment of the sector requires the right technology and product. The KPMG Nigeria has for the 13th consecutive year released the Banking Industry Customer Experience Survey, which showed banks playing formidable roles in the retail segment of the market. The retail segment of the report showed that FirstBank scored 71.8 percent, an improvement from 65 percent score in the 2018 survey. The KPMG report showed that 53 percent of retail customers considered quality of service experience in choosing their bank, 13 percent chosen their bank based on financial stability while 12 percent chose their bank based on image and reputation. For First Bank of Nigeria Limited, achieving these milestones did not come by chance. It took several decades of investment in the right technology, product and quality leadership. As the oldest financial institution in the country, founded in 1894, FirstBank has over 28,000 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), launched the first cash deposit ATM in Nigeria in 2011, has appointed over 45,000 FirstMonie Agents spread across the country, targeting 500,000 agents and operates in over 750 business locations. The bank has also created over 150,000 indirect jobs through the FirstMonie Agents scheme as at December 31, 2019. Also, the bank’s alternative channels were the first to launch WhatsApp banking, among other milestones. Achieving the 80 percent financial inclusion target set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will require the support of commercial banks and use of technology. First Bank of Nigeria is one of the financial institutions which have taken steps to make the target a reality by deploying technology in its operations by way of Agent Banking Network. FirstBank has expressed its commitment to continue to drive financial inclusion through its First-monie Agent Network in 99 per cent of the 774 local government areas and has processed over N2 trillion through the initiative. The Firstmonie service provides financial/banking solutions to rural and semi-urban locations across the country. Such solutions include account opening, cash deposit, cash withdrawals, airtime purchase, and bill payments. Through this channel, the bank is committed to providing convenient services that engender and provides ease of access to banking products, thereby saving time and travel costs for users of the network. Speaking at the Firstmonie Agent Banking National Awards in Lagos, FirstBank’s Chief Executive Officer, Adesola Adeduntan said: “The initiative has witnessed several changes in the operating structure and value proposition of FirstBank In December 2017, the bank ran a pilot test with over 400,000 transactions processed and following the success of the first run, it re-launched in 2018.” According to Adeduntan, through Firstmonie, the bank has remained at the forefront of driving nation-wide inclusion, given our belief that access to financial services is part of lifting people out of poverty and fostering collective national economic development. Adeduntan said: “The key strength of the bank’s services is to look at the gaps in the society and develop products and services that address the gap. As an integral part of our strategy, we believe in working with the CBN to improve financial inclusion index of the country. We would, at FirstBank, assist Nigeria to address poverty and hunger, thereby promoting security of life and property. Because when people are gainfully employed, the implication is that they will think less of crime.” The bank’s Deputy Managing Director, Francis Shobo, noted that the agents are the most critical part of the ecosystem because they take deposits, make payments and open accounts, provide transfers and sell airtime at locations with little or no access to financial services. He said there are switches and the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has also supported the Firstmonie network. Shobo praised the CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, stating that the the apex bank has made changes in regulation around agency banking. “They have allowed the programme to scale as much as it has scaled,” he said. At the event, 31 agents at the state level won N250,000 each, five agents N1 million each at the regional level and a grand prize of N2.5 million at the national level. FirstBank Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Folake Ani-Mumuney, said the Bank has, through the First-monie initiative, empowered communities by connecting them to the financial system. She said the bank will continue to support Firstmonie agents. She said customers’ expectations were changing and that it’s the bank’s duty as a customer-focused bank to ensure that customers were provided with the means to carry out banking through any channel they desire. FirstBank has also recognised the opportunities for inclusive growth and influence of financial technology not just in banking but also business operations across industries. One of the Firstmonie agents said: “I have been with Firstmonie since they started, and I can say that it has been a life-changing experience. I have been able to build trust of the communities around me as many workers in my area have forgotten the last time they visited any bank branch for basic banking services. I am a proud employer and as a result, my members of staff are well paid and comfortable. “Firstmonie has created an enabling opportunity for dwellers of my immediate community and neighbouring towns to carry out banking transactions with less time, money, resources and risks as people don’t have to waste time embarking on long journeys to the city, added to the dangers of being robbed on the highway.’’ FirstBank has also partnered National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The deal seeks to leverage the human traffic and commercial activities at various motor parks across the country to ease access to financial services. FirstBank is also in partnership with Azuri Technologies Limited, an off-grid power distribution firm to make access to off-grid power easy, especially in rural communities, as well as other institutions, that seek to provide resources to cushion the effects of economic and social shocks on low income individuals. Under this deal, FirstBank and Azuri will co-brand and co-market Azuri’s solar home television product. The pay-as-you-go customers will also pay for their solar photovoltaic (PV) system via FirstBank’s Firstmonie agents and mobile payment solution, thereby deepening financial inclusion. Banking with Technology Banking and technology are becoming inseparable. FirstBank under Adeduntan is driving growth and customer services with technology. The Financial Technology (Fintech) Summit organised by the bank was an opportunity for the bank to emphasise the need for technology in e-business, digital offering, agent banking, wholesale/ transaction banking, retail/consumer lending and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) productivity. He noted that as a Tier-1 lender, which celebrated its 125th anniversary last March, the bank had been able to maintain its leadership position in the industry by leveraging technology to offer innovative solutions through its product offerings. FirstBank is also taking advantage of the opportunities created by cash-less banking to innovate and give value to customers. The bank has introduced the Visa Multi Currency Card, an All-in One-Card and first of its kind to be offered by any financial institution in Nigeria. This card can be linked to four currencies: Naira, United States dollar, Euro and British Pounds Sterling accounts. With the Visa Multi-Currency card, FirstBank customers – within and outside Nigeria – can enjoy the luxury of having their local and foreign denominated accounts in any currency, linked to a single debit card. Many banks have continued to make impact in the e-payment space. The Nigeria Postal Service and Fidelity Bank Plc have also entered into a collaboration to deploy modern banking services to Nigerians in 266 rural communities. The move is part of the measures to boost the level of financial inclusion in the country and reduce the number of those not yet in the formal financial system. Speaking at the launch of integrated banking services between Fidelity bank and NIPOST in Abuja, the bank said the collaboration would enable the bank to deploy all its banking services in 266 locations using NIPOST offices. Access Bank Plc has introduced agency banking to deepen financial inclusion in Nigeria, to enable branches to focus more on complex customer obligations. A banking agent is defined as an authorised third party (a retail or postal outlet) contracted by a financial institution to process clients‘ transactions. The Head, Agency Banking, Access Bank, Michael Ogbaa, while introducing the bank’s Omni-channel agency banking application at the bank’s agency banking forum, in Lagos, on Tuesday decried that there are only 307,000 PoS terminals in Nigeria as at last July, of which only 167,000 are active. Also, the adoption of e-transactions for customers earned Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), United Bank of Africa (UBA), and other eight banks N135.15 billion between January and September, last year. A look at the unaudited 2019 third-quarter reports of the banks, showed that their revenue from electronic transactions grew by 57 per cent as against the N86.312 billion they earned from the first 10 months of 2018. https://politicsnigeria.com/kpmg-report-first-bank-reinforces-retail-banking-dominance-creates-15000-indirect-jobs/

So style by Zenith 2.0 took place this past weekend and all I can say is that it was an amazing, insightful and mind blowing experience. This was a three-day event and I was privileged to attend all three days of fun filled activities, and don’t forget the eccentric musical concerts that took place in the evenings. On the first day of the event, I visited the food court first cause I mean, its food! Entering the food court, the first thing to hit my olfactory nerves was the aroma of mouthwatering food. My first stop was at a smoothie stand, cause even though I was surrounded by all these amazing food I still had to stick to my diet, or at least try to (*laughs) I had a grape fruit smoothie from Queens Fruits, It was really refreshing because the weather was a little on the high side in terms of temperature. Sipping on my smoothie, I stepped into the Master class. The class holding at that particular moment was the Movie production master class. You wouldn’t believe the speaker…It was none other than Nigerian Nollywood Legend, Eucharia Anunobi! She talked at length about how the movie industry works, giving in-depth analysis into the do’s and don’ts of the industry. After the enlightening class, I decided to explore the lifestyle fair. I kid you not, it was worth the hype! I visited numerous stands from Bags, to clothes, makeup even a Spa. I interacted with one of the vendors at the fair. Now what was so fascinating about this lady was the fact that all her handbags were handmade, and not just that, they were all made in her backyard, Talk about entrepreneurial skills! These bags were lovely and very affordable. Recall that I mentioned I was on a weight loss journey earlier, so there was no way I was going to be at the lifestyle fair without visiting Sportsworldngr. They had amazing gym wears and equipment’s and they were all on sale! And I got a free stress ball for just following them on Instagram…in this Lagos road, a stress ball is just what I needed to ease away all the tension. What made the Zenith Bank Lifestyle event so mind bubbling was the fact that I got to interact with so many celebrities. While I was surfing through the food court again (laughs), I saw Big Brother Naija Star, Ike looking as dashing as ever, he was so nice and friendly and even took a picture with me. As I was heading towards the main entrance, it was like I had stepped into the Big Brother House…almost all the contestants from the just concluded Pepperdem season were there.I saw Kim Oprah, Seyi, Venita, Elozonam, Sir Dee, Nelson and Jeff, I was star struck and I was lucky enough to engage in a brief conversation with a few of them. As I was still basking in the euphoria from seeing some of my favorite Big Brother stars, I turned around and guess who I saw…One of Nigeria’s top Photographer, Kelechi Amadi-Obi. Kelechi Amadi-Obi is a creative photographer in Lagos, Nigeria and the publisher of Style Mania Magazine. It was really an honor to see him. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the evening concert, but in all, the first day was fun and I was definitely looking forward to the following day. I was a little late for the second day so unfortunately I missed the master classes, but that definitely did not dampen my mood because I knew there were more activities to partake in. I decided to get a makeover from one of the top brands in the world of Makeup, Mac Cosmetics. I felt like a celebrity who was being glammed up for a photo-shoot. I stumbled upon the VIP section, went in to relax and sip on some mojito’s. The VIP section interior décor was bomb! On entering the VIP lounge it was like I stepped into a whole new building. Zenith Bank sure knows how to treat their VIP’s. The lounge was beautiful, there were waiters waiting to take your orders and sensational music to groove to. After spending some time in the VIP Lounge, I left to continue surfing the lifestyle fair.I was able to attend the evening concert and it was just amazing, the vibe from the stage was surreal. There were performances from upcoming artiste and amazing Fashion designs from well-known designers. Avala from the Big Brother Naija show also performed some of her new singles, and I must say, I think I’ve found my new go-to playlist. The stage was amazing and it was shaped in the form of a ‘Z’ which stands for Zenith bank. The concert was in an open stage, and Zenith bank being always considerate when it comes to their customers provided chairs and tables so that people don’t stand for long, talk about VIP treatment! Now getting into the concert proper, the first major artiste to come on stage was Mama Africa, the one and only Yemi Alade…and she killed it, her performance was off the chain, the crowd went wild when she sang her hit song ‘Johnny’. The amount of energy she put into her performance was just WOW. The second performer was none other than Niniola. Her energy was unmatched. Her stage performance was also top-notch. Also in the same concert, we had performances from Living Legend 2Face Idibia and the Koko Master himself, D’Banj. I definitely did not want the night to end. Not only were there performances from amazing artistes, but we had Runway shows in between performances. Ituen Basi, Mai Atafo among others graced the stage with their amazing designs, leaving on-lookers in awe. The third day which was the last day was definitely the best, like they always say, save the best for last. Jim Ovia, who is the founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank graced us with his presence at one of the master classes, also present was the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as well as Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu. Talk about dedication to economic growth and development through enlightenment of the masses! Jim Ovia said: “Passion for what you is key, but other than passion, build your own infrastructure (BYOI); get down to work, fix the problem, stop complaining and be the solution.” Zenith Bank never ceases to give their customers the best of everything, pouring their heart and soul into every single thing they put out there. Also at the master class was Fashion Designer, David Tlale. He talked extensively about the fashion world, I really learnt a lot. After the master class, while sipping on my free bottle of water provided by Zenith bank (again, great customer service), I met Denrele…he is such a lively personality, full of life and emits a positive aura. I wandered off to the ZECA (Zenith Bank Children’s account) play house, it was fabulous… it was as if I had walked into children’s wonderland, I was drop dead speechless. I almost wished I was a kid again. As I was about leaving for the concert, I saw Mercy Eke, the winner of the just concluded Big Brother Naija Pepperdem season, she looked so pretty in person, and pictures definitely don’t do her justice. The evening concert for the last day was the best! Award-winning Nigerian Musician, Davido was on stage and performed singles from his just released album. Davido is a crowd mover! I saw performances from Tems, Flavour, Tekno, Jidenna, and Zenith bank spared no expense in bringing some of the best of Nigerian Performers unto their stage. Even the popular Instagram sensation Kabusa Oriental Choir came to drop some of their amazing hits, also present was Dotun, Ik Osakioduwa and Kenny Blaq. In all, this year’s Style by Zenith was wonderful, and although there were a few bumps along the way, Zenith Bank still killed it! Their dedication to providing the best for their customers is just overwhelming. And you wouldn’t believe if I told you, the entire three-day event was free! No charge what so ever, even the vendors got their booths free of charge!! I am definitely looking forward to next year’s Style by Zenith 3.0.

The managing director of Seven-Up Bottling Company Nigeria, Ziad Maalouf, has vowed to put away all the B-Brand from the market. Maalouf disclosed this during a two-day workshop held on Saturday, November 2, saying that he would bring the dream of the B-Brand of taking over Nigeria from A-Brand to bed. The theme of the workshop included: “The Heart that represented by the value we live daily. Passion, Hard Work, Integrity, Honesty, Mutual Trust and respect. Speaking about their comparative, the manager said: ” Let me start by explaining the competitive playground once again. This session is not like any other, so the mindset of growing vs last year, achieving budget, business as usual cost management etc. “The outcome of this season must write the future and destiny of the three major competitors along with the future of the B-Brand industry (Bigger back and lower price concept) disruption in Nigeria: One company will flourish, one company will diminish, and one company will finish. “The B-Brand destructive business model will either become a temptation for everyone who has a bit of money to start own brand in Nigeria or it will become a curse that ensures no one takes such a decision again. SBC must be company that will flourish and B-Brand taking over Nigeria from A-Brand must be put to bed.” Maalouf who also spoke about his personal experience as MD said: “My experience at Ikeja was another new great learning. On the weaknesses and threat side, I noticed the following: “We have No clear sales strategy. Our sales team are working as a job, not as a passion with a clear dream. Incentives are being delayed for no reason. “Motivation at sales team level is very low with weak sense direction and accountability. We are stuck in a mode of excuses (whether Bigi did this, NBC did that etc). “Our information and execution are extremely week. We have no integration and synergies between departments ( even communication is weak).” See the screenshots below: It will be recalled that the Seven-Up Bottling Company (7-Up) Plc filed an application with the Nigerian Stock Exchange, seeking to delist its shares from the Exchange and end its 32 years as a publicly quoted company. A regulatory report at the Exchange indicated that 7-Up has already started the delisting reminiscent of the exit of its rival, Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) from the Exchange. Despite strong protests from minority shareholders, the majority core investor of 7-Up-Affelka SA had last January 11 pushed through approval to acquire the outstanding 26.8 per cent shares held by the minority shareholders. A Nigerian man Chief Emeka has laid claims to the ancestry lineage of United States President, Donald Trump. Emeka, a dual citizen of both America and Nigeria and an ardent follower of Donald Trump’s teachings has come out to say he fathered the American President He made this disclosure while speaking to our correspondent at the Zenith Bank Light up 2019 which took place at Eko Hotel roundabout, VI, Lagos, Nigeria. Emeka who allegedly shares the same family tree with Trump named his two children, Trump and Ivanka respectively. When asked the reason, he said as the grandfather of Trump, people would soon understand “As time progresses, the world will come to know why I decided to name my son Trump. I am the grandfather of Trump, because the President of US is my grandson. I am Daddy Trump, he is Donald and he is answering Trump, so, I am the father of all the Trumps.” When asked what he liked about the controversial President, the Nigerian Chief said he admired Trump’s straight-forward attitude and his ability to express his views regardless of what other people think. He also mentioned that Trump’s books have helped him achieve outstanding success in his business. In Chief Emeka’s words, “Being controversial is not a crime. Being controversial means you have a view that people don’t agree with. That doesn’t make your view, a wrong view. What I see in him is a man who keeps to his word, he is a very straight-forward human being. I have been reading books about Donald Trump since I was 16. I’ve read almost all the books he wrote and his approach to life and business helps me a great lot, even in my business. “I like people who are very straightforward, who keep to their words, keep their promises and who are willing to keep their words at all cost.” https://www.herald.ng/nigerian-man-claims-donald-trump-grandfather/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEL-jIkzhvk
