laliga01: Don't come here and form learned. That award is shameful. I wouldn't give a primary school pupil that award. Actually, he was not 'forming learned'; HE IS LEARNED. The objective of that award may not be anything monetary because I don't see that. Good people in a better person see things that the younger generation cannot see; and so, do things which objectives may not be understood by the younger generation at that point in time. |

MrBigiman: I understand that u are under a lot of pressure, but It's easy to note a Nigerian speak, and ur level of arrogance is glaring.
The Doctors are not the cause of ur mums acute abdomen, but were frantically seeking for ways to help. Don't vent the frustration of ur mums illness on Nigerian Doctors. Many inconclusive tests where also carried out by other health workers.
A sick person may not be the easiest of people to draw blood from, as several of her veins may have collapsed. Venepuncture, doesn't kill anyone. In chronic cancer patients we something's have to use a 3 way central line for blood draws and medications.
There is nothing like kid doctors. There may be Medical students, Medical officers, registrar's. However the Junior Doctors are the hope of tomorrow. Nigerian Doctors are not bad at all, at least 1000 passed the UK board exams. That itself is reassuring.
Complications could occur from surgery done anywhere in the world. People have died from a bleeding aortofemoral byepass surgery done in the best centres in the world. That's the aim of signing consent before surgery. Surgery do have complications sometimes.
Thousands of patients have been saved in UCH, and owe some gratitude to those same consultants u slander and use unsavory words for. And Gods judgement awaits u, if u slander them unjustly. Because I am sure they didn't cause ur mums acute abdominal pain.
If u have any case against someone, the best ways to handle it is to take it up. Report to authorities, charge them to court and let true justice be done, not using disparaging words on people in the court of public opinion.
The whole of Last year and the past several cases were taken up by patients in tertiary hospitals, and at the end the Doctors weren't at fault.
In one case the child was on prolonged steriod from another hospital, the parents never disclosed this even wen asked before surgery. The child died the theatre table and the parents made all sort of unsavory remarks and publications about the hospital and Doctors.
In another case, a patient had metastatic CA, was informed and counselled for treatment, but ran away, only to present at the terminal stage and then was blaming dirty bed sheets, doctors not able to start an IV line once, old oxygen cylinders and junior Doctors.
In yet another case a child was stooling over 20 times a day, was taken to a chemist and when the child was totally spent, he was brought to a hospital. The parents complained how they looked for vein over 5times, how they shaved the hair finally, and how lack of oxygen killed the child.
All these cases were struck out.
Nigerians have a bad attitude to health care. A doctor's cannot introduce himself as a Junior Doctor, because once he does that, a patient with malaria starts asking to see the senior Doctor. However in the same UK the FY2 will walk of to u and say, "I am Dr X, one of the Junior Doctors in the Surgical Department", and the same Nigerian will be shivering and saying yes sir.
Repent and pray ur mum recovers fully and any of ur relative doesn't need the help of a " Nigerian Doctor". I have a whole lots of reasons to applaud this response. Previously, I do blame doctors for many of the problems we see in healthcare delivery in Nigeria. However, I have come to understand the reality. One thing I have discovered with a lot of Nigerians, including me, is the problem of being too quick to conclude without adequate premises, and consequently pass wrong judgement. Though, I have been enlightened, and so work to overcome this. Many thanks again for this wonderful explanation. |
Education › Re: Between Unizik And UNN, Which Is A Better Place To Study Pharmacy by Stephaustin(m): 1:18pm On Jun 16, 2018 |
emekatheo: If the young guy is in the southeast, he should take a trip to the two schools of Pharmacy and see some things for himself. He should also ask some questions once he is in the schools. The distance from Nsukka to Agulu is not that far so the guy can check out things for himself first. That not withstanding, all the Pharmacy schools accredited by NUC and PCN are good. Whether it is Unilag or Uniport or OAU or Madona or NDU or Unijos or ABU or OOU or any other Pharmacy school, they are all good. This type of comparison is not necessary as each school has its own strong and weak points. UNN is among the premier universities in Nigeria (you can't take that away) but the young ones are doing well and Unizik is among the young ones. Some people saying late Prof. Dora Akunyili started pharmacy school in Unizik or that she influenced the location of the Pharmacy school to Agulu don't have the facts. Prof. Dora Akunyili is a great Pharmacist and an erudite Professor but she did not start the pharmacy school in Agulu nor influenced it. The CEO of Juhel Pharmaceuticals Dr. Ifeanyi Okoye had more influence than most people in the establishment of Unizik Pharmacy school. UNN has more Pharmacy professors than Unizik but that is normal as UNN started long before Unizik came into existence and it's logical UNN should have more professors. Some of the UNN pharmacy professors still go to Unizik Pharmacy school as adjunct to lecture. The product from both pharmacy schools are good as I have interviewed some of them but some are still so timid and naive both UNN and Unizik. I think Agulu being closer to the capital city Awka exposes the Unizik pharmacy students to other social life compared to UNN pharmacy students that stays mostly in Nsukka which is a semi urban area. There was a time a ban was placed on participation in politics by pharmacy students in UNN (PANS was banned in UNN that period) and you know these things affect students socially. As at now UNN lost Pharmacy accreditation of PCN as some students or miscreants burnt down Pharmacology department. So no pharmacy student will graduate from UNN now until the accreditation is back. This will influence some students in choice making. Both UNN and Unizik pharmacy schools do plenty pharmaceutical research. UNN has plenty pharmacist researchers and most are internationally recognised. Unizik too has pharmacy researchers but not compared to UNN. There was a year the faculty of pharmacy Unizik won the best research faculty in the whole of Unizik. UNN has more Pharmacy lecturers compared to Unizik. Infact UNN lends some of their pharmacy lecturers to Unizik. If you talk of state of the art facility in terms of pharmacy school, Unizik has it far more than UNN. Good environment and facility matters in the training of a pharmacist. Where you are from might also play a role in getting admission faster as it seems UNN is more Pan Igbo compared to Unizik that looks as if it admits Anambra people more. But it still depends on other things. If you want to graduate faster I think I will suggest Unizik as all this internal faculty politics is not yet much in Unizik pharmacy when compared to UNN pharmacy. You study your pharmacy in peace and go your way. Both schools are good but what matters most is the effort the student is willing to put to make himself a better pharmacist. This is the best response I have seen. You did a great job here. |

Unizik shouldn't even be your 5th choice. There's no reason to back up your claims.

SpaceAngel: Op just go to anyone that gives you admission and make sure you come out with good grades, thats all. What matters in this country is the grade you made at school. Outside Nigeria, I'm afraid certificates from here are looked at with caution. Op, take the advice of graduating with good grades. However, disregard the information that grades are what matters in this country, unless you don't have a purpose in life. Grades are secondary; "good and dependable" knowledge is primary. |

stemmez: Larger number of profs that come to class to dictate notes. Any foool can dictate notes to students. So having high numbers of sadists, who are frustated add nothing to a school asides research.. If u grad, no one would ask u wia u grad frm! All required frm u is wat u can give Please tell them that. Yes, it is good to have many professors as your lecturers. But it is better to have doctors(PhD holders) that can do the job better than professors that dictate old and worn out notes without any latest information added in them. |

searchlight: lolsss Akunyili being a product and professor of pharmacy in UNN says it all. even the Zik in question founded UNN. in short we have two universities in Nigeria which is University of Nigeria and others lolsss Continue to deceive yourself with this idea of two universities in Nigeria. Unilag students will tell you the same thing. Students from most universities will tell you the same thing. Having completed one undergraduate program in one of the tertiary institutions and currently undergoing another in another tertiary institution, I have observed that the level of decay and neglect in our education system is very high and the same in all the institutions. As a student, you make yourself what you want to be. Many lecturers will dictate note and expect you to give them in tests and examinations exactly what they gave you in the class; this is not acceptable for a student's growth and development. It is not about the school or the certificate. It is about you and the solution you have to societal problems. The school just gives you the basics. I have observed that students who have achieved or in the process of achieving their goals went beyond what they were offered in schools. To the Op, choose any of the schools that has full accreditation by necessary bodies. Choose the school where you have better chances of being admitted to study your dream course. Then, go beyond the curriculum or your school in putting in your best to become a star in that field. Remember, time waits for no man. |
