Seeing Staphylococcus aureus in an m/c/s test does not necessarily mean what you're suffering from is caused by it. Staph is a part of the common flora on the human skin. In other words, it is usually found in urine m/c/s especially if the urine was not properly collected. Also yeasts cells are usually found in urine m/c/s if the urine was not properly collected. Sincere med lab scientists know when what they're seeing is a possible contamination of the sample used. Even when they don't, your doctor is trained to match the lab result with the clinical signs and symptoms he/she is seeing. This helps him/her know when the sample could have been possibly contaminated or when there could have been a mistake from the lab. Personally, I feel the Staph and yeast cells are contaminations from wrong collection of your urine sample. My advice: Don't waste your 25k with the pharmacist. Go back to the teaching hospital and inform the doctor that you're still having the symptoms. Ensure the person you're seeing is a dermatologist. There are many things the dermatologist knows that any other professional might not know. There are already reported cases of scabies that were difficult to treat. The difficulty could be as a result of different reasons such as resistance to the drug, Norwegian scabies which is seen in people that are immunocompromised, etc. Let me not go into the things that can cause the immune system to be compromised. In simple terms, the most trusted and safest person to manage this case is a dermatologist, but if you want, you can waste your 25k. Hungrychicken: 2 Likes |

EreluRoz: Hello! Could it be a coincidence that I discussed this with someone after church meeting today, only to meet the same thing on Nairaland? There are different things that can cause this. Nevertheless, I believe there are already a lot of suggestions by others on what you can do. However, if you're yet to find something that works for you, feel free to message me on WhatsApp (zero eight one, six eight seven seven, eight two nine three). We'll have a call to discuss this and find the solution to it. I wish you the best. |

ToksZee: I believe your uncle advised you based on the available information at his disposal. However, the truth of the matter is that it is easier getting the admission to study medicine in Nigeria than remaining a medical student or graduating a physician in Nigeria. This is the very clear truth in Nigeria, especially with government-owned institutions. The reverse may be the case in other parts of the world. However, people still take up seemingly difficult tasks/projects and succeed in it. As a medical student, you need more than academic intelligence to scale through medical school. You also need to understand yourself (your strengths and weaknesses), discipline, support system, etc. to successfully go through medical school. It is not to discourage you at all from studying medicine. In fact, if it's TRULY your PASSION, I strongly encourage you to go for it. You will be glad you did. Nothing good in life comes easy. I speak from my experience as a science laboratory technician and currently a medical student in a federal government-owned institution in Nigeria. 1 Like |

tlmiracle:I don't have much information on Physiotherapy. I guess other distinguished colleagues here can help you with the information you need. Nevertheless, if none of us has the information you need, then I think you'll need to search for students of Physiotherapy on different platforms. Suggested Methods: 1) if you're on LinkedIn, type in Physiotherapy in the search bar and filter the result to people and Nigeria, then go through the filtered result to gather profiles that may possibly have the information you need. You can then contact these people for the needed information on Physiotherapy. You can also narrow down the search/filter the result to respective schools. Also do same with "medical rehabilitation". If you're not on LinkedIn, 2) Create a topic/post, in the Education board of Nairaland, that may attract the people that have the information you need. 3) Google for schools in Nigeria that offer Physiotherapy. Then you can come back to Nairaland to look up for topics/threads created for those schools. Asking your questions in those threads may get you the information you need. The summary of the whole thing is to do everything you can to source the information you need to make better choices that can boost your chances of being admitted this year. Don't forget: admission in government-owned universities into medical/health-related courses today in Nigeria is the survival of the fittest. Goodluck. 3 Likes |

LamaNewton:Wow! This is really a great score. I really hope you don't waste this score out of preference for one school, only to regret your action tomorrow. Many persons I know are victims of this and still regret the effect(s) till date. I hope you don't be a victim. I guess you know that admission into medicine these days is becoming as tough as you cannot imagine. As the number of applicants keep increasing with geometric progression every year, the number of medical schools in Nigeria remains constant and the quota for the available ones remains constant with no remarkable increase (if there's any at all). As far as I know, undergraduate medical education is of very negligible (that's if there's any at all) or no difference at all in Nigerian medical schools. You can make your own enquiries/study and draw your conclusion(s) from there. To me, the basic things I consider while selecting/suggesting a medical school include a school that: 1) has full accreditation by MDCN; 2) is able to retain the accreditation over time (not losing accreditation over a long period of time is my index for measuring this. It is not a perfect index though; so you can choose yours); 3) does not delay her students unnecessarily (imagine spending 8+ years studying the medicine your classmates in other schools spend 6+ years (with maximum of 7) to study; 4) has produced doctors who have proven their worth in the society. Every other thing is secondary. If you confirm you have better or even best chances in Unical than any other school, I think it's better you leave it there. When you become a doctor, you can choose to go to Harvard Medical School and the like, if you have the money and make it into such schools, for your postgraduate studies. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

WeRblessed:I am studying in Nigeria. So the structure and terminologies may not be the same. In our common terms, I am a preclinical student (currently in 300level in medical school, about to write my Professional MBBS exam to move into 400level). I don't know if this fits as premed or stands in-between premed and medical student in your definition. |

Jerrypolo:If you're planning of changing school, I suggest University of Uyo. No post UTME and the highest cut of mark we've seen so far is 305 which was last two years. This was because of high rate of pass among students that year and it was also the same year the lowest number of students (48) were admitted against the usual 80+. Secondly, that has been the only the merit cut off mark got up to 300; normally, it's always between 280 and 300. So with your 315, I can say your being admitted is sure. Moreover, I am currently a medical student there. So if you need more information, feel free to ask. |
Education / Re: Please Help: What Science Course Can My Little Sister Study With This JAMB Res? by Stephaustin(m): 7:59am On Mar 20, 2020 |
It all depends on the departmental cut off marks of her school of choice. She should target universities that offer post UTME to help boost her chances. I think she will have better chances with Agricultural courses and Courses under Faculty of Science such as Microbiology, Zoology, Biology, Physics, etc. However, whatever course she's going for should be her passion. I wouldn't support anyone to go to university and waste 4 or 5 years on a course you'll never practice. That's a waste of time and resources. To avoid joining the league of SCHOOL IS SCAM, let her be ABSOLUTELY SURE that the course she's going for is her passion and dream and has a role to play in the pursuit of her dream. If not, I am sorry that she may just go there to waste her time. If she can't get a course that's in line with my earlier suggestion, I'll strongly advise she starts something else and then work more on her studies for better performance next year to get into her course of choice. If she's not going into school this year, I'll suggest she start acquiring RELEVANT skills in line with her big dream. The summary of all I'm saying is that she should be strategic and intentional about any choice she makes now. Let her sit down and properly define her dream and from there make her choices. This same school that has been labelled a scam by many people, even undergraduates and graduates, have made people also great in this life and is still making people great in this life. I KNOW WHY I AM SAYING THIS. 1 Like |

pstmikol1:If you like animals and would love to treat them, vet medicine then is good for you. However, I seriously doubt the availability of opportunities in Nigeria for doctors of veterinary medicine. Radiography is now a hot cake in Nigerian universities. Many people are not even aware of the course yet, and few universities offer it. Currently, you rarely see an unemployed radiographer (In fact, I don't even think there is any unemployed radiographer because radiographers are scarce). Most times, you see radiographers working in more than one hospital at the same time while some own their private establishments and still work in other hospitals. That's to show you how scarce they are. If you doubt me, ask people in medical/health professions. Talking about being the boss of your own, both courses can offer you such opportunity. Talking about prestige, radiography Talking about current job opportunities, radiography. In summary, if you don't have passion for the care for animals, please go for radiography. You can also read through the following topics and then make your choice. https://www.nairaland.com/4262876/mbbs-medical-radiography https://www.nairaland.com/4345768/admitted-study-vet-medicine https://www.nairaland.com/3059056/no-graduate-medical-radiography-unemployed https://www.nairaland.com/3903461/medicine-pharmacy-nursing-medical-laboratory 2 Likes |
