EcobankPay enables the merchant receive credit instantly. This is very important for working capital particularly for small businesses. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has recognized and awarded Ecobank Nigeria on its laudable sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The CBN at its 2018 annual awards for sustainability in Lagos, recognized Ecobank’s activities in four categories which include Sustainability Bank of the Year;; Sustainability Bank of the Year -oil and gas; Sustainability Bank of the Year -power sector and the Women Empowerment category – the bank was first runners up in all four categories. These recognitions are an acknowledgement not only of the bank’s efforts at supporting industrial sector development but also in the development of efficient sustainability programmes for the good of the citizenry.

The CBN Sustainability Awards – a part of the Nigerian Sustainable Banking Principle, NSBP, initiated in 2012, is an award that appreciates the efforts of financial service providers who have been able to successfully integrate social and environmental considerations into their operations, spanning across their processes and strategies.

In his comment, Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Patrick Akinwuntan, said: “it is a deliberate policy of Ecobank Nigeria to embark on sustainable projects that impact people and the environment. Last year we focused on removing plastic waste and other non-biodegradable elements from our streets, and this recorded huge success. We engaged young people to gather and bring to us at least one million plastic and glass bottles from homes, offices and drainages; these we bought from them for proper disposure by the authorities. This was done over a week period tagged the ‘Ecobank sustainability week’ during which we also organized symposia for secondary schools students to create awareness on tackling plastic wastes. On the CSR front, in 2018 we constructed boreholes for schools across the country and also embarked on many other CSR activities.”

Further he said, Ecobank is proud of its contributions to the development of the nation’s economy through its support for the oil and gas and power sectors. “I dedicate the awards to staff and customers of the bank who worked relentlessly towards maintaining high sustainable standards that has earned us the CBN awards. I assured that the bank will continue to embark on initiatives that impacts the people, environment and the economy”.

The Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Patrick Akinwuntan, has launched EcobankPay zone at Alaba International Market, Lagos, and expressed the bank’s commitment to continue innovating more payment and financial solutions to best serve traders across the country.

According to Akinwuntan, the bank has designated Alaba market as an EcobankPay zone, meaning that patrons of the market, Ecobank and non-Ecobank account holders, have more easy, secure and convenient ways to pay when they visit the market. He added that EcobankPay’s unique offering is that anyone from any bank in Nigeria can pay with MasterPass, mVISA and mCASH with any phone by scanning QR code or using USSD.

Traders, he said, can now enjoy more possibilities to grow their business as they can also sell to customers with EcobankPay in 32 countries in Africa. He added that “EcobankPay is free to set up as the shop owner only needs his/her QR code and phone for notifications to start receiving quick and easy payments.

EcobankPay, a special merchant QR Code product of the Pan African Bank, enables customers make seamless payment for goods and services across the three major payment platforms without the use of plastic cards. The uniqueness of the digital product according to the bank is that it has MasterPass, MVisa and Mcash embedded in the merchant identity QR Code. If the person that wishes to buy goods is coming from a bank that has MVisa and wishes to pay, the same QR Code would accept MVisa payment and vice versa. That creates interoperability and convenience for the merchants. The QR Code is much cheaper than having a point of sale (PoS).

For the merchants the beauty of the EcobankPay is in the cost of setting up, as the shop owner simply prints the QR Code on a paper and can stick it anywhere and do not run any risks. It is convenient and the mobile app is ubiquitous, it allows you 24/7 access, it is affordable and for every Nigerian. As a merchant on EcobankPay, you automatically have a QR Code that accepts all the three payment platforms – MasterPass, MVisa and Mcash. BusinessEcobank On Digital Technology For Affordable Services To Customers by Stephenfid(op): 9:06am On Feb 05, 2019
We’ve Built Digital Technology That Enable Us Deliver Seamless and Affordable Services to Our Customers - Ecobank MD

Lagos, 5 February, 2019 - The Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria, Mr Patrick Akinwuntan has asserted that the bank’s focus on technology and innovation is what drives it to be a leader in the provision of financial services across Africa. “We provide full service banking right from the wholesale business to the small, medium scale and to individuals. To do this, we've built technology services that enable us deliver our services in a convenient, accessible and reliable manner. This is affordable and sustainable to our customers, while also ensuring good returns to our shareholders,” he stated.

Akinwuntan, who had an interactive session with the media in Lagos, informed his audience that Ecobank which commenced operations in five countries in 1989 grew to become a formidable financial institution of repute in Africa and boasts of its presence in 40 countries in less than 30 years.

According to him, “We were established from day one as Pan African entity with shareholding from sixteen countries, and within our first year of operation, we had established in five countries – Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Ivory Coast. Today, we are present in 36 African countries and four outside Africa which are UK, UAE, China and France essentially to provide linkage to global reach and facilitate financial transactions of our customers.”

“We have a customer base of over 20 million as a group, with Nigeria accounting for about nine million of this figure; over 400 branches and 4,000 agency locations; and a balance sheet in the region of N2 trillion that shows that we have demonstrated ability to be a reliable keeper of customers funds and a reliable supporter of those who wish to borrow money to grow their business,” Akinwuntan continued.

He ascribed this growth to the quality of services the bank renders to its numerous customers, which hinges on the bank’s focus on innovativeness as a way of driving customer satisfaction.

The Managing Director listed some of these innovative products to include the deployment of over 4,000 agency locations known as Ecobank Xpress point which aimed at bringing banking to every neighbourhood; the Ecobank Mobile which brings banking to your palm; the Ecobankpay which is a payment solution that enables you to scan and pay with a mobile phone; the Ecobank Value card, an e-wallet that worked like a prepaid card which was introduced as far back as year 2000 when none of the international credit cards were available in Nigeria.

“If you came into Nigeria in 2002 with a Visa card, no ATMs in Nigeria accepted a Visa card. No ATMs accepted a MasterCard. None accepted any of the international card brands and as an individual in Nigeria, you could not apply for these cards. Once you put your Nigerian address, they tell you this service is not available in Nigeria. That, for us in Ecobank, was not acceptable. So, we took the bold step of going to MasterCard and Visa and said ‘why don't you allow us issue a MasterCard or Visa Card in Nigeria?. That discussion sparked off some other ones that led to the coming of Visa and MasterCard to Nigeria. Ecobank Nigeria was the first banking institution to issue an international card in Nigeria in 2004. Actually, that card was issued and used in this bank premises. The first time an ATM in Nigeria paid money on an international card happened in our premises”. He concluded.

Akinwuntan announced the bank’s yet another novel product of the bank, EcobankPay which is a payment solution that enables customers to scan and pay with their mobile phone or by using the *326# code to get into USSD platform and make payment seamlessly. He listed the benefits of this product to include instant transfer of funds without any chances of repudiation by the creditor thereby boosts the business of the vending partner. He explained that the “EcobankPay is affordable and almost risk-free, as you can have 100 QR codes at no additional cost. Also, you don't have to protect the code as it cannot remove money from your account because it can only receive money into your account.”

BusinessRapidtransfer App Ensures Nigerians Get 100% Of Remittances – Ecobank MD by Stephenfid(op): 12:28pm On Jan 29, 2019
The Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Patrick Ainwuntan has said the bank’s decision to charge zero fee of (on) RapidTransfer remittances is borne out of the need to ensure Nigerians abroad are able to send home 100 percent of monies made through hard work.
According to him,” “Because we are able to do it per scale and because we know that when Nigerians work abroad, close to 7 per cent to 8 per cent of their sweat is taken as commission when they are sending money home, we decided to make the cost of sending money home free.
We want 100 per cent of the money made through the sweat and hard work of Nigerians, find its way back to Nigeria, to support and develop our economy in Nigeria. This is why we made the RapidTransfer charges zero.”
The Ecobank Nigeria Managing Director, who was speaking during round table meeting with the media in Lagos noted that “any Nigerian in the Diaspora can download the Ecobank RapidTransfer App from any of the stores, attach his or her card, say in Canada, UK or US and remit $50, $30, £30, £25 or £100 instantly to a recipient in Nigeria. The recipient could have a bank account in Ecobank or any other bank in Nigeria”.
He affirmed that Ecobank leverages on the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), which he said has done a great job in bringing a common settlement platform for all the banks in Nigeria.

I walked into an Ecobank branch in Lagos on Tuesday and filled the form to purchase treasury bills. I was told the form will be scanned to my bank outside of Lagos to have it purchased. I just put a call through to my branch outside Lagos and the customer care officer told me they received my form, but are yet to bid because they have not received bid for this week.
He was trying to convince me to go for fixed deposit saying it was almost the same rates. He wasn't sounding like they planned on putting any effort soon to purchase the T.Bills.
My question is how can I speed up the process of getting this T. Bills. Thank you

BusinessRe: Tantalizers Pursues Expansion, Opens New Outlet In Ikare Akoko by Stephenfid: 10:23am On May 16, 2018
Wao this is good news for us staying at Ikare Akoko. Im so glad Tantalizer is here.
Tunukeobi:
Tantalizers, one of the leading brands in the nation’s Quick Service Restaurant sector, says its expansion program is fully on course as many towns in the country have been identified for new restaurant locations soon.
In pursuance of this business resolve, Tantalizers has opened a new outlet in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, bringing the brand’s number of outlets to over 60 across the country.

While speaking during the official opening of the new outlet located within the Forte Oil Filling Station Complex along Ikare-Arigidi-Akoko road, Deputy Managing Director of Tantalizers Plc, Mr. Gbolahan Labinjo, encouraged Nigerians to be a part of the brand’s growing franchise program.

He said the new outlet was opened in response to the desires of consumers in Ikare Akoko and environs for a qualitative QSR outlet that would serve and excite consumers in the entire Akoko area of Ondo state including Akungba, Oba and Arigidi.

Mr. Labinjo further stated that the new outlet would offer all Tantalizers product offerings including popular local favourites.
Tantalizers, a wholly indigenous QSR company is the only quoted company in its category on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and presently has over 60 outlets in the country.

The QSR is a one-stop restaurant brand that offers a wide variety of products and services including ‘local favourites’ which are the meals of the locality where each restaurant is located.

I mistakenly transfered money to one of the Beneficiaries I have on my GTB app. I immediately called my bank to report since I don't remember who the Beneficiary is. The next day I tracked the Beneficiary and he happened to be a guy I av sent money for payments before and he agreed to a reversal immediately, now it so happened that ECO Bank blocked his account due to me calling my bank earlier. Before he could ask for reversal they demanded all sorts of identification which we finally brought, but now my money is no longer in the guys account and he could not av withdrawn since his account is still blocked. We went to speak with the customer care at eco bank and aside their rudeness told me the money is hanging and its left for my bank to request a reversal. Went to my bank and they told me its left to eco bank for reversal and now I feel stock and don't know what to do. Since when did money start hanging and where exactly is it hanging or in whose account. Now I and the boy are confused the next step to take. And beside I feel ECO Bank is on the verge of shutting down.

BusinessRe: Have You Ever Been Short Payed By An ATM Machine? by Stephenfid: 2:58pm On Jul 15, 2016
The issue is frm the ATM programming, so you shud lay your complaint to Union Bank and not Ecobank
talktrue1:
Last week, I was at Enugu for a wedding and wanted to buy something worth of N65,000 from market. I went to use my Ecobank ATM card on Union Bank ATM along Ziks Avenue. I withdrew N20,000 three times i.e. N60,000 and put it in my bag. On getting to the seller, I removed N5,000 from my wallet and added to the money I withdrew from ATM. After counting the money twice in my presence, he said that the money is N62,000. I counted it back myself and it was short of N3,000. I searched my bag again and nothing was left inside

I was sure of the N5,000 from my wallet, and so definitely the shortage was from the ATM. Having withdrawn three times and having a shortage of N3,000, It therefore means that I was paid N19,000 on every N20,000 withdrawn.

I couldn’t go back to the bank for complaint since it was ATM transaction and I have never experienced such.

Na so I lost N3k for this hardship

Gidobaba:
Hello nairalanders. This is what ecobank did to me. On the 19th of June 2016, I got back to Nigeria from school. around 5AM, I attempted withdrawing some money using diamond bank Atm because it was closest to me. The money is what I was supposed to use for transportation to warri where I live. Instantly I got a debit alert and waited for my money that never came out. I didn't leave there until one hour passed because I've heard stories like this and the money comes out eventually. My people I waited and nothing showed up. I was so stranded in lagos because I had no one. Didn't even know how I could go about it but I was later able to reach my sister whom eventually, I got a transfer from hours later. Immediately I got home I started processing my complaint. I reached out to them via email and they assured me they were working on it. I also went to their branch and did all they asked from filling their forms to constantly visiting the branch but all was in futility. A week later I got the most insulting mail of my life. Ecobank sent me a mail insisting that I took the money. I also replied them telling them I didn't. Since then, all my mails haven't been replied, I've gone to their branch severally but the usual "don't worry we'd work on it" is what I get.

Good people, I've been through a lot. I don't know how to go about this anymore. I can't leave my cash with them. Someone suggested I get a lawyer and slam them with a suit.

Mods please help me get this to front page. I need as much advice and views I can get.
PoliticsIs Melaye Poster Boy Of Corruption? by Stephenfid(op): 11:16am On May 16, 2016
If you say Senator dino Melaiye is controversy personified, you are not far from the truth. The Kogi-born senator of the federal republic courts troubles effortlessly. If he is not having issues with his women, he firing tirades at party members or leading protest against one form of injustice or the other.

But he seems to have bitten more than he can chew in his latest public fiasco. Perhaps, smarting from British Prime Minister, David Cameron’s derogatory remark about the high level of corruption in Nigeria, the upwardly mobile politician had taken to twitter to deride Cameron for firing such a salvo at Nigeria.
