Business / Paul Kagame, And Two Other African Leaders To Speak At TEF Forum by Stephenmgj3e(m): 7:23pm On Jun 21, 2019
Paul Kagame, Macky Sall and Felix Tshisekedi, Presidents of Rwanda, Senegal and Democratic Republic of Congo , appear to have established themselves as great motivational speakers that they are been invited to speak at differentforums in different parts of the world. Only recently, Kagame was a guest of the Ecconomic and Financial Crimes Commision, EFCC, a government anti-Corruption agency , Headed by Ibrahim Magu, a Commissioner of police.

Kagame may not know whose ox is gored as he had told President Muhammadu Buhari and other African leaders to focus their efforts and passion on creating ”value, wealth and stop fighting Corruption which might not be eradicated in the next one decade”. The Rwandan President who see Buhari as the champion of African Union, AU, anti-Corruption opined that Corruption must be fought from ”top to bottom” using four principles: culture, responsibility, accountability and effectiveness.

Politics / National Assembly Leadership: South East Looses Out As Buhari Woo Lawmakers by Stephenmgj3e(m): 9:15am On Jun 11, 2019
The All Progressive Congress, APC, National Working Committee, NWC, at the instance of President Muhammadu Buhari, appears to have finally adopted the Principal officers of the Senate and the House of Representatives without any position being allocated for the south east geo-political region, comprising of Abia, Anambra, Eboyi, Enugu and Imo states.

Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia state who had championed President Muhammadu Buhari re-election bid by moving from state to state and reaching out to prominent Nigerians including Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, a retired Army General and former Head of State at his Hill top mansion, Minna, Niger state , to drum their support for him, had expected that the Katsina state born Nigerian President will support him to contest for the Deputy Senate President to represent the interest of the south east. He got it wrong.

Unknown to him the party NWC and the Presidency, have shared the principal offices of the National Assembly without any position being reserved for the south east. The position of the Senate President was allocated to the north east and Ahmad Lawan, a ranking Senator from Borno state was adopted by the Committee at in the instance of the President to be the party Candidate to contest for the position on the floor of the Senate.

Politics / Wike Accuses An Army GOC Of Involvement In Bunkering by Stephenmgj3e(m): 4:56pm On May 16, 2019
For years there have been rumour making the rounds that top military personnel have been involved in bunkering activities in the Niger Delta ,thus making it difficult for the Nigerian Naval personnel in the Eastern Naval Command and the various military Task Force that had been set up by past and present government to contain the activities of the Blunderers in the region.

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state may have taken advantage of his frosty relationship between him and Jamil Sarham, a Major General and the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers state to open up on as a Bunkerer, which should give President Muhammadu Buhari a cause for concern.

An aggrieved Wike, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governor of Rivers state, had told Akinjide Akirinade, a Rear Admiral, the Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe that the Army GOC is ”doing illegal bunkering to raise money to finance his quest to emerge as the country’s next Chief of Army Staff, CAS, if the President finally drops Tukur Buratai, a Lt. General and Chief of Army Staff and other Service Chiefs.

Politics / Kano Emirate: An Emir Unusual Era by Stephenmgj3e(m): 2:09pm On May 13, 2019
Those who think that Abdullahi Gandunje, governor of Kano state had balkanised the over 200 -year – old Kano traditional system ostensibly to weaken the influence and powers of Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi II, a former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and current Emir of Kano, who was recently appointed into the MTN, Board of Directors, would be disappointed.

This is because the governor , according to sources had held wide consultations at the state and the Federal level including meeting with the Kano Kingmakers who gave him the go ahead to create additional Emirates out of the old Kano Emirate.

ndeed, signs that Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, would have his Kingdom split emerged early after Gandunje, the All Progressive Congress, APC, governorship Candidate in the state won his re-election bid in the 2019 governorship election. The Value News learnt that he had repeatedly told those that cares to listen that if he state House of Assembly forwards a bill to him that requires his assent to create additional Emirates out of the old Kano traditional system, he will not hesitate to sign it.

Business / ANLCA: EFCC Intervenes To Save One Year -old Crisis by Stephenmgj3e(m): 2:43pm On May 11, 2019
Barely one year in office of the current Executive of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, ANLCA, led Nwabunike Tony iju, normalcy appears yet to return to the Association. This is because of the internal crisis in the Association which had to do with the refusal of a clique holding on to the documents of its property , thus making the current Nwabunike led EXCO as operating illegally in the office complex.

The situation is so worrisome that the ANLCA EXCO had accused Olayiwola Shittu, a former President of the Association of keeping away the documents to frustrate his successor in office. But Shittu will not take it. ”The ANLCA EXCO knew who is holding documents of the property but had refused to confront him”, he had said.

Politics / At Long Last Buhari Backs Call For True Federalism? by Stephenmgj3e(m): 1:09pm On May 11, 2019
At long last President Muhammadu Buhari, who had adopted lackluster attitude towards true Federalism through restructuring of the country had cued into it. He has become one of the Champions for the demand for true Federalism to achieve a lasting peace in the country.

The President may have been encourage to sing a different song with the high level of insecurity in different parts of the country. From Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, Benue, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Borno to Gombe, the story is the story: Insecurity. Take for instance, the north eastern states of Yobe and Borno, the Islamic Fundamentalists, BokoHaram, has been desperately fighting in the last 10 years with government forces and Multi-national Joint Task Force, MNJTF, to create an Islamic state in the region while Bandits have gradually taken over Zamfara state in the north west geo-political region and spreading their tentacles to Katsina, the President home state, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states.

The Katsina state born Nigerian President who could not hide his feelings at an award ceremony organised by the governors of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in his honour in Abuja, said ”true Federalism is necessary at this juncture of the nation’s political and democratic revolution”. He noted that ”some few privileged individuals and groups in the society are exploiting the and manipulating the ethnic and religious front-lines for seeking personal and partisan advantage ”.

Politics / EFCC: Why Saraki May Lose IHRC Ambassadorial Appointment by Stephenmgj3e(m): 10:44pm On May 10, 2019
Hopes of Bukola Saraki, a former governor of Kwara state and Senate president , who gave President Muhammadu Buhari led All Progressive Congress, APC, ruling government tough time in the last four years going back to Kwara, his home state, a free man after his four -year tenure as Senate President looks slim. This is because the Presidency appears to have set traps for him ostensibly to cut his wings using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Signs that tthe Kwara born politician may have problem when he eventually climbs down next June emerged when Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state and the APC national leader mocked him for losing the state Central Senatorial district to an unknown APC Candidate in the state, Ibrahim Oloriegbe of the Kwara Central Senatorial district .

Tinubu may have spoken the mind of President Muhammadu Buhari and Adama Oshiomhole, the party National Chairman when he declared that by losing the election, he has also lost all the powers of holding the Buhari Administration to ransom in the passage of the country’s yearly budgets which remained a major problem between the Executive and the Legislature in the last four years.

Events moved fast as the APC government controlled security agencies , particular the EFFC, went back to the drawing board to dust the six -year old case files of the Senate president preparatory to resuming investigation on him that may land him in Jail after quitting office next June.

Many believe that the Commission operatives had acted fast to forestall the Kwara state born politician from taking up the Ambassadorial appointment of the International Human Rights Commission, HRC. Note that that Saraki, the Senate President had accepted his nomination to serve in the Commission as an Ambassador after stepping down from his current position as Nigeria Senate President on April 10, 2019.

Politics / 2019: The Cry Of Nigerians by Stephenmgj3e(m): 3:59pm On Jan 10, 2019
For the first time in Nigerian political history, Nigerians are crying out that politicians seeking elective office are not spreading the money to seek their support. Aggrieved Nigerians who spoke to The Value News cited the 2015 Presidential election where money was distributed freely to reach out to voters through various Associations ,Mosques and Churches.

They had expected President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, and Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP, the front runners in the February 16, 2019 , Presidential election to electrify the polity by spreading the money to show that it is an election year. Recall that Atiku, who emerged the PDP, Presidential Candidate had spent millions of dollars to woo delegates at the party Primaries in Port Harcourt that other Candidates who could not match his spending were forced to back down and support him.

Politics / Atiku: Giving A Dog A Bad Name by Stephenmgj3e(m): 7:32pm On Jan 09, 2019
On November 14, 2018, the Saturday Sun led its front page with the bold headline: “The Atiku Dilemma,” with two accompanying riders: 1. We want to prosecute him for graft but no evidence to nail him, says Itse Sagay; and 2. Ex-VP now vindicated – PDP.

Sagay is chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), one of the bodies empanelled by President Muhammadu Buhari to deepen his so-called war against graft in Nigeria.

Given the albeit selective disposition of the Buhari administration to the war against corruption, it was expected that it would fire a rebuttal or even query Sagay for giving the President’s main challenger in the February 16, 2019 election such a weighty clean bill. But days, weeks and months have since passed without even a caution to Sagay.

Signs that there would be trouble started at Egbeda, Alimosho local government area, when the party tugs who wore Ankara uniform with the duo of Sanwo Olu and Hamzat effigy on it, were at the Mopol patrol vehicle carrying some policemen who were armed to the teeth to clear the road. Politics / 2019: Why Buhari Could Not Bow To Pressure To Sack Amina Zakari by Stephenmgj3e(m): 9:25pm On Jan 08, 2019
Those who are still pushing for President Muhammadu Buhari to relieve Mrs. Amina Zakari, the Jigawa state born top official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of her appointment would be disappointed. This is because Buhari may not have seen any reason to sack her as he believes she is performing her duties diligently without blame.

The offence she may have committed , according INEC, sources was her appointment as the Head of the Commission Collation center and Logistics by Mahmood Yakubu, a Professor and Chairman of the Commission, which the people’s Democratic Party, PDP, Coalition of Political Parties, CUPP, and critics have capitalised on to call for her sack to ensure a free, fair and credible Presidential election on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Politics / 2019: Wike’s Smooth Ride To Brick House? by Stephenmgj3e(m): 7:35pm On Jan 07, 2019
Nyesom Wike, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governor of Rivers state, appears set to return as the occupant of Brick House, the Rivers state government House, after Saturday, March 2, 2019 governorship election.

This is because there is no clearly defined governorship Candidate of the rival Opposition All Progressive Congress, APC, from the state to slug it out with him in the election. The two claimants to the position, Tonye Cole, a Lagos based oil baron, who has the backing of Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers state and minister of Transportation and Magnus Abe, a Senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria are still battling it out to win the heart of the party leadership to be endorsed as the governorship Candidate of the party.

The case of Cole may have been made worse by the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division which confirmed an earlier judgment by a High Court in a case brought against him by Senator Abe, one of the aggrieved governorship candidates and former close political ally to Amaechi, erstwhile governor of Rivers state, who felt shortchanged in the governorship primaries and thus may not be ready to allow him stand in for the election.

Politics / 2019: Buhari Road To Rigging by Stephenmgj3e(m): 7:05pm On Jan 05, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari of the Ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, appears to have prepared the ground to rig himself to power in the 2019 Presidential election despite the repeated assurance to Nigerians that the elections will be” free,, fair and credible”.

He may have given the impression that the elections need not be a ”do or die affair”, insisting that he will deliver on his promises of providing a ”level playing field at the polls ” to ensure peace, security and inclusiveness that Nigerians would be proud of a country that could hold its own among the comity of nation. That was how far he could go.

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, have raised alarm that the Katsina state born President may be speaking with the other side of the month as he did not mean what he had said. The party had criticised the appointment of Amina Zakari , a blood relation of the President by Mahmood Yakubu a professor and Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission to oversee the National Collation and Logistics Committee, which gives her Committee exclusive powers to oversee the Collation centers throughout the country during the election.

Politics / Buhari's New Year Message To Nigerians by Stephenmgj3e(m): 4:59pm On Jan 01, 2019
It is my utmost pleasure to rejoice with all Nigerians as we enter the year 2019, which will be a very significant one for our country.

At the turn of every year, we often use the opportunity to look back at the past and forward to the future. To review the outgoing year, its high and low points, successes and failures, and be fully thankful to God.

We Nigerians are a religious people, and we believe that God reigns and rules in the affairs of men. A time like this offers precious opportunity for thanksgiving, stock taking and reflection on goals and targets set for the receding year, and how much was accomplished. The ones not done can then be rolled over into a new year.

Politics / Shagari: How Governor Tambuwal Took The Shine Off Buhari Over His Death by Stephenmgj3e(m): 4:17pm On Dec 30, 2018
When Shehu Shagari, died on Friday, December 28, 2018 after a brief illness at the National Hospital, Abuja, people had expected President Muhammadu Buhari, of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, to announce his death to the nation as a former President.

Late Shagari had ruled the country on the platform of the National Party of Nigeria, NPN, between October 1st, 1979 and December 31, 1983, before he was toppled in a military Coup, which truncated the Second Republic. Politics / 2019:Buhari Flags Off Campaign by Stephenmgj3e(m): 6:06am On Dec 30, 2018
For the past two weeks, there have been rumours making the rounds that President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressive Congress, Presidential Candidate, seeking re-election in the 2019, general elections appears unprepared to flag off the much talked about Presidential Campaigns in Akwa Ibom state, South south Nigeria. This is because of his alleged health challenge and unresolved allegations of being controlled by a cabal in the Presidency.

The argument of the critics was that he might not be able to stand the rigours of the Campaign and the claims that Ahmeed Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state and the APC National leader who was alleged to have rejected the appointment to head the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation might be conspicuously absent on the Campaign ground .

Unknown to many , the APC, Presidential Candidate may not have been in a hurry to jump into the Campaigns proper as his foot soldiers had been sent out to gauge the mood of Nigerians and their thinking about the ruling APC government.

Crime / The Battle For Control Of Baga Fishing Town by Stephenmgj3e(m): 5:39am On Dec 30, 2018
Those who think that the Multi-National Joint Task Force, MNJTF and the Nigerian Army, have succeeded in dislodging the Abubakar Shekau’s led BokoHaram insurgents in the fishing town of Baga, Kukawa local government , of Borno state, would be disappointed. This is because the insurgents are still holding on to the well trained MNJTF and Nigerian soldiers in a fierce battle for control of the fishing town.

Sani Kukasheke Usman, a Brigadier General, and Director of Army Public Relations had said last week that the situation in Baga was under control, stressing that ”residents have no cause to worry”.Thousands of people were said to have fled the town with a few of their personal belongings to Maiduguri , the state Capital, to avoid being killed in the cross fire.

As at press time, some of the run-away residents of the Baga fishing town,, mostly women and children were yet to be accommodated by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, as they roam about the streets of the City, exposing them to further danger, thus making a mockery of president Muhammadu Buhari Security measures in the north east.

Crime / Borno: Boko Haram Attacks Too Many by Stephenmgj3e(m): 9:15pm On Dec 28, 2018
Ever since Kashim Shettimah, governor of Borno state , planned to establish a dry port in Baga to take advantage of its coastline to boost the economy of the state, Boko Haram insurgents appear to have made several attempts to take over control of the town from the military overseeing it.

The insurgents were said to have severally engaged the Multi-national Joint Task Force, MNJTF, and Operation Lafiya DOLE in an open combat for control of the town. Indeed, at one time the insurgents had taken over the town which is about 196 kilometers to Maiduguri, the state capital. At another time the military had recovered the town and ordered the residents to return as normalcy returns.

The situation was so bad in 2014, that the military had to close the Maiduguri-Baga road to mop up the area. Habib Kekeno, a one- time Caretaker Chairman of Kukawa Local government area , confirmed that in November 2014 alone, Baga suffered five major attacks from the BokoHaram insurgents. Investigation by the Value News shows that before the insurgency over 300 lorry loads of fish were usually transported to Maiduguri and other parts of the country from the fishing town in a week. At present no single truck comes from the town to Maiduguri, an indication that the insurgents were still holding Baga hostage.

Crime / Smugglers Are Worse Than Armed Robbers-kirawa by Stephenmgj3e(m): 4:56pm On Dec 26, 2018
Abdullahi Kirawa, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs and National Coordinator, Comptroller General Strike Force, CGC SF, has no sympathy for smugglers. Kirawa, who believes there was no difference between smugglers and armed robbers as the two set of criminals were used to hard drugs and weapons to carry out their nefarious activities.

This is evident going by the number of officers who had been killed in different parts of the country for daring to challenge them for smuggling parboiled rice and other prohibited goods from Republic of Benin and other neighbouring countries into the Nigeria market. Kirawa, the CGC National Coordinator of the Strike Force may have mobilised members of the team in the south west, north central, north west , north east and the south east to be on the alert to curtail the activities of the smugglers to create a condusive environment for Nigerian rice farmers and manufacturers to thrive .

Politics / Aso Rock Cabal: Jonathan Laughs Last by Stephenmgj3e(m): 4:43pm On Dec 26, 2018
Until he left office on May 29, 2015, Former President Goodluck jonathan, never escaped criticisms that he had allowed the Ijaw cabal in the Presidency including Patience ,the then First lady to hijack his government.

The critics had claimed that he has no mind of his own as the cabal dictates to him what to do. He was said to have done everything within his powers including making sensitive political appointments and appointment of Service Chiefs, to prove that he was in full control of his government but that was how far he could go. The damage had already been done as former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other power brokers who could not have their hold on the government threw their weight on Muhammadu Buhari, the then Presidential Candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, who had made three previous attempts to rule the country through the ballot box but failed .

Many had expected that with Jonathan out of the way at Aso Rock, the Seat of Power in Nigeria and with Buhari, a retired Army General and former Military Head of State on the saddle, the question of a cabal in the Presidency running the government would have disappeared. Instead, the cabal phenomenon in the Presidency had become more pronounced than ever.

Worried by the increased rate of smuggling of foreign parboiled rice and other prohibited goods through the nation’s land border’s into the country, President Muhammadu Buhari appears to have taken up the matter with Patrice Talon, his counterpart in Republic of Benin on how to tackle the problem.

As a prelude to curbing smuggling activities in the Lagos -Abidjan corridor, Paulete Yekpe, the Republic of Benin Ambassador to Nigeria has confirmed a planned meeting between the governments of Nigeria, Niger and Republic of Benin, to establish a framework on how to address rice smuggling in the sub-region.

Yekpe disclosed that the smuggling of rice and other profited items into the Nigeria market through unapproved route posed a threat to the relationship between the three ECOWAS member countries.

Business / Why Nigeria Has Not Signed The ECOWAS Common External Tariff? by Stephenmgj3e(m): 6:46pm On Dec 25, 2018
More facts have emerged why Nigeria has not signed the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Common External Tariff, CET, five years after it was adopted by the 16 Head of States and Government of member countries including former President Goodluck Jonathan, in Dakar, Senegal. This is because the CET model may not have favoured Nigeria and the fear of losing the market because of unfair competition with the foreign competitors.

The CET model which was said to have been patterned after the UEMOA CET composed of four tariff bands of Customs duty: Essential social goods, zero percent duty, goods of primary necessity, raw materials and specific inputs,5 percent, Immediate goods, 10 percent and final consumption goods, 20 percent.

Politics / Buhari’s Last Budget Receives More Knocks Than Kudos by Stephenmgj3e(m): 11:09pm On Dec 23, 2018
The 2019 budget presented by president Muhammad buhari on the floor of the National Assembly has come under criticisms from analysts, economists and opposition. Prominent among those that have pooh-pooh the budget was Bukola Saraki, the Senate President. Saraki had said that the figures in the budget ”underlined the hopelessness of the document as it did not tally when government was initiating high spending”.

Atiku abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who has consistently criticised Buhari’s economic policies was amused that the President could deceive Nigerians that his government has completed projects that have long been abandoned or far from completion. His views coincide with that of the party that the President should ” apologise to Nigerians for lying over completion of projects which was never completed. Kola Ologbondiyan, the party Director of Publicity, said the deliberate falsehood on projects was designed to misled the nation and the world. He pointed out the claim that ”ugwashi–uku Dam in Delta state was completed” was not true as the project had been abandoned.

There had been rumors over the last three months that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia state and President Muhammadu Buhari close political ally from the southeast was dead. Unknown to people, Kalu had been suffering from an undisclosed and life threatening sickness, forcing him to be frequenting an unknown Hospital in Germany over the last four months.Prior to his resorts to visits to the Germany hospital for medical treatment he had championed Buhari’s re-election bid by traversing the nooks and crannies of the country to reach out to influential Nigerians believed could help the All Progressive Congress’ APC, Presidential Candidate win the 2019 election.
