TravelRe: Usa Visit Visa by Stevenjel: 9:07pm On Jul 01, 2014
Yarn: Hello great people in the house. I'm not 100% new on Nairaland but I lost my account due to the NL attack.

Please I need advice. My fiancee (girlfriend of 3 years) is a US/Nigerian dual citizen, we are in Nigeria and we want to relocate to the US after our marriage in a few months. I have never left Nigeria before (a virgin passport), and she doesn't know anything about the US visa process.

My best friend lives in the US so I am thinking of getting a visit visa to see him (and maybe add a software conference to my travel reasons), so if I can get a 2 year multiple entry visa I don't mind coming back to Nigeria as often as I need to (I don't plan to overstay or do anything illegal or stupid). The plan is for her to come along once I get a visa, and for us to begin processing residency papers (for me) once we get to the US.

Background: I have a B.Sc. and I have been working as a self-employed software developer. I'm also in some contract partnerships with software companies in Lagos. One of them has promised that they can provide me an official letter for visa purposes if necessary.

Besides just relocating for its own sake (and for the sake of my wife to be, who wants to return to the US), I am actually interested in pursuing postgrad studies in the US (Ph.D. preferably but due to studying in Nigeria I lack some research experience and may need to do an MSc first). I have been admitted for MSc before but couldn't go because I didn't get funding - and I couldn't defer it. If i get into the US I will definitely apply for postgrad studies again.

Someone said mentioning my fiancee's citizenship will likely be a bad move (I think so too, so I was not really going to do that). Another said I should try to visit another country first to increase chances of getting US visa. Yet another person said for a first-timer I will likely be given only single-entry and like maybe 1 month or 3 months!

How do you advice I should go about this process? I am totally clueless.

Thanks a lot.
Hey man, I just feel it might as well work for you if you try to get admission in the US, then apply for F1 visa. Then during your studying period, you can arrange a marriage with your fiance over there and then apply for ur permit. I just feel F1 visa is one of the easiest visa to the USA, just for you to get a good university and be ready to defend defend ur reasons for trying to study in the USA. Just my little knowledge though.

Good day people. I got my visa approved today. I attribute this success to the power of prayer and good work of nairaland people, especially tsetsefly. Thanks so much. I have been following this page since November that I got my invitation letter and it's bn so helpful.

It was really a wonderful experience. The Crowd too much. I booked 8am, was interviewed around 12pm. My interview didn't last up to 3mins, but full of divine favour. Cos I was so nervous that I found it difficult to grab what the white lady was saying at first attempt. She repeated nearly all her questions twice before I could grab... Lolssssssss.

Here goes the short interview...

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning how are you?
ME: Fine, and U? (she didn't answer me. I was scared)
VO: Why are you going to the US
ME: To attend a conference
VO: Who are the the people organising the conference?
ME: told her the association
VO: What is the association all about
ME: I explained to her in one sentence.
VO : are you married?
ME: No, but am getting married at soso month and date.
VO: oh you are engaged?
ME: yes, with a smile.
VO: Have you travelled out of Nigeria before?
ME: No, I was supposed to go for a program in South Africa last year, but the programme was postponed to a time I was so busy at work. (this is because I have an expired south Africa visa on my passport.
VO: What do you do?
ME: I am a teacher and I also work at XY (she gave a nod, from there I felt a wind of success. She then took her time to read through the computer)
VO: What subject do you teach?
ME: told her the two subjects I teach, exactly the way I wrote it in my DS-160
VO: What is your income
ME: I told her in Naira, and she immediately checked the conversion on paper at the wall.
VO: Am approving your visa, pick your passport on Tuesday at the location you selected (she brought out the white paper and circled my pick up point with a pen.
ME; Thank you.
VO: You are welcomed.

I felt like jumping up, but I considered the crowd sitting behind me... Lolssssssss.

Note: She did not ask for any document at all.

There was a Chinese guy at cubicle one... He was just denying like Child play. But I told God that He must not interview me.

My sincere advice...
Fill your DS-160 carefully and sincerely. And don't go outside what you filled in it.
Answer questions with confidence
Let your trip be relevant to your work (if it's business or conference trip)
Then pray to God for divine favour.

I told God in my prayer that I wanted a visa officer that will relate with me as a friend, and sincerely, the woman was so friendly. Prayer works!

Thanks.

FamilyAdvice For Couples by Stevenjel(op): 1:28pm On Jan 04, 2014
ADVICE FOR COUPLES

Pencil: I'm sorry

Eraser: For what? You didn't do anything wrong.

Pencil: I'm sorry because you get hurt because of me. Whenever I make a mistake, you're always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself and get smaller and
smaller each time.

Eraser: That's true, but I don't really mind. You see, I was made to do this. I was made to help you whenever you do
something wrong. Even though one day I know I'll be gone, I'm actually happy with
my job. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad.

If couples can live like pencil and erazer, and believe they are meant to clean each other's errors, believe me, the rate of divorce will reduce in our world today.

Say no to divorce, learn to say i am sorry, and never take divorce as an option.

Lets tolerate each other.

Get this book "Power of a Praying Woman". It may sound somehow, but believe me, prayer does wonders, especially when it comes to this difficult stage. 3 days fasting and prayer would change your case forever. Believe me, you own that house and you must claim it. Don't be tired please and don't take divorce for an option. Just my kind advice.

Yes, it's easy, but consider his age, 12, and the brain pollution of this our generation, the boy really tried. Psalm 119 is long enough to be a textbook you know. Lol

Good evening people, please I would be attending an education conference in March 2014. I am a teacher working with Lagos state Government and at the same time working with other organisation as part time staff. I also have a nursery and primary school. Not married!

Please what are the necessary documents needed to be presented at the embassy?

When is the best time to fix for the interview?

Do I have a space to fill all the details of my job in the form, such as Lagos State Government Staff, facilitator at a private organisation and a proprietor of a small nursery and primary school.

NOTE... I have an expired south African visa which I did not use on my passport. Hope this will not limit my chance.

Thank you.

TravelI Was One Of The Reasons Why US Barred Nigeria From Visa Lottery – Kemi Olunloyo by Stevenjel(op): 4:33pm On Sep 18, 2013
Hope you remember her, the controversial daughter of former governor of oyo state. Here is what she posted on her blog.

Nigerians bombarded me with questions today
on why the visa lottery ended. Did I not tell you
that I was one of the reason it was gonna END?
Why does America need Nigerians? Our people
have killed their wives. 17 Green Card lottery
winners were in the bloodbath of wife killing
across the years in the USA, Nigerian youth are
continuously scamming Americans, our people
hate gays and lesbians and we even have one
terrorist over there serving a life sentence.
So when I wrote the State department in 2012
and posted the letter on Facebook you were all
cussing me out that I am discouraging
opportunities for others. Come on, you guys
ruined this country for people like me that lived
30 years in America and came home to violence
in 2006 forcing me to flee back thru Canada. The
Canadians aren’t wanted either. So now, Nigeria
and some other countries will no longer be
eligible to participate in the America Diversity
Visa lottery program. I am very happy because it
will give Nigerians the opportunity to build their
own country.
Information from the United States Department
of State sighted on Sunday said Nigerians and
citizens from few other countries were not
eligible for DV-2015
The department said Nigeria was excluded since
over 50,000 Nigerians had immigrated into the
United States in the last five years.
The department listed other countries not
eligible as Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China
(mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic,
Ecuador, El Salvador and Haiti.
Others are India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria,
Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United
Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its
dependent territories, and Vietnam
However, many African countries would continue
to enjoy the lotto.

Ha! Ha! Stay home and fix your country.
