Hasheem Suleiman, the 33-year-old man who set out on a foot journey from Lagos has finally arrived his destination, in Abuja.


Suleiman embarked on the walk to commemorate the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as President of Nigeria.

He made a vow to trek from Lagos to Abuja if Buhari wins the presidential election.

When arrived at Abuja, he was accorded a hero’s welcome by hundreds of people who came out to celebrate his feat.

In an exclusive interview with The Nation, Nollywood actress and filmmaker Fathia Balogun Williams said her failure to pass Joint Admissions & Matriculation Board, JAMB exam prevented her from achieving her academic goals.

Fathia who said she wished to become a lawyer revealed why she quit law and how she joined Nollywood in 2000.

In her words:
“So, I went to study diploma in Law at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. But that one too became too wide for me, the reading was getting too much. I left and travelled to the UK. By that time, I had been introduced to acting.

“A brother and family friend introduced me to the late veteran actor, Kokonsari. Along the line, I met the likes of Dele Odule, Toyin Adegbola, the late Ireti Adekola and many others. But I started fully when I returned to Nigeria in 2000.”

Recently my android phone almost gave me a headache. The screen of my android phone kept jerking and there were automatic touches even without me doing anything.

When this happens, these automatic touches will keep automatically opening and closing applications without my consent. I tried placing the phone on the table but still this scenario continued. I was so sad because I could do nothing on the phone. This behavior was quite frequent on hot days and less frequent in cold days. I did a little consultation and discovered that most of my peers too had this problem of automatic screen touches and automatic opening of apps. A majority of them said it happens more often when their hands are somehow sweaty due to jelly or oil applied to their hands.

I tried;

1.restarting my garget
2.disabling automatic screen rotation
3.disabled a few options in the developer options excluding 'Force Hardware Rendering'
4.factory resetting the phone
5.even wiped all data in Reboot mode

When I attempted the above, in some occasions the automatic touches stops a little but it then came back after a few days.
Solutions,

I did my research further and found out the solution to this maddness in android phones and tablets. I found out that this problem may be due to two causes and hence therefore I will share with you both the two solutions to help you stop jerking and automatic touches on screens of your android phones and tablet.

1.In my case, I discovered that the automatic touches on the screen of my android phone was mainly caused by some static electricity or oil on my screen which was making it to 'think' and act like I am touching it. This is what caused the automatic touches and automatic opening and classing of apps on my phone. To solve this problem, try giving the phone a good wipe with a slightly wet clothe to get rid of the oil, wash your hands well enough and dry them and try maintaining them clean, dry and free from oil. Also if you have been using electronics such as computers and laptops or even tablets, you should earth yourself by touching a metal in contact with the ground or metal water pipes with one hand. This will get rid of the static electric charges in your body. Remember to do this regularly depending on how long and regularly you are exposed to the charges from the electronics you use.

2.In another case however, the jerking and automatic touches on screens of your android phones and tablet may be due to manufacturing defect in the tourch screen of your android phone or tablet. Faulty touch screens are common with android phones and tablets. To detect this, you can enable 'Show touches' or 'Visible touches'in the developer options in the settinngs menu. This will enable you to see where the touches appear and this will prove your screen is defective. Alternatively you can install the paint program from google play store and run it on your android phone or tablet. Let the progam run and all the automatic and false touches will be painted on the screen. With this you can see where the touches are happening and maybe you mcan notice a pattern such as all being in one strip of the screen or all appearing at one point of the screen. This will confirm to you that there are faults in your touch screen. In this case, make use of your warranty, return your tablet or android phone to your dealer for replacement.

The editor of the BBC, Mansur Liman, explains how he broke the story of the historic phone call from Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan to admit election defeat – and how it almost didn’t happen.

I was at the election results centre in the capital, Abuja, and at around 17:00 (16:00GMT) the votes from all but three states had been declared.

Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), had the lead over incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

During a break in the results, it became obvious to me that the lead was unassailable and I began wondering about what was going on in the APC camp. Were they celebrating or still anxiously waiting?

Going by previous Nigerian elections, when rigging and results fiddling has allegedly taken place, nothing could be taken for granted.

It turns out that so many calls were coming through that there was no time to answer them all – and Gen Buhari did not even know where his phone was.

I thought that there would still be some more bumps on the road, given the passion in the campaign and the fact that a governing People’s Democratic Party official had already tried to halt the count.

I have a lot of contacts within Gen Buhari’s circle and I know him personally so I decided to try and call someone who I knew would be with him to find out the mood.

After he missed my call, and I missed his response, I eventually got through.
‘Unimaginable’

I asked him what was going on, given that there was no way President Jonathan could win and I was surprised by the response.
He told me that Gen Buhari had just received a phone call from his rival, in which the president conceded and congratulated him.

I did not doubt that this was true as I trusted my source, but given what has happened before in Nigeria, this kind of concession was up to that point unimaginable.

I was pretty sure that I was the first journalist to get the story so as soon as I got off the phone I alerted the BBC’s election desk and tweeted the details.

There were, of course, people who were very concerned about what could happen if the result was contested.

And I have since discovered that members of the National Peace Committee, which is headed by former President Abdulsalami Abubakar, visited President Jonathan as the results were being announced.

I understand they were the ones who persuaded the president to do something to avoid any trouble, and shortly after the visit he made the call.

‘Pick up the phone’

But even making the call was not straight forward. I heard later that the president could not actually get through to Gen Buhari.
He rang all the numbers he had for people in his camp, but no-one answered.

It turns out that so many calls were coming through that there was no time to answer them all – and Gen Buhari did not even know where his phone was.

President Jonathan resorted to sending a messenger round to his rival’s house to tell him that the president wanted to speak to him. And that he should pick up the phone the next time he tried to call.

By making that call the president saved Nigeria a great deal of pain. If the PDP had insisted that they had won the election, and the APC had said the same, the country would have been in chaos.

Lives would have been lost and property would have been destroyed. That call showed that in Nigeria, people can put the country first.

I have heard from PDP supporters that the president took the decision to make the call without consulting anyone. They told me that if he had talked to some of his advisers, they would have objected.
