Good. Never wanted commenting but since you have commented i should input. One can defer and still remain in the state. Ur international office will issue you CPT so u can go and work, earn and return to skool and fund ur studies. but i think this process is possible after 1 full year of studies in ur skool.

bigfrancis21: How sure are you of this? I know someone who studied a semester here and deferred by 2 semesters. He's still in the US to resume school next year.

US Immigration Law does not expressly forbid neither has it expressly stated where it says you must return to your home country if you defer while in US. I have been searching google for such law and so far I am yet to see where it is stated. If you have evidence to prove your statement, I stand to be corrected though.

Just give the person that want to send the money ur gtb account details. if u wana buy anyfin wit it here, jux use it same way u used d card in naija

Feexo: Decreamaster, I don't know how the PM thing works because I prefer to throw issues on the floor of the house to elicit myriad of responses from people, but if you insist on that, tell me how to go about it.
House, which is the cheapest way of receiving money from Nigeria using my GTBank debit card here? MsNas once said something about swiping card and buying money order- using Walmart or Kroger- but I can't seem to remember how she explained it.

What course are u interested in? from what u have for application processes i will suggest ur application should be on two scale. apply to a CC and a full degree awarding uni. You will need SAT, and prolly Toefl. Now, search for skools that offer the course u want to go for and check their admission requirements. Dont Stuck ursef 2 a skool. make sure u sample about 3-4 skools. use usnews.com and also try searching for skool that offer ur course through google, make sure u check their admission requirements and their credibility. all the best.

MsNas: All are good. I'm in IT as well. Just zero your mind that it's not gonna be a walk in the park, but you can do it.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by streetMic(m): 3:54am On Aug 17, 2014
MsNas: It's good you change your course if as you know Anthropology isn't good enough for you. Talk to your international student advisor, that shouldn't be much of a problem. My question is, why Business Administration? Why not something in the STEM field if your reason for changing majors is so you can do a course that is bankable enough? Don't get me wrong, Business Administration is a good enough course. But you will find a lot a American citizens doing the same course. Preference is gonna be given to them in a job interview. Look for something that will be make you employable at the end of your course.
What will u say about communication studies to IT or medicine or even engineering?

dimmy08: Please how do u file for SSN, some1 told me its gonna take up to a year b4 u can file. Please explain this oooooo
Get any on campus offer, then go set up an international employment with your school's office of business operations. they will provide all the forms you will be needing for you and give you further directives. Never stand on info u get from people(especially negative) as a standard. just like the VO told you way before you got your access to USA, every applicant have a peculiar case. some people come in here with the 'Hollywood' movie mindset, odas like me see coming here as mere relocation and its normal as a human that you will need harder press to survive a new environment and make things work to your taste/conditions. Anything you face or feel like doing, make sure its legal...walk towards the department/people responsible for it in your environment and ask on directives on how fast it can be done. there are exception to every rule and I always see myself as exception to stringent rules. In all believe God, work hard and be real to yourself. We Are Here to Stand Firm and Strong! Rijo already got an SSN.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by streetMic(m): 3:11pm On Aug 15, 2014
MsNas: Yeah, Its an okay plan. But still you have a mountain to climb. After you get your SSN you still have to look for an employer that will employ you with that kind of SSN. Cos on the SSN card for Internationals it is boldly written NOT VALID FOR WORK WITHOUT DHS APPROVAL. You might be lucky and work at a place where they only collect your SSN number and not demand for the card and do a background check, other places with ask for the card and also run a background check. Most places that will pay you salary good enough to live on and also save some part of it towards your tuition will definitely do a background check on you.

PS: If you defer your admission after a semester, you're expected to go back to Nigeria and not stay in America. Staying back might cause the school not to reinstate you back for your program because you violated the premise of your F-1 Visa. What I will suggest is, since you're a masters student, try to pay the first semester of school fees and afterwards look for a GA. Its not carved in stone that you must work as a GA in your department. You can get GAs in other department (two of my friends got GA in department not even remotely related to theirs) or look for a non academic GA on campus. Just walk all around campus and let them know you're in dire need of one. Americans love the good sob story of an African who defied all odds (for their mind undecided) to come to school in Africa. Once they know you may go back to Africa cos you cant pay your tuition, something might show. I really don't like the idea of deferment.

All in all, its a hard road. But I appreciate your honesty and zeal to succeed. Not many people will come out in the open like this on a forum like this and make their problems know. I know the circumstances are beyond your power and I pray you find favor in the eyes of God and man. I will keep you in my prayers.
You are a mentor!

Feexo: Ojap, Imperiouxx, BigFrancis, Msnas and others, I have been in NY for 5 days trying to raise money for my tuition- my school has a student-friendly payment plan- and I have started making progress. Registration for fall deadline is August 31st, and I plan to go by 20th-25th, because I am still expecting some money. A Nigerian I know in the school says I would get my: state ID, student ID and SSN like a month after registration. Ultimately, I plan to defer after 1 semester- assuming I will have gotten my SSN- and defer for another semester or a year, work with my SSN, make some money and return to complete the program before proceeding to doctorate. My research professor emailed me and did encourage and sympathize with me too.... cheesy

I am still banking on God... What do you guys think of my plan? Is it feasible?
Good..Good Plan. You can take 2 dat option if it will best help fix ur situation. I already filed for my SSN.

Feexo: Ojap, godG, streetmic, Graviton and Bigfrancis, thank you and God bless you all.

I plant to go with what Bigfrancis opined in his earlier post; I am going to try and know the cost of applying for a semester and schedule a payment plan of the minimum monthly amount payable, with a view to deferring after the 1st semester if I did not get funding- in the 2nd semester- until my second year. Consequently,I am sending an email to my school's payment department to ascertain the needfuls. I am also commencing the process of raising the funds NOW (There is nothing God can't do) Also, I plan on calling 2 Nigerians already in the school on phone to solicit their advice- Bigfrancis said networking is key...

On the other, if I am unable to raise the cost for 1st semester, Ojap, how is it possible for me to get: State ID "anyway/anyhow"?
Here is my email: sordicafis at yahoo dot com

Thank you guys!
#YoudontputGodfirstandfail
GBAM. i need d state id too ojap. u aff come n u must succeed feexo
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by streetMic(m): 11:56pm On Aug 12, 2014
Feexo: Ojap, Imperiouxx and everybody, I am in a very difficult situation and I need advice from everyone. I applied to a school as a graduate student in political science- I plan to lecture ultimately- and I got my visa. My mom was meant to sponsor me but she died in an auto crash last December. I had been speaking with a professor who indicated an interest in us working together on- International Peace-Keeping and Conflict Resolution in sub-Saharan Africa. I could not qualify for funding because I was 1.8 point short of the threshold. However, he said I would be considered for GA in my second semester if I maintain a GP of 3.0, and 'if' there were funds left. But, he was emphatic on my getting a GA in my second year. The school accepts a payment plan, and I am thinking of raising some money from some of my friends- I have less than $2k as I am typing this- to complete the first semester, and see how it pans out.
My mind is running wild... I have been staying with a female friend here in NY who is a citizen since Sunday. A friend who has a green card in Texas using a green-card said I should go to school, try and get my SSN and come to Texas. Another friend said I should just hop on the next plane and come over to Arizona, and work on getting my papers...

I am terrified of not going to school and falling out of status; my greatest ambition is getting a doctorate and lecturing

Should I send an email to the prof first?

Should I contact the appropriate person in school and ask for the least I can pay on a monthly basis for the first semester?

I don't want to stay in NY for too long. I don't wanna make a mistake and ruin the good relationship we have out of sheer desperation.

What do you guys think?
Boss b4 anyfin, go 2 d skol n see wah u can do wit wat u aff. we all aff d G-Card plan. bigfrancis aff said it all. 80 percent of pips wu come here dont get 2 find it dat easy but we must strife n succeed.
