The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially classified the use of “money bouquets” as a form of naira abuse, warning Nigerians that the practice now falls under punishable offences involving the mishandling of the country’s currency.

The apex bank made this clarification while reiterating its commitment to protecting the integrity and value of the naira. According to the CBN, arranging banknotes into bouquets — a trend commonly seen at weddings, birthdays, and social celebrations — constitutes abuse of the national currency.

The bank explained that the practice violates provisions of the CBN Act, which criminalises acts such as spraying, squeezing, mutilating, defacing, selling, or otherwise tampering with naira notes.

Under the law, offenders risk a minimum of six months imprisonment, a fine of not less than ₦50,000, or both penalties.

The CBN stressed that the naira is a national symbol that must be treated with dignity and respect, warning that cultural or celebratory practices do not excuse acts considered harmful to the currency.

In recent months, enforcement agencies have intensified actions against naira abuse across the country, particularly at social events where cash spraying and decorative use of banknotes have become widespread.

The central bank also urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report cases of naira abuse to the appropriate authorities, noting that protecting the currency is a collective responsibility.

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has dismissed widespread social media claims alleging that anti-snake venom was unavailable during the treatment of late fast-rising singer Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene, popularly known as Nanyah_music, who died after a snakebite.

The hospital clarified that the young musician passed away due to severe neurotoxic complications despite receiving immediate and appropriate medical care.

Ernest Collins Onyekachi, who hails from Anambara state, Ekwulobia, said he is good at electrical engineering. "I design circuit boards, build inverters, and also install solar," Ernest said in an exclusive chat with Strenuousblog.com.

The young engineer who just finished elementary (SSCE) said the rechargeable solar generator was developed with plastic pipe and some electrical components like Vera Board, Resistor, Capacitor, IC, Diode, Regulator, LED, Veritable Resistor, MOSFET, Heat Sink, Motor, Non Polarized Capacitor.

"I made the transformation myself using wood, a solar panel, and a 12 volt 18 amp battery," he explained.

He added, "My project produces 220 volts, which can power a building and also play music, radio, and has a remote control."

The management of the Abia State University in a letter announced resumption date for 2021/2022 Academic session.

The letter, which was issued on Monday 14, March 2022 by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, is titled "Resumption for the 2021/2022 Academic Session".

It's reads, "The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University. Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, on behalf of Management, has approved the resumption for First Semester, 2021/2022 Academic Session of the University on Saturday, 19th March, 2022.

Accordinghly, all new and returning students are advised to complete their registration formalities on or before Friday, 25th March, 2022, as Lectures will commence on Monday, 28th March, 2022.

Please, be informed that only bonafide students of the University, who have paid their fees and registered their courses, as appropriate, shall be allowed access to facilities in the University.

Students, their Parents and Guardians are to note and be properly guided.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has tested positive for COVID-19, the club said on its website.

Tuchel will now follow the necessary self-isolation protocols and hopes to join up with the team in Abu Dhabi later next week.

The team fly out for the Club World Cup following this afternoon's FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle.

The sentence of Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, has been postponed until July 11, 2022 by the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

After Hushpuppi's lawyers, lead by Louis Shapiro, filed a request for a postponement, Judge Otis D. Wright in Los Angeles approved the order.

"At the request of counsel, the sentencing is continued to July 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.," the court document said after the decision was taken on February 2.

During the time of the postponement, he is anticipated to remain in detention.

The Nigerian internet fraudster was supposed to be sentenced on February 14 for defrauding individuals from all over the world for millions of dollars, read (here)

Meanwhile, Abba Kyari, the Nigerian police commander, and several other Nigerian co-conspirators have either been indicted and are on the run or are currently facing prosecution in several courts for the multi-year international plot.

On Thursday morning, A 40-foot truck crushes traders and customers in the Ahia-udele market (water-side), Ogbor-hill, in Aba, the commercial city in Abia State.

More than five people were killed and property lost as scores were still trapped under the heavy duty truck.

As of the time of writing this, no government officials have yet taken over the scene of the accident.
