The Senate has confirmed seven nominations for National Commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission, as nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Following the examination of a report by the Senate Committee on INEC, the nominees were confirmed on Wednesday.



Mal. Mohammed Haruna (Niger – North-Central, National Commissioner); Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu (Delta – South-South, National Commissioner); Ukeagu Kenneth Nnamdi (Abia – South-East, National Commissioner); and Major General A. B. Alkali (Rtd) – Adamawa are among those who have been confirmed (North-East, National Commissioner).

Prof. Rhoda H. Gumus (Bayelsa – South-South, National Commissioner), Mr. Sam Olumekun (Ondo – South-West, National Commissioner), and Olaniyi Olaleye Ijalaye (Ondo – South-West, Resident Commissioner) were also present.

Senator Kabiru Gaya, the Chairman of the Committee, stated in his presentation that President Muhammadu Buhari made the request for confirmation in accordance with Section 153(1)(f) of the Constitution and Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999. (as amended).

Senator Kabiru Gaya, the Committee's Chairman, stated that President Muhammadu Buhari made the appointment in accordance with Section 153(1)(f) of the Constitution.

The nomination began in Taraba (2003–2008), Adamawa (2008–2015), and Gombe (2015–2021), according to Gaya of the Taraba Elders Forum.

He went on to say that the National Assembly would work with the electoral authority to achieve free and fair elections in 2023.

INEC also receives money from the National Assembly, therefore it has no reason not to carry out its mandate. As a result, Nigerians anticipate that INEC would perform admirably.

The Management of Abia State University, Uturu has banned the use of personal vehicles by students and flagrant display of wealth on campus.

This came after management of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State, barred students from driving on its campus last week, read here.

In a notice titled ABIA STATE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT BANS STUDENTS FROM DRIVING PERSONAL VEHICLES ON CAMPUS by the registrar Acho Elendu, Ph.D, Henceforth, only staff and accredited visitors would be allowed to drive their vehicles into the campus.

The notice also stated that, any student who violates this directive, which is in the interest of the University community. shall face severe disciplinary action.

400l students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in department of Biochemistry has issues a hilarious warning its staffs.

According to reports, this morning was found a notice in the department entrance with a pot and some other things in the pot.

It could be seen in the picture, where the students send a serious warning adding that their results should be attended to or face consequences.

The family of one Mr Chinedu Nwagwu are in serious confusion as their beloved is nowhere to found after morning duties from work place.

Mr Nwagwu is a man in his late 60s, a native of Umugo Village, Ugwunagbo LGA, Abia State.

He works as a Security Man with Rocks On Engineering Company/AMCON (Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria) Umuobasi-ukwu, Umugo in Ugwunagbo LGA, Abia State.

Close friends said he (Nwagwu) went to work on Wednesday 24th February 2021 (morning duty) and has not returned till date.

According to his colleague, Mr Chinedu spoke with him (the said colleague of his) by 7:28 am, asking him to remind him when it was 8:00 so that he can go and get break fast, and when it was 8:00 the man went to inform him and could not find him. He signed in by 5:47am and did not sign out.

According to the gate man, "he never crossed the gate. His bicycle is still there, his face cap, bag, even food flask all here.

"All his belongings that he went to work with are there Till now, no news about him. How can a man go missing inside such a fortified company? that has even mobile police officers as security."

Meanwhile, the matter has been reported to the police who are still investigating.

His family is shattered and broken and therefore call on well meaning Nigerians for help as they do NOT have a "voice".

Abia State government has issued new COVID 19 guidelines for the state.

In a Statement made available to strenuousblog on Wednesday by the BARR CHRIS EZEM Secretary to the State Government, "government is worried at the continued rise in the confirmed cases of Covid-19 and has continued to review measures already put in place to check the incidents.

The statement reads in parts...
"As a responsible Government, we would continue to evolve ways to protect Abians, and our environment with a view to preventing further community transmission.
"To this end, Government has resolved as that all Abians should make themselves available for covid-19 test.

"Government has set up Sample Collection Centres at the various Local Government Areas including Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Aba and Molecular Testing Laboratory at Amachara.

"All sample collections and tests are free of charge. All Abians are required to compulsorily wear their face masks at all times.

"Going forward, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Public Offices, Eateries, Hospitals and Banks are hereby directed to paste on all their entrances No Face Mask, No Entry notice/inscription.

"This is compulsory and failure to do so will attract sanction. In addition, such MDAs and public offices and places are required as a matter of necessity to provide all Covid-19 Protocols particularly running water and hand sanitizers within their offices.

"Government also directs all Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Institutions, Leadership of various Market Unions and Religious bodies, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) etc to embark on Advocacy/Sensitization Exercise on Covid-19, and religious worship must be in line with laid down Covid-19 protocols.

"The State work force will still operate with Grade Level 12 and above and those on essential services will continue to work Mondays through Fridays.

"It is absolutely expedient that all Abians must take advantage of the ongoing community testing to ascertain their Covid-19 status.

"Isolation Centres are in operation and all our Medical Protocol Team are in place. The State Covid-19 Enforcement Team will immediately begin routine visit to public places to ensure compliance.

"Government directs all and sundry to observe the protocol of social distancing, hand washing, use of sanitizers and to take personal responsibility in order to save their families and loved ones."

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has approved the resumption of all Public and Private Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools in Abia State for the continuation of the First Term of 2020/2021 on Monday January 11, 2021.

According to him, all School Heads and Proprietors are to ensure that all the COVID 19 Guidelines and Protocols already put in place are strictly maintained and observed.

They should also note that by this directive, the First Term, 2020/2021 will now officially end on Wednesday February 10, 2021.

Dr Kanelechi CK Nwangwa, Assoc. Prof. Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Education, Abia State who revealed this on 31st December, 2020, said, this is to ensure that the First Term runs a full course as expected.

Any School Proprietors that shortchange this schedule and decide to cut corners by running an abridged term will be appropriately sanctioned.

The duration of First Term 2020/2021 is from November 2, 2020 to February 10, 2021 with the Christmas break in-between.

Ukwuachi ancient Tree which has lived for almost 400 - 500 years was cut down on 18th Nov2020, but items found inside the tree has brought so many panic in the village.

My sister was just going through some photos online. She stopped abruptly when she saw the picture of a beautiful woman, happily married to an old man.



She was irked by the ladies caption. "I am blessed, and so excited to have married the best husband on earth".


My sis scoffed at it, saying, " how can she be so audacious to call this old man, the best husband on earth"?

The Nigerian Breweries Plc has made a donation of N20m (Twenty Million Naira) and other relief materials as support to the Abia State Government in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.


The donation was received by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the COVID-19 Inter-Ministerial Committee, Bar. Chris Ezem, on behalf of the government.


Tunde Ejemode, leader of the Nigerian Breweries Plc team while making the presentation said the money and other relief materials which include personal protective equipment, face masks and sanitizers are to help frontline workers in the State in the discharge of their duties in the face of the pandemic ravaging the world.



He said having been in Abia since 1957, it is imperative for NB Plc to give back to the society especially in such a critical time as this.


He urged Abians to continue to abide by the COVID-19 rules as issued by NCDC and the state government especially as it concerns the wearing of face masks and frequent washing of hands with soap and running water or use of alcohol based sanitizers to clean the hands.



Barr. Chris Ezem who was visibly elated by the donations appreciated Nigerian Breweries Plc for their kind gesture, noting that the gesture would go a long way in supporting Government's efforts at ensuring that the most vulnerable are taken care of especially at this time.



"What you have done will enrich our basket in terms of provision of palliatives to people across the state. We will ensure that it is evenly distributed to those who need it," he said.


He also thanked them for their sense of brotherhood in this precarious time and assured of state government's continued efforts at ensuring that the people got the needed help at this time.



Meanwhile, members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, Abia State Chapter, has made a donation of some hand sanitizers to the COVID-19 team in the state.


This is in a bid to contribute their own quota to bringing an end to the pandemic in Abia.



Chairman of the Association, Christopher Egwom while making the donation said they decided to produce the sanitizers as licensed to support the team that has been working tirelessly to help keep Abians safe from the virus.


He revealed that they have also made donations to NDLEA, and the Correctional Services.



Receiving the sanitizers, the SSG said he was touched by their spirit to support and be part of the fight against the pandemic and challenged them to rise up to the responsibility of finding a vaccine that will fight the virus.



He called for an improved knowledge in the area of research and synergy with researchers at different levels, noting that until the vaccine is found, the society might remain locked.



The SSG however, expressed belief that Nigerian pharmacists have what it takes to find a solution to the pandemic.


He said face masks will soon become a fashion trend and called on everyone to be an Ambassador against COVID-19 to save the society from imminent collapse.
