Well, selling off now is the right thing to do ONLY if the GMB govt will be responsible. If they spend the funds wisely, it's better to sell. Even if they don't sell, they'll still loot if they want to. Not selling doesnt stop that.

Wrong assumptions. Emefiele did not suggest it to GEJ because GEJ's government has a different spending plan. Buhari wants to build refineries and start social programs and all that. Buhari's manifesto is expensive, GEJ's own isn't. That's why.

GEJ didn't have a spending plan. He and the PDP had a looting plan. GMB plans to spend wisely by first recovering as much previous loots as possible, reducing corruption to the barest minimum and blocking leakages. Just watch and see how it will be done.

(1) when I say oil will soon finish, I don't mean tomorrow na. Check our reserves and compare to others. 30 years max, unless we start taking renewable seriously! Take that to the bank.

(2) The issue of selling is simple. If we assume that this govt is going to be responsible with the funds then selling some stake off is a wise choice. Why? Simple economic principle: The value of money of the day (MOTD). With the money we can invest in infrastructure that will drive major growth in non-oil sectors! Otherwise, we just keep borrowing and increase our debt profile.

(3) The CBN governor is not selling off everything. Just a part of it. The oil companies will still be paying huge taxes shey you know. And we will even increase the taxes.

(4) if you are worried about enriching the oil companies, forget it. Most of them are divesting anyway and it's mostly LOCAL companies that by these divested assets SO if the NNPC sells off, it'll still get to Local firms, thus providing jobs for Nigerians last last.

Thank you boss. I make bold to say that the subsidy claims are a sham and if they exist at all, the amount being paid is not as much as it is being bought, or NNPC is inflating the subsidy payment. It is not a coincidence that the amount being paid tripled in less than 3 years interval and the amount spent on our refineries for turnaround maintenance could easily build new ones. Now that the cost of crude oil has crashed, you'd be surprised that subsidy itself may not be that necessary any longer. You can begin to ask yourself Why it is dificult to build refineries? Once we build ours, the loopholes would be blocked.We have spent over 2 trilion naira in 2 years for subsidy to the detriment of our own economy.
last word, if subsidy exists at all, this is the best time to let it go and lets build our refineries to provide jobs, foreign exchange and help our power sector with it too.

Word! You've just spoken the truth. This should be obvious, but politics and vested interests have blinded people's eyes.

Oil price has gone down. . no subsidies anymore. . perfect time to announce that they are gone and pump price will react to market forces. This will encourage private sector partnership to build new refineries and stop importation. Before everything settles out, there mike be some price hikes (market forces) but as long as the people see the govt is sincere and transparent, they will cooperate and make sacrifices.

All in all, I can't wait for May 29th to come.

How can we be selling our JVs while other countries have almost full operations of their oil business, eg Saudi Aramco and petrobras, so we cant even manage the 60 % equity... this is crazy leaving our major source of revenue to devouring foreign coys.

We have had 60% for years. What have we done with it? Nothing! Politicians loot!

Now that we have a responsible and accountable govt, sell part of it and develop infrastructure. Saudi Aramco has RESERVES that we can't even dream of. There is a future. Our oil will soon finish and the oil price will never get to above $100 again except there is a MAJOR WAR in the ME. Major! best thing, sell off now!

This makes sense. Sell part of it off and raise up petroleum tax to make up for the reduction in revenue.

This provides cash to develop badly needed infrastructure (electricity, transportation etc) that will drive growth in non-oil sectors, without having to increase debt profile significantly.

Of course this means a lot of cash in the system and only a responsible govt will be able to handle it well. This is why the CBN governor did not suggest it to GEJ! They would have used it for elections. Good to see that he has more confidence in GMB!

APC never sidelined the SE, it's the igbos that have shown unwarranted hate towards the party. When APC was being formed, APGA was invited but they pulled out at the last minute, everything was done during the campaign to appease the igbos but they wouldn't have it. They even voted massively out of hate against Ngige despite the promise of the senate presidency. What more could have been done?

Igbos have an history of being unreasonably hateful and ungrateful, I don't see the hatred going away even if buhari transforms the SE into a paradise. IMHO, buhari and the APC do not need to appeal to the igbos in anyway, they should be the least prioritised if there's anything!

The one group that needs that appeasal is the south south. This is because they contribute immensely to the economy and do not practice the politics of bitterness like the igbos. It was understandable that they voted for their son in the just concluded election and even at that, they gave GMB more votes than the SE. Talk about crying more than the bereaved.

With the nigerdelta votes in the bag, the igbo votes becomes completely irrelevant as the worst that can happen is what we witnessed during the election.

Like every other region in nigeria, the SE will feel the wind of change but they should forget any special treatment or prioritised developmental projects. "Every region will be positively affected" that's the best you can get.
