NO BIG DEAL OWING KESHI - MAIGARI

Amidst reports on the failure of the Nigeria Football Federation to pay the monthly salaries of Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi, who is being owed for several months, President of the NFF, Aminu Maigari has explained that the situation in the Glass House was not peculiar to Keshi.

Speaking after receiving the Sports Administrator of the Year Award in Lagos, early in the week, Maigari noted that the financial situation in the Glass House was bleak. “Yes we are owing Keshi, so what?” he asked, adding, “but Keshi is not the only employee in the NFF who has not got his salary.
We have about 11 national teams and all have coaches. It is only fair that we treat them equally. My management staff have not received their salaries for over a year and nobody is making noise about it.”
He spoke further. “We have to be very careful the way we amplify this Keshi salary issue. If this is unduly amplified we will be downgrading our country,” Maigari said, pointing out that “apart from salary, Keshi doesn’t pay for anything.

“The house he lives in is paid for by NFF, the food he eats is NFF, his movement (transport) is NFF. So what are we talking about?”
It has been reported that the NFF’s indebtedness to all the national team coaches amounts to a whopping N77 million out of which N36 million makes up Keshi’s share.

Only days after resuming his office following FIFA intervention in Nigeria soccer activities, Aminu Maigari, the embattled President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been impeached by the Board for “financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration.” Maigari had returned to his post after a court order restraining him from acting as NFF President was vacated to enable Nigeria escape a permanent FIFA ban.

He was impeached today by a margin of eight votes to five among the 13-man Executive Committee as members reconvened to review Nigeria’s participation at the just-concluded World Cup in Brazil.

The Committee elevated the 1st Vice President, Chief Mike Okeke Umeh, to Acting President pending the composition of the new NFF Executive Committee in an election on August 26. Sensing trouble, in the course of the night, Maigari had made immense efforts to shift the Executive meeting, citing a ministerial directive. That claim was immediately dismissed by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Justice Joffa, and the ensuing meeting brought Maigari’s tumultuous reign at the helm of Nigerian football to an end.

A communique issued after the meeting said, “After thorough and exhaustive deliberations on the uncalled-for secrecy surrounding all financial dealings of the Federation, and failure to call meeting of the Executive Committee for the past eight ( months, during which so many weighty decisions on Nigeria football had been taken by a small cabal within the Board, the Executive Committee passed a vote of no confidence on the NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari.”

The committee commended FIFA and the Confederation of African Football for their keen interest in the development of Nigeria football and pledged that the country will continue to abide by the dictates of FIFA and CAF Statutes and the FIFA–approved NFF Statutes.

According to the communique, the meeting was attended by Maigari; Chief Mike Umeh (Vice President); Chief Emeka Inyama (Member); Mrs Dilichukwu Onyedinma (Member); Alh. Ahmad Muazu Kawu (Member); Chief Effiong Johnson (Member); Barr. Christopher Green (Member); Hon. Shehu Adamu (Member); Alh. Muazu Suleyman (Member); Mr. Ayodeji Tinubu (Member); Alh. Yusuf Ahmed ‘Fresh’ (Member); Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu (Member); Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande (Member); and Musa Amadu (Secretary).

SSS arrests Nigeria Football chairman, Maigari
State Security Services, SSS, agents on Tuesday arrested the Chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari, halting the federation’s meeting scheduled to take place in Abuja.

Mr. Maigari was arrested alongside Musa Amadu, the NFF Secretary-General, and Chris Green, a board member.
The NFF has been rocked by leadership crisis for months.

The Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Tammy Danagogo, was quoted Monday as saying that the tenure of Mr. Maigari had ended.

The embattled NFF chairman was first arrested in July as he returned from the World Cup in Brazil.

The arrest followed an order issued by a Plateau State court asking the NFF executives to step aside.

Mr. Maigari’s removal as the NFF chairman led to the suspension of Nigeria by world football governing body, FIFA.

The suspension was lifted after Mr. Maigari was reinstated but he was controversially impeached thereafter, accused of financial abuse and corruption.

Shortly after the impeachment July 31, Mr. Maigari was again whisked away by SSS operatives from the Serob Legacy Hotel, Abuja where the NFF held a congress.
He was again reinstated after the intervention of FIFA.

On a serious note, I have never followed Harrison Jalla's write ups but there are many things he revealed that I find shocking. Like NFF receiving a grant of $2.5m from FIFA in 2015 for football development.

It will be interesting to know why that U17 team got stranded that way.

Just because Amunike succeeded with the U17 then suddenly Maigari was a good administrator, I already said Amunike succeeded inspite of Maigari not because of him

Maybe you don't understand what spending from Federation account means. It follows due process. It goes through a series of checks before allocation and spending.

Even the release does not come in bulk and takes a series of signatures.

There is a file that will have history of application for money, the budget and the release.

What is the use of self funding if it translates to nothing.

The author made his point very clear. Aminu Maigari spent his funds through the Federation accounts. So it could he tracked. This Pinnick's own have funds that do not pass through the account which promotes corruption through diversion.

Funny way of saying Maigari is dependent on the federal government and Pinnick isn't, did you track Maigari's spendings or you just want to keep embarrassing yourself

The question is,

Is NFF under Pinnick accountable and transparent?

Is there proof of diversion of funds despite huge funding from sponsors?

With all the huge sponsorship he has been jumping up and down, is there a transparent breakdown of the funding.

These are the things I will watch out for in recent years. The author made his point.

If you want an account of their spendings you ask them for an audit not forming conspiracy theories, has any NFF board made a public accounting of funds or is it just because you hate Pinnick? By the way I like how you are jumping from incompetent to not accountable

Last week, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) entered into partnership with Telecommunications giant MTN and a leading brand in the Nigeria aviation industry, AIR PEACE, in Lagos.

The deals like several others run into several hundreds of millions of Naira for three years.

The NFF through President Amaju Pinnick also confirmed that other streams of sponsorship deals from different brands are on their way to the NFF coffers shortly.

Unfortunately, these deals and the expected deals lined up for the NFF will translate to nothing and will definitely add no value to Nigeria Football due to entrenched corruption, massive looting, lack of accountability and transparency.

The problem with Nigeria Football under Pinnick has nothing to do with sponsorship or funding, he has that in abundance.

Despite the huge sponsorship funds at the disposal of Pinnick, he also has this uncanny method of hanging all the hosting of the national team games on the State Governors particularly in the South South.

And these games in which huge state resources are committed by the Governors have no accounting records as funds provided don’t go through the NFF accounts.

Alhaji Aminu Maigari, former NFF President and Amaju Pinnick’s predecessor in office, was never privy to all these huge resources. He worked with limited funds from the federation account and won 12 trophies in four years without owing a backlog of bonuses and allowance to any category of the national teams.

Therefore, there is nothing really to celebrate about the so-called new NFF sponsorship deals.

They will translate to nothing because the funds will be diverted as usual to private pockets.

And all the sermonising about self-funding is balderdash.

Pinnick may not be the best, but he's done his bit in moving the needle forward.

He made Super Eagles a brand corporate Nigeria wanted to associate with, got all those endorsement, rectified the kit issue and got us Nike with a sensible contract and knew to demand for more when the branding issue was resolved.

I know we like to criticise as Nigerians but make we dey take am soffery.

That is what happens when you invest in your domestic football. North African countries represent us every year in the club world cup, have the best infrastructure and always throw in their hand to host matches anytime hosting in another country goes awry.

The Hammarby academy product arrived from Nigerian amateur side FC Sido in June 2020, but it didn’t take him time to get into the first team as he got his chance just three months later.

This season, he became an established player for the former Allsvenskan champions, making 29 league appearances out of a possible 30.



The 19-year-old did deliver, as he registered nine goals and five assists to help Hammarby to a fifth-place finish.

Amoo was part of the team that represented Nigeria at the 2019 U-17 World Cup in Brazil. He had three assists to his name in that competition.



Meanwhile, Amoo was not the only Nigerian that was recognised for their outstanding performance, as Norrkopings’ Samuel Adegbenro also clinched the best striker award after scoring 17 goals and assisting two in 30 appearances.
