EducationASUP: Kogi Poly Embark On Strike Over Non-payment Of Salaries by SUCCESSKEJI(op): 9:47am On Sep 10, 2017
The Academic staff Union of polytechnics ( ASUP) Kogi state polytechnic Lokoja chapter has asked its members to proceed on indefinite strike beginning from Monday 11th September, 2017 over non-payment of July salaries.

The chairman of ASUP, Gboloromi Samuel Sunday in a telephone chat with DAILY POST gave the directives on Saturday in Lokoja as a last resort to compel the government to heed to their plight.

He stated that ,although, the 21 days ultimatum earlier given to government to meet the agreed negotiated demands before suspending the strike was not over, the need for his members to collect their salaries cannot be swept under the carpet, stressing that the impending strike will only be aborted if only the government pays their salaries before Monday.

” Early in the year, Six state owned tertiary institutions embarked on indefinite strike, Kogi State Polytechnics was in the frontline to accede to the government request. We suspended the strike and resumed academic programmes even when some refused to bulged.

” Even when we reminded them of the agreement we had with them to suspend the strike was not kept, we still continue with our work, until when things got to a head that we recently issued 21 days ultimatum to resume the strike or they should hasten the process to meet the agreement.

” We were surprised , when July salaries were being paid to our colleagues in other tertiary institutions across the state ,our members were being left out. When we enquire, we were told that the state has no money to pay us, even when all the civil servants in the state have collected theirs.

” As I'm talking , my members have exhausted all sources they used to borrow money. Right now, our members are starving, we don't have transport money to come to work, no tools to work with even primary things like stencils are not provided... EducationASUU Commence Indefinite Strike by SUCCESSKEJI(op): 9:20am On Aug 14, 2017
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite strike across the nation, beginning Sunday August 13th, 2017.

According to ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, the lecturers took the decision to declare the strike after deliberations at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja during the weekend.

In a document titled: “Strike Bulletin No.1”, which was signed and issued by Ogunyemi, ASUU said the strike action was to be a total, comprehensive and indefinite action whereby no form of academic activities including teaching, attendance of any meeting, conduct and supervision of any examination at any level, supervision of project or thesis at any level should take place at any of the nation’s universities.

The union recalled that it had to embark on a six month strike between July and December 2013 and the strike was suspended when government signed an MoU with the union.

“Of all the items contained in the MoU, only the N200b out of a total of N1.3tr of the Public Universities Revitalization (Needs Assessment) fund was released.

“The union also embarked on a one week warning strike in November 2016 to press for the implementation of 2013 MoU. However government did not implement the understanding reach between the union and Federal Government base on the intervention by the leadership of Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The union has also met with the 2009 Agreement Implementation Monitoring Committee, IMC, and had written several letters press releases and communiques on the outstanding issues to no avail.... Continue reading http://www.newsresidence.tk/2017/08/ASUU-commence-indefinite-strike.html

RomanceProstitutes Offer Free Sex At Thief’s Funeral by SUCCESSKEJI(op): 3:37pm On Aug 04, 2017
Commercial sex workers in Mbare district in Zimbabwe have declared a two-day sex galore at the funeral of a notorious thief identified as Masiyas Mesiyas.

According to Harare Metro newspaper, the prostitutes treated mourners at the funeral to free sex in honour of the deceased whom they described as a sex maniac.

Residents say the late Mesiyas, who succumbed to tuberculosis, loved sex and was popular among casual sex workers in the district.

One of the prostitutes who identified herself as Busisiwe said: “Mesiyas was a well-known thief but one of the things we have known him for as sex workers in Mbare is that he loved sex and was our regular client.

“We had no money to contribute in planning the funeral arrangements, but we offered what we know best and male mourners who came for the funeral could get sex for free,”

Mesiyas’ family spokesperson, Brandon Chikukwa, confirmed that mourners at the funeral were being treated to free sex by hookers.

He said: “I have never seen anything like what I witnessed when my uncle died.... Continue reading http://www.newsresidence.tk/2017/08/prostitutes-offer-free-sex-at-thiefs-funeral.html

BusinessAMCON, EFCC Set To Storm Banks by SUCCESSKEJI(op): 9:41am On Aug 04, 2017
Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are set to storm banks whose officials violated internal processes that led to the huge non-performing loans in AMCON’s portfolio.

AMCON Managing Director, Ahmed Kuru, and the EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, jointly made the announcement yesterday in Abuja.

AMCON had acquired debts from 22 banks worth N3.7 trillion and provided financial accommodation to 10 banks of about N2.2 trillion.

But Kuru said that despite AMCON’s recovery efforts, the corporation still held unresolved loans in excess of N4.6 trillion representing about 75% of the total national budget.

His words: “most of the obligors may not have acted alone in their unwillingness to repay, but may involve the connivance of some of the bank officials whose motive was to cheat the banks ab-initio.

“In the appropriate circumstances, these bankers would also be called upon to account for their roles in granting these questionable facilities.”

Speaking, Magu noted that both agencies had “very tough, overwhelming and challenging” tasks.... Continue reading http://www.newsresidence.tk/2017/08/amcon-efcc-set-to-storm-banks.html

EducationWorkers Restless Over Coming Of Maustech And Ogun State Poly by SUCCESSKEJI(op): 9:25am On Jul 28, 2017
In September, two new institutions will take off in Ogun State. The Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) will take off in Abeokuta; the Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia. The birth of these institutions is giving workers of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, who have a stake in both the jitters report KOFOWOROLA BELO-OSAGIE and ERNEST NWOKOLO.

Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH), Abeokuta, a product of the recent upgrade of Ogun State’s premier polytechnic, the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), is yet to commence operation, but a crisis appears to have started.

Even at conception by Governor Ibikunle Amosun, many questioned the propriety of having another state university when the existing two are reeling under the weight of underfunding and inadequate staffing.

Critics anchored their misgivings on an earlier decision of Amosun, who shortly after his election as governor for the first term in 2011, moved to scrap the thriving Tai Solarin University of Education (TSAUED), Ijagun, and fused it into the Education faculty of the troubled Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye.

The pioneer education varsity in the state – nay the country – was established in January, 2005 by the former Governor Gbenga Daniel-led administration, ostensibly to train high-level manpower – teachers and school administrators, among others.

Amosun almost succeeded in his move to merge TASUED with the OOU. His argument was that the state’s finances were too lean to accommodate proliferation of state-owned tertiary institutions and that the university had also veered from its core mandate of offering teaching or education-based programmes.

However, following stout opposition and criticisms by the academic staff of the university, students and members of the public particularly, the Ijebu people who host the instituion, the Governor dropped the idea.

So, when on March 13, Amosun, who had hitherto canvassed paucity of fund as the overriding reason for scraping TASUED, signed a law changing the 38-year old Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) coupled with its subsequent approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) earlier this month, stakeholders were surprised.... continue reading http://www.newsresidence.tk/2017/07/workers-restless-over-coming-of-MAUSTECH-and-OGUN-STATE-POLY.html

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 30-year-old Joshua Oyapidan, who allegedly stabbed his son, Favour, and left him inside the bush to die.

Oyapidan stabbed his 11-year-old son and abandoned him in the bush on Sunday, before escaping from the scene. The incident happened near the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate, along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.

The father was reported to have lured the boy into the bush and stabbed him in several parts of the body, including the neck and stomach. A good Samaritan, who was passing by, was said to have rescued the boy after he crawled out of the bush.

Education214,952 May/june 2017 Waec Results Withhold by SUCCESSKEJI(op): 10:12am On Jul 18, 2017
Precisely 59.22 per cent of 1,559,192 candidates, who wrote the May/June 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) made credits in five subjects, including english and mathematics, it was learnt yesterday.

Announcing the results at the WAEC headquarters in Lagos, the Head of National Office (HNO), Mr. Olu Adenipekun said the performance was a significant improvement to last year’s 52.97 per cent and 2015, which was 38.68 per cent.

“There has been a significant improvement and it is our hope that this will continue and not just be a fluke. We hope schools will take advantage of this to prepare students better for the examination,” he said.

The HNO said the council would conduct examinations for private candidates twice in a year from next year.

Adenipekun, however, said two categories of candidates will have to wait for some of their results either to be released or cancelled.

Results of candidates in the first group (95,734) are still being processed because of errors traceable to them and 214,952 others are investigated for examination malpractices.

“The results of 214,952 candidates, representing 13.79 per cent of the total candidature for the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.... read more http://www.newsresidence.tk/2017/07/214952-mayjune-2017-waec-results-withhold.html

Workers at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics have embarked on an indefinite strike over alleged sack of their members to pave way for another set of workers who will work in the upgraded University.

They claimed that the Chairman of the transition committee of the institution, Peter Okebukola told them to resign their appointments and reapply to the new University.

Kazeem Olowe reports that the workers were full of joy when the nomenclature of their place of work
changed from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology but it appears that their joy may turn to sorrow with news that about 250 of them may lose their jobs.
