Iron dome is a short range interceptor, and it is not designed to intercept a ballistic missile instead the Arrow, David Sling, THAAD and Patriot systems are what the IDF uses for their long range defenses.

Short answer: No, Iron dome system did not fail. Iran send ballistic missiles and is not designed for that.

The way Israel missile defense works is that it prioritises interception of missiles that will hit critical infrastructure.

If the iron dome, sling or arrow system observes that the incoming missile will hit an open field or sea then it'd ignore it and focus on those about to hit critical items.

This is why lots of missiles hit but didn't cause casualties. Israel's response will likely be very heavy

Arrow or David sling are not capable of destroying an hypersonic reentry, they won’t even see it until it’s too late to send its interceptors.

That being said, the US had informed Israel ahead of Irans launch that Iran is moving to attack.

That being said, you should be expect Israel to acknowledge that its airbases was destroyed. In April, they lost a couple of F-16s and F-35s. Let’s give it a few days, real truth will come out.

No one can intercept Ballistic missiles unless you have a platform in space to hit the missiles during their space glide phase where they move much slower. Hence why the US now has a Space Force army.

Ballistic missiles can be intercepted! Not sure where you heard that wrong assumption from. However, an hypersonic ballistic is what can be difficult to intercept because of the speak of its reentry.

A ballistic missile can be intercepted in many ways today. And the US does not need space force to intercept a normal ballistic missile.

Their reentry is not as fast as the hypersonic version.

Their trajectory is easily predicted and can be intercepted.

The US THAAD and Patriot are specifically designed to stop ballistic missiles, same as some Air to Air missiles can be carried by jets to hit a ballistic missile.

That being said, the Iranians used hypersonic ones in this attack that made us much much difficult to stop, cos my the radar spot them at reentry, it’s too late cos of their speed. If you don’t stop hypersonic before its reentry then stopping them is nothing but luck.
