OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY AMB. IBRAHIM GAMBARI CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE PRESIDENT FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA. CC: President Muhammadu Buhari Professor Yemi Osinbajo Senator. Ahmed Lawan Senate President The Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Senator. Abdullahi Adamu The Chairman APC caretaker committee. APPEAL FOR SPEEDY APPROVAL OF THE PAYMENT OF YOUTHS/FARMERS INVOLVED IN THE AGRICULTURE FOR FOOD AND JOBS PLAN (AFJP) PROGRAMME: Your Excellency, unbehalf of the over 30,000 youth workforce and the over 5million registered AFJP farmers I would like to specially appreciate your deligence in ensuring a thorough check and exercising oversight over the AFJP programme. your have truly demonstrated great passion and an unusual commitment in sustaining Mr. President's anti-corruption agenda and upholding his vision of a rapid and sustainable development in the Agricultural sector of the economy. Your effort is highly commendable and worthy of emulation by all within the coffers of power and indeed Nigerian youths. The President's recent unveiling of the largest rice pyramid in world history and the country's leadership position as the largest rice producer in Africa among other notable achievement are all tastement of the diligent effort of your likes in eradicating the systematic corruption that affect our growth as a people. Your Excellency I'll like to go straight to the salient points that nacessitated this letter. We were reliably informed of the army of saboteurs who claimed there was no Farmers Enumeration under the AFJP programme and the subsequent investigation that ensued by the EFCC and other agencies all at your behest. As one of the foot soldier of that endeavor alongside other 30,000 Nigerian youths work force enlisted and the over 11,000 active participant I hereby testify that Nigerian youth have gone under the rain and sun, traveled to unimaginable distant villages and creeks to Enumerate and collate the Geo spatial information and details of Farmers whom the programme promised improved seedlings and fertilizers as well as subsidies and 0% interest loans. In the process of undertaking this critical national assingment some sustained injuries from snake bites, motor accident, boat accident and some were infected with malaria/typhoid fever, fatique and others hospitalised due to the tedious demands of the job. This is all in an efforts to serve in a programme that we believe would rapidly yield improve agricultural productivity and contribute to the livelihood of millions of smallholder farmers in our communities. In one instance we heard of one of our colleque who had to pay the supreme price when unknown to him he traveled to serve his father's land in a bandit enclave. (Subject to verification) You Excellency Sir, The AFJP design and plan which was conceived by the Preident's special Adviser on Agriculture Dr. Andrew Kwasari in technical collaboration with fmardpace and the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has the potential to be a game changer in rural Agri-financing and development, it would practically lift millions of Nigerians from the poverty line if sustained. Your Excellency Sir, our prayers is for you to use your good office as a matter of urgency to speedly give approval for : 1. The Immediate payment of the entitlement of Nigerian youths who worked as Enumerators under the AFJP programme. 2. Pay subsidies to small holder farmers who were sidelined during the last exercise. 3. Pay the promised Agri-input loans to registered farmers to improve Agricultural productivity. Thank you God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Thomas Yahaya Avong Keffi Local Government Nasarawa state. Nigeria. 07037744500 avongyahaya@gmail.co |

OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari CC: Professor Yemi Osinbajo Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Senator. Abdullahi Adamu Femi Adeshina Dr. Andrew Kwasari Abubakar Malami Injustice, Corruption, Sabotage in the Agriculture for Food and Job Programme (AFJP) 30,000 Nigeria Youth involved in the Agriculture for Food and Jobs Plan (AFJP) denied payment by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and rural development (FMARD). Over 3 Million Farmers denied access to the promised Agri-input loans and others denied subsidies. Youth denied promised employment by FMARD as Agric Extension officers to boost Nationwide Agricultural productivity. Your Excellency Sir, your passion and vision for a rapid and sustainable development in the Agricultural sector of the economy is worthy of commendation and admiration. Your recent unveiling of the largest rice pyramid in world history and the country's leadership position as largest rice producer in Africa among other notable achievements cannot go unnoticed. Your administration would go down in history as one that championed an uncommon Agricultural revolution. Worthy of note is your infrastructural development drive that is rolling out high quality roads and bridges nationwide, modern railway infrastructure in critical route and clear cut policies geared towards revamping our delapidated and neglected national infrastructures. Time will not permit me to go into details of your developmental stride in our national life as this is not the purpose of this letter. You'll be remembered surely by Nigerian youths as a visionary with few words but massive action. However, it is with intense disappointment that I express the pains of over 30,000 Nigerian youths who out of sheer patriotism and a desire to make a decent living got enlisted in the Agriculture for food and job Plan AFJP to Enumerate and register small holder farmers who would be issued improved seeds and fertilizer subsidies as well as 0% interest loans in the 36 states of the federation, the FCT and the 774 local government areas as part of the Economic sustainability Plan ESP headed by the Esteemed Vice president of the Federal republic of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osinbanjo. You Excellency Sir, The AFJP design and plan which was conceived by your special Adviser on Agriculture Dr. Andrew Kwasari in technical collaboration with fmardpace would have been a game changer in rural Agri-financing and development it could have received global commendation as a programme that has visibly and practically lifted millions of Nigerians from poverty but the hope of millions of farmers registered as well as the youth who worked as Enumerators to register and get the geo-spatial information of these farmers were dashed. Your Excellency, it is quite Unfortunate that the Permanent secretary and Ministers of Agriculture (former and incumbent) have subjected the payment of 30,000 Nigerian youth involved in the AFJP programme to bureaucratic frustration and humiliation. Nigerian youths who were zealous and enthusiastic in revamping our Agricultural sector had their spirit broken by unending promises of payment for work done for over 2years now . Millions of registered Farmers are denied access to the promised Agri-input loans and others denied subsidies. The promise of employment of youth as Agric Extension officers to boost Nationwide Agricultural productivity has gone down the drain. Your Excellency Sir our prayers is for you to use your good office and prevail on the Ministry of Agriculture to as a matter of urgency: 1. Immediately effect the payment and entitlement of Nigerian youth who worked as Enumerators under the AFJP programme. 2. Pay subsidies to small holder farmers who were sidelined during the last exercise. 3. Pay the promised Agri-input loans to registered Farmers. 4. Employ Enumerators as Agric Extention officer to improve Agricultural productivity. Thank you God bless the Federal republic of Nigeria. Thomas Yahaya Avong Keffi Local Government Nasarawa state. Soromtochi Chisolum Okeke Earlier this year, I was in Port Harcourt for work and I had to get to Market Square on Peter Odili Road for some work materials. Finished buying and stepped out to get a taxi and this guy walked up to me with a smile on his face....Greeted "hello" and I responded. Then he said to me, "go to xhdyz hotel on xyz road and wait for me, I'll meet you there soon". Then he went ahead to give details of the place, I'm not familiar with Port Harcourt roads but I'm pretty sure he mentioned Rumuola area. For a moment, I was too shocked for words so I stared in unbelief, disgust or maybe his juju caught me for a few minutes. Then I turned in anger and said, "are you mad" then proceeded to say a lot of other things to me. I noticed that each time people passed us, he'd say "are you talking to your husband like that, is that the right way to talk to your husband". So people looked at me cray cray. The funny thing is, I couldn't leave..I was cussing him out yet I couldn't feel my legs let alone moved them. He kept throwing the husband line and telling me to move to that hotel and a whole other stuff, he also had a bottle of water he occasionally drank from...I didn't make anything of it. People didn't get close because they thought it was family issues and on my own part, I was too dazed to speak. I don't know what happened but somehow I found my voice and scolded him even more and this time louder. Then I turned to the security man around and asked if he knew the guy, I explained what happened to him and he said the guy told him I was his wife. I left the goat there and walked to the road, he stood and stared for some minutes. I boarded a taxi going my way. Immediately I got in, I saw this same guy seated in the taxi or he joined after I boarded ,I can't remember now. But he kept looking at me, drank from the bottle and then started talking again. When the driver looked back, he tried to play the husband card again. But I didn't let him speak. This time, I was really angry so I yelled at him so much while explaining to the driver...The driver swerved to the side of the road and asked him to get out....he did and the driver moved. Told me to go thank my God because the man is either a serial rapist, murderer or ritualist. Here's the shocker, during that incident, I remembered the name of the hotel he told me to go to while the incident lasted, but after the driver chased him out, I explained everything to the driver but I could no longer remember the name of the hotel....I only remembered Rumuola. The driver said I don't even understand what God did for me. Yesterday evening, I had a similar experience again in the same port Harcourt but this time around King's Assembly. I stayed somewhere close to King's Assembly so after I return from work, I'd take a stroll. Yesterday, I had a meeting around Big Treat and after the meeting, I left for my accommodation and just as I made to cross the road, this guy came from nowhere and put one of his hands on my neck calling me something "sweetheart". With a scowl on my face, u shouted "who's your sweetheart, shey you're mad". He called me that again. Something just told me to run back to where I was coming from and I did. I ran back to those guys selling stuff around there and pretended like I was buying fruits. I explained everything to a female hawker around there and she told me to stand there till the guy left and she said "even if na tomorrow" I stood for some minutes and this guy didn't leave....he stood on that road stuff waiting for his mother not me. It wasn't long, a Camry came with two guys in the owner's seat, he jumped from that stuff, crossed the road quickly and got into the car and they zoomed off. I like to believe this is the new way of kidnapping, scam, ritual or whatever they're doing. . Once I was riding with a client and this SUV was infront of us, a woman was squeezed between two men and one of them had a baby who was crying uncontrollably...it was obvious that all wasn't well because why wasn't she feeding the wailing baby and she had fear written all over her face. The driver had a small white sheet betweeb his lips. One look at them and my client said, "Kai, they don kidnap this woman". And he was like he'd call the attention of the police when we reach the checkpoint! Whosai! They got to a point and drove into another street. They have a new style now and they probably operate with something on their tongues to weaken their victim's defense. Please be safe. I have left your city for you people, abeg! Copied |
