Romance / The Thing With Bride Acquisition Aka Bride Price by SunehriLasgidi(f): 9:46pm On Sep 08, 2016
Bride Price is a sum of money or quantity of goods given to a bride’s family by that of the groom in some tribal societies.

“In anthropological literature, bride price has often been explained in market terms, as payment made in exchange for the bride’s family’s loss of her labor and fertility within her kin group."

“We saw a beautiful flower in your garden and we are here to pluck it,” the groom’s family says on getting to the bride’s home.

Such flower!

Something about “Bride Price” is unsettling. In paying for a bride, you have you reduced her to an object or property. The moment you buy something/someone, you OWN it and can do whatever you like with it.

Different people come up with different reasons why men should pay for brides.

It’s to test the financial strength of a man.

To know if he can take care of their daughter.

These are a few of the questionable reasons.

Gals, is it your destiny to be someone’s property? Most women’s names were written out of history because they were only “Daughter of –”, “Wife of-”.

A modern day African feminist, REGARDLESS OF SEX, should be opposed to this “practice” as it is against gender equality.

If women want to be seen as equal partners in marriage, they have to refuse to be bought. BEHAVE AS AN EQUAL TO BE TREATED AS AN EQUAL.

If he is paying a bride price, what is she giving in return? Self-autonomy? Freedom? Rights? Virginity? What?

Who did Jesus marry?

It's not important.

This brings about the question: “Why does the society force people, especially women, into matrimony?” Why does it single-shame people?”

Who is society? Society is simply you and I being judgmental! We need a consensus. It’s time we stopped single-shaming people.

Most people don’t care about your MARRIED LIFE. They simply want Owambe aso-ebi and party jollof. “When are we going to tie gele?” they inquire.

Some people have gotten into this institution and in the process, they lost themselves. Some never achieved their dreams.

The most bitter people are the ones that feel cheated out of their dreams. Everyone wants to achieve the best expressions of themselves.

Marriage doesn’t guarantee companionship. These two are different notions.

Romance / Y'all Chill! Marriage Is Not A Do Or Die Affair! by SunehriLasgidi(f): 1:58pm On Aug 27, 2016
“The happiest day in a girl’s life is her wedding day,” they said, without considering that we all want different things. Different people, different aspirations. This message has sunk into our psyches and this inadvertently caused many of us to feel matrimony and motherhood are the determinants of femininity. We feel they define our worth.

Most messages we’ve heard from the cradle prepares us for matrimony: “Is this how you’ll behave when you get married?”

“You are opinionated. Who will marry you?”

“You know too much. No man wants that.”

“You’re too tall… let’s hope you’ll find a tall man.”

One of the functions of social institutions is to create social uniformity to avoid conflict. It doesn’t care if we are different people.

In the real sense, not all of us were fashioned for matrimony for a couple of reasons.http://www.thefemmemedia.com/editorial/conventional-marriage-not-meant-everyone/

If marriage were that important, Jesus would have gotten married right? I mean, he allowed himself to be baptised because it was important.
In Matthew 19: 11-12, he gave reasons why matrimony was not meant for everyone. Even Apostle Paul didn’t get married. See? Not so important.

Op, follow what the laws of the land says, if you want to practise homosexual, you better travel abroad where is accepted, forget about hypocrisy or you will be jailed trying.

So, you don't have anal or MouthAction?

If you are guilty of deviant sexual acts, you are culpable. So, rest.

The point of this post is that we don't need to be angry at gay people since we indulge in sodomy.

We need to be angry at institutionalised corruption. You know what that means, right? Good.

Advocating that we focus on important things like channeling the anger we feel towards gay people to fight corruption and hypocrisy.

Advocating that we are all sinners one way or the other.

Advocating that everyone deserves to have his/her human rights.

Advocating that religion should not deprive us of our human rights.

Subsection 2 talks about bestiality. But, that is not the issue for now.

Subsection 3 says: “permits a male person to have carnal knowledge of HIM OR HER…”

I guess heterosexual relationships are not spared. After all, sodomy includes anal or MouthAction.

Bigots, can you say you haven’t engaged in sexual deviant acts?

Lie to yourself; not to God.

I read hoe stories; I see things and I’m thrown off balance at how pervy some Nigerians are.

If you have anal or MouthAction or have participated in other deviant acts yet, gay-bash people, kindly accept this certificate of hypocrisy and let your shame hang around your neck until you drop the sanctimonious act!

By the way, here is the definition of Sodomy

Deviant sexual acts are against the order of nature.

you’re guilty of deviant sexual acts if you:

1. Are into BDSM (Kinky Fuckery).
2. Have sex with children.
3. Watch porn.
4. Have sex with animals.
5. Have anal sex with a young boy.
6. Rape people.

I was wondering why only women should cover up.

It boils down to us being seen as sexual objects.

Haven't you wondered why it seems as though everything is all about our worth as humans is being tied to our chastity?

Why do you think men easily call us "sluts" despite not having anything sexual with them?

It's easy. What's good for boys is good for girls.

If we are going to cover up, boys MUST cover up. 50-50, no cheating.

If we weren't being sexualised, we wouldn't have been told to cover up.

Boys are sexy and, like us, they should cover up!

“In the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another…”- Roman 1: 27.

What is the natural use of women?

Think of it: If women weren’t seen as sexual objects, no one would ask us to cover up.

Men wittingly or unwittingly dress provocatively, too. You exude a raw sensuality that draws us in. Yet, no one tells you to cover up.

You look divine and dapper in those well-tailored suits that show off their broad shoulders, which tapper down into narrow waists and well-rounded derrieres.

How about those men with well-sculpted a la Beckham derriere? To make matters worse, you wear well-fitted pants and that ass screams out to us, if you want it, come get it… Some of us women imagine how it would feel squeezing it in that moment of frenzied passion. Heck, we even want to smack it.

But, we don’t.

And when you wear muscle shirts… Mon Dieu! Those biceps call out to us. Some of us are tempted to kiss our way up those muscles and stop at the crook of their necks or napes; sometimes we might want to take it few inches higher and nibble at their earlobes, but we don’t.

It dies in our fantasies.

Don’t take off your shirts! Your abs are sexy. Your well-defined chest; pecs are divine. Some women imagine kissing and tasting every inch of you from your neck, past your chest, and down your abs to …

“Masturbation is a serious sin. Let’s pray.”

Julian stared in amusement as Pastor violently bobbed his head in prayer. Up, down. Up, down. Something about this-his head movement- bordered on the erotic thereby causing Julian’s mind to stray to salacious thoughts. He imagined lying on the cold floor as some faceless girl gave him MouthAction and made a mental note to come to that thought in the privacy of his bedroom. That he still had sexual fantasies despite the counselling was quite comical. Did his mother actually believe Pastor would counsel his adolescent mind out of masturbation?

Initially, Pastor was reluctant to grant them an audience. But, as she mentioned masturbation, his interest was piqued. He promised to see her son after his meeting with two church elders.

Mother and son waited as time trudged by.

You should have seen how she beamed ...

Almost with a vengeance, his sweaty body grinds against mine. At this point, I ask myself what in perdition I’m doing here.

I fake a moan.

I sigh.

Another moan.

He mutters something gibberish about how good he’s fucking me.

I fake another moan.

He grunts.

As if he sees my thoughts, he chases them and catches them the moment he grunts in my ear. Quickly, I am aware that he is there. Guilt makes me gasp.

My hands rove the expanse of his back. He thinks this is a cue to roughly ram his length into me. The pain, which spreads through my system, makes me moan.

God! He makes a guttural sound. Against my wish, like I am a puppet, my fingertips caress his head thereby eliciting another grunt from him.

If you are compelled to go to church for whatever reason, if you find the sermons boring or annoying, you can liken the feeling you get from going the church or mosque to a woman who is having sex with a man she doesn’t feel anything for.

For me, I feel like I am with a man I don’t like. I lie there on my back watching the three white, wide blades of the fan chasing themselves in a futile attempt to catch up with themselves. Willingly, I allow myself to be distracted by them.
Romance / Rape: The Way You Didn't Think About It. by SunehriLasgidi(f): 9:23pm On Jul 20, 2016
First things first: Some people don't understand what rape is:

Rape is simply "non-consensual sex".

If the other part is not interested and you make them have sex, that counts as rape.

Rape is non-consensual sex.

This means one of the parties is not consenting/agreeing /willing to have sex at that point in time.

Rape involves any type of sexual penetration against a person without their consent.

At this point, it should be noted that rape is a crime perpetuated by individuals regardless of their genders. Anyone can rape anyone. For an act to be reported as rape, there must be:
1.An Unwilling Partner
2.Sexual Intercourse

Rape is a criminal act carried out through different means:
1.Physical Coercion: Forcing sexual intercourse on the other party.
2.Physical Incapacitation: This entails an individual being disabled in order for a sexual act to be carried out on them.
3.Emotional Blackmail:

Romance / On Beauty Standards: Sister, You'll Never Be Perfect by SunehriLasgidi(f): 7:57pm On Jul 20, 2016
Sister, you will not kill yourself. Place your hands on your chest and say: “I will not kill myself.”

You see, we have found ourselves in a messed up society. Yes, messed up! There are many standards it judges us, gals, by. One of the most important of “these expectations” is the Beauty Standard.

Haven’t you noticed that the Beauty Standard is illogical? If you think it’s logical, look at Barbie dolls. Can a human being look like that without “external salvation”? Be realistic and honest.

You see, sister, we cannot have “perfect” bodies. It’s high time we gave up on the quest to be perfect lest we die trying. There’s “die” in “diet”. (Just kidding).

The Beauty Standard makes you forget the good things about your body. You forget you have a well-formed derriere because you are focusing on some other “fault”. As you ruminate on your height issues, you neglect the fact that you have beautiful eyes. Your Tina Turner kinda legs means nothing as you focus on tummy fats and love handles.

Literature / Short Story|| Striker by SunehriLasgidi(f): 7:48pm On Jul 20, 2016
Aisha’s heartbeat accelerated at the first tintinnabulation of the bell. Class over, she beamed as she closed her red notebook. In one clumsy motion, she swung her rucksack on her shoulder as she sprinted out of the classroom.

The young girl scurried to the dining hall faster than a rat avoiding a cat. She had to secure a table at the dining hall. You see, our hero couldn’t wait to return to the dining hall for lunch while eating breakfast. Her grumbling tummy, coupled with the boring lessons, made the past six hours an awful torture. I know you imagine Aisha as a bulky mass of a girl rolling around the school premises like an exercise ball. Well, she was willowy and you’d imagine her snapping into two were there to be a gust of heavy wind to sweep the school. The thing is that her metabolism was just… too fast.

Her dreams of securing a table at the dining hall was crushed to dust as she saw the hall was almost filled with students. But, there was hope! One of the tables at the far end of the big hall had three people. She trotted towards it with alacrity. To her amazement and disappointment, she met her seatmate, Miriam, and her bestie, Zuri, already seated at the table. How did they get here? Aisha was flustered. Did they fly? When did they start coming for food? Something was definitely amiss.

Although she was late to the table, she called dibs that she was sharing the food by blurting, “I’m serving.” The thing is that the first person at the table had the honour of rationing the food amongst the other students at the table. She had to take her chance. Miriam slowly looked away from Zuri to stare at her. That look made Aisha feel small. She almost died of shame. It seemed she’d interrupted an important conversation between the two. Another girl, who was wearing a red wristwatch at the table, gave her a bored look and dismissed her with a sneer. Aisha scoffed at her. Seemingly, no one was interested in serving that afternoon. Aisha felt lucky. They were eating rice and beans with chicken stew- her favourite meal; she was going to be in charge of the table. More food for me, she gleamed like the Cheshire cat as she danced in her head.

Romance / Re: On Feminism: Patriarchy-peddled Female Privileges by SunehriLasgidi(f): 6:48am On Jul 09, 2016
Vendoor:
Why I my the only lady that seen not to appreciate this equality struggle by women all over.

We were made differently. Woman have unique role to play and we should try to perfect it. Our influences are enormous as well as endowed with natural admirations and special talents.

Why try to compete with a man embarassed

ANSWER:

Yes, our BODIES were made differently; our minds were not. Because everyone of us has gifts, talents, potentials, temperaments, traits. Our talents and traits and temperaments don't look at our genitals before they come to us, right?

Feminism is equal rights for men and women.

Feminism means equal opportunities for men and women.

Feminism means that a woman should be able to own properties in her name.

Owning properties in her name would mean that if her husband dies, she would have the properties in her name therefore, not suffer as it's seen in most cases.

Feminism means girls should be able to go to school.

Feminism means everyone should aspire to whatever they want.

Feminism is equal rights.

Feminism means "what is good for the goose is good for the gander".

Feminism means if you are teaching a girl to be expressive, you should teach a boy to be expressive without telling him that being expressive makes him weak.

Feminism means that men who suffer from abuse should speak up without feeling like they are less than men.

Feminism means that we should teach boys they are not entitled to a girl's body.

Feminism means that we should teach girls that they are not entitled to a boy's money.

Feminism means SEE A PERSON AS A PERSON BEFORE LOOKING AT THEM THROUGH THE LENSES OF THEIR GENDER.

Jesus was a feminist: he supported equal rights for women. It wasn't a coincidence that he appeared to Mary Magdalene first.

Jesus had"traditional feminine" traits. He was meek, gentle, mild, humble... It didn't stop his role.

Feminism means marriage and motherhood are not the determinants of femininity.

Feminism means EQUAL RIGHTS FOR MEN AND WOMEN. NOT EQUAL ROLES. RIGHTS.

Feminism means a woman can be a wife to husband. BUT SHE MUST NOT BE A SLAVE TO HIM.

Do you understand feminism?

FEMINISM IS NOT COMPETING WITH MEN IT IS: SEE ME AS A HUMAN BEING BEFORE SEEING ME THROUGH THE LENSES OF A GENDER.

FEMINISM IS NOT A STRUGGLE TO BE SUPERIOR.

FEMINISM IS NOT ANTI-MEN.

FEMINISM IS ANTI-PATRIARCHY.

PATRIARCHY IS A SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT OR SOCIETY WHERE MEN HOLD POWER AND WOMEN ARE LARGELY EXCLUDED.

WHY SHOULD A PERSON BE EXCLUDED BECAUSE OF A VAGINA?

To end this, a question for you: What happens when a woman with natural leadership skills gets married to a man with no leadership skills or desire to lead? Who becomes the head of that family?

Should we give a paint brush to someone that can't paint?
Romance / Re: On Feminism: Patriarchy-peddled Female Privileges by SunehriLasgidi(f): 8:27pm On Jul 08, 2016
It should be noted here that having a privilege and not using it doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong to you.
An example is being born into royalty. There are privileges that come with it. You have those privileges, those “rights”, even if you don’t use them.

Here’s a list of Female Privileges

1. Privilege to Blame Sexism for Failure

2. Entitlement to a Man’s Wealth

3. . Privilege to Not Foot Bills

4. Privilege to Take a Man’s Name

5. Privilege to Commit Crime

6. Privilege to Make a False Claim of Rape and Violence

We want a society where men and women wouldn’t be seen through the lenses of their genders.

We want a society whereby no one has privileges that would put another person at a disadvantage.

We want a society where people would be appraised based on their personalities, traits, talents, temperaments, and skills not their anatomies.

If a boy says he wants to be a househusband, let him be one. It doesn’t make him less of a person. It doesn’t reduce his worth as a man. What makes you a man? Your anatomy. Our bodies should not be our limitations in expressing ourselves as human beings.

If a girl says she wants to be a millionaire by 18, let her be one. Let’s not discourage her saying it would hamper her chances of getting married. Let’s not say it doesn’t make her feminine. What makes you a woman? Your anatomy.

Romance / On Feminism: Patriarchy-peddled Female Privileges by SunehriLasgidi(f): 8:24pm On Jul 08, 2016
As stated earlier, feminism is against patriarchy; not men.

Patriarchy is a system of society or government in which men hold power and women are largely excluded.

Here is another definition: a system of society whereby men have authority over women and children.

It should be noted here that getting rid of patriarchy is not saying we want a matriarchal society. We want an egalitarian society.
