HealthRe: How To Avoid Pregnancy Naturally by sunkuns003(m): 6:41pm On Jan 02, 2014
Knowing how to prevent pregnancy can seem daunting, especially since there are so many birth control options to choose from. The birth control you use is a personal choice that should be carefully considered. Educating yourself on the various methods is the first step to finding the one that fits with your lifestyle and beliefs.

StepsTips and Warnings
Method 1 of 5: Barrier Methods

1
Condoms. Latex condoms are worn on the penis during intercourse. They prevent pregnancy by keeping semen from coming into contact with fertile eggs. Condoms are often given out for free at health clinics, and they're available for over-the-counter purchase for about $1.00 a piece at drug stores and grocery stores.

An added benefit of condoms is that they protect both parties from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) as well as pregnancy.
Condoms are made from thin latex, so they occasionally tear during intercourse. When this happens, the chances of pregnancy go up.[1]
Some people have allergies to latex condoms, and choose condoms made of plastic instead.
2
Female condoms. Also made of latex, female condoms are shaped like a ring with a pouch. The pouch fits inside the vagina, while the ring stays outside the body to hold it in place. They collect semen during intercourse so it never has a chance to enter the woman's body. Female condoms cost about $4.00 a piece and are available at drugstores.

Female condoms reduce the risk of STDs by protecting the vagina from directly getting touched.
Female condoms are slightly less effective than regular condoms, and some people say that they are less comfortable to use.[2]
3
Diaphragms. These shallow cups made of silicone are inserted inside the vagina and over the cervix to prevent semen from contacting an egg. They are commonly used in combination with spermicidal jelly, which prevents sperm from moving, in order to increase efficacy.

Since every woman's body is a slightly different shape, diaphragms must be fitted to make sure they're the right size. Talk to your gynecologist or health clinic worker about getting fitting for a diaphragm.
Diaphragms are quite effective, but they don't prevent the transmission of STDs.[3]
Method 2 of 5: Hormonal Birth Control

1
Birth control pills. Birth control pills, often referred to in shorthand as "the Pill," consist of synthetic estrogen and progestin hormones that keep a woman's eggs from leaving her ovaries, so that pregnancy can't happen.[4] When taken properly, they are extremely effective. Contraceptive pills are available on a prescription-only basis from your gynecologist or health care provider.

The Pill must be taken every day, at the same time each day, to work properly. Skipping a few days could decrease its efficacy.
The Pill causes some women to experience side effects. Different brands of pills have different levels of estrogen and progestin, so your doctor may prescribe a different brand if one seems to be causing negative side effects.[5]
2
Other hormonal devices. The same hormones that make birth control pills effective can be distributed to the body by other means. If you don't like taking pills every day, consider these options:
Depo-Provera, or the birth control shot. This shot is administered in the arm once every three months. The shot is very effective at preventing pregnancy, but it has been reported that side effects are possible.[6]

The birth control patch. The patch is usually placed on the arm, back or thigh. It distributes hormones through the skin and has to be replaced every few weeks.

The birth control ring. The ring is inserted into the vagina once a month. It releases hormones to prevent pregnancy from occurring.

The birth control implant. A small rod is inserted in the arm, and it releases hormones to prevent pregnancy for up to three years. It must be inserted and removed by a health care provider.[7]

3
Intrauterine Devices (IUDs). The IUD is a small metal device inserted in the uterus by a health care provider. One type of IUD works by releasing hormones, and another type is made of copper, which affects the mobility of sperm and stops them from fertilizing the egg.[8]

IUDs are extremely effective and last up to 12 years, although they can cost from $500 to $1,000.
If you're concerned about disrupting your menstrual cycle, consider the copper IUD, which doesn't interfere with your hormones or cause hormonal birth control-related side effects.
Method 3 of 5: Behavioral Methods

1
Abstinence. Abstaining from vaginal intercourse prevents pregnancy by preventing the man's semen from coming into contact with the woman's egg. Abstinence is one hundred percent effective in preventing pregnancy when it is used continuously.

Some people define abstinence as abstaining from all sexual contact, but in order to prevent pregnancy, only vaginal intercourse needs to be avoided.
Abstinence requires strong willpower, and some people might find it difficult to rely on this birth control method for long periods of time.
It's important to have another birth control method in place once abstinence is ended.
2
Fertility awareness. Also called natural family planning, this method of birth control requires having sex only during times of the menstrual cycle when the woman is not fertile. During times when pregnancy would be possible, periodic abstinence is employed. For fertility awareness to be effective, the practitioner must understand and respect the perimeters of her fertility.
Fertility awareness often involves three different ways for calculating fertility: the calendar method, the mucus method, and the temperature method. Used together, these three methods are very effective at determining exactly when a woman is fertile.
The calendar method requires tracking the different phases of the menstrual cycle on a calendar, then noticing patterns over time and using the patterns to predict when ovulation will occur.

The mucus method involves checking vaginal mucus, which changes in color and consistency when a woman is fertile.

The temperature method involves checking the body's basal temperature every day and noticing when it goes up a few tenths of degree, which signals that ovulation has occurred.

The downside of fertility awareness is that it requires a lot of time and attention. If you forget to check mucus or temperature for a few days, you may miscalculate the days during which sex should be avoided.
The upside of fertility awareness is that it its completely natural, requiring almost no money, no outside hormones, and no uncomfortable devices.
Method 4 of 5: Surgical Methods

1
Female sterilization. Surgery is conducted to close off the fallopian tubes in a process called tubal ligation, preventing the possibility of pregnancy. This method is extremely effective at preventing pregnancy, but it is not to be taken lightly, since it is difficult or impossible to reverse.

2
Vasectomy. Men may choose to undergo a process that blocks their vasa deferentia, through which sperm flow, preventing them from mixing with semen.[9] When the man ejaculates, his semen does not contain sperm, making it impossible for him to get a woman pregnant. Vasectomy may be reversed in some cases, but it should not be considered unless the intention is to become permanently sterilized.

Method 5 of 5: Preventing Pregnancy After Sex

1
Use emergency contraception. Also called Plan B, emergency contraception consists of two pills containing levonorgestrel that are ingested as soon as possible after sexual intercourse.[10] The sooner they are taken, the more effective they are at preventing pregnancy.

Emergency contraception is available at most pharmacies and from your healthcare provider.
Emergency contraception should not be a replacement for regular birth control; it's a last resort to be take after unprotected sex.
PoliticsPdp G7 Governors Join Apc by sunkuns003(op): 9:35pm On Nov 26, 2013
The seven aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party governors, also known as the G7, have joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Acting National Chairman of the now defunct new PDP, Mr Kawu Baraje, told journalists that the merger is expected to rescue the nation’s fledgling democracy.

Governors of Kano, Rivers, Kwara and Niger states attended today’s press conference at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja where the announcement of the merger was made.

The G7 members are made up of Kwara State Governor, Ahmed Abdulfatah, Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, that of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko, Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, the Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwankwanso, Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State.

The split in the PDP came after the Special Delegates Convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held in August.

The governors walked out of the convention ground with the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to the Yar’adua Centre in Abuja where they announced the formation of the new PDP.

Also in the protest walk-out was a former Chairman of the PDP, Abubakar Baraje, and some senators.

PoliticsEFCC Arrests Delta State Auditor General For Local Government Over Falsification by sunkuns003(op): 3:31am On Nov 13, 2013
For alleged refusal to go on retirement after reaching and passing the mandatory 35 years of service as well as falsification of documents, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) South-East Zone, on Thursday arrested Ms. Brown Mary Njokanma, the Delta state auditor general for local governments.

A source in the EFCC Enugu zonal office who pleaded for anonymity told SaharaReporters that Ms. Njokanma was arrested following a petition against her, but that she was later granted bail.

“We told her clearly that she was still in our hook and we shall get back to her because the evidence brought forward by the petitioner against her are overwhelming. A woman who came to service with level four and through the service went to school and came back and rose to that position [should not] deliberately refuse to retire,” the source said.

“With available evidence and records with us shows that the woman was actually employed in 1973 in the defunct Midwestern state. Our findings have also shown that the Bendel Development and Planning Authority where she first got her employment in 1973 [had] been in existence since 1960 in the defunct Midwestern state,” the source added.

The petition was written by a nongovernmental organization called Excellent World Foundation, and entitled “Fraudulent and Illegal Collection of Salaries By Mrs M. Brown Njokanma, Auditor General, Local Government, Delta State.” Signed by its executive director, Mr. Michael Enahoro Michael, and obtained by SaharaReporters, it accused the supposedly retired auditor general of flouting civil service rules and falsification of documents to perpetually remain in office although her tenure had elapsed.

The petition also accused Ms. Njokanma of fraudulently and illegally collecting salaries and entitlements when she ought to have retired in 2008 according to service rules, and appealed to the anti-graft agency to compel her to proceed on retirement as well as order her to refund all the salaries collected illegally from the coffers of Delta State.

The petition underlined Ms. Njokanma’s date of employment in the civil service in November 1973 under the Midwestern state, albeit as Miss Mary Aizebioje, her maiden name. It asserted that Miss Mary Aizebioje was the same person as Ms. Brown Mary Njokanma.

Elements of the petition read as follows:

“The said Mrs. Brown M. Njokanma has severally falsified her date of birth and that of her appointment to continue in this fraudulent act. Contrary to the evidence, a senior staff list was published on April 1, 1987 (official document 5 of 1987) where it was fraudulently and wrongly stated that her date of birth and date of first appointment are 12th, December, 1957 and 14th, August, 1981 respectfully.

“Again in the Delta state government senior staff list of 31st, December, 2006, Mrs. Njokanma fraudulently and wrongly stated her date of birth and first appointment to be 12/12/1957 and 14/8/1983. Mrs. Brown M. Njokanma in the falsification of her date of birth and date of first appointment is to avert possible retirement and to gain pecuniary benefits from the Delta state government, her employer.”

“She sat for the confirmation and promotion in 1982 which shows she was employed in 1973 and couldn’t have been employed in 1981 and [written] the examination in 1982 and her date of first appointment confirmed to take effect from October 1, 1975.” stressing that Mrs. Njokanma having been employed in 1973 ought to have retired since 2008 as the mandatory 35 years in service and anything contrary is a fraud and illegal collection of salaries not due to her since 2008 till date.
SaharaReporters had before now obtained a letter dated November 13, 1973 that indicated that Ms. Njokanma was hired by the then Bendel State civil service in 1973. Her first posting was to the then Bendel Development and Planning Authority, Benin City. A source familiar with civil service rules and procedures told SaharaReporters that she was due for mandatory retirement as far back as November 2008.

Another letter obtained by SaharaReporters, dated February 16, 1976 and issued by the Bendel Development and Planning Authority (reference No. CPA 315/9) confirmed Ms. Njokanma’s appointment. Other documents reveal that Ms. Njokanma applied for in-service training variously on September 9, 1976, February 3, 1977 and October 23, 1978 – and all were granted.

A source confided in SaharaReporters: “Every month Mrs. Njokanma collects N570, 000 as salary outside other entitlements. From November 2008, when she was supposed to retire, till date, she has received over 31 million Naira. So many letters have been written to various offices, but the more all these letters are written the more she carries millions of naira to bribe her way to continue to stay in office.”

An impeccable source disclosed that because of the special interest of the permanent secretary, Directorate of Establishment and Pension; the head of the state’s civil service; the chairman of the civil service commission and some other top government officials in the matter, they continued aiding and abetting the auditor general to evade retirement.

Contacted by phone, Mrs. Njokanma confirmed her arrest and said that she was given a clean bill of health by ICPC through a letter to the state government but when asked for a copy of the letter she was unable to provide it.

“Yes I was at EFCC and I gave them my position too and they promised to get back to me again. The issue has gone to court before and the court struck it out, we have gone to EFCC and they said my tenure is valid and I don't know why they are still dragging this matter

GamingFlorida Woman, 84, Scoops $590m Lottery Win by sunkuns003(op): 3:41am On Jun 06, 2013
An 84-year-old Florida woman has won the largest unshared jackpot in US lottery history - a prize of $590m (£383m).

Mother of four Gloria MacKenzie, who retired to Florida from Maine, bought the ticket in Zephyrhills on 18 May.

She opted to take a single lump sum of about $370m rather than the full amount spread over 30 years.

She appeared at the lottery HQ in Tallahassee with her son but did not speak to reporters.

But in a statement she said she bought the ticket in a Publix supermarket after another buyer "was kind enough to let me go ahead in line".

The $370m is reduced to about $278m after taxes.

The biggest lottery win in US history was $656m in March 2012 - but that was split three ways.

Ms MacKenzie retired to Zephyrhills more than a decade ago with her husband, Ralph. He died in 2005.

PhonesRedesigned Iphone To Feature Screens On Both Sides by sunkuns003(op): 7:32pm On Apr 09, 2013
APPLE could give the iPhone 6 curved screens on BOTH SIDES in its most radical redesign yet.

A patent taken out by the tech giants in 2011 describes the new shape, which also ditches the iconic home button.

This would be a bold move by the brand — as every iPhone to date has featured the single key below the screen.

The design features a huge, wraparound AMOLED display which has no border — instead providing top-to-bottom screen space.

Patent ... design drawing

It is also said to create “an illusion of depth perception” and be capable of “mimicking a 3D experience”.

These images of what it could look like were created by designer Nikolay Lamm for website myvouchercodes.co.uk.

Writing on the site, he played down the idea that this could be the phone to finally win the smartphone war.

He said: “It’s a cool design, but one which is unlikely to give Apple a sustainable competitive advantage.

“If Samsung sees that Apple’s curved iPhone is selling well, it can come out with a curved phone of its own.”

Nikolay also issued his own rallying cry to the company’s top bosses, adding: “Apple needs to look to new frontiers, new products, in order to be the ‘think different’ Apple it was under Steve Jobs.”

EducationFG To Scrap JAMB Exam, NECO, NAPEP by sunkuns003(op): 3:55am On Apr 03, 2013
FG to scrap JAMB exam, NECO, NAPEP

Federal Government has concluded arrangements to scrap the National Examination Council.

Plans have also been concluded to cancel the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination being conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board for applicants into the nation’s tertiary institutions. JAMB will however not be scrapped.

The government’s decisions, which would be made public soon via a White Paper, are based on the recommendations of the Stephen Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.

A government source told our correspondent that the decisions were part of the recommendations made by a White Paper Committee set up by the government on the Oronsaye report.

The source added that upon receipt of the latest report, President Goodluck Jonathan has been meeting with Vice-President Namadi Sambo and a few top government officials to take final decisions on it. It was in one of such meetings held on Tuesday that the final decision was taken.

Under the new arrangement, the source said in place of UTME, authorities of all tertiary institutions would now be at liberty to conduct their entrance examinations as they had been doing for post-UTME.

JAMB will however serve as a clearing house.

“JAMB will now be a clearing house like Universities and Colleges Admissions Service in the UK. If somebody gains admission into three universities and holds down space, immediately such person picks his first choice, JAMB’s system will automatically free the remaining two slots for other applicants.

“JAMB will no longer conduct examinations but it will be setting the standard alongside the schools authorities,” the source said.

UCAS, which was established in 1993, is the British admission service for students applying to university and college, including post-16 education as of 2012. UCAS is primarily funded by students who pay a fee when they apply and a capitation fee from universities for each student they accept.

On NECO, the source said in arriving at the decision to scrap the examination body, the committee took into cognizance its huge facilities across the country.

But it was resolved that the West African Examination Council would absorb NECO’s members of staff and its facilities.
WAEC will also be empowered to conduct two Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations per year, one in January and the other probably in December.

Hitherto, only one November/December SSCE Examination is being conducted.

The May/June Senior Secondary Certificate Examination being organised by the examination body once in a year still stands.

The government source also said arrangements had been concluded to scrap the Public Complaint Commission, the National Poverty Eradication Programme and the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution among others.
