PoliticsBREAKING: Department Of Serial Stealers (DSS) Refuses To Return Sowore’s Mobile by SUNNEW(op): 11:20pm On Dec 24, 2019
Officials of the Department of State Services have refused to release three mobile phones seized from pro-democracy campaigner and journalist, Omoyele Sowore, since August 3, 2019 when he was first arrested in Lagos.

Though the agency released the 48-year-old journalist for the second time on Tuesday evening following an order by Nigeria’s Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), officials of the secret police failed to return his mobile phones apparently in an attempt to monitor his communication and keep deprive him of important contacts stored on the devices.

PhonesHuawei Beats Google—offers $220,000 For ‘zero-click’ Android Phone Hacks by SUNNEW(op): 9:54am On Nov 19, 2019
Huawei Beats Google—Offers $220,000 For ‘Zero-Click’ Android Phone Hacks.

Huawei has fended off questions about secret backdoors in its smartphone and networking technology for years. Now it’s going to reward hackers for finding them in its Android-based mobile phones and in the process is outdoing Google.

In a bug bounty launch last week, Huawei said it would pay up to $220,000 (€200,000) for demonstrating a “critical” weakness in one of its Android devices, including the Mate, P, Nova, Y9 and Honor models. For a “high”-severity issue, hackers can earn up to $110,000 (€100,000). Google, meanwhile, offers up to $200,000 and $100,000 for demonstrations of similar attacks on its Pixel phones.

Huawei revealed the program at a private event for some of the world’s top Android hackers at a Munich, Germany, event last week. In giving an example of how they could get the top prize, Huawei told the hackers they would have to obtain remote access to the device without the target having to click anything. A high-severity hack would see the hacker take over a phone when they had direct access to the phone.

Huawei is, in one way, following Apple’s lead in keeping the bug bounty invite-only. Forbes 30 Under 30 alum Maria Markstedter was one of those invited. She revealed on Twitter that researchers who were invited would also be given tokens to welcome other benevolent hackers into the fold.

however, offering up to $1 million for complete remote control of an iPhone with zero clicks. “So I’ll give it a look but I’m not excited, just interested.”

While bug bounties are common among major smartphone makers—Apple and Google are behind two of the biggest—Huawei could have another reason to open up its devices. Letting some of the world’s smartest hackers uncover security vulnerabilities could provide proof that it isn’t hiding any backdoors in its most popular phones that the Chinese government could leverage.
PoliticsGovernors’ Demand For Dollar Payments by SUNNEW(op): 3:43am On Nov 18, 2019
Governors’ demand for dollar payments: The way forward!

THE discussion, in last week’s column, was about the intention of State Governors to, henceforth, demand payment of their monthly portion of fiscal allocations, in the currency in which the revenue was earned. It is not clear why both CBN and the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission, RMFAC, have consistently audaciously breached, the subsisting Constitutional provisions for the disbursement of Government revenue, for so long, even when this breach is, largely, responsible for the present prostrate state of our economy.

It is, however, unlikely, that the silent beneficiaries of this clearly disruptive and oppressive, payment strategy, will simply give up the honey pot, and make revenue allocations constitutionally compliant, even if this will facilitate the realisation of a progressive economy with increasing job opportunities.

However, if CBN’s resistance to Constitutional provisions continues, the Governors will probably be best served, to reinforce the legality of their demand, by resuscitating and actively, following through an earlier bill sponsored, in 2016, by Senator Francis Alimikhena (APC Edo North).

PoliticsForeign Herdsmen Exempted From The Border Closure Policy? by SUNNEW(op): 6:39am On Nov 17, 2019
Onuesoke, while commending the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over the closure of land border with neighbouring countries, however, pointed that the action and benefit expected from it will not be completed if livestock like cattle, sheep, goats and finished petroleum products, among others, are also allowed into the country.

Onuesoke, who gave the advise in Lagos, said it is disappointing that while the Nigerian Customs has been active about seizure of rice, poultry products and other goods, it has had not made mention of cattle, sheep or goat that are moved across the border by nomadic herdsmen.

According to him, “It is on record that cattle are moved from Chad, Niger and Mali into Nigeria territories by herdsmen either in search of green grass or for sale to Nigerian consumers. It is unfortunate that since the border closure nothing has been said about the movement of these livestock. Does it mean that they are exempted from the border closure policy?

“Nigeria will want to hear that hundred of cows that are entering the country are intercepted by the Customs. Rather we hear of only rice, chickens, turkey or fairly-used clothes. The Customs should allow the policy to affect all products. What is worth doing at all, is worth doing well,” Onuesoke stated.

Governors reply Miyetti Allah: You cant’s force us to donate land to herdsmen.

Governors from the South-West, South-South, South-East and the Middle Belt have vowed they will not donate lands in their regions for herdsmen settlements despite the latest threat by herdsmen under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.

The National President of the herdsmen group, Alhaji Abdullahi Bodejo, in a statement last weekend said governors who wanted peace in their states must establish herdsmen settlements.

“You are a governor and you want to enjoy peace in your state, you don’t need any long meeting, just create a particular area for the Fulani and equip them with modern facilities,” Bodejo said.

However, former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a swift reaction on Monday said it was a mistake on the part of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore to tie the existence of peace in the states of the federation to the establishment of settlements for herdsmen.

But governors from the four geopolitical zones of the country who spoke with Sunday PUNCH lambasted the herdsmen group and said no amount of threat would force them to donate lands for settlements in their regions.

The governors who spoke through statements by their media aides said neither Ruga nor any other forms of herdsmen settlement would be allowed in their domains despite the threat.

SportsUCL: Cristiano Ronaldo Reacted Furiously After Being Substituted by SUNNEW(op): 10:40am On Nov 07, 2019
Cristiano Ronaldo was clearly unhappy after being substituted for Paulo Dybala by Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri in the 82nd minute of the Champions League match against Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday. There was a certain outbreak by Cristiano Ronaldo fans on Twitter after the Portuguese talisman was substituted with many slamming Maurizio Sarri for his decision. But the former Chelsea and Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri calmly explained why Cristiano Ronaldo had to be substituted while Juventus were chasing a winner in the match.

"Ronaldo was angry because he wasn't very well, he had a knee problem a few days ago and his adductor easily got tired," Sarri was quoted as saying by goal.com.

"At the end of the first half he was nervous. I was afraid he would hurt himself and I preferred to take him off," the Italian added.

It is the first time since February 2016 that Cristiano Ronaldo failed to complete 90 minutes in a Champions League fixture. To make this worse, Ronaldo was also robbed off his goal scoring chance when Aaron Ramsey tapped home his effort on the line.

Juventus, however, booked their last 16 berth in the Champions League after Douglas Costa scored the winner in the injury time.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) also booked their Champions League last 16 spots on Wednesday night.

SportsNFF Smuggled DSS Director General’s Son, Abba Bichi, Into U-17 World Cup Team by SUNNEW(op): 2:28pm On Nov 05, 2019
Son of the Director General of
the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, was smuggled into the
Golden Eaglets squad at the ongoing Brazil 2019 U-17 World Cup squad.

SaharaReporters' investigations showed that the Golden Eaglet’s coach,
Manu Garba, was coerced into selecting DSS boss' son even though the
lad was said not to be good enough for the team.

Some highly ranked officials of the Nigeria Football Federation had
called Garba while he was in Brazil preparing for the tournament with
his team. He was asked to drop one of the players for Bichi’s son.

He initially rejected the directive but later succumbed to pressure
amidst threats.

A source in the Golden Eaglets camp in Brazil confirmed to
SaharaReporters that Garba dropped Ogaga Oduko to include the
15-year-old Bichi in the list submitted to FIFA.

“Oduko had been with the team since the time of the U-17 Africa Cup of
Nations tournament in Tanzania. He was also with the team during the
preparatory tour of Turkey and we all see his overall contribution to
the team.

“We were surprised when he was dropped in the final squad list and saw
the name of Abba Bichi included,” sources told SaharaReporters.

Bichi said to be based in China “was never part of the team".

"We do not know much about him until his shock inclusion in the team,"
SaharaReporters was told.

"He was not part of the squad when the team played the tournament in Tanzania."

A source further disclosed: “What made his inclusion strange was that
we were all in Brazil when he came into camp to join the team. He was
introduced as the new player and Oduko was told that he would not be
partaking in the competition.

“Oduko was told to stay in Brazil instead of going back to Nigeria and
the young lad was helpless."

The DSS boss' son was an unused substitute in Nigeria’s first two
matches played by the Golden Eaglets in the tournament against Hungary
and Ecuador, which Nigeria won.

Another reliable source familiar with the issue disclosed that the
coach did not confidence in the DSS boss' son's ability, as he had not
seen him in action before he joined the team in Brazil.

The source said, “Bichi, the DSS DG’s son might not play for the team
because the coaching crew cannot vouch for his ability. You can see
that he was not featured in the game even though he was listed in the
squad.”

“We may not get to see him play a crucial part in the tournament
except in games that the team does not place importance on.”

According to FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 regulations, the final
list of 21 players must be selected from the provisional squad list of
50 players.

The guideline also stated that any addition or changes that must be
made to the team list must be within the provisional squad submitted
by the coach.

Bichi’s name is conspicuously missing from the provisional squad, as
he was never part of the team prior to his inclusion.

“Each participating member association shall submit a provisional list
online of a minimum of 22 players and a maximum of 50 players (a
minimum of four of whom shall be goalkeepers) to FIFA, accompanied by
a copy of the passport of each player appearing on the list. The
provisional list shall be submitted to FIFA by the deadline stipulated
in the relevant circular letter.

“The final list of the 21 players (three of whom shall be goalkeepers)
selected to participate in the World Cup shall be submitted online by
the stipulated deadline. A signed copy of this list must also be sent
to FIFA by the same deadline. All information requested online about
the players should be duly completed.
