Six Arrested in India and Two Others in Algeria for Forging Schengen Visas
Schengen visaSix people have been arrested in India in separate cases, after four of them presented fake Schengen visa stickers to the US embassy in Mumbai, in an attempt to convince the embassy that they are frequent travelers. The other two are being held for forging the visa stickers and exit/entry stamps.

At the same time, two men between the ages of 35 and 36, specialized in the falsification of Schengen visa application documents, have been arrested in eastern Algeria.

According to a crime branch official in India, six persons were arrested in two separate complaints, both lodged by Brandon Kelley Shaw, an employee of the United States Embassy in Mumbai.

In the first case, a couple was arrested after they presented their passports to the US embassy, with fabricated Schengen visa stickers and stamps “issued” by countries like France, Switzerland and Italy.

“During their visa interview, Mahesh Patel and Aruna Patel broke down and confessed that they had never visited France, Switzerland or Italy, and the Schengen visas fixed on their passport and the immigration stamps on them were fake and fabricated,” the officer said.

The third person, visa agent Dharmesh Patel, owner of Universal Travels/ Overseas Office was arrested for arranging the forgery of visa stickers and fake arrival and departure stamps in exchange of money.

Similarly, in the second case, another couple was arrested for presenting passports with fabricated Spain and Switzerland Schengen visa stickers and stamps to the US embassy, as well as stamps and stickers of countries like China, and Australia.

The last person, Parimal Patel, an agent in Kalol, was arrested for providing the couple with the fake visas and immigration stamps of other countries.

On the other hand, the Algerian police arrested two men in the town of Bouchegouf, eastern Algeria. Both of them are charged with use of forgeries, imitation of seals and signatures, falsification of Schengen visa files, and transfer of capital in foreign currency to foreign countries.

The Bouchegouf region court placed one of them under a warrant. The other was temporarily released pending further investigation.

A NATO F-18 fighter attempted to approach the plane carrying Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu over the Baltic Sea.
MOSCOW, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two Russian Su-27 fighters drove away an F-18 aircraft belonging to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which attempted to approach the plane carrying Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday.
The Russian Defense Ministry's Zvezda broadcasting service said the incident took place over the neutral waters in the Baltic Sea.
Shoigu was returning to Moscow from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad on the Baltic shore, where he attended an international amphibious assault landing troop competition earlier in the day, Zvezda said.

A:Hindus arrange swift cremation of the dead, ideally within 24 hours. The fire and accompanying rites sever ties to earthly life and give momentum to the soul for its continuing spiritual journey.


Longer answer: Hindus traditionally cremate their dead because a fiery dissolution of the body brings swifter, more complete release of the soul than burial, which preserves the soul’s psychic connection to its just-ended earthly life. After death, the departed soul hovers close to the earth plane in its astral body, emotionally attached to the physical body and its old surroundings, still able to see this material world. The funeral rites and burning of the body signify spiritual release, notifying the soul that, in fact, death has come. Some of the funeral chants address the deceased, urging the soul to relinquish attachments and continue its spiritual journey. The Gods and devas are invoked to assist the soul in its transition. The fire severs ties to earthly life and gives momentum to the soul, granting at least momentary access to refined, heavenly realms. All attention is on a singular goal, as expressed in this prayer from the Rig Veda: “Release him again, O Agni, to the fathers. The one offered to you now proceeds to his destiny. Putting on new life, let him approach the surviving, let him reunite with a [new] body, All-Knowing One!” (10. 16. 5).

Elaboration: Hindus do not believe in bodily resurrection and the reuniting of each soul with its physical body, so they place no importance on preserving the corpse, which is the intent of burial in Christianity and Islam. The Hindu belief in reincarnation gives assurance that death is merely the soul’s release from the current life. An ancient text puts it simply, “Even as the snake sloughs off its skin, even as the bird leaves its shell, even as in its waking state the soul forgets happenings of the dream state, thus does the soul migrate from one body to another…” (Tirumantiram 2132).

Family and friends take an active part in releasing the departed soul: preparing the body, joining in the rituals, transporting the body to the cremation grounds and lighting the pyre. After cremation, the ashes are ceremoniously committed to a river (often the Ganga), lake or ocean, along with garlands and flowers. While the rites allow family a dignified farewell and an opportunity to express grief, all present know there will be other bodies, other lives. Mourning is never suppressed, but scriptures admonish against excessive lamentation and encourage joyous release. The departed soul feels the impact of emotional forces directed at him, and prolonged grieving can hold him in earthly consciousness, inhibiting full transition to the inner worlds. Hindus speak of death as the Great Departure, regarding it as life’s most exalted moment. The death anniversary is called Liberation Day.

Cremation is prescribed in the Vedic texts, and Hindu funeral customs are remarkably uniform throughout India. Cremation is also practiced by other Indic faiths, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism, and is becoming popular worldwide. Many believe the body should be disposed of as swiftly and cleanly as possible and that fire is the purest way to return the physical elements to their source. It is less expensive than burial, with a smaller impact on the environment. Recent figures show cremations are chosen by 35% in the US, 72% in the UK, 99.9% in Japan, 68% in Canada and 49% in China.

Infants and small children, however, are buried in Hindu tradition. Another exception pertains to enlightened souls, for whom the body is often interred in a crypt filled with salt, and a shrine or temple is constructed at the site. Sacred texts assert their remarkable disciplines have endowed the physical body with immense spiritual power, which can radiate for generations, giving blessings through this sacred samadhi, especially if that soul remains aware of the Earth plane.

Israeli forces attacked Palestinian worshipers in Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque complex on Sunday, the first day of Islamic Qurban Bayram (Feast of the Sacrifice) holiday also known as Eid al-Adha, injuring at least 37, according to a Palestinian official.

"A number of Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli forces inside the Al-Aqsa mosque compound," said Firas al-Dibs, a spokesman for Jerusalem's Jordan-run Religious Endowments Authority.

"The Palestinians were injured while they were preventing Jewish settlers from storming the holy mosque," he added.

Palestinian Red Crescent, meanwhile, said that 37 Palestinian were injured after Israeli forces attacked the worshipers with rubber bullets, teargas and truncheons.

"The worshipers were moderately injured and 14 of them were transferred to hospitals for further treatment," it added.

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli police prevented settlers from storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Israeli media reported. The police cited the presence of tens of thousands of Palestinian worshipers and the high possibility of clashes.

Jews are also observing on Sunday the Ninth of Av (Tisha B'av), a day of fasting and mourning for the destruction of the two Biblical temples which stood at the site in antiquity.

The Islamic Waqfs in Jerusalem decided to delay Eid prayers to 7.30 a.m. (0430 GMT) instead of 6.30 a.m. (0330GMT), to address settlers' call to storm the Al-Aqsa in the so-called "memory of the destruction of the Temple."

Extremist Jewish organizations, known widely as Temple Mount groups, had called for massive raids on the Al-Aqsa during this week.

Israeli police reversed their decision after the clashes broke out and allowed settlers to enter. Several dozen entered the site under close police escort and Muslim worshippers began throwing chairs and other objects at the group. The Jewish visitors left the compound shortly thereafter.

Jerusalem District police commander Doron Yedid told Israeli media that the decision to allow Jewish visitors to enter the site was made "with the backing of the top political officials."

The reversal came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's religious nationalist allies called for the site to be opened to Jewish visitors. Israelis are headed to unprecedented repeat elections on September 17 after Netanyahu failed to form a government following April's elections. Netanyahu is widely seen as wanting to maintain calm.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East war along with the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. In a move never recognized by the international community, Israel annexed the entire city in 1980, claiming it as the self-proclaimed Jewish state's "eternal and undivided" capital.

Sacred to Muslims, Christians and Jews, Jerusalem is home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which for Muslims represents the world's third holiest site after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. Jews refer to the area as the "Temple Mount," claiming it was the site of two prominent Jewish temples in ancient times. It also includes Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of the most sacred Christian sites in the world.

Jews are barred from praying at the compound under a longstanding arrangement between Israel and Muslim authorities. Jewish tradition also maintains that Jews should avoid entering the holy site.

But in recent years Israeli religious nationalists have stepped up visits to the site to challenge the arrangement. Jewish extremists have called for destroying the mosque and rebuilding the Biblical temple.

The Palestinians view such visits as provocations, and have long feared that Israel intends to take over the site or partition it. The Israeli government has repeatedly said it has no intention of changing the status quo.

MOSCOW, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Russia and China should exchange information on the interference of the United States in the internal affairs of the two countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.
The ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing that Moscow is aware of Chinese statements that the United States interferes in Hong Kong affairs and it treats this information "with all seriousness."
"Moreover, I think it would be right and useful to exchange such information through respective services," Zakharova said, adding that she and her Chinese colleagues will discuss the issue soon.
Zakharova said the United States' secret service is using technology to destabilize Russia and China.
Earlier on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it had summoned U.S. Embassy Political Section head Tim Richardson, and presented him with an official protest against the U.S. encouraging an unauthorized opposition rally on Aug. 3.
The ministry criticized the United States for attempting to interfere in Russia's domestic affairs.

Apple Inc is offering cyber security researchers up to $1 million to detect flaws in iPhones, the largest reward offered by a company to defend against hackers, at a time of rising concern about governments breaking into the mobile devices of dissidents, journalists and human rights advocates.

Unlike other technology providers, Apple previously offered rewards only to invited researchers who tried to find flaws in its phones and cloud backups.

At the annual Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, the company said it would open the process to all researchers, add Mac software and other targets, and offer a range of rewards, called "bounties," for the most significant findings.

The $1 million prize would apply only to remote access to the iPhone kernel without any action from the phone's user. Apple's previous highest bounty was $200,000 for friendly reports of bugs that can then be fixed with software updates and not leave them exposed to criminals or spies.

Government contractors and brokers have paid as much as $2 million for the most effective hacking techniques to obtain information from devices. Apple's new bounties, however, are in the same range as some published prices from contractors.

Apple is taking other steps to make research easier, including offering a modified phone that has some security measures disabled. A principal component of breaches is programs that take advantage of otherwise unknown flaws in the phones, their software or installed applications.

A number of private companies, such as Israel's NSO Group, sell hacking capabilities to governments.

"NSO Group develops technology that is licensed to intelligence and law enforcement agencies for the sole purpose of preventing and investigating terror and crime," NSO said in a statement. "It is not a tool to target journalists for doing their job or to silence critics."

The immediate past Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, was by no means a typical governor. He once acknowledged his unusualness before a curious audience by asking them, “Do I look like a governor?” He was unusual in physique, in approach, and in governance style. Led by a leading newspaper, the press immediately pounced on him, and never let go until he left office. I was initially co-opted into the negative press corps, leading to my cautionary article, entitled “Ogbeni, softly, softly” (The PUNCH, November 27, 2012). However, the more I looked into Aregbesola’s activities and projects at close quarters, the more I realised that the press was wrong about him most of the time. This is not to say that he was above board. He surely deserved criticism for his excesses and failures, to which I will return later. Nevertheless, the baby need not have been thrown out with the bathwater.

However, my interventionist attempts (for example, ‘Reporters and false reports’, The PUNCH, September 9, 2014) to set the records straight were dwarfed by persistent press negativity, partly because Ogbeni reacted harshly to negative press; partly because he persisted in pursuing his goal with characteristic nonchalance; and partly because he carried his unusualness into many policy areas.

For example, he reorganised the educational system, reclassified schools, and merged some schools in the process. He even renamed some of them, including my alma mater of Ilesa Grammar School, to the discomfiture of some old students. Rather than purchase textbooks, he introduced Opon Imo, the Tablet of Knowledge, in which textbooks and other educational resources were stored. A 25-year-old woman who lost her ovaries, uterus and toes after her IUD forced its way up into her stomach and migrated over to her liver said her faith in God has helped her recover.

“Sometimes things happen in your life and you don’t know why,” Tanai Smith, of Baltimore, Md., wrote on a GoFundMe page. “You question yourself why me or what did I do to deserve this? But what you should be asking is what can I learn from it. I’m finally coming out to tell my story because I feel like I can help someone.”

Smith said she was offered birth control six weeks after her daughter’s 2014 birth. She said that she was told it would work for five years, but at an annual check-up with a new gynecologist in October 2017 she allegedly learned that there was potentially an issue.

The gynecologist, whom she did not name in her post, could not find the IUD, and allegedly sent her for two ultrasounds. Smith said the scans did not show the IUD.

“One day in the beginning of November I was at work I began to have a sharp pain in the bottom right side of my stomach and the first thing that popped in my head was is this that IUD?” she wrote, adding that she took herself to the emergency room when it worsened.

Smith said she was taken for an X-ray, which showed that her IUD had wound up in her stomach.

“I went and talked to my OB-GYN, told him everything that was going on and even showed him the X-ray picture that they allowed me to take,” she wrote. “So he said I have to get surgery. So I asked him how would they have to get it out and he told me they would cut me right under my belly button and use a scope.”

Smith claims that when she woke up from the Dec. 13 procedure, she noticed that she was cut three times, and that she was told the IUD broke into pieces and had traveled to her liver. She claims she was released from the hospital despite the fact that she was bleeding, but had to be rushed back overnight.

The most powerful passports in the world have been revealed in a new Henley Passport Index for 2019. The Henley Passport Index is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. It is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information. So which countries have the world’s most powerful passport this year?

Japan have the strongest passport of all, providing visa-free access to their citizens to 191 countries after the Brazilian government on Monday 17th June, 2019 waived visa requirements for visitors from the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan, a measure to boost tourism that was first temporarily adopted before the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Singapore and South Korea previously shared the number one position with Japan all having 189 visa-free access but has now slipped to second place with 190 visa-free access, but South Korea maintain third place with 189.

It now sits with Finland and Germany, with citizens of all three countries able to access 187 destinations around the world without a prior visa.

Finland has climbed up from its previous place after adding Pakistan to its list of countries it can access.

Pakistan formerly had a highly restrictive visa policy but now, in the hope of attracting tourists and boosting its struggling economy, it now offers an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) to citizens of 50 countries, including Finland, Japan, Malta, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates.

The extension does not apply to either the UK or the USA, however.

Denmark, Italy, and Luxembourg sit jointly in fourth place on the index, each with a visa-free/visa-on-arrival score of 186.

France, Spain, and Sweden are in joint fifth place, each with a score of 185.

In sixth place were Austria, the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland with a score of 184.

In a blow for Britain, the UK only came seventh in the Henley Passport Index, jointly with the USA, Belgium, Canada, Greece and Ireland. These countries have a visa-free/visa-on-arrival score of 183.

According to the Index: “Throughout most of the index’s long history, the UK has held one of the top five places in the ranking. However, with its exit from the EU now imminent, and coupled with ongoing confusion about the terms of its departure, the UK’s once-strong position looks increasingly uncertain.

“The Brexit process has not yet had a direct impact on the UK’s ranking, but new research using exclusive historical data from the Henley Passport Index indicates that this could change, with consequences that extend beyond a decline in passport power.”

In significant shifts elsewhere in the rankings, the United Arab Emirates has entered the index’s top 20 for the first time in the index’s 14-year history, with a visa-free/visa-on-arrival score of 165.

Over the past five years, the UAE has more than doubled the number of destinations its citizens are able to travel to without a prior visa.

Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the global mobility spectrum, with its citizens able to access only 25 destinations worldwide without a prior visa.
