Politics › I’ll Return Stronger To Rebuild PDP, Jonathan Tells Party Leadership by Surplus90(op): 7:15am On May 15, 2015 |
ABUJA — PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has told the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that he would return stronger to help rebuild the party after taking a short break outside the country with his family. The President urged the leadership, stakeholders, leaders, elders and members of the PDP to put behind them the defeat the party suffered during the March 28 presidential election where it lost to the All Progressives Congress, APC, after 16 years in power and build the party for future elections. President Jonathan, who did not actually blame the leadership of the party for his loss at the election, was said to have heaped the blames on some of his very close aides, just as he told the NWC members that a Special Adviser from the North did not even vote on the day of Presidential election. Vanguard gathered that President Jonathan, who thanked members of the NWC for their support, disclosed to them that soon after the May 29 handover of government, he would travel outside the country with his family, rest, recuperate and then come back to politics later, but not immediately. President Jonathan who also warned the leadership of the party against apportioning blames asked them to ensure that the PDP does not disintegrate because of March and April elections. PDP will bounce back He said from all indications, the PDP would bounce back against the backdrop that there would be the problem of ego where three persons will be serving as Presidents of the country with only one elected. The Wednesday meeting was held behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa with the aim of ending the lingering crisis in the party after the general elections where some PDP governors, party leaders, stakeholders and members have been calling for the sack of the present National Working Committee, NWC, under Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu. The meeting, the first of its kind since the PDP lost the presidency after 16 years of leadership to the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, retd, was a postmortem on the election, to discuss the way forward for the party especially the move to heal the inflicted wounds, to restrategise as well as reposition the party. It was also gathered that those present at the meeting used the opportunity to ruminate on the elections and the loss where they wished that the PDP would have won the election. The ruling PDP, which controlled the Presidency, the Senate and the House of Representatives for 16 years since 1999, did not only suffer Presidential defeat, but it lost in its traditional states of Plateau; Niger; Kaduna; Benue; Bauchi and Jigawa. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/ill-return-stronger-to-rebuild-pdp-jonathan-tells-party-leadership/ |
Jobs/Vacancies › Top 5 Job Vacancy Listing Sites In Nigeria - Nigerianbulletin by Surplus90(op): 7:35pm On May 14, 2015 |
Online job sites in Nigeria are gradually taking over the job advert placement. It used to be the norm for companies and organisations to place adverts in newspapers for vacancies that exist within the organisation. Though that still happens, it is however now more common to have vacancy information on the internet. There are several online platforms today that their primary activities centre around placing job adverts and notices on their sites. There are quite a number of such websites that operate in Nigeria, and it seems some are more popular than others. We will look at 5 of the top job vacancy listing sites in Nigeria. 1. Jobberman some will argue is the most popular job vacancy listing site in Nigeria. Jobberman and the reasons why they do what they do:
“The unacceptable high rate of unemployment got us totally perplexed and we decided to "take over the world (Jobs World)" and do something about it.” We set out with a mission to organise, deliver and manage the largest catalogue of jobs in Nigeria. We help employers fill their vacancies quickly and cost-effectively by giving them access to the most relevant pool of qualified job-seekers and professionals.
How Jobberman Started It all started with three young men: Opeyemi Awoyemi, Olalekan Olude, and Ayodeji Adewunmi, who were all university students. They shared the same interest in the Internet space and started Jobberman from the Obafemi Awolowo University campus during the Industrial Strike Action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of August 2009. They agreed to work on the Jobs space for a number of reasons including: a low capital requirement (considering that they were students at that time), huge market opportunity (labour force of ~45m) and superior product differentiation. Today the Jobberman story is that of success. They have bridged the gap between employers and prospective employees. 2.Careers24.com.ng[b/] This is another popular job vacancy listing site in Nigeria. Its uniqueness may be in the simplicity, user-friendly and attractive view of the website; simple and easy to navigate. Users though will find many useful pieces of information that will aid their job search or in the case of employers, will aid their employment process, this site has simplified everything. Nothing cumbersome at all. Anyone who is willing should visit this site and have an experience of simplicity that breeds possibility. [b]3. Log on to this website and you meet a gamut of information that tells you they are serious and mean business. Nothing is left to chance. Everything you need is there, you can almost get it at first instance. Here’s what they have to say, “ is not just a Job Portal, we are presently building a highly interactive and dynamic online destination for Nigerians worldwide to collaborate, interact, get informed and exchange ideas on career issues. HNJ provides you with a wealth of resources to help you grow your career or business. Information is Power! We expose opportunities you may never know existed. It is truly up to you as an individual to determine the level of your success by flying on the information and platform we provide for you.” Their website is replete with information for all categories of users, but they have this to say “To a Job Seeker / Aspiring Entrepreneur: Motivated and inspired people spark revolutions and create the future. Our objective is to help them achieve ambitious goals through optimum use of their talents and exposure to infinite opportunities surrounding them.” I think anyone who is serious about looking online for job search has not completed his/her search without visiting this platform. 4. There are several job vacancy listing platforms that have gone beyond just listing vacancies, but created communities of users. These sites have successfully created a platform where users can come and get useful information via discussion groups that can help them in their quest to secure the kind of jobs they need. is one of such numerous websites that have become communities by creating discussion fora. The site also has a look of simplicity, yet loaded with so much information that have been categorised into easily recognisable groups. Are you a job seeker? Are you thinking of looking online to see what jobs are trending and can suit your needs? Do you want a site that is easy to navigate? Then has all ready for you. 5. Nairaland.com Of course Nairaland is not primarily a job site, but loads of information you get on the site is more than enough of what some other sites offer. Keen observers know that Nairaland originally started as a discussion platform, but it has grown over the years to a vacancy listing platform. It has a forum dedicated to that purpose, hence users can among other activities carried on, on the platform still engage in searching for job opportunities. So, have you created your profile on Nairaland.com yet? If not, now is the time to do so. I can guarantee that you will get a lot more than enough on this site. I wish you all the best as you continue your job search. Did you find this article interesting and helpful? Let us all give a round of applause to Mr. Ben Murray-Bruce, Senator-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria an founding Chairman of the Silverbird Group. I have read his tweets and watched his speech. I must say it was heart warming to begin to see Nigerian public figures speak out on the real issues plaguing the country. That being said, and while we agree and applaud Mr Murray-Bruce, we must be very weary, lest we take this messenger as an epitome of the message he preaches. Who is Mr. Bruce? Well, I have known Mr. Bruce for over 20 years now. I am not close to him, but I know him loosely. This man managed NTA for 8 years. NTA was basically ran to the ground during this time. Mr. Murray was never wealthy before NTA. He lived in a modest house in Lagos. We all know that it was after he left NTA that he became rich despite his salary as DG being N200,000 per month on average while he ran the institution. He then went to establish the Silverbird group which has been fairly successful. I am not against being rich and successful. However, I am against those who steal public money and invest it in the businesses to make it look like they are wealthy from the business, and then turn around and say Nigerians public officials are corrupt. When your son is in the safety of LA playing around with all sorts of Los Angeles women. That is certainly not acceptable! He received part payment for a 33billion naira contract from Akwa Ibom without executing the job, not even a land excavation! Silverbird group received nothing less than $20 million from GEJ during the campaign. Our tax money went to this man called Murray-Bruce. Well congrats to him on his election. But Mr. Bruce we are not buying it. Only gullible Nigerians will buy it. In the meantime, enjoy views of his son “playing” in his $5million mansion in Los Angeles!

Politics › "How Muazu Sold 2015 Elections To Tinubu In A Secret Meeting" - Fayose by Surplus90(op): 12:37pm On May 13, 2015 |
Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti State Governor, has released more damning allegations against Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Fayose claims Mu'azu held a secret meeting with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, where he sold the 2015 elections to the APC. Fayose Spoke on Monday, May 11, 2015, during a programme on Channels TV titled: ‘View from the Top.’ “Shortly before my election, he (Mu’azu) was to see me and I waited for him in his house for about five hours and then he came out to say he was sorry and that we should give him space. He said the Yoruba people should give him some space because he was expecting someone who did not want to see any Yoruba man. “I left his house but kept a tab on him. His house is like a ring road and I came back to find out who had come to see him and the person was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. That is the truth. When I returned to his house, he told me that I should not be annoyed that it was Tinubu that came to visit him. I was worried because the Ekiti election was just five days away and I almost lost my breath. “The day the presidential election held, the chairman was not in the country. On the day the names of our candidates were to be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, our chairman was in Lagos, on his way to Singapore. “I was with President Jonathan on that day and I told him to call him. The President did not know that Mu’azu was in Lagos on his way to Singapore. Even when he traveled recently, he said he had a problem with his left hand and wanted to travel abroad for treatment. However, he called some people and told them that he had deceived the President. You must be consistent in character. I am saying everything on camera; let him come out to deny these allegations. I don’t want to be in a PDP where we have betrayers of all sorts,” Fayose said. Fayose had earlier urged the party’s national chairman to resign by emulating the British Labour Party leader, Ed Miliband, as well as Liberal Democrats leader, Nick Clegg, who resigned after their parties defeat at the polls. Mu’azu, while reacting to Fayose’s allegations, denied ever meeting Tinubu. He advised the Ekiti governor to pay more attention on governing his state rather than chasing shadows. http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/how-muazu-sold-2015-elections-to-tinubu-in-a-secret-meeting-fayose.111714/

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun, on Thursday said recent happenings in the country had shown that politics could be played peacefully. Oyegun said this while receiving a delegation of Former Governors Forum (FGF) at the APC national secretariat in Abuja. According to him, Nigerians should be proud as the outcome of the general elections had taught political leaders a valuable lesson, NAN reports. “The party would require the contribution of every single, well-intended head because the problem confronting us demands collective efforts to surmount. “Nigeria is going through a peaceful democratic revolution, all that is happening in the country at present shows that politics do not have to be war,” he said. He said APC would welcome a strong opposition in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to keep the incoming administration on its toes. He said “PDP is part of Nigeria’s history” and the APC would be glad to have a formidable opposition party. “For the PDP, they are part of the country’s history and history in the making. All they need to do is to go into retrospection. “We will be glad to have a virile opposition. We want the PDP to be strong enough to be able to keep us on our toes’’, Oyegun said. The former Gov. Jim Nwobodo of Anambra State, who spoke for FGF, said politicians should learn to embrace one another and support whoever emerged winner at any election. He expressed concern over the break-up of the Forum into two factions saying it was unnecessary. “Nigerian leaders should learn to eschew bitterness in politics and to support whoever emerges victorious at an election. “I really do not feel it is good for us to have two former governor’s forum. It is good to have a united body regardless of whichever party wins. “There is no reason to have two parallel bodies representing governors of the APC and the PDP’’, Nwobodo said. He pledged support for the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, whom he described as “humble and principled” adding that the FGF would support Buhari when he assumes office in May 29. Nwobodo also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for “his rare act of humility in conceding defeat at the polls thereby stemming the anticipated tension and crisis.’’ Former Gov. Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia said the parties in opposition will take up the challenge posed by Oyegun and provide a strong and virile opposition in the days ahead. Also present were former governors Balarabe Musa, Ahmed Markarafi, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Fidelis Tapgun, Niyi Adabayo and Chinwoke Mbadinuju. Also at the meeting were APC Women Leader, Hajia Ramatu Aliyu, National Auditor, Chief George Muoghalu, National Secretary, Mai Bala Buni, among others. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/oyegun-to-pdp-keep-us-on-our-toes/

Politics › You Can’t Use And Dump Me, Muazu Tells PDP Members [PM NEWS] by Surplus90(op): 12:00pm On May 03, 2015 |
Alhaji Adamu Muazu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Saturday told the members of the party that he would not resign despite the woeful performance at the 2015 general elections. The PDP National Chairman said this in reaction to calls for his resignation over the outcome of the 2015 elections in which the party lost the presidential as well as its majority control of National Assembly and state gubernatorial seats to the opposition All Progressive Congress for the first time in 16 years. In a statement on Saturday, Mu’azu faulted the call for his resignation and those of the National Working Committee arguing that the party should stop its penchant to use and dump its officials. “The developing culture of using and dumping has reached fratricidal proportions in the PDP and it must end. You cannot be changing Chairmen and NWC every year and still have cohesion which is a vital ingredient of winning. A good example occurred when we changed five Senate Presidents in eight years and produced calamity in the process, but for eight years we have had one senate president and produced harmony between the presidency and parliament. “It is also time to end the spate of in-fighting and blame games currently dominating the political discourse among our membership and the leadership. It will do no one any good. The present leadership has until next year to run their course. The party will then decide how to deal with the zoning of the next leadership and strategies for winning the 2019 elections.” Mu’azu said how to reinvent itself should be the preoccupation of the party now instead of indulging in blame game. “The elixir the Peoples Democratic Party needs to reinvent itself and retake power in 2019 instead of wasting time and energy mudslinging and blame gaming over the party’s failed bid to win a fourth consecutive presidential election victory.” According to him, stories spreading like wild fire in the social media about schisms in the PDP can only energise the incoming administration of the APC and its desire to kill the PDP. “But we can shock them with our usual resilience and ability to turn the tables particularly as they are already developing a tottering ineptitude in their transition progression to power. “Our game plan is to provide a virile opposition to the new government which we have already graciously given a lifeline by conceding defeat and avoiding a calamitous battle in the courts. “The international community have noted this great act of statesmanship on our part and we shall continue in this mode to show our commitment towards entrenching democracy in our country. “It is therefore time for our great party to reinvent ourselves, show great maturity and map out a strategy that will return us to power in 2019. “Despite losing our dominance in the National Assembly, our party has the largest number of experienced legislators in both chambers and will surely be calling the shots there. We will however help to reduce the imminent issue of learning process occasioned by the horde of inexperienced APC members in both houses because of national interest. “Great lessons to be learned from the outcome of the 2015 Elections are many and I have already mentioned this in earlier interactions with the media. “Lessons of candidate imposition, deepening of internal democracy in our party and other obvious lessons we need to learn for future guidance. It is so important for us to learn from what has happened. We must note that when the going gets tough, only the tough like the PDP can get going”, said Muazu. He added that defection to the APC by members of the PDP was the most stupid thing going on within our party at the moment. “Personally it does not worry me but I shudder at the wedge placed by the new ruling party banning the incoming troupes. It shows signs of how they will run the country from May 29 2015. It shows how they will not regard non APC Nigerians as part of their responsibility which will be a shame.” http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/05/02/you-cant-use-and-dump-me-muazu-tells-pdp-members/

Politics › Obasanjo Wasn't As Corrupt As Abacha - Ezekwesili Tells Aljazeera by Surplus90(op): 10:12pm On May 01, 2015 |
Obiageli Ezekwesili, Nigeria's former Nigerian Minister of Education, and former World Bank vice president for Africa has told Aljazeera that the Olusegun Obasanjo adminsitration in which she served wasn't as corrupt as the Sani Abacha regime. Ezekwesili who is also the co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign made the comment while speaking to Al Jazeera English. Questioned by Head to Head host, Mehdi Hasan about endemic corruption in Nigeria, Oby said her country has a “political class problem,” but refused to condemn her former boss and mentor President Olusegun Obasanjo, who ruled between 1999 and 2007. Under pressure by Hasan, she conceded Obasanjo was “aware of the elements of corruption, and it was his responsibility to tackle” them, but categorically denied he was corrupt himself. “Of course it [the government] was [corrupt]! [But] There was no way it could have been more corrupt than the government of Abacha,” she said, referring to the military dictatorship of Sani Abacha that preceded Obasanjo’s rule. Oby lamented that the government she was part of was not able to “succeed fully” in tackling corruption, and defended her own track record, saying she had not been “window dressing” for a corrupt regime and insisting - despite holding two ministerial positions in the Nigerian government, being an advisor to presidents and holding high office at the World Bank – that she was not a politician. Ezekwesili also told Aljazeera that Nigerian armed forces have committed human rights abuses in their fight against the violent group Boko Haram in the north of the country. “It clearly does have instances where human rights violations have happened,” she says. Ezekwesili's full interview will be aired in a new episode of Head to Head, come 1 May 2015 at 20.00 GMT on Al Jazeera English. http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/obasanjo-wasnt-as-corrupt-as-abacha-ezekwesili-tells-aljazeera.110984/
