Healthcare in the US is quite costly.
Cost of child delivery ranges from around $5,000 to over $10,000.
There is an estimate from a catholic hospital in newyork, which my friend researched and sent to me prior to our departure, as one of the cheapest in the US. Of course its not by any means substandard. I tried attaching the estimate here (in pdf) but it says its too large.
So we took-off straight ABV - JFK, but after staying in NY for a week, we changed our minds and moved to California. We stayed in our california friends house for a little while, then rented an apartment (in our friends name, cos the estate company will run a credit check and all that). But that’s by the way. Now to your question:

We used a county hospital, which is a government hospital (county is synonymous to local government). The private hospitals are more costly. You can walk into any county hospital and register to have your baby there. You'll find a county hospital in almost all the cities of the US. If you don’t have a health insurance or any health program, you tell them you want to do self-pay. You don't pay anything upfront. After the delivery, they’ll be sending the bills to your address. That’s all. Any child born in US soil is automatically a US citizen. We've already gotten our child's US passport and social security card.

There are also some health programs that you could use, like Medicare, Medicaid, MediCal, WIC etc. But I understand that if the immigration gets to know that you used these programs, you might have a hard time renewing your visa.

If you’d like to know some other specifics, please give me a shout. . .

Not everyone is destined to make it here, there are some people that were nothing down here ,but when they got to USA/CANADA it helped them to step up.(I know such people personally)On the other hand, not everyone is going to make it abroad, so weigh the odds and make a move whether here or there.

You can not book the appointment for her from here until she has paid the application fee at the closest UBA  branch office see steps to booking an appointment in link below . Some people use booking agents , but I will let others comment on that I have no experience with that system

If you are in naija , the British council will be the best starting point, they should know where to get the books as well. The sooner the better , cos the exam dates fill up fast.

if she is a US citizen , she has the recourse to file for a green card for her mum , if she does that her mum will find it quite difficult to get a visiting visa until the process is completed has the visiting visa does not allow immigrant intent . Very silly system but trust me does of us that are processing our green cards or have in the past know it is a very long thing , unless you are from a visa waiver country you have a long period of seperation from the filer ( unless of course you are a spouse or child to a US citizen which takes a shorter period)

Since the matter at hand is a visiting visa , the status of her child makes no difference as long as he/ she is not illegal. Please she needs to take all she can legally tender ( it is clearly stated on the website strong ties to home country) anything you can do to establish ties is not a waste. If they dont ask at least you know you were prepared.
