tpiander:the second to the last guy is to gospel rap in America what Ali Baba is to comedy. The last man is a very popular singer and pastor.i am surprised you do not know them |
Like many other Nigerian Christians, I grew up in a very strict and orthodox Christian environment. Wearing trousers for ladies were (and still is although not as strict as it was back then) practically outlawed. A guy wearing earrings in the church was like a homosexual man living in Zimbabwe. This were the things we grew up with , the very tenets we go absorbed into. In the church , 2 Corinthians 6:14 was more of a rule with no exception but in this present age where people are more passionate about gay rights than peace in the middle East, a torrent of changes have swept through the Christian community like the harmattan blowing from the Sahara across West Africa . While I would not delve into the argument of whether these practices are wholly justifiable or not, there seems to be a trend of double standards in the church . It is rather necessary to ask ourselves why the church frowns on tattoos and men wearing earrings and the occasional cliché 'unequally yoked with unbelievers', to mention a few but then the same people who sing edifying songs to us have these tattoos and body piercings. Am talking from lecrae who has tattoos and pierced ears to Deitrick Haddon Even our own Kingdom singers are not left out of this traditional anomaly. Tim Godfrey recently made a track with a secular artiste and has consistently featured secular artists in his videos. Also, Frank Edwards who hustled to take a picture with 2face at a concert sometime in February(oh you didn't know) has collaborated with MI, Oritsefemi and j martins. Is this a case of double standards, or are we now to turn a blind eye to this and then say 'see it doesn't matter what they do with their lives just be blessed with the wonderful ministrations from their lips?. We should not forget that the only thing that is universal is not football but TRUTH. You cannot bend it to your convenience. The truth doesnt change! How is it that the very second you get a tattoo or plait your hair(as a guy) or as in some other churches, leave your hair uncovered you are automatically blacklisted as a rebel but the same people who take us to lofty celestial heights are 'guilty' of these same 'sins' yet it is ignored. It reeks of moral negligence because a practice cannot be right in America or amongst our own local Artistes/Ministers and simultaneously be wrong in our local churches so who is wrong and who is right. If on one hand we say it is right to get tattoos or body piercings then why do Christians who do it in this part of the world get ostracised and victimised? If on the other hand it is wrong, then why do we ignore the fact that these ministers of God are doing the wrong things yet wave it off with 'forget his lifestyle just get blessed with his ministrations'. Let us not forget that these ministers not only show our their latest records , they show us their lifestyles and people get influenced by them. In this age and time, a man with data and an Instagram account could be more influential than a preacher with a table sized bible. Christianity has nothing to do with confusion and double standards so the sooner we clear the table and universally set things straight, the better for our collective Christian race. If not the church itself might be sending more people to hell than the devil himself.

if dis ever gets to court it could go either way...and if u look deep it will definitely end up in favor of d army guy...u knw y,because it was an accident, and accidents ve a reason for being called accidents-cause they happend without malice..moreso,they could score a very big point by asserting and proving that the accident occurred as a result of d collective failure of d school authorities and d govt to provide basic amenities lik speed brakes and pedestrian bridges in an EXPRESS road..let's face it,dis could occur again, even today..as long as d road is still like that..they lld prolly end up wit minimal damages |

“Wetin him dey find again? Him dey drag with him pikin mate… Old man wey no get brain, him brain don die pata pata.” “Anybody That Come And Tell You “Change,” Stone That Person” “Our people no dey born shildren wey dem no dey fit count Our men no dey born shildren throway for street. We no dey like the people for that side.” – Dame Patience Jonathan. If you were not privy to the source of the above statements, you would be forgiven to think I was quoting from a book on illiterate women still grappling with the issue of Nigeria’s unity. The above words were delivered by Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, at various campaign grounds from Cross River State to Kogi. She was on national TV when she made these statements. For the sake of those who don’t understand pidgin and poorly spoken English, the First Lady was taking direct shots at the All Progressives Congress’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari. She also reserved ungracious words for northerners when she suggested they mostly just have kids only to abandon them. In her worst display of why she should never ever have been seen near a First Lady let alone be one herself, Patience Jonathan has been on rampage embarrassing the presidency and indeed our country. It is a shameful sight to say the least. The only thing sadder than this is the fact that the authorities have looked on while the First Lady openly told her supporters to stone those who don’t tow the line of returning her husband, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as president. What have we done? What have northerners done? What was the sin in trusting the Jonathans with power in 2011 and why, despite paying with death to loved ones and displayed family members, did the First Lady believe taking shots at northerners would guarantee the return of her family to the Villa? Even if a place is reserved for some display of madness in politics, is such a place reserved for the office of the First Lady? Shouldn’t that office and whoever occupies it represent the best of Nigeria’s family values, kindness and decorum? Did we not have First Ladies, even under military governments, that were dignified in speech and in deed? Many will blame her lack of exposure for why she is who she is but that cannot be it, it is one thing to lack respect and be unenlightened, it is another to be unenlightened and to lack respect to boot. Dame Patience Jonathan is the embodiment of a badly educated woman who also doubles as an unenlightened woman who sees no wrong in inciting violence. We need not look too far to find examples of First Ladies who brought class and elegance to the privileged office. They may have their own faults but few people will fault the elegance and class of the likes of Maryam Babangida and Stella Obasanjo. Looking to use Michelle Obama as an example of who Mrs. Patience Jonathan should emulate may be asking too much. But if the First Lady does not know what is right and what not to say, especially on national television, does she not have media managers? Are they paid to urge her and her classless disrespectful self on or they are paid to make her look better? Even if they have given up on her getting better, would it be out of place for them to suggest she never appears on live TV? They could at least edit the unwholesome parts of her speech from the whole speech. If per chance the whole speech is unwholesome, would it not be better to make the speech available without its sound? That is, if the First Lady must be on television at all. One saw that one or two men in the president’s campaign team said they saw nothing wrong in the Patience Jonathan statements. Now, it is one thing to want to earn a living, it is another thing to live life as though living beneath one’s beliefs is a way to earn a living. Or would anyone say stoning those who don’t agree with them tallies with the belief system of any civilized person for that matter? Haba! Should we begin to accord honourary titles to cows just because we are desperate to feed off their meat? Let us call a spade what it is, Madam Patience Jonathan is a disgrace to Nigerian women. Our women have certainly got more class. |
we are left with that choice because we don't ve many good men in politics...and the men at the top are really self centred and corrupt..its not a surprise because that is how they got there |
written by Odigili Uche 2014 ushers in a new year which promises to be an eventful year for Nigerians. Apart from the already cliché 'this is my year' and 'I will get married this year' , what remains atop of the minds of most Nigerians (mostly politicians) is the presidential election that comes up on the 14th of February. After slugging it out at the primaries(actually only one of the candidates in actual sense did slug it out),our options have been limited to two somewhat combustible individuals-an incumbent who had no shoes and a retired general who has just one million naira in his account(or so his says). However, i and many Nigerians will agree that rather than the election boiling down to the best two candidates possible who can lead this great country out of the proverbial wilderness, we have rather been faced with the unpleasant inconvenience of having to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. As it is with the case of governorship elections in Nigeria, and in fact any other political election where the electorate before voting puts into consideration not that candidate who would not embezzle any public funds at all but the individual who would embezzle the least funds, we literarily hold the cards to our own future where the we must vote not who we think is the better candidate for our collectively progress but who we know(or think we know) will ultimately do less damage in the next four years. The incumbent, president Good luck Jonathan has overseen a country that has been plagued by corruption which although existed long before he became a politician spiraled out of control and became sort of a norm in his tenure. We have also been made to deal with insurgency as it has now become as common as hearing 'knockouts' and 'bangers' go off in the festive periods to hear that a market or motor park has been bombed in the north. Some pro-Jonathan will be quick to point out that president Jonathan is merely suffering from the success of emerging as the president in 2011 but it is rather appalling at the way in which he has handled the situation. Everything seems to be working against him at the moment and when we add up the drastic fall in oil price(which is not his fault by the way) and consequently the devaluation of the naira which could not have come at a worse time does not seem to help his re election bid, does it? On the other end of the stick, we have General Muhamadu Buhari, a retired general who ruled Nigeria in a military regime from 1983 to 1985 . after unsuccessfully running for the office of the President of Nigeria in 2003, 2007, and elections he has scaled through the APC primaries to emerge as the only opposition to President Jonathan in the race to become the president of the Federal republic of Nigeria. However a glance at his regime reveals a reign of terror which in the name of 'war against indiscipline' led to the an outright abuse of human rights, disregard of the judicial process and suppression of criticism. There are several reasons to believe Buhari is a very tribalistic individual. Is it by deeds? Here is a man who placed then president Shehu shagari under house arrest in a palatial mansion in ikoyi while he locked up Shagari's vice, alex Ekueme in kirikiri prison. Shagari like Buhari happens to be a Hausa/Fulani man while Alex Ekueme is an igboman. Also, a reflection of his words only serve to strengthen the belief that he is not only tribalistic but a religious bigot. In 2001 he said 'Allah Akbar:God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the sharia in the country'. Several questions have been asked, and rightly so too if a man of this nature and reasoning can successfully steer this nation without shredding it into small, untraceable bits. It appears that Buhari has been gaining support from some quarters not because they feel he deserves to be the president but because they want Jonathan out. They seem more of anti-GEJ than pro-GMB but it is certain Buhari would not mind as long they translate to votes. While the elections are expected to be free, fair and conducted in a transparent manner(yes some of us still believe that) it is the electorate that ultimately make a decision that is sure to affect the future of this country. It is our moral, civil and constitutional obligation to ensure that we vote but this time we do not vote for better man, rather we vote for the better evil. It is a shame that we have all been put into this tight corner and giving my opinion will be delving into the arena of conflict, something i have desperately resisted. The choice must be made and inevitably we are going to have to make it, sadly what we can best aim at is damage control. |
hi guys..am new here |
Although it might sound cliché, it is common knowledge that students are the wealth of any nation, the future of tomorrow and consequentially their education is the social responsibility of the country. To be educated is not just a right but also a duty. However, in the midst of dilapidated structures, an ancient academic system and a country literally begging for salvation, a simple education is simply not good enough, it just has to get better. Over the course of the past decades, several solutions have been brought to the table. In Nigeria, the strategy has been for school officials to frequently evaluate the performance of lecturers in their various institutions. The hope was that through a combination of feedback and pressure, the lecturers would improve or be replaced by someone better. While this has yielded a few positives, it has also been largely unsatisfying and this has ushered in the question of whether students should grade their lecturers or not. In order to reach a decision, it is wise to discuss the benefits of allowing students grade their lecturers as well as the dangers of implementing this policy. As unorthodox as it sounds, allowing students grade their lecturers could be that extra push needed to transcend Nigeria's academic system. While it is quite apparent that the students are the target audience of the lecturers, letting the students assess the lecturers gives the lecturers an insight of their minds, it shows these lecturers how much they have performed, how far they have being able to go and whether the learning environment has been conducive enough for learning. Also while this method appreciates and motivates lecturers that are largely hardworking and dedicated, it conversely exposes those who have not being doing well enough and by the basis of this method which seeks out not to condemn but to correct, it will make the lecturers adjust their teaching methods in other to ensure that the students who is their main priority are always in tune with their ideology. Lastly, it is trite that for every relationship to succeed there must be communication. Allowing students assess their lecturers bring them a lot closer to them and that makes the whole teaching process a lot more pleasurable. For example the students may not be particularly comfortable with a certain attitude of their lecturer and may not have any avenue to let that known, however with grading assessment in place the students can pass this across to the lecturers and that could be the starting point of positive changes in schools. However, allowing students grade their lecturers has its many downsides. First of all, there is a tendency for students to misuse this ‘power’ for their personal interests since they do not have the needed mentality to carry out an assessment without being bias towards lecturers. It is common knowledge that most students prefer lecturers who are lenient with them, hardly bothers them with assignment and are jovial with grade points. The students tend to see strict lecturers as people whose life mission is to frustrate them. If these students are now required to grade these two classes of lecturers, it is obvious that the first class will be portrayed in a more positive light. The students also stand a chance of being a victim too. There is a possibility of lecturers punishing students for giving them bad grades and this could be set in strife between lecturers and students. While this topic has been a subject of debate for such a long time, there has not seemed to be a consensus. While I feel that students should be given the chance to grade their lecturers, I am also of the opinion that this should done under intense supervision. Also there should be set and transparent parameters for grading such as punctuality, ability to exert discipline, how he uses his time etc. I also believe should be done in collaboration with the school authorities and other stakeholders in the educational system. Change is deliberate and as such a conscious effort should be made if we want to see the change we so dearly crave for manifested in our schools. |
As exclusively reported by NET in 2012, the once buoyant relationship between Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun and David ‘Davido’ Adeleke has run into stormy waters. Though the music stars have maintained relative peace in the last one year, they have once again resumed hostilities on popular social network, Twitter. Currently, the young pop stars are at loggerheads over what insiders say is a claim to superiority between ‘Wizzy’ and ‘Omo baba olowo.’ Both camps have taken sides, insults have been traded and subliminal messages thrown around; the tension between both artistes keeps threatening any air of peace left. The dispute between Wizkid and Davido, which have seen older Nigerian celebrities, Iyanya and Wale Gates trying to mediate, dates back to the parting of D’banj and Don Jazzy, as reported by The NET. First Blood It all started with the news of D’banj signing Davido to his DB Records back in May 2012 – the news turned out to be false, but this obviously didn’t go down well with the ‘other camp.’ ‘Davido was very close to Don Jazzy and the Mo’hits squad before they parted with D’banj. When Jazzy heard Davido signed with D’banj, he wasn’t entirely happy’, a close friend of both camps tells NET. Second Round’s On Me Don Jazzy is said to have immediately told Wande Coal (who mentors both Wizkid and Davido) to stop visiting Davido at his Lekki home. Davido, at the time, was still recording his debut album and had plans to collaborate with Wande and Wizzy on separate songs. When Davido contacted Wande Coal, the pop singer’s management asked for an exorbitant fee (reportedly N1.5m) for the collabo. Sources say Davido was keen to get it done, but his manager Asa Asika was having none of it. This ‘sudden policy’ led to a war of words between Asika and Wande’s manager Nana. The collabo never happened. Wande and Davido stopped talking to each other. Strike Three Davido moved on to record the much talked about duet with Wizkid. But when he sent the instrumental to the EME team, Wizkid, sources say, told them he couldn’t work with Davido on the song, saying the beat wasn’t up to standard and he didn’t want to lower his brand. Little did Davido know that it was his fight with Wande that made him (Wizkid) immediately take sides. ‘Wande is like Wizkid’s elder brother. Wizzy looks up to him a lot and anything Wande says, Wizkid will do. When Wande told him about what happened between him and Davido, he just took sides with him’ says our inside source. Davido, losing on both ends, scrapped both songs and even though it was a huge blow, he didn’t let it get him down. The disappointment is said to have inspired the first track on his album ‘All of you.’ Davido, well known for his boisterous attitude, laid it all out on the song, claiming to be better than ‘everyone’, referencing artistes such as 2face, Psquare and D’banj as his mentors, conspicuously leaving out the MAVIN and EME crew. The MAVINS seemingly responded by not attending Davido’s album launch, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites. ‘Davido doesn’t send Don Jazzy or them Banky W again, that’s what inspired that song. He believes they aren’t better than him, and to an extent, he does prove it’ said our source. As It Stands After the Don Jazzy-D’banj split, crew members decamped and spoils were taken. While Don Jazzy took pop singers Wande Coal, Dr SID, and rapper D’Prince, launching his MAVIN Records label with surprise signing Tiwa Savage, D’banj went the other way, with his younger brother Kay Switch. Other familiar friends like Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Davido, the HKN Gang and Mo’Hits hype man Special Ed readily affiliated themselves with D’banj. Cat And Mouse Game After all that happened in 2013, Wizkid and Davido sheathed their swords and then began the cat and mouse game. Davido’s HKN Gang continued working and soaring high, while Wizkid kicked off his StarBoy Entertainment even though he was still signed to EME. The pop stars tried to avoid each other most of the time and when it was unavoidable, they put up a façade to give the impression of a good relationship. Change Of Handlers Davido fell out with his cousins and fellow HKN team but later reconciled with them while Wizkid also reconciled with EME and signed on two acts in the United Kingdom. A few months after Davido parted ways with his manager, Asa Asika, Wizkid also parted ways with his manager, Osagie Osarenkhoe after their contract expired. Kamal Ajiboye immediately took over Davido’s management while his elder brother, Adewale Adeleke took over the running of the HKN Gang businesses. Meanwhile, Wizkid immediately employed the services of Godwin Tom as his manager. The two camps looked good to go and take on any team but the façade relationship remained, with Special Ed always claiming the two were cool. The Sesan Ogunro Part Unknown to many, the relationship between Wizkid, Davido and top music video director, Sesan Ogunro, also contributed to the ongoing battle for supremacy between the two. Earlier in the year, Sesan Ogunro shot one of the three videos for Davido’smonster hit, ‘Skelewu,’ but the video was leaked days before it’s official release, after which Davido went on a Twitter rant accusing the filmmaker of breaching terms of agreement. While Sesan, who is hardly drawn into the limelight except through the videos he made, cleared the air, Wizkid was quick to show his support for the talented filmmaker, throwing shade at Davido by praising the Sesan’s work and referring to Davido and his crew as ‘smellos.’ A few weeks later, Sesan shot Wizkid’s ‘Jaiye jaiye’ video, while Davido worked with Mr. Moe Musa on a new video. And They Grew In Leaps And Bounds Between 2013 and 2014, Davido and Wizkid amassed more affluence, fame and awards than their contemporaries and older colleagues. From Nigeria to other parts of Africa, Europe and America, the young men continued to conquer the world as their rivalry thickened. Winning awards from Hip Hop World awards to MOBO, NEAs, MAMAs and BET, the competition for the most superior between the two grew, as their rivalry got deeper. Just as they performed at tours and concerts across Europe and America, jealousy and envy became the order of the day and the dislike for one another couldn’t be quenched. Trouble once again reared its ugly head after Davido threw shade at Wizkid for allegedly parting ways with his old friends and buddies, Wizkid replied with his concert success, featuring Akon and Wale on stage at his New York show. The Twitter Rants Both Davido and Wizkid were quick to take to Twitter to express their mutual dislike, thereby kicking off a beef-trending week. Here are some tweets from the duo, despite claims that all is well between them. ‘Snitch. No wonder you are not rolling with your day 1 niggas,’ Davido ‘Thank you so much New York! Amazing show last night, big up @Wale and @Akon. Proper show, proper venue, boys talk, men work,’ Wizkid ‘Pull Half of my crowd before talking shit Nigga’ Davido ‘It’s all fun and game till somebody gets knocked out! Ask around, I got them hands!! You would always have a H factor, Smello…’ Davido ‘Done with all this shit!! Back to music…smooth sailing.. Tick tock’ Davido ‘Easy to type shit about somebody and put it on twitter, another thing wen you see face to face,’ Adewale Adeleke All ima say is it won’t be pretty niggas ain’t p***y but if you are willing to find out, we can take that route as well…’ Adewale Adeleke ‘ROTFLMAO…’ Wizkid Iyanya, Wale Gates Appeal To Warring Parties Following what seemed like a brewing battle between the two, older colleagues of the music sensations have decided to wade in. Iyanya and Wale Gates have tried to calm frayed nerves without calling any names. While Wale Gates used Twitter to reach out to the youngsters, Iyanya took to Instagram to preach about peace. |

Soyinka, Falana Blast APC For Visiting Babangida, Obasanjo, Others! Says It Is Clear They Only Want Power Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, Sunday, lashed out angrily at the patron-shopping strategy of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, suggesting that the strategy lacked moral focus, and had the feel of political prostitution. In a short email message, the professor of literature said he was triggered by media reports indicating that an “APC-led group …has been paying courtesy visits to former Heads of States,” prompting him to ask if the party had thought it through what disaster this would mean for the nation. Mr. Soyinka said the media report that stirred him to respond to the APC had these words: “Tinubu added that the APC had resolved to rescue Nigeria, appealing to Obasanjo to lead the mission. We’re resolved and determined to rescue Nigeria. We want you as navigator”. He then asked if the APC was truly comfortable that this represented its core principles. “Would it be correct to state that their purpose is captured in the following Mission Statement?” he queried, suggesting that an impending political disaster loomed before the nation, with grave humanitarian consequence. “If this attribution is correct, may I urge you, as an urgent public service, to advise families to begin the stockpiling of life-belts for the guaranteed crash. “Don’t forget to alert the coastguards – Ecowas, AU, UNO etc etc – to be on the alert for possible salvage operations.” Mr. Soyinka then hinted at the moral opportunism of the patron-shopping strategy by asking: “By the way, If General Sani Abacha were alive today, would he also have been on the ship’s complement? As Captain perhaps?” A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Femi Falana also has this to say; “I understand that one of the retired generals is going to become the chair of the Board of Trustees of the APC! This is a case of alienation from the people. How can APC leaders believe that Nigerians want Generals Obasanjo and Babangida to be rehabilitated after destroying the country? “The duo ruled for 20 years and ruined the country in the process. General Obasanjo has just confessed that he has been installing incompetent leadership since 1979. And he is not ashamed to make that provocative disclosure. Has he offered public apology for his maxima culpa before wooing him? “The situation is not different in a number of states and local council areas where the new PDP is busy taking over all the structures of the APC. Since the APC is positioning itself to retain the status quo it cannot become a truly progressive party.” http://premiumtimesng.com/news/151934-soyinka-blasts-apc-leaders-over-invitation-to-babangida-obasanjo-others.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=soyinka-blasts-apc-leaders-over-invitation-to-babangida-obasanjo-others |
