The fourth edition of the African Drum Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was once again an epicenter for Africa’s cultural wealth and glamour, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, was a beehive of events as it played host to troupes from within and outside the country. The fourth edition of African Drum Festival, a brainchild of the Ogun State Government, attracted contingents from Europe, about 27 African countries as well as troupes from 26 States of the country and 71 independent performers.

The venue this time was the 10,000-capacity amphitheater at Oke-Ilewo, in the heart of Abeokuta. Filled to its capacity, troupes armed with myriads of drums and artistic costumes, which depicted their ethnicity diversities, took turns displaying superlative cultural performances. The Festival, themed, ‘Drumming The Future,’ also featured the launch of the Ogun Adire logo, with its trade mark, the unveiling of the Kuti’s heritage house and a round table workshop at Olumo Rock. There was also a Train ride, tagged, ‘Rail, Reading and Ride,’ from Iju-Ishaga in Lagos to Lafenwa in Abeokuta and a performance by Seun Kuti, in honour of his father, the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

The Nigerian Army has redeployed the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Maj Gen Suleman Kazaure, and eight other generals in a major shake-up released on Friday from the army headquarters, Abuja.

Kazaure, the 17th NYSC DG, was redeployed to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, as a Senior Resource Person.

Horacio Sala, 58, passed away at his home in Progreso just three months after his son died on board a private jet flying from Nantes to CardiffEmiliano Sala's father Horacio has tragically passed away in Argentina after a heart attack.

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has dismissed as fake news reports making the rounds on social media that serving corps members will be paid N31,800 as monthly stipends following the signing of the new minimum wage into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

‘We rise by lifting others’ is a statement often sounded out in support of an individual in any sphere of life, it means you are wise enough to understand one of the principle that governs growing as an entertainer. As a big act, for everyone you help you get bigger especially if the person you’ve helped becomes successful. Some tend to bite the finger that may have fed them but a good number will always be grateful. It is not rocket science; it is a simple logic.

An artiste in the entertainment industry who has made the statement ‘we rise by lifting others’ synonymous with his brand is Davido, he not only uses the statement, he practices it. He has put on many artistes up for gigs, promotions and what have you without expecting a dime. Truth be told, how much would they even have to offer Davido for a collaboration? He doesn’t go first for the money; he just wants to promote you as we have seen several times especially in recent years. The male entertainers may beef each other’s progress or try to hinder another artiste getting into their space or the selling point of their brand, like a particular style of music or an upcoming comedian with an idea of a kind of comedy show, but it is very limited.

Female entertainers always try to guard their territories more in their specific crafts like we see with the silent war between Beyonce and Rihanna or the Cardi B and Nicki Minaj much publicly documented feuds. In Nigeria, female entertainers have taken it to another level by trying to block others part to success or try to bring them down. The biggest female artistes hardly put each other on for collaborations or invite themselves to perform at their shows, they find it easier to do this with guys and this may be a result of the natural ego experienced amongst females at all levels even outside the entertainment industry.
