This is coming nine months after Olakunrin was attacked between Kajola and Ore on the Ondo- Ore Road in Ondo State on July 13, 2019 , while travelling in a black Toyota Highlander SUV . Other vehicles were also ambushed and several persons , including Olakunrin’ s driver , were kidnapped , but were later rescued . Her murder stoked tension in the South- West and subsequently hastened the establishment of a regional security outfit codenamed , Amotekun , by governors in the region . The Afenifere spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin , had on April 7 , 2020 , said in a statement that four suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder . THOSE with more than 5,000 in their bank accounts will not partake in the palliatives being planned by the Federal Government to mitigate the effects of the lockdown extension, the government clarified on Wednesday. The clarification was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouq, in a chat with reporters at the State House in Abuja. Explaining the modalities for the disbursement of the package, the minister said her ministry will focus on the urban poor in the implementation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive. She said: “You are aware that the President in his broadcast of Monday, 13th April, directed that we expand the beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer by one million and in this regard, we are going to focus more now on the urban poor. “These are people who depend on the informal sector to earn their livelihood; they are daily wage earners and these are the people that we are really going to focus more on as well as people living with disabilities.” On how her ministry plans to pick beneficiaries, the minister said: “Well, we have three options; one, we are going to use the national social register that we already have; two, we are also going to focus on the urban poor as I mentioned, by using their verified BVN accounts to get them, that is, people that have an account balance of N5, 000 and below. “We are also using the mobile networks to know people that top up the credit units for their phones with may be N100 or less. Those are also people that we consider to be poor and vulnerable. So, these are the three options we are exploring and I am sure that by the time we get this data, we will be able to give this intervention.” https://thenationonlineng.net/palliatives-not-for-nigerians-with-more-than-n5000-bank-balance/

The governor noted that Ondo state would only be interested in ranches, which could even create employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the state. Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State has kicked against the proposed Ruga settlements for herdsmen across the country. Akeredolu said the Ruga settlements, initiated by the federal government cannot be in the interests of Ondo state as the lands in the state had been earmarked for forest reserves and agriculture. The governor noted that Ondo state would only be interested in ranches, which could even create employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the state. He spoke while responding to a tweet on his official Twitter handle @RotimiAkeredolu on Tuesday, stressing that Ondo state already has two expansive lands used for ranching in Akunnu and Auga Akoko. "Our stance on the Ruga settlements debate is clear. Ondo is only interested in ranches. We have 2 large ranches existing in Akunnu and Auga. "Auga can accommodate 5,000 cows. A key difference here is that we have no preference for who manages the cattle. The ranch owners decide. ”Primary reason for #RugaSettlements although understandable does not truly factor the interests of every State. We have a youth unemployment crisis our ranches can address. Ondo State must prioritize agriculture due to the arable nature of our land. ”A lot of our land is already earmarked for forest reserves. The FG must understand why we need to be strategic in our decision making. "We implore the FG to revisit the proposal based on feedback from the different States & act accordingly," Akeredolu said on his official Twitter handle. https://citadelng.com/we-have-ranches-to-cater-for-over-5000-cows-no-need-for-ruga-settlements-governor-akeredolu/

Ondo State government has accessed $37 million out of $50 million loan approved by the World Bank under the Nigerian State Health Investment Project (N-SHIP) to address the challenges facing the health sector in three states in the country. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, and the Special Adviser to the governor on Health, Jibayo Adeyeye, who disclosed this at the weekend during a seminar on how to sustain the health sector financing, said two other states – Adamawa and Nasarawa – benefitted from the World Bank loan. The Executive Secretary, the state Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, said about 600 Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the 18 local government areas of the state under the N-SHIP in order to reduce maternal and child deaths in the state. However, Adeyeye said the World Bank programme, which began in the state in 2014, would wind down next year,. This, according to him, is giving the state concern on how to maintain the health scheme which has led to the rehabilitation of many health centres in the state. To sustain the performance base financing project beyond the time World Bank would be withdrawing; Adeyeye said government has put together the Ondo State Contributory Health Scheme. He said: “N-SHIP will be winding down in 2020 in Ondo State. There is need that we sustain the scheme. The Health Insurance Commission has been established by the law of Ondo State House of Assembly. The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, is leaving none in doubt of the fact that he’s in government for serious business. The governor has delivered no fewer than 45 kilometer of roads in the last 18 months across the three senatorial districts of the State. In his less than 3years of governorship, Akeredolu has already littered the the face of the state with beautiful projects. From the south through the central to the northern senatorial districts of the sunshine state, the governor works wonders. The government of Ondo State under Akeredolu has done a number of many other road projects that are still undergoing construction. In Ondo North Senatorial District, the commissioner listed projects completed to include the 2.5km Jubilee Ugbe road; 1.5km Supare (Oke Afaa) road and 27.5km Iwaro road. This is apart from the reconstruction of the collapsed three major culverts in Ikare-Akoko. Others are 2.5km Hewlet, Ogbo Omo, Igbadara and Ayegunle road in Ifon. Also completed are the 2.5km internal roads in GRA, Owo; the dualization of adjoining roads in Owo is almost completed. On the planned dualization of 4.3km Ikare township road, 7.1km road in Owo and the 7.8km Akure-Ijoka-A Divison road, the Special Adviser said valuation of the properties across the roads had reached advanced stage. These include Iyere – ipele – idoani road; access road in Powderize egg factory at Emure; parking lot at Akure airport; construction of Ondo Boys High school internal road network; dualisation of CBN road, akure; construction of Subeb Sijuade road, akure; repair of approach slabs of Alape & Aboto bridge in ilaje. The government partnered with NDDC and has just awarded 40km Araromi (ondo state) – Lekki (Lagos state) road. It has also awarded Idanre to ijoka is 16km & dualisation of A Division to ijoka is 8.14km. The Oke -Alabojuto /Ikare dualisation road project is a wonderment for which the northern constituents of the state has continued to hail the governor. Yet, the works continue unabated across the state. Projects to include the 1.5km Abusoro road in Akure; 2.0km Iwalewa-Alafiatayo-Hospital-Oshinle road in Akure. Also completed, according to the governor’s aide, is the 3km Okelisa and Bajare roads in Idanre; Ongoing ones to include Oke-Ogba road in Akure, Alagbaka-High Court-SIB road also in Akure; Gaga road in Aluke; Igbaraoke-Ibuji road; Isharun township roads and Bolodunro-Fagbo road in Ondo town. Fiwasaye-Airport street light project is also ongoing. Sabomi-Ajagba road was 95% completed, while work is ongoing on Police Station road in Ore. Work has also reached 97% completion on Okitipupa-Ayeka-Irele road. If Akeredolu continues this way, many among the people will benefit from the people – oriented projects for which he has now become very popular with the people of the state. In recognition of the infrastructural works he’s doing in the state which has attracted huge luster and acclaim, we hail and confer the award of the Doyen of Democracy on him. https://citadelng.com/akeredolu-turning-ondo-state-around/
