A religious grounding is good however you will find that the Christian paradigm is mainly redemptive in nature, although that it not what it set out to be. You will not find contained in their scriptures the tenets of self-realisation, attainment of gnosis or enlightenment. In order to begin to learn about spirituality you have to learn about the universal Divine nature of things, you have to shift your gaze from a "global God" as it were, to a universal Divinity. I always tell anyone starting out on the quest of self-discovery to begin by learning how to meditate first. It is the gateway.

There are mantras you can chant exhaustively that will reveal your destiny, there are magical rituals that can be performed to achieve the same, on the flip side of course, you may be better off simply not knowing.
