An inmate caused a mild farce at the Owerri High Court after a judge acquitted him of all charges against him but he refused and demanded to go back to prison. Instead of the usual jubilation that follow any ruling of ‘discharged and acquitted’, it was gathered that the inmate in question, was wearing a long face, headed straight for the Prison van that brought them to court, only to be intercepted by a prison guard who reminded him he was free to go home. To the chagrin of eyewitnesses, he said he was going nowhere demanding to be allowed entry into the Prison Van back to prison. The prison guard who mistook his statement for a weird joke was jolted when he tried to push him away from the prison van and was defiantly resisted by the freed inmate. What seemed like a mild drama turned nearly absurd when the calm of the court premises was shattered by the freed prisoner’s shouts and pleas to be allowed to go back to prison and he thrashed about and struggled with several prison officials who wanted him out of the court and on his way home. According to eyewitnesses, it took the effort of over six prison officials, court workers and policemen to get the freed inmate out of the court premises. He refused to budge even in the face of threats of brutality by security men, had to be dragged on the floor while he raised hell in the court premises. Outside the prison, he kept telling whoever cared to listen why he should be allowed to remain in jail. According to him, setting him free was no big deal, but his plight outside prison is what the court should have also considered. He Said, “I have no place to go or anybody to go to. I have no job or business. I want to go back to prison where I can at least be sure to eat something everyday.” The evidently apprehensive former prison inmate, demanded to see the Chief Judge of the state to plead his case himself and explain to him why it was better to keep him in prison than outside prison. Slightly after mid-day, when sources went to check the outcome of the agitation of the former inmate, nobody seemed to know what became of him and his demands to be taken back to jail or to the state Chief Judge. http://newsnigerians..com/2013/07/man-refuses-to-leave-prison-after-been.html

Just as you rightly said, you are putting the cart before the horse. First thing first, make sure you graduate with a good grade (minimum of 2.1). I am a geologist in the Oil and Gas Sector and must confess that it is one of the most rewarding Oil and Gas careers. Attempt at getting a Job with ur 1st Degree. Your company's operations and ur job function will help show u a path-way. I had a B.Sc in Geology and M.Sc in Petroleum Economics though I currently work as a Geophysicist. |
Growing up in a church my parents and I attended, I saw many people dedicate their cars and I was wishing and Praying that one day i will buy and dedicate mine. Several years after God blessed me with a good job that took me away from Lagos where I grew up to Benin City. Soon after I bought a car. I did nt feel like dedicating it in church cos I later saw it as show-off. The man that helped me secure the car is a pastor in RCCG. He blessed the car for me and I drove it away to Benin.I have been driving the ride now for almost 6yrs and no issues. It all depends on what u believe in. If u dnt want to dedicate it in church u can call on a good Man of God to bless it for you.BUT YOU SURE NEED A MINISTER OF GOD TO BLESS THE CAR FOR YOU though not neccesarily in church. |
ifowey: I have a B.sc in geology and i am waiting for nysc(batch c). Can some one please throw more light on any additional certification i need to get in order to work in the oil and gas sector. I graduated with a 2.2, and i am not very happy about it.As a fresh Geology graduate what would have really put you in a good position to secure a job in the Oil and Gas sector is a good grade (2.1 or 1.1). There are Seismic interpretation softwares like Petrel, Landmark, Kingdom Suites etc. These you can usually acquire when u are already in the industry. What employers want from Trainee Geologists is a good basic knowledge of Geology and not certifications.(This is where Geology differs from Engineering). All hope is not lost anyways. |

^^^ Which tribalism. Abegi because no Yoruba player abi? To topic: I like the selection, just that i feel the Uche brothers ought to be in that selection based on their current form. I am really very excited about the inclusion of Uche Nwofor, that kid is hot and is just 21yrs old. I believe Shola Ameobi also has a lot to offer in the area of experience and motivation. I would also loved to have seen Victor Anichebe but his exclusion is understood. For the CHAN Eagles i think youth internationals like Olanraweju Kayode and Abdul Ajagun should be invited. They have a lot to offer and also for pregression and developmental purpose. |

Seven African countries make the Globalfirepower.com Military Strength list; we take a look at the countries on the list and at the factors that make them forces to be reckoned with. The website Global Firepower ranks 68 countries by their military strength in 2013. Seven African countries made the list. Global Firepower did not include Uganda on the list, but that nation’s army has played a key role in African peacekeeping forces, and is said to have one of the well-trained armies on the continent. We take a closer look at the seven countries and why they are considered the largest military powers in Africa. 1) Egypt Egypt is the first African country to make the list in 14th place. The Egyptian military has four main service branches: the army, navy, air force and air defense command. According to Global Firepower Egypt has more than 800 military aircraft and 200 helicopters. The Egyptian navy also reportedly has two Corvettes and four submarines in addition to various other vessels. One of the reasons Egypt ranks so highly is due to the support from international allies - in many instances this support takes the form of equipment. The US provides Egypt with military assistance annually in order to promote stability on the continent; they reportedly provided $1.39 billion in 2013. Egypt has in turn provided support to their allies on the continent, helping to train their armed forces; however Egypt’s main military focus has been on the Middle East, rather than Africa. According to reports the Egyptian military also controls large portions of the economy, the number has been put as high as 40%. 2)Ethiopia Ethiopia's military is made up of an army and an air force, the nation has the second strongest military on the African continent as a result of both their large population and their long independence from colonisation. Earlier this year it was reported that the Ethiopian military had developed their first drone (unmanned aerial vehicle); a military technology most often associated with the United States. The country's active involvement in international peacekeeping efforts in various conflicts all over the continent has also honed their defense force. As of 2012 Ethiopia reportedly had around 150 000 personnel in their ground forces and a further 3000 air force personnel. Global Firepower reports that they have just over 300 tanks, 147 aircraft and 68 helicopters. 3)South Africa The South African National Defence Force is comprised of the South African army, navy and air force, as well as a military health service. According to Global Firepower the country's arsenal includes 250 tanks, 240 rocket projectors, 235 aircraft and three submarines. While South Africa has one of the smaller armies on this list in terms of personnel, they are considered the most advanced military in terms of technology. Before the end of Apartheid South Africa had developed nuclear weapons, and despite destroying them, there is still a weapons development industry in SA. The country is now starting to take a more active role in international peacekeeping efforts on the continent, but the recent tragedy in Central African Republic has shone a spotlight on the weaknesses of the the SA armed forces. 4)Nigeria The Nigerian Armed Forces are made up of close to 500 000 personnel, split between the army, navy and air force. They are very active in combined peacekeeping efforts on the continent. According to Global Firepower Nigeria has 363 tanks, 294 aircraft and 84 helicopters. The Nigerian army in particular has been active internally, primarily in the north of the country. The army has been criticised for their heavy-handed manner in dealing with civilians in their conflict with Boko Haram. The Nigerian navy also has four corvettes. The strength of the armed forces has been a result of the contentious nature of Nigerian politics since independence. There were 10 military coups in Nigeria between 1966 and 1999 and there was also a civil war between 1967 and 1970. The budget is $3.7 billion 5)Algeria The Algerian military is known as the People's National Army. The force is both large, with more than 120 000 active personnel, and well equipped. They are supplied mainly by Russia and China. The military is comprised of an army, navy and air force. Algeria's military has an impressive tally of 1050 tanks according to Global Firepower. They also reportedly have 148 rocket projectors, 409 aircraft, 136 helicopters, three Corvettes and three submarines. The Algerian army is believed to be very involved in domestic politics; this may be as a result of there being nothing much for them to do as they have not been involved in any international conflicts since 1976. Earlier this year in January, Algerian troops were involved in a botched operation to free hostages held at the Sahara gas plant. While 32 of the hostage takers were reportedly killed the death toll of hostages was higher, with some reports stating 48 were killed. 6) Kenya Kenya Defence Forces, as the East African nation's military is known, is comprised of an army, navy and air force. With only 24 120 active personnel it is one of the smaller forces on the continent; however the nation's strategic location means the Kenyan military has been highly active since its inception. It is supplied by the US, and has a budget of around $800 million. According to Global Firepower, Kenya has 186 tanks, 12 rocket projectors, 148 aircraft and 78 helicopters. Kenya's military has been involved in several UN peacekeeping missions in Africa and Europe. They have also worked closely with Somalia's military in order to take on Al-Shabaab and have joined The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to further aide their cause. 7)Libya Historically Libya had one of the largest military forces on the continent, but following the Libyan revolution in 2011 the previous army was disbanded and the Libyan National Army was created. The Libyan military currently has between 35 000 and 40 000 personnel. Their equipment arsenal remains impressive as they inherited the equipment from the former army the Armed Forces of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. The current force is made up of ground forces, an air force and a navy. According to Global Firepower they have 500 tanks, 800 rocket projectors, 621 aircraft, a frigate and a Corvette.
