CelebritiesSeven Steps To Consider When Establishing A Record Label In Nigeria by Synord(op): 11:03am On Feb 06, 2018
The Nigerian music industry is one of the
biggest and many have tagged the industry a
multi- billion dollar industry. In recent years , the
revenue been generated from the music
business in Nigeria has increased exponentially
just as Nigerian music is gaining worldwide
acceptance and support .

Without an iota of doubt, record label play a vital role in the achievement of this feat as they are the ones
who harness and promote these talents thatblossomed into superstars and are doingNigeria proud continentally and internationally e . g. ( Wizkid and Empire Mates Entertainment )

In line with this , the establishment of a record
label can sure be a profitable investment for
anyone that wants to venture into the music
world . However , in successfully establishing a
record label in Nigeria , certain things must be
considered and steps followed .

1) A Business Plan

Memorandum and articles of association , the
aims and objectives , vision and mission , type
of artistes to sign , type of contracts to sign for
artistes and many more constitutes the plans
of a record label . A proper business plan helps
streamline the goals and defines the path on
which the record label treads . An example is
the G - Worldwide label policy where the signed
artists are not allowed to collaborate with other
artists outside the label .

2) Funding

Funding is very essential for a record label to
function. In fact, money is the bedrock of any
successful label . Money is needed to promote
the label ’ s artist, shop for the wardrobe of the
artistes and buying one or two studio
equipment amongst others . Since revenue
wouldn ’ t be generated immediately the label
starts, the label needs cash to function and not
pack up along the line . The sum of three
million naira is not a bad idea .

3) Registration

After drafting a business plan and getting
enough funds , the next step in establishing a
record label in Nigeria is to register the label
with the Corporate Affairs Commission . This
ensures that the label is given the status of a
legal entity which can sue and be sued in that
capacity . Registration of the label allows the
label to carry out valid transactions without fear,
execute contracts with their artistes , the
copyright of the artist and every material
emanating from the label is protected and the
company’ s name and logo is exclusively
restricted. Registration with the CAC should
cost between Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand
Naira and Five Hundred Thousand Naira .
Without been duly registered , any transaction
conducted by the music label is void .

4) Recording Studio

In order to save costs and motivate the signed
artists to give in their best , it is advisable that
a record label establishes a well - equipped
recording studio for artistes signed to the
label. A standard studio should gulp between
Five Hundred Thousand Naira to Two Million
Naira .

5) Human Resources

Human resources is very essential in setting up
a record label . For a label to properly function ,
the workforce and staff motivation goes a long
way in reflecting on the artiste success and
consequently the label’ s success. Human
resources include the PR/publicity which
handles the public image of the artistes and
the label , inform the public of their shows ,
tours as well as promoting the artiste . The
sales team ensures that the songs and
materials from the label makes physical and
digital sales through interaction and negotiation
with marketers and online sale sites. There is
also the logistics team concerning shows ,
travelling of artistes , bookings for interviews
and more . It is in the logistics team that the
artist manager belongs to , serving as an
intermediary between the artist and the label .
The A & R team handles the discovery of new
talents to sign into the label.
With a recording studio , the label will also
need a music producer and sound engineer to
handle the music aspect of the label , which is
the major ‘ raw material ’ which they must
manufacture and generate income from. Finally ,
a legal team to handle court cases in case of
clashes between the artist and the label , draft
contract for the artistes and also handle
endorsement deals for the label and artist
therein.

6) Signing an artiste

Having fulfilled all these other necessary steps
listed above, the next step for the record label
is to sign an artiste that matches the record
label goals and drive . This is the work of the A
& R team. They look out for rising stars in the
industry that can successfully recover any
money that the label spends on them as no
business wants to make loss . Signing a good
and marketable artiste is a very vital step in
the formation of a record label .

7) Creating hype for your artiste

Now the record label is all set , all that is left
for the continued existence of the label is for
the label to continue promoting the artistes in
the label . With time , proper planning, promotion
and development, the label is bound to be at
the top of their game with top notch artists ,
sold out shows at the same time raking in
millions.

Music/Radio5 Trending Topics For January In The Nigeria Music Industry by Synord(op): 10:53am On Feb 01, 2018
The Nigerian Music industry has started off on a good note. Many critics and music lovers have opined that the year is going to be a major one for the industry in terms of revenue, international acceptance and discovery of emerging talents. January 2018 brought some memorable happenings in the industry and we will take a look at some of the major happenings in the industry during the course of January.

The SoundCity MVP Awards
The Sound city MVP Awards was held on the 12th of January 2018 in Lagos. The Soundcity MVP award was a major event in the Nigerian entertainment circle for the month of January and the event recognized artistes like Davido who won the artiste of the year and song of the year, Maleek Berry winning the Best New Act and Sarkodie and Runtown carting home the award for best collaboration courtesy of the hit Single – Pain Killer. The prestigious awards was however not without it’s controversies, from Diamond Platinumz supposedly undeserved award of Best Male MVP, To CDQ dissing MI Abaga’s Call for rejuvenation of hip hop during his performance at the event and then the tweet fight and diss between Kiddominant and Young John over the producer of the year Award. Kiddominant has since apologized to the organizers of the award.

Burna Boy
Damini Ogunu popularly known as Burna Boy dropped his third studio album titled Outside on the 26th of January 2018. The album which was preceded with hit singles like GBA, Rock your body, Deja Vu, Konibaje and Heaven’s Gate ft Lily Allen was released under Atlantic Records. Boasting of productions from Leriq, Puffytee, Chopstickz and P2J, the 13 track project with contributions from JHus and Lily Allen and standout tracks like Giddem, the Fela inspired Afrobeat anthem Ye, Outside, City vibrations and one of the tracks submitted for the Drake More Life Playlist, combines and masterfully blends different genres of music like reggae, afrobeats, trap, hip hop and rock. It can be said that Burna Boy has dropped a major contender for the album of the year award through this album. Worthy of note is the fact that the police case with fellow artist, Mr 2kay also appeared to have been settled amicably as the issue led to the cancelation of his concert in December 2017.

Shaku Shaku Dance
After the shaku shaku dance came into limelight with the smash hit track titled “Legbegbe ” by DReal featuring Idowest, Obadice and Kelvin Chukz, the dance became a viral sensation, causing frenzy at parties and social events and the dance style was the inspiration behind most singles released in late December 2017 and January this year as artistes tailored their songs to accommodate the shaku shaku dance. From Olamide Wo’s to Dammy krane Shaku shaku, Dbanj’s Issa Banger and Reminisce Lalakukulala, The shaku shaku dance is currently the hottest dancestep in the country. With endorsements from top acts like Wizkid, Wande Coal and hundreds of viral videos of dancers showing their shaku shaku skills, it can be said that shaku shaku is here to stay.

Olamide’s Science Student
Olamide’s Science Student is one of the biggest singles of 2018 already. The song which has generated controversy for promoting and encouraging drug abuse among youths has gathered massive downloads. The Bbanks and Young John produced tune is already on its way to be one of the biggest songs of the year despite the ban by NBC. The song which centers on drug users and alcohol addicts is laced on a shaku shaku inspired beat as Olamide playfullys hails the people as science students in the song.. The song has received massive love and acceptance from fans.

Kiss Daniel and G-Worldwide
While entirely not a fresh issue, the Issue which started late last year has been a subject of discussion in the Nigerian music industry ever since then. Kiss Daniel left the label amidst claims of breach of contract by G-Worldwide Entertainment. The artist who has gone ahead to float his new record label “FLY BOI” Entertainment released the new Single “No Do” via the label. With accusations and counter accusations by both parties, we look forward to what becomes of the legal tussle and the new course that will be charted by the star act especially as the expiration of the deal will now enable kiss Daniel to feature other artists. His recent efforts “YEBA and “NO DO” are getting massive rotations across the country.

Celebrities5 Musical Collaborations We Hope To See In 2018 by Synord(op):
The 2018 Nigerian music industry promises to
be exciting and filled with entertainment as the
year 2017 ended on a high note wherein a
sizeable number of well organized , crowd
pulling and unforgettable musical concerts were
held and a lot of reconciliation occurred with
the likes of Mo’ Hits coming back together to
perform at Davido ’ s 30 billion concert and
Davido and Wizkid bringing each other out at
their individual concerts .

As the year begins in full force, we take a look
at some of the most anticipated musical
collaborations we hope to see in the year
2018.

Tekno and Drake
Tekno aka Slimdaddy in late 2017 posted a
picture with Drake. Drake also posted a picture
of Tekno working in his studio and another
picture of him discussing with Tekno in which
he captioned “ Tekk Time ” . From all
indications , Tekno who is currently signed to
Columbia Records might be cooking another
chart topping single with OVO himself and
judging with the response towards Drake
previous works with Nigerian afrobeats star,
Wizkid on One Dance and Come Closer, we are
sure the Tekno and Drake collaboration will be
FIRE .

Wizkid and Davido
After a series of twitter beefs and disses
between the two stars during the course of
2017, the two superstars finally decided to
bury the hatchet when Wizkid brought Davido
out on stage as a guest act at his concert in
Lagos. Davido reciprocated by bringing Wizkid
out at his own 30 billion concert days later and
music lovers and critics were finally assured all
is well between the two when they exchanged
pleasantries at the One Lagos Music fiesta . As
the two forerunners of the Nigerian music
scene have settled any form of
misunderstanding between them , Nigerians are
eagerly anticipating the two stars to show their
musical prowess on a track together and give
us the much awaited collaboration Davido
promised us after winning the MTV MAMA
African artiste of the year award in 2014 .

Mo ’ Hits
One of the biggest highlights of the 2017
entertainment scene in Nigeria was the
performance of the entire Mo ’ Hits crew for the
first time since their split in 2011 . D ’Banj went
ahead to post a picture of himself and Don
Jazzy on his Instagram , same with Wande Coal
posting a video of their performance and then
Don Jazzy tagging Wande Coal and D ’ Banj in a
tweet response to Wizkid ’ s question of how the
song – booty call was made. All seems well
between the former label mates and with
rumours gaining round, it appears we should be
expecting a fire track in 2018 from the crew
that gave us hits like Pere, Close To You and
Booty Call.

Kiss Daniel and Others
While under the management of G - Worldwide
Records, talented act and Woju crooner, Kiss
Daniel was restricted from collaborating with
other artistes in the music industry except his
label mate, Sugarboy and despite this clause ,
he has been able to drop so many hit tracks
singlehandedly . However in late 2017 , Kiss
Daniel pulled out of G - Worldwide and created
his own record label called Fly Boy Inc . The
creation of the label gave Kiss Daniel a new
level of creative control and restored his ability
to collaborate on fire tracks with other dope
acts in the music industry. With a track with
Wizkid already in the picture , we cannot wait to
see how Kiss Daniel fares in his collaborative
efforts in the industry.

Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage
The two queens of the Nigerian Music industry
have been doing the country proud in Africa
and beyond. The two female acts were
nominated for the best female acts in almost
all major awards held in the continent in 2017 .
While the two artistes have repeatedly stated
that they do not have an ill feeling towards
each other, fans are anticipating a collaboration
between the two vocal power house and
leading African female stars in 2018.

Celebrities10 New Producers To Watch Out For In 2018 by Synord(op): 5:45pm On Jan 25, 2018
The Nigerian Music industry is a meeting
points of different talents – from the artistes ,
to the promoters, to the marketers , the sound
engineers , the producers and all other
personalities involved , it can be said that it is
difficult for the industry to function effectively if
one arm is totally independent of the other
arms.

Producers are one of the major
stakeholders in the music industry and it is
necessary that the new talents are allowed a
place in the industry to learn and complement
the established acts in order to maintain the
needed fluidity in the music production aspects
of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
While the year 2017 brought us talented
producers like Krizbeats , Sessbeats and other
talented producers , currently making waves , we
take a look at ten new music producers that
are ready to take over the music industry in
2018;

Cheekychizzy

label, D ’ banj signed Cream platform winner –
Cheekychizzy as a replacement into DKM
Records. He worked on D ’banj ’ s King Don

With songs like Collide , Confess and
International Local to his name as a solo artist,
Cheeky is effectively functioning as a producer
and artist and is definitely one to watch out for
in 2018 .

Spotless
Spotless is another budding and unsigned
producer that is set to take over the
entertainment industry. With production credits
to Mama by Tekno ft Wizkid and L . A . X’ s Call
My Baby, we await what Spotless has to offer
the industry in 2018 .

Killertunes
Killertunes who was previously associated with
Bang Music was recently signed to The Cap
music owned by DJ Spinall . Since then , he has
been on a steady rise and has produced a lot
of hit singles including Kiss Daniel ’s Yeba and
Sofa, Wande Coal’ s Funke, D ’ banj ’ s Focus and
Wizkid’ s smash hit Manya . Wizkid has hinted
about a heavy takeover from the young
producer.

Bizzouch
Signed to Aquila Records, Bizzouch is
responsible for hit singles such baseone
Ronaldo, showcase by Aquila records, L . A . X ’ s
Gwara Gwara and Airboy’ s Ayepo remix ft
Burnaboy . Definitely one to watch out for in
2018.

Ckay

Choc City in house producer and artist has
proven to be one of the promising acts to
watch out for in 2018. With production credits
on Dice Ailes ’ Miracle, Your Fada by MI ft Dice
Ailes , Gaddemit ft Dremo and the self - produced
Nkechi turn up , it is safe to Ckay is about to
seal a place in the industry this year.

Oscar
Oscar is most prolific in producing songs in
the alternative genre . He is responsible for
producing Adekunle Gold’ s O rente and Simi’ s
Joromi. He is also responsible for producing
most songs off the critically acclaimed debut
album of songstress Simi titled Simisola.

Artistes cum producers 2tboyz are one of the
foremost street music ambassadors . With the

signed to Davido ’ s DMW is another budding
producer. With production credits on songs like
Back to back , Mayorkun’ s Yawa and Prayer ,
Dremo’s Who and IroNla and others , Fresh is
widely known for producing Davido ’ s mega
smash hit ‘ FIA’ .

the music industry with production credits on
SDC’ s Palmwine music EP and Shaydee ’ s Make
Sense ft Wizkid

As the year progresses, so also does expectations increases; amidst the expectation, we are anticipating the releases of these debut albums which were hitherto announced by the artistes in 2017. Surely 2018 would be very interesting one for the music industry. Below are the most anticipated debut albums for 2018;

Mayorkun
After being picked up by Davido’s DMW in 2016 following a rendition of one of Davido’s songs which he posted on twitter, Mayorkun dropped the monster hit ‘Eleko’ produced by Puffy Tee which went gathered a million views in just 10 days. Since then, the young lad has never looked back and has stayed on top of his game dropping hit singles. With scores of features like Whistle by DJ Consequence, Odo remix and Dblack’s Makoma among others, fans are already looking forward to what a Mayorkun’s album will be like and judging from his recent singles, it is going to be FIA.

Debut album in 2018! 80% of the songs are ready.. Let’s fire down!

— MAYORKUN (@IamMayorKun) December 31, 2017

Tekno
From the days of Holiday ft Davido and Onyenekwu ft Ice Prince, Tekno had always shown potentials. After signing to TripleMg under Ubi Franklin, Tekno dropped a string of hit songs one of which got him a deal with Universal Records. With over 100 million YouTube views and even a voluntary withdrawal from the next rated category at the 2016 Headies Awards, it can be said that Tekno is indeed a major act in the Nigerian entertainment circle. All this success he has achieved without a debut album. Many fans are of the opinion that the year 2018 is when Tekno’s debut album will drop.

Johnny Drille
After his stint at the 6th edition of MTN Project Fame in 2013, Johnny Drille kept the drive going until luck shined on him after he released a cover of Dija’s ‘Aww’ which caught Don Jazzy’s attention. With lots of well accepted hit singles, Johnny Drille is championing a new phase in the alternative music genre as regards the Nigerian entertainment industry. Currently signed to Mavin Record, we expect an excellent debut album from this wonderful singer.

LAX
Despite releasing a string of successful singles like Ginger ft Wizkid, Fine boy ft Olamide, Ole ft Dremo and YCEE, the former Starboy act has not dropped a debut album yet. The debut album tentatively titled ‘RAZAKI’ is expected to drop in 2018.

DONE SERVING MY COUNTRY ! NOW WE CAN DROP THE FIRE ALBUM ON THEM

A post shared by King Rasaki (@izzlax) on Nov 2, 2017 at 3:04am PDT

Maleek Berry
A MOBO nomination, a well received Last Daze of Summer EP, chart topping singles, over 20 million YouTube views and scores of hit music productions, producer turned singer, Maleek Shoyebi aka Maleek Berry has shown that he has what it takes to perform excellently in the music and music production fields of the entertainment industry. He broke out from his production field and crossed over into singing fully in 2017 and so far so good, the response has been amazing such that a lot of music listeners are looking forward to a debut album of his in the year 2018.

YCEE
After dropping hit singles like Jagaban, Omo Alhaji, Su mi and the mega hit single ‘Juice’ featuring Maleek Berry which Diddy grooved to on his social media page. With a commercially succcesful First wave EP as well as scoring a couple of hit collaborations, music listeners are looking forward to YCEE’s debut album especially as he has been classified as a singing rapper and critics are looking forward to scrutinizing the hip-hop and commercial value of the body of work YCEE will offering under his label, Tinny entertainment.

Poe
Show Dem Camp affiliate and Mavin star, Poe is widely known for his singles like Ko Ye Won, Gbe Sile and his hit single ‘Adore You’ not excluding collaborative efforts with SDC and BOJ on Feel Alright, Falz’ Marry Me and MI‘s All Fall Down which have achieved success in the Nigerian airwaves. Poe has been recognized as one of the sickest lyricists and rappers we currently have in Nigeria and Africa has a whole and lots of hip-hop fans and good music listeners are looking forward to his debut album in 2018.

With several predictions here and there , one
thing is certain for the Nigerian music industry
in 2018 – it will be an interesting year for both
mega and emerging artistes .

Although the previous didn't ’ t see the breakthrough of any artist in particular , 2018 promises to have loads of them and we are banking on these to steal the spotlight this year.

Based on their level of performances , acceptance and achievements , below is a list
of artistes to watch in 2018 ;

1) Nonso Amadi

The Covenant University graduate came through
with the self - produced hit single “ Tonight ” . The
song gathered over a million YouTube views
and his follow up songs such as Radio , Long
Live the Queen and other singles have received
positive reviews from fans across the world . He
released an EP titled WAR with Odunsi The
Engine in 2017 and scored a few other
collaborations. He is definitely an act to watch
out for .

2) Yovi

The LRR signee is another massive talent to
watch out for in 2018. Signed by Reminisce in
2017, he dropped the mild hit Amen and
followed up with the remix featuring Mayorkun
and Lil Kesh . His second single, All For You
was also well received . We await new
materials from the talented dude this year.

3) Peruzzi

The For Your Pocket crooner was picked up by
Davido ’ s DMW in 2017 after being credited for
penning down lyrics to Davido ’ s mega smash
hit “ FALL ” and “ FIA ” . The remix to For Your
Pocket featuring Davido is gaining momentum
on airwaves nationwide .

4) Dapo Turbuna

‘Eyan le blow any goddamn time ’, with songs
like Nothing and African Lady and a befitting
remix to Nothing featuring YCEE and Olamide ,
Dapo Turbuna seems not to be in the industry
to play. Armed with a wonderful voice and the
Tinny Entertainment resources, he is definitely
an act to watch out for in 2018 .

5) Bella Alubo

Also signed to Tinny Entertainment , Bella Alubo
is one diva to watch out for . With a unique
voice , appealing looks and excellent lyrics and
delivery as evidenced on Radio featuring YCEE
and Kokoka feat Tinny mafia, it is crystal clear
that Tiwa Savage and the rest should watch
their back in 2018 .

6) Davolee

After his verse on the smash hit , Pepper Dem
featuring his label boss , Olamide , Davolee
dropped Festival Bar, Cirocing and Oya Gbeff
which all achieved moderate success . However ,
we expect more from the YBNL signee as he
takes over the Yoruba rap scene in 2018 .

7)Zlatan Ibile

One of the biggest single of 2017 was crafted
by this wonderful guy. The rapper featured
YBNL boss , Olamide to give us the club
banger , My Body and the song became one of
the songs that aided the spread of the shaku
shaku dance. Definitely one act to watch out for
in 2018 .

cool Demmie Vee

Love Me Tender crooner and close associate of
Oladips, Demmie Vee was one of the new acts
that did exploits in 2017. With tracks like
Awesome God ft TuBaba, Love Me Tender
remix ft 9ice and Figure 8 which all achieved
moderate success, we are in for a brilliant
2018 from the deep voice and melodious demmie vee

9) Ckay

After the ground breaking podcast which had
MI, Loose Kaynon and Osagie Alogie where
Osagie asked who the f*** was Ckay , Ckay
trended for some time in the entertainment
circles and capitalize on the opportunity to
drop an EP which was well received . With
songs like Nkechi, Gaddemnit ft Dremo,
Girlfriend ft Dice Ailes and many more, it’ s safe
to say that we would actually get to know Ckay
better in 2018 .

10) Teni the Entertainer

Following the viral video of her cover to one of
Chief Osadebe songs , Teni went ahead to
release Fargin produced by Mystro. With song
writing credits to Davido ’ s hit single “ Like
That ” and another buzzing song titled Pareke ,
the singer who is related to Afro house Niniola
and also an affiliate of Shizzi has all it takes to
rule the airwaves come 2018.

11) Junior Boy

Following the success of his single Irapada
featuring 9ice and a shout out he got in Small
Doctor’s mega smash hit Penalty , Junior Boy
followed up with My Prayer and Bombay ft
CDQ . However we expect more from the Junior
Boy as he attempts to join his senior boys in
the music industry .

Worthy mentions

1) Ahmed

After coming on stage at the Wizkid’ s concert
held on December 24 TH of 2017 and dropping
heavy bars in the Yoruba language , he
immediately got signed to Starboy
entertainment and with a 10 million pledge to
help his career , tell me how this is not an act
to watch out for in 2018

2) Destiny Boy

After the release of the viral fuji cover of
Davido ’ s IF, Destiny boy went ahead to release
covers for YCEE ’ s Juice , Olamide ’ s WO ,
Mayorkun’ s Mama , Humblesmith’ s Lagos and
his official single, Omo Better . We expect more
from him in 2018 .

CelebritiesWizkid and Davido Collabo Drops Next Month ( Throwback photo) by Synord(op):
Davido tweeted way back in 2015 that a collaboration was in the works with Wizkid..This tweet was made after he won the best African Act at the MTV Mama awards in 2015..

Many people are of the opinion this can never happen ?? It's been Two years ......When will this highly anticipated collabo between this two Nigerian superstars come into reality ??

CelebritiesWizkid Disses Davido And His Team In Tekno's New Song ,mama ??? by Synord(op):
Remember when Davido dissed Wizkid and his management team ( Disturbing London ) via a song he tagged his most disrespectful track ever which he previewed on his Snapchat earlier this year ??

In the video , he called wizkid's management "Disturbing London pu*** boys dem"..

www.nairaland.com/4014993/davido-shades-wizkid-disturbing-london .

Wizkid has fired back at davido and his team on via his verse on Tekno's Mama ..In the song , Wizkid sings

"Right now, I don dey blow like trumpet ...

..I don't need to blow my trumpet .....

Dem be plug, na we be socket "..

Taking into account the recent rift between the two and the recent video of DMW acts mocking Starboy worldwide signed,Mr eazi, this is a direct shot at davido's management team ....Davido is managed by Asa asika under the management team called " Theplug"... The reference to " I don't need to blow my trumpet " might be a subliminal message to davido's unnecessary public display of his charitable acts, success and achievement..

When will this unhealthy relationship between the two come to an end so this two can give us the jam we have all been waiting for !!!!
