APGA DISMISSES CLAIMS OF DEFECTION TO APP

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially refuted claims suggesting that the party defected to the Action Peoples Party (APP) alongside Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The statements were reportedly made by Hon. Ugochinyere during a political gathering on January 7, 2026, at Akokwa in Ideato South LGA.

In a press statement issued by Amb. Power Daniel, APGA described the claims as “unfounded and mischievous.” The party clarified that Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has never been a member of APGA and holds no position or authority to speak for or influence the party. His recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APP, according to the statement, is a personal decision driven by internal issues within the PDP and bears no connection whatsoever to APGA.

APGA reaffirmed its independence, emphasizing that it has no plans to merge, coalition, or decamp to any other political party. The party stressed that it remains strong on its own, guided by the philosophy of “Onye Aghala Nwanneya” and the enduring legacy of its founding fathers. APGA further highlighted its proven track record of good governance, particularly in Anambra State, and its commitment to expanding its influence through dedicated service to the people of Imo State and the Federation at large.

The leadership structure of APGA in Imo State, the party affirmed, remains intact and unchanged, with Chief John Iwuala serving as the authentic State Chairman, Hon. George Nlebedum as the Chairman of Ideato North LGA, and Hon. Chief Casmir Ngama as the Chairman of Ideato South LGA.

APGA called on the people of Imo State, particularly in Ideato Nation, to disregard the claims made by Hon. Ugochinyere, describing them as a desperate attempt to seek undue public attention and drag the party’s respected name into personal political maneuvers. The party reiterated its unity, focus, and commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy, urging all loyal members and supporters to remain resolute and continue promoting the ideals of APGA.

APGA’S STRATEGIC GAINS UNDER BARR. SYLVESTER EZEOKENWA IN 2025

In 2025, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) solidified its relevance in Nigerian partisan politics under the national leadership of Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa — a tenure underpinned by legal vindication, electoral victories, and strengthened party structures. Ezeokenwa’s position as the authentic National Chairman was confirmed by Nigeria’s Supreme Court, ending a protracted leadership dispute that had threatened to weaken the party’s cohesion and focus. The apex court ruled that Barr. Ezeokenwa was the lawful national chairman and set aside rival claims to the position, providing APGA with stable leadership at a crucial political moment.

This legal triumph was more than symbolic. The Supreme Court and other courts barred rival claimants from parading themselves as APGA leaders, directed INEC to restore Ezeokenwa as chairman, and thereby prevented internal factionalism from derailing the party’s national strategy. This court affirmation fortified APGA’s national image and ensured organisational readiness for the 2025 electoral calendar.

With the leadership crisis resolved, APGA mobilised effectively for a series of key by-elections in 2025, most notably in Anambra State — the party’s stronghold. In August 2025, the party scored significant legislative victories in both a Senatorial by-election and a House of Assembly contest. In the Anambra South Senatorial District, APGA’s Emmanuel Chibuzor Nwachukwu won a hard-fought contest, amassing over 90,000 votes and defeating candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other parties.

On the same day, APGA also secured a victory in the Onitsha North I State Constituency for the Anambra State House of Assembly. APGA’s candidate Ifeoma Azikiwe emerged triumphant, defeating challengers from rival parties and reinforcing APGA’s legislative footprint at the state level. These wins demonstrated not only the party’s organisational muscle in its home state but also its appeal in competitive democratic contests.

Collectively, these by-election victories represented a consolidation of APGA’s political presence in the National Assembly and the Anambra State legislature, enhancing the party’s ability to influence legislative processes and advocate for the developmental priorities of its constituents.

APGA’s influence was most vividly displayed in the November 8, 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, where Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, running on the APGA platform, won a landslide re-election victory. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Soludo polled 422,664 votes, overwhelmingly defeating his closest rival, APC’s Nicholas Ukachukwu, who scored 99,445 votes. Soludo’s victory spanned all 21 local government areas of Anambra State — a historic and emphatic affirmation of the party’s dominance.

The magnitude of Soludo’s win — secured with more than 70 percent of the total votes cast and decisive coverage across nearly all electoral wards — underscored APGA’s resonance with the electorate in Anambra. Party leaders described the outcome as a reaffirmation of the confidence that Ndi Anambra place in APGA’s governance and vision, particularly given Soludo’s reform agenda and service delivery during his first term.

In his victory remarks and subsequent celebratory events, Governor Soludo thanked the people of Anambra for renewing their mandate, promising to build on his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development. Observers and party stalwarts interpreted this mandate as a clear endorsement of performance-based leadership and continuity.
Beyond securing the governorship, APGA’s performance in the legislative by-elections and gubernatorial polls inevitably boosted the party’s national profile. APGA demonstrated that it could weather internal challenges and still deliver substantial electoral outcomes — a message that resonated with its supporters and positioned the party as an influential force in Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.

Under Ezeokenwa’s stewardship in 2025, APGA also focused on grassroots mobilisation, strengthening its state and federal chapters, and engaging young voters through policy messaging that emphasised development, unity, and accountability. These activities contributed to the party’s strategic capacity to compete in fiercely contested electoral terrain.

In sum, the year 2025 marked a turning point for the All Progressives Grand Alliance. The party overcame internal strife through a critical court victory, secured key legislative seats in Anambra, and achieved a sweeping governorship victory — thereby consolidating its hold on its core constituency and enhancing its relevance in national politics. As APGA positions itself for future contests and broader national engagement, these achievements under Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa’s leadership offer a foundation for sustained growth and impact within Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

OSUN 2026: PRINCE ADESINA ADEYEMI-DORO EMERGES APGA GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE

Prince Adesina Olusanya Aderemi-Doro has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The APGA Governorship Primary Election was held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Osogbo City Hall, Olonkoro, Osogbo, Osun State. The party’s Primary Election Electoral Panel was chaired by Pastor Popoola Olatunji, the National Auditor of APGA and a member of the National Working Committee. Mr. Wole Adedoyin served as Secretary of the panel, while Mr. Victor Olopade and two others served as members.
The primary election was monitored on behalf of the national headquarters of the party by the National Vice Chairman, Chief Suraj Owolabi. The exercise also witnessed the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Mrs. Abiodun Lawal Oyekan from the Commission’s national headquarters, alongside Mr. Okeranti Samson, Abajesude M.A., and Gusanu Michael.
Delegates from thirty local government areas of Osun State participated in the primary election, which culminated in the emergence of Prince Adesina Olusanya Aderemi-Doro as the party’s governorship candidate through affirmation by voice vote. The election was rancor-free, fair, and credible.
The Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, was also present to monitor the primary election on behalf of INEC, further stressing the transparency and credibility of the process.
In his acceptance speech, Prince Adesina Olusanya Aderemi-Doro expressed profound gratitude to party leaders, delegates, and members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to run an inclusive and people-oriented campaign, reaffirming his commitment to the APGA philosophy of good governance, social justice, and grassroots development.

DORO: We will enhance community policing, improve intelligence gathering, deploy technology (CCTV, hotlines, rural alert systems), and work closely with traditional rulers to ensure proactive security.

APGA TO CONDUCT OSUN 2026 GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY ON SUNDAY

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has confirmed that its governorship primary for the 2026 Osun State election will hold this Sunday, signaling a key step in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming poll.

The exercise is expected to bring together accredited delegates from across the state as the party progresses with its internal democratic processes.

Addressing journalists at the party’s headquarters, the APGA Acting State Chairman, Wole Adedoyin reiterated the party’s commitment to a transparent and credible primary. He noted that all logistics and procedural arrangements have been concluded, assuring that Sunday’s event will reflect APGA’s tradition of justice, equity, and people-oriented leadership.

The party’s screening committee has certified aspirants eligible for participation, following weeks of consultations and engagements with delegates. OSUN 2026: WHY GOVERNOR ADEMOLA ADELEKE SHOULD NOT PURSUE RE-ELECTION UNDER ACCORD PARTY

The Accord Party is currently enmeshed in one of the most destabilizing internal crises in its history, raising serious concerns for any political actor considering the platform for major electoral ambitions. Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, who has been rumoured to be weighing Accord as a possible vehicle for the 2026 governorship election, must take heed of the storm brewing within the party at both national and state levels.
The trouble began in November 2025 when a powerful faction comprising Accord state chairmen from all 36 states announced the suspension of the then National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, and his Deputy National Chairman, Chief Okey Nwosu, over allegations of anti-party activities. The faction, operating under what it described as a “stakeholders' mandate,” swiftly replaced them with Professor Chris Imumolen, citing a Federal High Court judgment which they claim recognises Imumolen as the lawful national leader of the party.
The accusations against Mgbudem and his deputy were grave. According to the faction, the suspended leaders allegedly colluded with external political actors to sabotage Accord’s internal stability, including offering veiled support to a rival party’s candidate during a recent governorship election. These claims, though denied by the Mgbudem camp, have fuelled a deepening rift within the party.
As a result, Accord now operates under two parallel national structures — one loyal to Prof. Chris Imumolen and the stakeholder-led “reformist” faction, and another loyal to Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, who insists that no legitimate NEC meeting ever suspended him. This dual leadership tussle has plunged the party into confusion, with each faction issuing contradictory directives, statements, and political endorsements.
Such instability sends a troubling message to the public, opposition parties, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC): Accord currently lacks a unified, uncontested national authority. For any sitting governor or high-stake aspirant, this is a dangerous environment in which to anchor a re-election project.
Indeed, the very stakeholders who suspended Mgbudem publicly warned Governor Adeleke “to be wary of engaging with the suspended National Chairman to avoid falling into a judicial quagmire that could derail his political ambitions.” This caution should not be taken lightly. Should Adeleke align with a faction that a court later invalidates, his candidacy could be thrown into legal turmoil, including possible disqualification or prolonged litigation.
Unfortunately, the crisis is not limited to the federal level. In Osun State, Accord is battling its own leadership vacuum. Former members of the Osun Executive Committee insist that the tenure of the state exco expired in March 2025, and accuse the current chairman, Victor Akande, of illegally overstaying in office without a valid congress or properly constituted caretaker committee. These former executives — led by figures such as Comrade Adesina Akingbade — have formally petitioned stakeholders, including INEC, urging them to disregard Akande’s leadership claims.
Akande, for his part, maintains that he remains the legitimate chairman, insisting he was mandated by the national secretariat to set up a caretaker leadership. But with the national leadership itself divided, his claim depends heavily on which faction one recognises — thereby deepening the confusion.
What emerges is a picture of total organisational disarray. The national leadership is split between Mgbudem and Imumolen; the state chapter is divided between Akande and former executive members; and both levels are rife with accusations, counter-accusations, and claims of expired mandates. No prudent political strategist would recommend that a sitting governor tie his fortunes to such an unstable platform.
Given these realities — the risks of litigation, conflicting directives, delegitimisation, and voter confusion — it would be unwise for Governor Ademola Adeleke to seek re-election under Accord in 2026. A turbulent and divided party cannot offer the structure, predictability, or credibility required for a competitive governorship bid. Instead, the governor would be far better served by a platform with unity, clarity, and institutional stability at its core.

APGA IS NATIONAL, NOT IGBO: ADEDOYIN COUNTERS CRITICS, HAILS ADELEKE’S LEADERSHIP
The Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Osun State, and the Chairmanship Candidate for Ilesa West Local Government in the last February Local Government Election conducted under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Hon. Wole Adedoyin, has debunked the recurring claim that APGA is an “Igbo party.” He described the assertion as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the national identity and political strength of the party.
Hon. Adedoyin noted that APGA, like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a fully registered national political party with constitutional presence across the federation. He explained that while the party’s visibility is strongest in the South East and parts of the South South, APGA has established solid structures across all geopolitical zones. “APGA has won elections in Oyo State in the Southwest, as well as in Taraba, Benue, and Nasarawa States in the North in the past. The party’s popularity in Anambra and the wider South East does not diminish its national identity,” he said.
Speaking further, the Osun APGA Chairman addressed public reactions surrounding speculations that Governor Ademola Adeleke might consider APGA as a platform for his re-election bid. He stressed that while such speculations are widespread, the only comment worth responding to is the false narrative that APGA is regionally owned. “APGA is not an ethnic party. It is a national platform open to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, faith, or location,” he stated.
Adedoyin pointed out that Nigeria’s political history shows that regional dominance does not equate to ethnic ownership. He cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s former Action Congress (AC) and later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which were once dominant in the Southwest but never labelled as Yoruba parties. “The AC and ACN even fielded prominent Igbo and South South candidates for elective positions. That is how national parties operate. APGA is no different,” he affirmed.
Responding to insinuations of internal crisis, Adedoyin maintained that APGA remains stable, united, and properly structured. He emphasized that the party has no faction at the national level and is under the competent leadership of its duly recognized National Chairman, Chief Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa. “There is no legal crisis in APGA. All recent elections, including the by-elections conducted by INEC in Anambra State, were won decisively by APGA. The party is growing stronger under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Chairman Ezeokenwa,” he stated.
Hon. Adedoyin also highlighted APGA as the most viable political platform for any leader seeking a credible, people-oriented mandate. He expressed confidence that the party possesses the national capacity, internal unity, and grassroots structures required to support any re-election aspiration, should Governor Adeleke choose to run on its platform.
Finally, Adedoyin described Governor Ademola Adeleke as a divine blessing to Osun State, applauding his developmental strides across infrastructure, education, workers’ welfare, and social interventions. “Governor Adeleke has transformed Osun within a short period. Ezeokenwa further recalled Deacon Olalere’s outstanding achievements as the foundation and pioneer chairman of APGA in Oyo State, where he laid a solid foundation for the party’s growth and credibility. He also praised his remarkable service as the Director-General of the 2019 APGA Presidential Campaign Organization for Dr. John W. Gbor (Rtd), where his strategic leadership and organizational acumen contributed immensely to the national visibility of the party.
The APGA National Chairman highlighted that beyond politics, Deacon Olalere’s professional excellence as an economist and Microfinance Consultant with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Oyo State exemplifies his passion for sustainable economic growth, human capacity development, and social impact. He noted that Deacon Olalere’s work has touched countless lives, both within and outside the political sphere.

A passionate literacy advocate, Mrs. Ilusanmi has shared her expertise at several high-profile literary gatherings. She was a speaker and panelist at the 2019 Connect Nigeria Writers’ Conference, where she spoke on Successful Book Marketing, and at the 2023 Lagos Books and Art Festival (LABAF), where she discussed Winning with Book Publishing and Marketing. Her insights have guided numerous authors in understanding the business side of writing.

She is the President of the Literary Authors Cooperative Multipurpose Society of Nigeria and the Founder of Book Marketing Class Africa (BMACA). A graduate of Publishing Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas, USA, she embodies excellence and professionalism in literary entrepreneurship.

Her recent engagements include serving as keynote speaker at the Booksellers Association of Nigeria Conference in October 2024, where she spoke on Creative, Innovative, and Aggressive Marketing Approaches for Selling More Books, and as a panelist at the Writers Interactive Network Literary Festival 3 (ARTSLIVELAGOS) in November 2024, discussing Book PR for the 21st Century.
