APGA LAUNCHES 'DRIVE' INITIATIVE: REVITALIZING DISCIPLINE, UNITY, AND PROGRESS
By Wole Adedoyin
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) National Working Committee (NWC) under the dynamic leadership of Sly Ezeokenwa Esq. is committed to a greater vision of unity and progress for all APGA faithfuls and Nigerians at large. As part of this commitment, the APGA National Chairman recently extended an olive branch to all those who share the desire to see the growth and development of the Party during his appearance on Channels TV.
In a press release issued by the National Publicity of APGA, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, KSM, the Chairman's outreach is seen as a prelude to his comprehensive roadmap for revitalizing APGA and positioning it as the foremost home for all Progressives in the country. Central to this roadmap is the "DRIVE" initiative, with the first letter 'D' emphasizing the importance of DISCIPLINE.
In Nigerian politics, indiscipline has unfortunately become a norm, hindering the progress of political parties. The Ezeokenwa-led NWC of APGA recognizes that discipline is the lifeblood of any successful organization. Therefore, it has declared zero tolerance for all forms of indiscipline, including the flagrant abuse of party rules. Notably, individuals like Edozie Njoku and others, who engage in unnecessary legal battles, are seen as avoidable distractions to the party's progress.
APGA's commitment to discipline is unwavering, and the NWC urges all members to embrace this core value. The party firmly believes that only through discipline can it forge ahead and achieve its goals. The olive branch extended by Chairman Ezeokenwa provides an opportunity for those like Mr. Njoku and his sponsors to join hands with the party and contribute to its growth and success.
The "DRIVE" initiative represents a comprehensive approach to revitalizing APGA and ensuring its relevance in Nigerian politics. Subsequent communications will elaborate on the significance of each letter in this initiative. It is a call to action, urging party members to embrace a new way of doing things and effect positive change.
APGA's commitment to discipline, unity, and progress remains resolute. Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Ezeokenwa, the party is poised to make great strides towards achieving its goals. With a renewed focus on core values and a clear roadmap for the future, APGA is confident that it will reclaim its position as the party of choice for all progressive-minded individuals in Nigeria.

APGA AFFIRMS LEGITIMACY OF NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE AMIDST RECENT COURT JUDGMENT

By Wole Adedoyin

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) wishes to clarify its position regarding the recent court judgment delivered on 6th June 2023, in a suit filed against Chief Victor Ike Oye and INEC by Otunba Camaru Lateef Ogidan and Rubiu Mustapha. The judgment has no effect on the legitimacy of the wards, Local Governments, and States congresses, as well as the National Convention of APGA held on 31st May 2023, which saw the emergence of the Barr Sly Ezeokenwa-led National Working Committee.

In a legal statement issued by the National Legal Adviser of the party Victor Agunzi Esq and made available by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, KSM, provides the following points to support the affirmation of the legitimacy of its National Working Committee:

1. APGA was not a party to the suit, and there was no order made against APGA regarding the conduct of its congresses and National Convention.

2. As APGA was not a party to the suit, it is not bound by the judgment delivered.

3. The Court did not declare Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA.

4. The Court only emphasized the need for parties to obey the Supreme Court judgment delivered on 14th October 2021.

5. The Court affirmed that the status quo, as stated in the Supreme Court judgment, should be maintained before the suit was filed in Jigawa.

6. The Court did not define the specific status quo but left it to the parties involved.

7. The Court of Appeal's judgment, which was affirmed by the Supreme Court, already determined the status quo before the suit in Jigawa. It recognized Chief Victor Ike Oye as the validly elected Chairman of APGA.

8. The Court stated that any action taken by Chief Victor Ike Oye in contravention of a court judgment is null and void. However, it did not find that Chief Victor Ike Oye had violated the Supreme Court judgment.

9. The Court of Appeal, on 2nd June 2023, affirmed the judgment of Hon. Justice James Kolawole Omotosho, which authenticated Dr. Victor Ike Oye as the National Chairman of APGA authorized by law to nominate and forward the names of APGA candidates to INEC.

10. The judgment of the Court of Appeal, affirming Justice James Kolawole Omotosho's judgment, holds greater authority than that of the FCT High Court.

11. INEC is bound by law to obey the judgment of a superior court, not an inferior court.

APGA asserts that the judgments of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and the validation of Dr. Victor Ike Oye as the National Chairman of APGA all favor its cause. Furthermore, the Court's order restraining INEC from recognizing Chief Victor Ike Oye as the National Chairman does not affect the legitimacy of the current National Working Committee.

The Wards, Local Governments, States Congresses, and the National Convention of APGA were conducted in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment and the Anambra State High Court judgment mandating Chief Victor Ike Oye to conduct these activities before the expiration of his tenure.

Barr Sly Ezeokenwa and members of his National Working Committee, elected at the National Convention of APGA held on 31st May 2023, remain the validly elected National executives of APGA.

APGA urges its members and supporters to disregard the propaganda and misinformation being spread by the Edozie Njoku group regarding the recent court judgment. The party remains committed to its principles and the development of Nigeria.

APGA DENOUNCES FCT HIGH COURT JUDGMENT ON PARTY LEADERSHIP
By Wole Adedoyin
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) hereby expresses its strong denouncement of the recent judgment delivered by His Lordship, Hon Justice Mohammed A Madugu of the FCT High Court, Bwari Judicial Division. This judgment purportedly made pronouncements on the corrected Supreme Court judgment, declaring the Plaintiffs as National Officers of APGA and questioning the authority of the immediate past National Chairman, Dr Victor Ike Oye, to conduct Congresses and the National Convention of APGA.
In a statement released today by the National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, KSM, APGA highlights the irregularities surrounding the proceedings and clarifies the implications of the judgment for the party and the general public.
APGA acknowledges that it would have ignored these perverse and overreaching pronouncements, as the party had no involvement in the proceedings before the said Court. However, the party feels compelled to address the judgment for the benefit of its esteemed members and the general public who may be unaware of its correct implications.
APGA has previously raised concerns regarding the actions taken by Justice Madugu during the proceedings, particularly his ruling on June 2, 2023, which declared an appeal pending before the Court of Appeal as incompetent. Thus, the judgment delivered by the Court comes as no surprise to APGA.
Furthermore, APGA finds it bewildering that the Judge attempted to pronounce upon the tenure of the plaintiffs, which had already expired on May 31, 2023, as per their own claim before the court. Consequently, the court lacked the jurisdiction to deliver the judgment on June 6, 2023.
In light of these facts, APGA firmly asserts that it has no involvement in either the proceedings before Justice Madugu or the judgment delivered by him. As a party, APGA was not a party in the suit and is therefore not bound by the outcome or the judgment purportedly delivered by the Trial Judge.
It is worth noting that the correct interpretation of the Supreme Court Ruling of March 24, 2023, which Justice Madugu delved into, has already been settled by the judgments of two Federal High Courts. Hon Justice James Kolawole Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, and Hon Justice H A Nganjiwa of the Awka Division have already provided clarity on this matter. Additionally, the Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment of Justice Omotosho on June 2, 2023. Justice Madugu's attempt to overturn the Court of Appeal's judgment is a display of judicial rascality.
APGA reiterates that its nationwide congresses and National Convention were conducted in compliance with the judgment of the High Court of Anambra State, Otuocha Judicial Division, which ordered APGA to hold these events before the expiration of its current officers' tenure. Dr Victor Ike Oye cannot, under any circumstances, be equated with APGA. APGA is a duly registered political party with its common seal and possesses the full right to sue or be sued in its name.
Therefore, APGA urges its esteemed members, supporters, and the general public to disregard any claims of an alleged judgment affecting the leadership of the party. Barr Sly Ezeokenwa remains the duly elected National Chairman of APGA, having emerged from a proper National Convention duly monitored by INEC. He is the rightful person recognized by law to carry out the functions of the office.

Wole Adedoyin has had a varied political career, starting in 2004 as National Coordinator of the Good Governance Club and later the Conference of Young Nigerian Democrats. In 2009, he was appointed Ibadan North Chairman of the Progressive Action Congress (PAC) and later became State Publicity Secretary of the same party. In 2010, Adedoyin switched to the African Renaissance Party (ARP) as State Secretary before moving on to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and becoming State Secretary/Publicity Secretary. He was involved in the Coalition for a New Nigeria (CNN) in 2011, serving as the pioneer Secretary in Oyo State. He then became Oyo State Secretary of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) after the phase-out of the CNN. In the same year, he was appointed Chairman of the Peoples Mandate Party (PMP) in Oyo State.
After the PMP was deregistered, Adedoyin was appointed Organizing Secretary of an award ceremony organized by the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in honor of former Governor of Oyo State, HE Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi. In 2013, he moved to the United Progressive Party (UPP) and became the foundation State Secretary of the party in Oyo State. Later that year, he joined the African Peoples Alliance party (APA) and emerged as the pioneer Oyo State Secretary of the Interparty Advisory Council (Oyo-IPAC) in 2014.
In 2015, Adedoyin represented APA at the National Interparty Youth Dialogues and later served as Osun State Chairman of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP). He was also the Coordinator of the Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP) and served as Chairman of the Osun State Coalition of Progressive Political Parties (Osun COP3) and the Association of Progressive Political Parties, Osun State Chapter (Osun APPPS). In 2019, he was contracted by the former National President of the Interparty Advisory Council (IPAC), Chief Peter Ameh, to edit and publish the newly conceived electronic IPAC Monthly newsletter, "IPAC News."
Adedoyin also created the "IPAC Watchdog" platform to connect all the National Chairmen of the 91 registered political parties with their States Chairmen. This platform allowed them to share the latest news related to INEC, IPAC, Elections, Security, National Affairs, and more. He also added powerful people ranging from Commissioners of Police, Director of Civil Defense, INEC RECS, and others. He later created another similar platform, "National Focus," which focused only on national issues affecting the country.
Adedoyin made a bid for the Governorship candidacy of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) in 2018. This placed him in the company of other popular candidates, including Senator Iyiola Omisore, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, and former Osun State SSG, Hon. Moshood Adeoti. Adedoyin was quoted as saying that he believed the HDP was a unique political party.
Adedoyin has also been an attendee of the Emerging Political and Economic Leaders Summit in Abuja. This one-day event was organized in 2017 by the Emerging Political and Economic Leaders Summit, in conjunction with the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership and the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs. Politics / My Encounter With Bashiru Lamidi Apapa, Factional Chairman Of The Labour Party- by synw: 11:14am On May 29, 2023
MY ENCOUNTER WITH BASHIRU LAMIDI APAPA, FACTIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE LABOUR PARTY- WOLE ADEDOYIN
In a recent article, I shared my encounter with the Late Comrade Laoye Sanda and now feel compelled to talk about another significant figure, Comrade Lamidi Apapa. Alhaji Lamidi Apapa is a dedicated labour activist and former Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State. His recent rise to national prominence is closely tied to the ongoing crisis within the Labour Party.
During the suspension of Comrade Abure, the factional Chairman of the Labour Party, another faction within the party declared Alhaji Lamidi Apapa as their factional Acting National Chairman. The matter is currently before the courts, awaiting resolution.
Before my tenure as the pioneer Secretary of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Oyo State and later as the State Secretary of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), I served as the state Secretary of the Coalition for A New Nigeria with the Late Comrade Laoye Sanda as Chairman. It was during this time that I first crossed paths with Alhaji Lamidi Apapa. While I represented the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Lamidi Apapa represented the Labour Party within the coalition. The primary objective of the Coalition for A New Nigeria was to challenge the political administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by the Late Otunba Alao Akala. Alhaji Lamidi Apapa played a pivotal role in the success of this coalition.
We were well aware of the attempts made by the government of the Late Otunba Alao Akala to entice Alhaji Lamidi Apapa with monetary offers and enticing appointments in a bid to secure his support. However, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa stood firm and rejected these offers.
Upon the announcement of Alhaji Lamidi Apapa's involvement in the Labour Party, the supporters of the "Obidients" (followers of Peter Obi) took to the Internet to criticize him. Some resorted to name-calling, referring to him as an herbalist, masquerade, or even Bin Laden. The Obidients believed that President-Elect Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was sponsoring Alhaji Lamidi Apapa to destabilize the Labour Party (LP).
Having known Alhaji Lamidi Apapa for a considerable period, especially during the Coalition for a New Nigeria Days, I confidently dismiss these allegations. He is an honest, transparent, and trustworthy politician who cannot be swayed by monetary influence. The rumors circulating about him are entirely baseless.
I am well aware of the disruptive behaviors exhibited by some obedient individuals who refer to Alh. Lamidi Apapa using different derogatory names. Prior to the 2023 General elections, I shared a post on my Facebook timeline explaining why I intended to vote for Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the recently concluded election. In that write-up, I clearly stated that I had voted against Tinubu's cousin, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, in the 2022 Osun Governorship election. Instead, I cast my vote for Senator Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor of the state. In my post, I cited Oyetola's poor performance during his first term in office, the lack of a people-oriented plan, and inadequate manifestoes that could further hinder the economic development of Osun State. While continuing my write-up, I made a promise to vote for Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which I eventually fulfilled. However, this publication on my timeline greatly angered some of the obedient individuals who were also my Facebook friends. Within minutes of sharing my thoughts on voting for Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, some of them began to insult me, unfriended me, or removed me from their groups.
This is the essence of the Obidients group: they hold the belief that the world exists solely for their own benefit. They firmly assert their authority and consider their decisions to be absolute. Any form of criticism directed at Obi is met with severe consequences. Even the slightest disagreement with his statements prompts them to react as if the heavens themselves were about to collapse. It troubles me greatly when I come across numerous writings by the Obidients, which aim to undermine the political achievements of Alh. Lamidi Apapa—a respected political leader whom I had the privilege of working with. I personally witnessed his remarkable political background and it is disheartening to see individuals from obscure origins tarnishing his political legacy.
Now, regarding the matter involving Alh. Lamidi Apapa, I knew that some of the aggrieved obedient individuals were spreading false information about him. During our time in the Coalition for A New Nigeria, Alh. Lamidi Apapa served as the vice chairman of the Coalition while also providing advisory support to the movement. I held the position of state secretary within the same Coalition. Alh. Lamidi Apapa is a political strategist and a grassroots politician. In 2007, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the current Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, endorsed him as the preferred gubernatorial candidate and instructed his followers to vote for him and his party, the Labour Party, in the upcoming election.
During the years that both Alh. Lamidi Apapa and I dedicated to the political struggle, I gained valuable knowledge from him. Under his leadership as Chairman of the Labour Party in Oyo State, the party not only became formidable but also emerged as a significant political force in the history of Oyo State.
Alh. Lamidi Apapa is a principled, trustworthy, and honest politician. Those who are fabricating lies against him are only trying to hinder his progress.
I acknowledge the existence of plots orchestrated by certain regressive elements aimed at undermining him. Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, from my understanding, is a resilient individual. He cannot be easily vanquished. Accusing him of accepting funds from Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not just an effort to tarnish his reputation but also an attempt to undermine the integrity he has painstakingly built.
The political chronicles of Oyo State would be incomplete without mentioning the name of Alhaji Lamidi Apapa. He has proven his worth not only as a champion of labour rights but also as a grassroots politician who has positively influenced the lives of numerous supporters. If Alhaji Lamidi Apapa was truly as reprehensible as some critics suggest, he would not have garnered support from individuals hailing from the eastern and northern regions of the country who align themselves with the ideals of the Labour Party.
Wole Adedoyin holds the position of National Coordinator in both the Writers for Democratic Change (WDC) and the Democratic Writers Association of Nigeria (DWAN). Additionally, he is recognized as the inaugural Secretary of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Oyo State and has previously served as the Secretary of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Oyo State.

Literature / My Encounter With Comrade Laoye Sanda – Wole Adedoyin by synw: 11:21am On May 28, 2023
MY ENCOUNTER WITH COMRADE LAOYE SANDA – WOLE ADEDOYIN
Comrade Laoye Sanda transcended being merely a popular Socialist; he was an exceptional leader and mentor, leaving a profound impact on numerous individuals. His resounding voice resonated with the struggles of the oppressed, illuminating their path with hope. Throughout his life, he actively engaged in various protests and campaigns, all dedicated to improving the lives of the masses. Reflecting upon Nigeria's Democracy Day, it would be inadequate not to acknowledge the significant contributions made by Comrade Laoye Sanda. Personally, I take great pride in having been taught by such an influential figure.
My encounter with Comrade Laoye Sanda took place around 2010 during a workshop organized by the Oyo State branch of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Representing the now-defunct African Renaissance Party (ARP), I attended the workshop while Comrade Laoye Sanda represented the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) as its Southwest Chairman. Following the workshop, Comrade Laoye Sanda extended an invitation to all the participating political parties, which occurred during the political administration of the Late Otunba Alao Akala, then known as the OYATO Governor. Otunba Akala's tenure was marred by extravagant spending and thuggery.
During the meeting, a new movement was established, named the Coalition for A New Nigeria (CNN). I later discovered that the late Balarabe Musa, one of the founders of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and former Governor of the Old Kaduna State, had founded the Coalition for A New Nigeria (CNN). Alh. Balarabe Musa, who served as the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party and the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), was a major voice against the political administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headed by President Goodluck Jonthan then. The Coalition for A New Nigeria emerged as one of the movements he believed could seize power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the federal level.
During the meeting, Comrade Laoye Sanda sought someone to take on the task of writing the meeting minutes. However, no one expressed interest except for my boss, Dr. Smart Awopegba, who was then serving as the Chairman of the now defunct Progressive Action Congress (PAC). Having read many of my write-ups, Dr. Awopegba recommended me to Comrade Laoye Sanda, and I was entrusted with the responsibility of writing the minutes. As a result, I eventually assumed the role of Oyo State Secretary for the Coalition for A New Nigeria (CNN), while Comrade Laoye Sanda remained the Chairman of the Coalition.
Following the meeting, Comrade Laoye Sanda kindly offered to drive me to my father's office in Mokola. During our conversation there, he realized that I too was a committed comrade. Prior to joining the African Renaissance Party (ARP), I had served as the Nigerian Director of the Good Governance Club and had been the former President of the Conference of Young Nigerian Democrats. The Good Governance Club maintained affiliations with the United Nations and other international organizations, and I represented them in Nigeria. The club had issued a directive from its headquarters, urging all country representatives to engage in politics, which prompted me and other members to join various political parties at the time. The Good Governance Club operated on socialist principles, and it was within this club that I organized my first protest and political rally.
Comrade Laoye Sanda and I jointly led the Coalition for A New Nigeria for a year, with fifteen registered political parties as members. During this period, we issued numerous press releases criticizing the government of Otunba Alao Akala, participated in various protests and political rallies (I still possess some of the minutes, releases, and posters from that struggle).
Our primary target audience was the voters, and we endeavored to raise awareness among them about the detrimental consequences of Otunba Alao Akala's reelection bid. However, within the CNN, the number of politicians outweighed that of the activists, resulting in their dominance in most of our meetings. Nonetheless, Comrade Laoye Sanda effectively employed his activist experience to make a significant impact.
It was Comrade Laoye Sanda who provided the financial support for the struggle. I recall him giving me money for tasks such as photocopying and typing the minutes. During my time at CNN, I encountered Comrade Lamidi Apapa, who is currently the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party. At that time, he served as the Vice Chairman of the Movement and the Oyo State Chairman of the Labour Party. Comrade Lamidi Apapa played a significant role in contributing both financially and in other forms to the movement's success. Our meetings took place in various political party offices and at the residence of Comrade Ola Oni in Bodija. It was at CNN where I also met other young comrades like Wale Aluta, a former UI SUG President, Comrade Lawal Kehinde, and Wale Oni, one of the sons of the late Comrade Ola Oni. Under the guidance of Comrade Laoye Sanda, we were all taught the fundamentals of Socialist Democracy. We were his protégés, serving and learning the essentials of political struggles, protests, rallies, and what it truly meant to be a comrade.
During my time at CNN, Comrade Loye Sanda offered me the position of State Secretary/Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Oyo State. Consequently, I switched from the African Renaissance Party (ARP) to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) under the Southwest regional leadership of Comrade Laoye Sanda. It was during my tenure with PRP that I began engaging in professional activism. I attended socialist lectures at his residence on Old Ife Road, and it was during this period that he appointed me as the President of the Yoruba Progressive Youth Movement, a radical youth movement founded by him. He also provided me with socialist literature to read.
Attending meetings during that time was not easy. Regardless of whether I had money or not, I had to find a way to make it to the meetings. Sometimes, when I lacked funds, I would walk from my father's office in Mokola to Labiran at Beere, which served as our meeting point. Other times, I walked from Mokola to Idi Ape, where the former Secretariat of the Labour Party was located. Eventually, the meetings moved to Sango, opposite Sango Cemetery. There were occasions when I attended without having anything to eat. There was even a time when I trekked from Mokola to Comrade Laoye's house on Old Ife Road. However, upon arrival at the meeting, he would provide us with transportation fare and food. Comrade Laoye trained us to face challenges head-on, and we grew accustomed to them. The lessons we learned from him during this training proved valuable in my later life.
Comrade Laoye Sanda, a humble man, holds a special place in my memories. After concluding a state meeting of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) at our Labiran Secretariat one day, we needed to discuss pressing matters with the National Chairman of the Party, Alh. Balarabe Musa. Typically, my Chairman would summon me to meet him at the residence of Comrade Laoye Sanda, where we could present our requests while he dialed Alh. Balarabe Musa's number in our presence. However, there was an occasion when our state meeting ended at our Labiran office and we sought to converse with Alh. Balarabe Musa. As usual, we visited Comrade Laoye Sanda's house and explained the purpose of our visit. In response, he promptly picked up his phone and contacted Alh. Balarabe Musa, discussing our concerns with him. As we departed, Comrade Laoye Sanda pulled me aside and entrusted me with Alh. Balarabe Musa's contact number, urging me to directly engage with him whenever there were party matters to discuss. He expressed his confidence in me to my Chairman, Alh. Ibrahim Gazali.
On the eve of the 2011 Governorship election in Oyo State, Comrade Laoye Sanda and I found ourselves in the sitting room of the late governor, presenting him with the report on our movement (CNN) and providing updates on various developments. He graciously attended to us, and we briefed him accordingly.
Our struggles during 2010/2011 eventually bore fruit when the incumbent, Otunba Alao Akala, lost the 2011 Governorship Election to the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Abiola Ajimobi. Recognizing Comrade Laoye Sanda's contributions, he was appointed as a member of the Governing Board of the Polytechnic, Ibadan. Upon learning of his appointment, I confidently affirmed to a friend that he deserved it. In fact, Comrade Sanda had been the primary writer of the slogans and messages displayed on the placards during Senator Abiola Ajimobi's rallies and campaigns in 2011. When Comrade Laoye Sanda received his first salary, he selflessly shared it among all of us.
There is much more to share about my experiences with Comrade Laoye Sanda, but I will save it for the second part of this article.
Wole Adedoyin holds the position of National Coordinator in both the Writers for Democratic Change (WDC) and the Democratic Writers Association of Nigeria (DWAN). Through their chosen artistic expressions, these women communicate their innermost thoughts and aspirations, eschewing violence and despair in favor of beauty, sincerity, and an honest yearning for freedom, peace, and justice within their home country.
The book amplifies the voices of Iranian women and spreads a crucial message about the ongoing struggle for human rights during these tumultuous times. DISSIDENT WRITERS UPSTAGE ANA BAYELSA

Award-winning Nigerian poet, Prince Nengi Josef Owei-ilagha, was detained yesterday at the Zone 16 headquarters of the Nigerian police in Yenagoa, on arrival from the tenth memorial anniversary of Chinua Achebe, Africa's foremost novelist and author of the classic novels, Things Fall Apart and Arrow of God, at the Mamman Vatsa Writers' Village, Abuja.

The poet was detained along with six other Bayelsa writers who showed up for interrogation amongst a total of fifteen writers on an exclusive list, including his wife, Mrs Bina Nengi-Ilagha and Emmanuel Frank-Opigo, both Fellows of the Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA. Other writers detained were Mrs Hannah Onoguwe, Secretary of ANA Bayelsa, Dr Tariere Angaye, Mrs Mercy Toruemi, and Opusam Ete.

The detention of the seven writers followed a petition filed by two expelled members of ANA Bayelsa chapter, Dr Akpos Adesi and Ebipreye Egbeinpere, who are pressing criminal allegations against their fellow writers, insisting that the writers on the list be summarily locked up for the night on charges of breaking and entering the secretariat of the Association, and for impersonation.

Reacting to the development, Prince Nengi Josef Owei-ilagha, fondly called Pope Pen, stated that he was shocked to know that, rather than identify with the abiding achievements of Chinua Achebe at such a historic moment, some writers were more concerned about how to get other writers behind bars. "How would that make them write better?" wondered Pope Pen. "This is the most absurd scenario I have ever been confronted with in all my career as a writer."

"The petitioners seem to have forgotten that I am the pioneer Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors in Bayelsa State. That fact cannot be altered. It bears repeating that when I presided over the inaugural meeting of the Association in September 2001 at Intercontinental Hotel, Imgbi Road, Yenagoa, we were only twelve members and the people haunting us now were nowhere near becoming members of the Association.

"I cannot forget the overwhelming presence of our first patron, Dr Gabriel Imomotimi Okara of the River Nun fame, Africa's first acclaimed modernist poet, as well as Simon Ambakaderemo and Christian Otobotekere. All three elderly writers have gone the way of all flesh. As we speak, the remains of His Royal Highness Christian Otobotekere, our late patron, still lie in the mortuary, and my most urgent prayer is that Bayelsa writers would gather together as one united family and give the aged poet the befitting burial he deserves.

"So it comes to me as a surprise that some wrong-headed pretenders are bringing fatuous and unwarranted allegations born out of a mischievous cast of mind into play. Exactly who did I impersonate, and when? Why would I want to break into the secretariat of an Association I started twenty-two years ago? To say the least, I feel ashamed on behalf of Adesi and Egbeinpere, to say nothing of any other befuddled sponsor behind them. The fact of the matter is that the allegations being levelled against the fifteen writers are false, non-existent and unfounded.

"The Bayelsa State chapter of ANA does not exist in isolation. It is an authentic body of writers at the state level existing under a national executive led by Camillus Uka, which only recently hosted the community of writers around the world, in real and virtual time, to commemorate the legacy of Achebe at the Mamman Vatsa Writers'Village, Abuja. Anyone acting outside that hierarchy of authority is a desperate imposter out to hijack the Association. Events will soon prove that this petty plot hatched by Adesi and company failed even before it began," said the poet.

All seven writers were released on bail before the day ran out. The Bayelsa chapter of ANA is currently under the leadership of Murphy Biriabebe, a poet and lawyer.

IHRAF CONDEMNS CIVILIAN DISPLACEMENT IN SUDANESE CIVIL WAR
The African Chapter of the International Human Rights Art Festival (IHRAF) has expressed its deep concern and condemns the ongoing displacement of civilians in the Sudanese Civil War. The innocent people of Sudan continue to suffer the devastating consequences of this conflict, with displacement becoming a harrowing reality for countless individuals and families. IHRAF called upon all parties involved to prioritize the protection of civilians and adhere to international human rights standards.
In a statement issued by Wole Adedoyin, one of the Directors of IHRAF in Africa said, as an organization dedicated to promoting and defending human rights through the arts, IHRAF believes that every individual has the right to live in peace, security, and dignity. The forced displacement of civilians not only violates these fundamental rights but also perpetuates a cycle of violence and instability, hindering any prospects for sustainable peace in Sudan.
The scale of civilian displacement witnessed in Sudan is alarming, with millions of people forced to flee their homes in search of safety and refuge. These internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees face numerous challenges, including limited access to basic necessities such as food, clean water, healthcare, and education. The situation is particularly dire for women, children, and vulnerable populations who are disproportionately affected by the conflict.
IHRAF calls on all parties to immediately cease hostilities and prioritize the protection of civilians. It is imperative that the Sudanese government, armed groups, and international actors take decisive action to halt the displacement of innocent people. IHRAF urged the Sudanese authorities to provide safe havens and humanitarian assistance to those affected, ensuring their rights are respected and their needs are met.
Furthermore, IHRAF calls upon the international community to intensify efforts to address the humanitarian crisis resulting from the Sudanese Civil War. Increased financial support, humanitarian aid, and diplomatic engagement are urgently needed to alleviate the suffering of displaced civilians and provide them with the necessary resources for survival and eventual rehabilitation.
IHRAF also emphasizes the importance of accountability for human rights violations committed during the conflict. Perpetrators must be held responsible for their actions, and justice should be pursued for all victims. It is essential that national and international mechanisms are strengthened to ensure the prosecution of those responsible for grave human rights abuses.
In line with IHRAF’s commitment to utilizing the arts as a vehicle for social change, IHRAF encourages artists, cultural activists, and human rights defenders to raise awareness about the plight of displaced Sudanese civilians. Through their creativity and advocacy, they can shed light on the suffering endured by those affected and contribute to fostering empathy, understanding, and solidarity within the international community.
IHRAF remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote dialogue, reconciliation, and sustainable peace in Sudan. IHRAF stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan, particularly those who have been forcibly displaced and called on all stakeholders to work together towards a just and lasting resolution to the conflict.
