Politics / Where The Economic Impact Of Terrorism Is Strongest. Nigeria Is 3rd. (Pics) by systimax(m): 5:56pm On Jul 27, 2021 |
TERRORISM by Niall McCarthy, Nov 25, 2020 The economic cost of terrorism equated to a crippling 16.7 percent of Afghanistan's GDP last year. That is according to the new Global Terrorism Index from the Institute of Economics & Peace. Relatively speaking, no other country is impacted more, with the second most affected nation Syria at 3.4 percent of GDP. The situation in Iraq has improved hugely in recent years as the so-called Islamic State was ground down and ultimately driven out of the country. In 2016, for example, terrorism accounted for nearly a quarter of Iraqi GDP but that has declined hugely to just 1.1 percent. Business / Re: CBN To Supply FOREX To Banks Only by systimax(m): 4:51pm On Jul 27, 2021 |
In my opinion, what I feel this will do is that the CBN governor has introduced another layer of handling which will of course lead to multiple profiteering before it gets to the common man. The Commercial banks would also prefer to sell back to BDC before of profit and turnover. BDC will in turn add it's own profit and finally dictate what and when to re sell. It's just a pure circle of rat racing. 5 Likes |

Politics / Why Does The Nigerian Army’s Logo Have An Arabic Inscription? by systimax(m): 9:34pm On Jul 24, 2021 |
A SHORT HISTORY OF THE NIGERIA ARMY BEFORE INDEPENDENCE The Nigeria Army started in 1863 when the Imperial Governor of Lagos, Lt Glover of the Royal Navy gathered 18 Northern Nigerians to mount punitive expeditions to protect British trade routes around Lagos. This small force metamorphosed into the Hausa Constabulary and later formed part of the West African Frontier Force (WAFF). The visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Nigerian in a 1956 led to the renaming of the Northern and Southern Regiments to the Queen’s Own Nigerian Regiment (QONR). When later in that same year, Britain granted military autonomy to her dependencies, the QONR was re-designated the Nigerian Military Force (NMF), and at independence in 1960, the name changed to the Royal Nigerian Army. The present designation, Nigerian Army (NA), came into use when Nigeria assumed a Republic status in 1963. HISTORY AND MEANING OF ARMY MOTTO The adoption of the motto of the Sokoto Caliphate, as that of the Nigerian Army, was made by the British - before Nigerian Independence. One of the reasons was that the fall of Sokoto in 1903 - and the death of Sultan Attahiru - was (and in some circles, still is) inaccurately regarded by Western historians as the last formal battle in the fall of whatbecame "Nigeria". The highly symbolic Flag of THE Caliphate was captured by the British, recaptured BY gallant Sokoto Horsemen and recaptured again by THE British. It was kept for many years as a British trophy in one of the officers' messes in Kaduna but returned in a formal ceremony just prior to Nigerian Independence. The myth was spun and sustained by British tradition. However, "Nigeria" did not really fall in 1903. The Tiv of the middle belt of "Northern Nigeria", for example, were not militarily or otherwise pacified for at least another ten (10) years. Many pockets of resistance remained in present day "Southern Nigeria" - including Ekumeku and many others. Abeokuta lost its independence in 1914. Nevertheless, the symbolism of the events of 1903 became etched into official memory, as shaped by Dealtry Lugard, which is why the Northern Nigeria regiment and later the combined Nigeria regiment (when Lugard supervised the wedding of Northern and Southern Nigeria in 1914) adopted the Sokoto motto. Many indigenous pre-colonial Nigerian armies and nationalities resisted British rule. They all presumably had their own mottos, but Sir Lugard was preoccupied with his personal legacy as embodied by the subjugation of the Sokoto Caliphate and stabilization of the Anglo-French colonial frontier in the north. It is not the making of modern day "Northern Nigeria" or "Northern leaders" or "Leaders of Northern origin" or "Hausa-Fulani oligarchy or cabal" - as various writers suggest, that the motto of the Nigerian Army is that of the pre-colonial Sokoto Caliphate. Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 33yrs, ND Holder Without Job Experience ;any Hope? by systimax(m): 9:27pm On Jul 23, 2021 |
Apply for jobs in hotels. Don't include your age in your CV. Try to complete your education by doing your HND or DE. Don't ever let your age discourage you. Don't even think your age! Just continue to move, live happily. "Age is just a number" Very reasonable response like this is scarce on NL. May God bless you answer your prayers too. I believe wisdom comes with age. Thank you for giving us hope that Nigerians still have compassion to grow their Neighbors and unknown friends alike. Once again thank you. 4 Likes |

I clean her house daily with detol which I thought should give her the necessary protection against germs but what I am beginning to notice is that her hair are seriously falling. Have I caused damage to her? 3. She surprisingly eat her own poop in my presence last night...all! .. .and I didn't want to beat or shout at her. I think I need help Dr. |

Politics / Re: NLC Chairman is either ignorant of relevant laws or playing politics - Abia Govt by systimax(m): 12:08am On Aug 13, 2019 |
All I know for sure is that there is no single government presence on infrastructures and environment of Abia state. The state is in complete shamble, no drainage channel, smell and dirt has adorned every street as littering becomes normal. Local authorities are interested in milking millions out of the ever volatile looking citizens.....markets are smelling, roads are not motorable, civil servants and market men and women are not happy. A contrast of life is in neighbouring Ebonyi state......where the citizens blesses and pray for their Government. Abia is indeed the dirtiest state in Nigeria. I challenge anyone to do comparison of Abia and Ebonyi. 41 Likes 2 Shares |

This is absolutely a problem of "developed society" that has proudly paraded itself as" everybody face your business ". OP, if you check deeply, you will find out that all these lonely people has thousands of friends on Facebook, millions of followers on Twitter and IG, but in the real world they are but lonely. The feeling of being Lonely is a dangerous psychology issue and it's trauma would result not only to self inflicted damages but to danger to the society at large. This could possibly mean that the SE Nigeria has exported it's thinking and direction towards the creation of "happiness and purpose fulfilment.". |

MOTIVATIION FOR YOUR STRUGGLE: When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run, There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun; Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one, But the union makes us strong. Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, For the union makes us strong. Is there aught we hold in common with the greedy parasite, Who would lash us into serfdom and would crush us with his might? Is there anything left to us but to organize and fight? For the union makes us strong. Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, For the union makes us strong. It is we who plowed the prairies; built the cities where they trade; Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid; We stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made; But the union makes us strong. Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, For the union makes us strong. All the world that's owned by idle drones is ours and ours alone. We have laid the wide foundations; built it skyward stone by stone. It is ours, not to slave in, but to master and to own. While the union makes us strong. Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, For the union makes us strong. They have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn, But without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn. We can break their haughty power, gain our freedom when we learn That the union makes us strong. Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, For the union makes us strong. In our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold, Greater than the might of armies, magnified a thousand-fold. We can bring the birth a new world from the ashes of the old For the union makes us strong. Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, Solidarity forever, For the union makes us strong. 4 Likes 3 Shares |

The height of the inhumane treatment of the Senior staff cadre in the Food industry was the unprofessional responses by AFBTE (Employers), huge salary disparities (Junior staff earning more than senior staff), and inequality placement of NJIC %. What kind of Personnel Management training do you have to keep giving higher % (as much as 20%) to the Junior staff and very lower % to the senior staff cadre (11%) year in year out? Logically, AFBTE has been sitting on a gun powder keg for too long. Now or Never is the time. No going back. Please fight on guys! 2 Likes |
Career / PHOTOS: Tuc's Food Union (FOBTOB) In An Ongoing Nationwide Industrial Action. by systimax(m): 10:06am On Dec 08, 2017 |
The Food Industry wing, Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB SSA ) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Nigeria have started a nationwide industrial action on Thursday 7th, December, 2017. This is connected, among other demands to various redundancy exercises that has become trending recently in the industry. When speaking in an address to the employers in the Food Industry, (AFBTE), the National President of FOBTOB, who also doubles as the National treasurer of TUC, Comrade Olaleye Quadri, mentioned that the "master-slave attitude of the employers has got to stop". He further said, "because of the way the senior staff cadre of the industry was been treated as lab rat for anti-union activities, colleagues in the junior category are now very reluctant to wish themselves for promotion." The industrial action, which is gradually evolving to a total breakdown and disharmony has companies like Nestle, Guiness, Coca-Cola, Nigerian Breweries, Flour mills, Promasidor, Dangote flour, Friesland Camprina e.t.c as member. . Celebrities / Breaking News.: Former Heavyweight Champion Ali, Dies At 74 by systimax(m): 10:06am On Jun 04, 2016 |
Former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali has died, according to a family spokesperson cited by ABC and NBC News. Ali had been suffering from respiratory issues this week, apparently related to his Parkinson's disease, and was hospitalized in Arizona, according to sources cited by Reuters. "It's extraordinarily grave. It's a matter of hours," the source told the newswire service earlier Friday. Ali, 74, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in the 1980s, but remained active for much of the past 30 years, despite challenges caused by the neurological disease. News of Ali's rapidly deteriorating health Friday marked a significant downturn for the former boxer who's condition was described by doctors as "fair" the day before. Ali has been hospitalized several times over the years, most recently in early 2015. The Hollywood Reporter noted that he has looked "increasingly frail" in public appearances, "including April 9 when he wore sunglasses and was hunched over" during an event in Phoenix. Ali's daughter, Laila, who was an undefeated boxer herself, was reportedly among Ali's nine children with him at the hospital in Arizona. She thanked fans for their support and posted a baby picture of her daughter, Sydney, who was born in 2011, being held by the boxing legend. Despite the debilitating effects Parkinson's disease had on Ali's body, it never seemed to daunt the boxing legend's spirit. Ali remained a charismatic presence in public. A towering figure in his prime, he still traveled and made appearances in his later years despite being muted by the thousands of punches he took during his remarkable career. He beat the invincible Sonny Liston, fought a string of thrilling fights with Joe Frazier and stopped George Foreman in the "Rumble in the Jungle" in Zaire. But he paid a terrible price for the estimated 29,000 punches he took to his head during a career that made him perhaps the most recognized person in the world. Politics / South Africa Closes Consulate In Lagos, Fears Reprisals by systimax(m): 2:46pm On Apr 22, 2015 |
South Africa closes consulate in Lagos, fears reprisals APRIL 22, 2015 : FRIDAY OLOKOR, ABUJA Leave a Comment Following protests by Nigerians against attacks on foreigners in South Africa, the country on Wednesday announced the closure of its consulate in Lagos. The country’s Consul-General in Nigeria, Sam Monaisa, said this in a statement to the South African Business Forum. According to him, the closure would remain in force until Thursday. Although the situation in Durban has calmed down, he was concerned about the Nigerians that were being repatriated. Monaisa accused Nigerians of “using the social media to blow an already tensed situation in South Africa out of proportion and stoking emotions.” This was why Nigerians believed that their compatriots were being killed daily in South Africa, he said. He warned members of SABF, to stay alert and not move around unnecessarily. South African business concerns and citizens became targets of threats and acts of retaliation whenever xenophobic attacks occurred in South Africa, he cautioned. Meanwhile, South Africa’s cabinet has warned that companies operating in the rest of Africa might be targeted, just as Johannesburg-based Sasol Ltd. announced it was repatriating South African employees working on projects in Mozambique for their own safety.
