Though Jesus gave reasons as to why he spoke in parables to the unbeleievers; Mat 13:10-13 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. But I discovered that so many of the parables interpretations were not documented for we the modern day believers to pick out the literal meanings. Probably the cause of different interpretations of scriptures by different scholars today. I believe that the Holy Spirit can give several different interpretations to one scripture to different people depending on what they are searching for and it may be actually unnecessary to be disproving someone's interpretation of a particular scripture because you were not given that insight. In the light of this, how does a modern day believer know false or twisted interpretation of scriptures. Please Bible scholars throw some light. |

@Goshen360 In other words the faith you are talking of is the Faith that brings salvation, the very essence of Christ's death and resurrection. The end product which is eternal life. Agreed. But the faith models in the OT are patterns which to follow even in this NT faith. Look at it clearly, Abraham; an example of OT faith was said to be looking for a country whose builder and maker was God ... Heb 11:10. Today we have hope in a heavenly kingdom, whose builder and maker is God by our faith in Christ.... What is the difference? If they did not obtain this promise? What was the promise? Have they now obtained it? have we in the NT obtained this promise? Am loving this discuss. You do have some great insight in the scriptures though I don't agree with you on all issues. Kindly throw more light sir. |

eldoradoxx: Bishop Oyedepo last night again floored those accusing him of riping off church members through tithes and offering to live in affluence while cruising in private jets.@OP, I'm afraid you are wrong on the above quoted, you just mis-quoted Bishop Oyedepo. What he said was that Landmark University was built in seven months without taking any special offering in church. He didn't say what you quoted. As for Covenant University I am aware that special offerings were called for during the construction and several church members volunteered their services willingly during the construction. The Schools and Universities are owned by the Ministry. Come on, these are laudable ventures (Legacies) that the world will forever benefit from. Oyedepo won't live forever, but this legacies will remain a long time after. They may even go public. Every great institution that stood the test of time started someway. Bishop David Oyedepo's Contribution to his world cannot be pushed aside. Great men don't just think prosperity, they think posterity. 3 Likes |

Pastor Kun: All these vacant un verifiable claims of healing in winner's chapel yet Oledepo and all the other pentecostal leaders in Nigeria(including their Oga Adeboye) could not get healing for Oledepo's wife thru their 'prayers' and she had to be flown abroad and hospitalised for six months before she got better. If Oyedepo and Adeboye combined could not heal Faith Oyedepo of ordinary stroke why should we believe 'lesser' mortals can be healed of AIDS or SS anaemia in the shiloh charade. The only thing certain in shiloh is that Oledepo would make a lot of money.Mr Kun or whatever you call yourself, you will type anything to discredit whatever comes through Bishop Oyedepo. U are not different from the religious leaders of the days of Jesus even when healed the man blind from birth (John 9:1-36) they still would not believe, they concluded that Jesus was a sinner and God could not heal through him. Double portion of what? Is it not the limitless benevolence of God that can make one to go for a double portion. EG. Someone has 100; the double portion is 200. Another has 100,000 the double portion is 200,000. Yes God can do above what we may ask or think, but we must ask with specifics first. Don't always be too consumed with your attempt to proof Preachers wrong and go wrong yourself. Double Portion does not Limit God it means we are asking with specifics. or is it wrong to ask with specifics? The question should be double portion of what? Elisha wanted double of the auction of Elijah. (2 kings 2:9) It was hard, but God did it. The anointing is in measures (Eph 4;13), only Jesus was anointed without measure (John 3:34) We have access to a measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (The Anointed One) We can quantify our thirst for the anointing like asking for double the anointing of Christ we see operating in a Man. Paul said covet (ie. Look for the Best Gifts) Do you know what the anointing is? Please do a study and know that when it come to the anointing the term "Double Portion" is not out of place. Goshen360: Op,Nowhere in the scriptures is the believer called church, Paul said our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit not church. The church is clearly painted in scriptures as an organised body of believers in Christ with one purpose and one heart. It is not just a physical gathering, but a spiritual gathering for the purpose of corporate Worship that has great spiritual benefits to the one in attendance. Note: The body of 3 Million Jews liberated from Egypt were referred to as the church in the wilderness (Acts 7:38, Heb 12:22-24). Its an organised body, meeting in a chosen place, headed by a chosen leader, with the purpose of united worship and fellowship. It is not an online discussion forum. Most of u Scholars (Frosbel, Goshen360, Pastorkum etc) on Nairaland come here to teach your heresy; your main aim is to distort laid down tested and proven scriptural injunctions and deceive all those with itching ears and eyes. Somebody wants to justify his decision to stop going to church? you don't need to, just make your choice. Salvation is instant, but must be maintained through Holy living and Spiritual growth which attending the right church helps you to do. For me: Going to church is for my benefit. |

@ all anti tithe teachers on NL I know you are always ready for an argument. But your Legalistic arguments do not change tested and proven truths of scriptures. I agree that I can't bring out specific scriptures from the NT on tithing, but the NT without the OT is incomplete. The Bible is a complete book with the Old T and New T complimenting each other. You can also through the help of the Holy Spirit tap into fresh revelations from the old testament applicable to the new testament. For Example; Paul Quoted, Deu 25:4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.[/i] Which talks majorly on how to treat the animals that work on the field. But in Paul's quote he refered to humans working in the lords vineyard. 1 Cor 9:1-14 and also 1Ti 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1Ti 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. [i][/] These scriptures were culled from the OT and interpreted by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Just like you argue today, the Drs of the law in the days of Jesus also accused Jesus of twisting scriptures by the fresh revelations he was churning out. For Your information: Tithing was before the law. Abraham practised tithing (Gen 14:20) Jacob made a vow to tithe (Gen 28:22, 31:13) God didn't Forget it. God made it a Law (Lev 27:30) Jesus even asserted that it was ok to tithe, but they should not ignore the weightier matters of the Law Luk 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. [i] The second most successful king in Israel after David is probably Hezekiah. He was recorded to have reintroduced the tithing covenant and giving to the levites in his time, it brought great blessing and supernatural turnaround to the whole land. The Prosperity in the Church today is not by chance, there is a spiritual law working it out. However I must point out that the prosperity message has a great tendency to be overblown by many so called prosperity preachers today, but it does not mean its un-scriptural. @Pastorkum And @frosbel. Christianity is not a set of rules u follow without benefits. Tithing is scriptural and when you practice it in faith you will experience the blessings promised. It is not a subject of debate because it is scriptural. Have you not stopped to think that those that have remained faithful to their tithing for years must have some benefits they see to keep at it for so long? Your argument cannot change the personal experiences of practitioners of tithing and the personal encounter via the teaching ministry of the Holy Ghost to spiritual believers. The Bible is too deep for you to claim you understand scriptures all. One revelation in the word can rubbish all your theological theory. Think about this, how did Paul the Apostle know all he wrote in the epistles? By revelation of cause. The Scriptures is not for debate, it is for exercise in faith with proofs because nobody doubts proofs. I have personal proofs of the results of tithing and giving to the kingdom of God through the various covenant channels. Your continuous arguments and distortion of scriptures cannot change that. Jesus said; Luk 11:52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. If you won't follow the Biblical teaching on tithing? Don't. But stop trying to stop those who would. You can only enter this path and stay on this path by your walk of faith. Whatever is not done in Faith is Sin (Rom 14:23) 1 Cor 9:16-17 - Woe unto me if i preach not the gospel because it is my divine calling by the mystery of predestination (Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations). Paul was created for that purpose, he new he will be living a futile and unfulfilled life unless he fulfilled that divine purpose (Gal 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,....). Many don't know their divine predestination and hence have missed their destinations and suffer woes. 1 Peter 4:17-18 - God is saying simply he will not spare the church when we go out of line and bring his name to shame. God has always begun judgement with his people. Check the history of Bible stories. Its a warning to all church goers who care-less about their personal relationship with God that they will not be spared from the judgment of God. Why don't people do their homework well before speaking? Yes the cost of the universities are high because the cost of running any quality institution in Nigeria is high. But I know that they do give scholarships. The Land Mark University Opened in 2011 with various degrees of scholarships, 30%, 60% & 100% depending on the qualification of the applying students. I know several students in the system right now on scholarship. Do you know that Bishop Oyedepo operates a foundation that grants Bursaries to Hundred thousands of church members children every year? He couldn't have been fooling all these millions of members all these years. Many people on the street know that winners chapel is one of the few churches where you can receive financial aid easily as a member. There is something that has kept people following. Do your research well before you spill your ignorance for the world to see. God knows if I am not blessed spiritual, physically and all round being a part of the church body i would have left long ago. Do you know? Even Muslims want their children to attend these mission schools because of quality and discipline. It is not just about money, its about rolling out quality products. Keep doing what you do best on Nairaland; We had an awesome prophetic meeting with Bishop Oyedepo last tuesday. Nothing less than 30,000 in attendance. [/b][/i] If the Enemy is not Judged sometimes by death, the purpose of God on earth will be hindered or delayed. What do you say about this: 2Th 1:6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; To unleash vengeance on our enemies is a righteous thing to God. Luk 18:7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? Luk 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? There is nothing wrong in a believer praying for vengeance against his enemy. The only thing that the new testament opposes is taking vengeance by way of action. Jesus did not come to abolish the Old Testament, He came to Fulfill it. What we read from the old testament is very relevant today. |
