When in parralel voltage is kept low, hence higher capacity..
Series connection increase voltage and reduce capacity..

Capacity will reduce 4times since the voltage has been increased 4 times..

The Total capacity remain the same in both case but, 42AH looks big if you don't know the rated voltage...

Hint:
42AH is a capacity at 3.7V, which is the same as 14.8V at 10.5AH
But if he state 10.5AH it looks smaller

42 * 3.7 is 155.4Whours
14.8 * 10.5 is also 155.4Whour

But 42AH rated @ 14.8V is higher in capacity.. 621.6WH

Here we go, If the capacity is rated 42AH at 3.7V, we assume all cell with 3.7v are in parallel.

In order achieve 14.8v, 4 cell will now be in series 4s.. then parallel, that mean 42AH will be divided by 4. That is 10.5AH at 14.8v

Hint: if you have a 4 cell rated at 3.7v 2500mah, it simply mean 3.7V 2.5AH..
Connect in series you have 14.8V at 2.5AH
connect in parallel you have 3.7 at 10AH

For power or energy capacity simply multiply V X AH
14.8 * 2.5 is 37WH, same as 3.7 X 10

What can I power with 37WH?

if your appliance is 37w.. this battery capacity will last only 1hour
If your appliance is 3.7watts this battery capacity will last 10 hours

Yes.....the battery to ups connection fluctuated somewhere between 12.5 and 11.8 volts as at when I did the set-up years ago....

And that was the last time I saw the insides of both the battery and the ups

It's not like I am a technician or have any kind of engineering background....i just tinkered with it then according to the instructions I read on this forum and luckily, it worked

i would have done the reading again but I don't have a multimeter nearby..

The inec battery only has a 19volt And 30volt port by default....but I opened it up and created a 12volt connection inside it which is directly connected to the UPS and stays live even when the battery is switched off and only goes dead when the ups is switched off....and yes....the battery's factory ports can still be switched on irrespective of whether the ups is on or off

You will notice I didn't add a laptop to the stuff I use with the ups inverter...this is because i save battery power by powering and charging the laptop directly from the battery's 19volt port with one cable I bought for 500 naira or so....and this method powers my laptop for nothing less than 19 hours if the battery is fully charged..

...So yes....You did a wrong connection by connecting the inverter to the 19volt port if that's what you did....take your battery to any of these inverter technicians for them to creat a 12volt connection for you and you are good to go ..

By the way, the ups I used is the one that uses only one battery...i once tried a 300 watts blender on it for some emergency blending and it worked ...but the heat that emanated from the ups that day made me not to try it ever again...

The UPS is the inverter.....It is also connected to a light socket....so it seamlessly switches between Nepa and inverter mode automatically...

I did it myself after going through a thread here about such stuff sometime in 2014...

From the ibm laptop charger used to charge the battery to the battery itself and the ups, I havent replaced anything from the time I built it.. The only time I remember it's existence is when I am doing house cleaning and have to clean dust off the set-up

It powers a 37-inch led tv, a nexus rechargeable fan, a 50-watt bluetooth speaker if the tv is off, and multiple phone chargers for at least 5 hours when fully charged...and absolutley no reduction in capacity all these years.

So contrary to what some fellas here are insinuating, I manage power fine....So they should just point me in the direction of a deep cycle battery/ Inverter set-up that will give me such bliss for such a long time

Personally I feel expensive inverters are overrated

Once one is spending above 60k for an inverter set-up, the person is much much better off with a good and original generator

These deep-cycle batteries speedily lose capacity...some within months...and the set-up itself hardly goes a full year without having to fix or replace something

And Nigerian Inverter technicians are not helping matters either....i will just leave this one at this

At least with generators, as long as one has an original one, and maintains it well, there are hardly any problems....and there are very many fuel economical and soundproof generators in the market presently

I have been using a ups inverter and an inec 27ah li-ion battery to power my tv, Bluetooth speaker and phone chargers for almost 3 years without any significant reduction in capacity of the battery...and haven't replaced anything in the ups or the battery's charger .. ..but within just one year I went through 2 brand new 200ah deep cycle batteries and series of problems with a larger inverter set-up.

Your case may be different sha...but this is my honest opinion
