bloggernaija: I am surprised that the state has not limited access to social services to indigens.
Lagos state cannot continue to foot the bill for the entire country .
THE SW wants to send are nationals on pilot training programs and foriegn scholarships as well.
We cannot continue to carry other laggard states/regions on our back.
Lagos as it is, has over 1500 primary/secondary public schools.
That number is more than the no of school in any region of the country .
Many of the students are not even nationals of the SW ,Benin Kingdom,Edo state or citizens of Dahomey.
It is high time something is done about this situation.
A start will be for the FG to start deducting a percentage if the allocation given to states and regions with excessive numbers of migrants and handing same to enburdened states like Lagos .
As at 1994 ,over 1000 people a day were trooping into our little small island.
Only God knows what the nos are now with the reeking stench of fresh air polluting the country right now.

django1: If you're referring to me, I'll answer by saying I'm not a Lagos resident and I don't believe that "most" of the slum dwellers will be indigenous lagosians.

Uyi Iredia: Yes Lagos is expanding. How good is our city's physical planning ministry. Poorly, if you ask me, save for estates involving PPP and that is done by private companies, govt. Is doing badly in adequately attending to land issues and physical development. I think whitewashing, and at best, some minimal job is being done in that regard.



Good ! I don't think any govt. here deals with this VERY IMPORTANT feature. And why not ? 'Grand' as Abuja is it has failed in maintaining excellent physical planning and just manages to keep its incipient planning.



There are the ones who'll need PPP most. The govt. should use its leverage to get private companies and world bodies like the World Bank to bring funds it would faithfully use to improving their infrastructure to a minimal but acceptable standard, if it can't even make it good, again as seen in many private estates around.



They can. It would be waste though. But I suspect given talk here that huge funds were wasted on the Lekki road ish.

ba7man: They all came from somewhere. The Makoko slums started as a Fishing/ Logging outpost till it turned into a permanent residence to them.

I watched it grow to that size growing up. Its as a result of neglect that let things get that far.

bloggernaija: Why do people chose to live this wretched existence considering that many of these folks come from rural areas where they can live a life of dignity.
Many have family country homes and farms.is it a must to live in Lagos ?
They are also bearing too many children into this environment .

donphilopus: Nobody is supporting that ungodly act! We all rose to contempt it, so that doesn't mean we should now be attacking the governor as if he has done nothing in the state.

donphilopus: If the FG use the money of the those Armods to help most of the widows in Nigeria, I'm very sure Oshiomole won't even see that woman the very he told her to "go and die".

Abagworo: Not really. What Jonathan and his wife have done in Rivers State is no different. Nigerians need to act accordingly in this Oshiomole's verbal abuse. I'll wait for Dino Melaye, Wole Soyinka and other civil right activists to make their comments or I'll end up assuming that the civil society have actually sold their conscience to APC. Ironically Oshiomole was a popular civil rights activist.

^^^I think it has more to do with the person rather than the party! I don't imagine a Fashola or Rochas would be so mean either!
