Bill Gates, the world’s richest man, and Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook have lost 3.4 billion dollars to the decision of the UK voters to leave the European Union.

According to Bloomberg Billionaires ranking, both men were the worst-hit billionaires in the U.S., losing 1.8 billion dollars and 1.6 billion dollars respectively.


In context, the amount lost by Gates is more than the entire wealth of Nigeria’s richest woman, Folorunsho Alakija, who – according to Forbes – is worth 1.73 billion dollars.

Global markets erased another 69.2 billion dollars from the combined net worth of the world’s 400 richest people on the first trading day of the week after the Brexit vote, bringing total loss to 196.2 billion dollars in 48 hours. The pain on Monday was felt most by Europe’s wealthiest, as 92 billionaires lost 29.4 billion dollars, bringing their two-day decline to 81.7 billion dollars.

These 150 billionaires from the U.S. and Canada lost 26.7 billion dollars on Monday, and recorded a two-day total of 62.5 billion dollars. China’s 26 billionaires lost one billion dollars on Monday, bringing their two-day total loss to $5 billion, with a 7.4 per cent (18.7 billion dollars) decline in 2016. Georg Schaeffler, Germany’s third-richest person, fared the worst on the index with 1.9 billion dollars trimmed from his net worth.

Amancio Ortega, a Spanish retailer, who is Europe’s richest person, lost 1.5 billion dollars. While others lost, there were 69 billionaires on the index who added to their fortunes after the Brexit vote. Takemitsu Takizaki, founder of Osaka-based Keyence, a maker of electronic sensors, led the gainers with an increase of 579.3 million dollars. Tadashi Yanai, Japanese retailer and chairman of Tokyo-based Fast Retailing Co., was behind him with a 552 million-dollar rise. Nineteen billionaires on the index added more than 100 million dollars on Monday.

Femi Fani-Kayode’s spokesman, Jude Ndukwe, has revealed that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have threatened to killed his boss.


Ndukwe said, “the plan, according to our reliable sources, is for Fani-Kayode to be “punished” for his comments on national issues rather than for corruption as widely reported, Naij reports.

“Although the date for arraignment has been fixed for Tuesday, June 28, our investigations revealed that EFCC has no intention whatsoever to take the Ife-born chief to court, a situation that would force the court to adjourn for a long time. And with the three-month recess for judges around the corner, precisely starting on July 11, it is the plan of EFCC that Fani-Kayode would remain in custody till the judges resume sometime in October.''

Report had earlier surfaced that an EFCC operative identified as Kabiru Suleiman allegedly assaulted Fani-Kayode for praying while in custody of the agency.

“We will kill you and nothing would happen” he was said to have fumed without provocation,” the EFCC operative was quoted to have said.

Few days after a stepmother sliced off the penis of a baby boy, another one has been nabbed for poisoning her rival's baby.


A wicked woman based in Minna, Niger State, has been arrested after she allegedly fed her rival's new born baby boy with a poisonous insecticide known as Sniper, with the intention of killing the child.


According to reports, the woman who is a mother to three daughters, got angry after her rival gave birth to a baby boy, the first for her husband who shifted all attention to the boy.

The woman's anger could not be assuaged as she plotted to kill the innocent child and when the mother was out of range, she swiftly fed the boy with the killer substance but as God will have it, the mother, on coming back, met the boy gasping for breathe with a whitish substance coming out from his mouth.

The baby was rushed to a local hospital from where he was referred to the IBB Specialist Hospital where the poison was pumped out of his system though, doctors have faint hopes of his surviving.

Argentina and Manchester city footballer Sergio Aguero and Barcelona player Javier Mascherano have followed Lionel Messi to quit international football after suffering a heart breaking Copa America final loss to Chile early this morning.



Messi, who lost his second cup final with Argentina in two years, was the first to retire from International duty and now Mascherano and Aguero have also followed suit, with reports in Argentina suggesting that Angel Di Maria, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Gonzalo Higuain and Lucas Biglia could all also quit.
Messi said: “For me the national team is over. I’ve done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion.
“My thinking right now and thinking about it in the locker room, I’m done playing with the national team.”
Speaking after the game, Aguero said: “”There are several players who are evaluating not continuing with the national team.
“This is the worst locker room I’ve ever been in, worse than the final in the World Cup in Brazil and the other Copa America.”
