vs The stage is set @ the emirates for the return leg of the round of 16 fixture between the gunners and fc porto. Fc porto visit the emirates with a slim advantage having won 2-1 @ home under controversial circmnstances. the gunners are without captain cesc fabregas(hamstring) as they look to better fc porto and qualify for the 1/4 finals. Wenger will rely on andrey arshavin and B52 to do the damage upfront, while the likes of nasri, walcott, and diaby offer support from the mid field. Alex song is also available for this fixture and will be in charge of breaking down pressure before it gets to the defence. I forsee Wenger playing a defence line comprising Clichy, vermaleen, campbell, and eboue. injuries/unavailable players:the gunners are without fab 4,RVP,djorou,gibbs and ramsey. porto visit the emirates, looking to break their london jinx, porto have never won on any of their previous trips to london. porto will rely on the skills on hulk to provive the neccessary threat up front. the squad list expected for porto: Helton, Bruno Alves, Raul Meireles, Guarin, Belluschi, Falcao, Rodriguez, Mariano, Hulk, Fucile, Rolando, Alvaro Pereira, Maicon, Varela, Nuno André Coelho, Tomás Costa, Miguel Lopes, Ruben Micael and Nuno. head to head: FC Porto vs Arsenal head to head stats: 2008/2009 CL G FC Porto - Arsenal 2:0 2006/2007 CL FC Porto - Arsenal 0:0 2009/2010 CL FC Porto - Arsenal 2:1 Arsenal vs FC Porto head to head stats: 2008/2009 CL G Arsenal - FC Porto 4:0 2006/2007 CL Arsenal - FC Porto 2:0 2005/2006 TOUR AMS Arsenal - FC Porto 2:1 it's gonna be a tough 1, but i see the red and white army qualifying for the 1/4 final. |

True it was a horrible tackle but d person involvd matters. If such tackle was aimed at Drogba, he may come out unharmed, but these Arsenal players are young, and when exposd to some kinds of tackle it results in horrific sights. Arsenal is nt a target. Yet refrees should try to protect these youngsters from some 'shaw' monsters! Diaby, eduardo, now ramsey, all in the last 4-5 season, yet you don't "accept"? na wah for you o! |

Kgdavid: Its either most of you are just talking without having actually seen the footage or you have never played football before or you are frustrated arsenal fans looking for a way to vent your anger. that was a typical 50 50 tackle and the ref was not going to give shawcross a card till he saw that the foot was broken. it would be clear to anyone who knows football that this was nothing but an accident. i feel sorry for ramsey as he is such a promising footballer and thankfully he has access to top class resources so hopefully he will be back in the not too distant future. guys this is the reality of professional football. now you're the one who didn't take a good look @ the footage, the tackle looked more like a 60-40, ramsey had gotten the ball before that dolt kicked him, and he swung like he was kicking a mortal enemy. this isn't about being an arsenal fan, this is about being a footie fan, is it until someone actually dies from such tackles, before some people develop the brain cells to know such tackles should be discouraged? |

it's a pity we have savages in our midst. for people to try to make shawcross' tackle on ramsey look so ordinary, saying "he's not that kinda kid", it hurts me. but the one that hurts me most is sir alex defending the bloody brute, I wonder what he'd have said if shgawcross had kicked rooney instead? the old man woulda shot shawcross between the eyes.
@dk/akinlabi and any other nairalander that did not see that the tackle was premeditated (ok maybe not to hurt ramsey to that extent, but premeditated all the same), I pray it never happens to one of your players, cos if it does and you complain, I'll be right here to give you hell. |

Clichy - We never doubted title credentials
* Paddy Power 11/4 AFC win the Premiership Free £20 Paddy Power bet * Champions League 11/1 Arsenal win Champs Lge Bet £10 get £20 Free *
By Chris Harris
Gael Clichy insists that Arsenal never gave up hope of winning the title - even when they slipped nine points behind the leaders last month.
Arsène Wenger's side were written off as Premier League also-rans following back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Chelsea. The second of those setbacks left Arsenal well adrift of their London rivals, but successive wins over Liverpool, Sunderland and Stoke have reduced the gap at the top to just three points.
Suddenly Clichy and company are right in the thick of the title hunt again and he, for one, is not surprised. According to the French left-back, the Arsenal squad never lost belief and never doubted their ability to bounce back.
"People were saying we were not good enough, when we were playing Manchester United and we lost against Chelsea, but we kept the confidence really high because we know we have the players and the quality to do it," said Clichy, speaking at Arsenal in the Community's 25th anniversary celebrations.
"When you play for a team like Arsenal, you want to be the best and to be the best is to compete week-in, week-out against any team in the league.
"Of course, when you find yourself 11 points behind the leaders [as Arsenal were in November], you ask yourself: 'It’s going to be really difficult. Are we capable of doing it?' and a few weeks later you find yourself back in the title race and that’s a good feeling.
"So that shows you the character in the squad and, once again, with the players we have, I’m sure we can do it. It’s going to be difficult, but I’m sure we can."
Of course, Arsenal have been here in the recent past. Wenger's side set the pace at the top of the Premier League for much of the 2007/08 campaign only to fall away in the home straight. The Gunners are coming from off the pace on this occasion and Clichy is determined to fight to the finish this time.
"Two years ago was a good chance," he reflected. "We stayed at the top of the table for seven months and we finished not strong enough and we didn’t win anything at the end.
"I don’t know if this year is the best opportunity, but certainly it can be a good year for us, if we can maintain our performance. We’ve played the big teams so now it’s down to us to show people we want it and we’re ready for it. We will try to grab the chance to win something.
"If we win our games we have a really big chance of doing something this year, so that’s all that matters to us, to take game after game and show people that we can perform week-in, week-out." http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/clichy-we-never-doubted-title-credentials |

@A-40 maybe you should go watch that Carling cup final again, diaby made contact with the ball before making contact with terry's head, and thankfully he didn't put too much force into his kick. the only reason terry even got kicked in the head is that he was being his normal dare devil self.
if my memory doesn't fail me,terry was fit enough to come celebrate with his mates when they won the cup. |

There is nothing be sadistic about supporting the physical and robust side of football. and what's fair about making an unnecessary tackle that puts an opposing player out of action for close to a year? this is football and not kick boxing. |

@akinlabi what then is the motive of fifa preaching the gospel of fair play? after all football is just a contact sport. players can just break each others bones it don't matter, footie is a contact sport. right? listen to yourself you sound like a sadistic person. |
