Don't be ridiculous! The man is a much older male and is expected to be much stronger. Using his might on her is enough for her to fear for her life and any weapon she lays her hands on can be used in that desperate situation. When you feel your life is in danger, every force is allowed, it doesn't matter if the person endangering your life is using a weapon or bare hands. In the case in question, the man is certainly old enough to elicit that level of fear in the girl even without any weapon.

There’s an article in the law that states the means you use to defend yourself shouldn’t exceed the force used to attack you, ie if I attack you with a stick, and you defend yourself with an axe, it’s no longer self defense.
