Arsène Wenger believes his Arsenal side are growing up.

The visitors withstood significant Bolton pressure at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday before coming away with a 2-0 win. If they repeat that scoreline in the return game at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday they will be top of the table.

For Wenger, the win was another indication that his young team now have old heads on strong bodies.

“Over the years our strength has increased,” he said afterwards. “It is always a fully-committed game at Bolton but we showed we have matured. We know when to go for the fights and we know when to put the ball down. We needed special qualities to come away with a victory.”

As heartening as the win was, Wenger realises it will be hard to get to the top and harder to stay there. The real test, he argues, is just beginning.

“At the moment there is a trend in the League that we can believe in,” said the Frenchman. “But the second part of it is producing a great performance in every game from now on."
