FamilyRe: Is It Proper For A Woman To Build Her Own House? by TayoUK(m): 1:59pm On May 18, 2009
I can’t think of any reason why woman can’t build her own house in Nigeria if she’s capable of doing so but just make sure it’s with your husband’s blessing. Both of you need to consent to it to avoid any future problem. He might want to convince you of another way to use the fund but somehow I believe wise women have their own way of getting what they want even when we don’t totally agree with it. Any man should be proud of a woman with such idea and not slain her. It takes two in a marriage to make such decision though but in 2009, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it if you can afford it. Just don’t do it without telling him if you are both still madly in love except if you think you both have no future together and this is all about planning your escape route wink
Good luck!
Nairaland GeneralRe: How Morally Justified Is It To Log Onto Nairaland From Your Place Of Work. by TayoUK(m): 4:47pm On May 15, 2009
It’svery very morally justified smiley and you cant just be working for the whole 8hrs, that’s why we have tinyurl, facebook and twitter etc, so that you can take your mind away from work issues when your manager is not looking, if not we can all just go crazy sitting behind our desk working like a slave all day. We are not robots smiley! This is one of big discussion in UK media recently when some employers blocked access to social networking sites.

I’m so glad that Nairaland is not blocked on the corporate site of my work like other sites I mentioned above but trust me, as long as I get my job done, I won’t feel guilt for surfing the net and viewing an educative site like Nairaland where I can reach my people from other parts of the world.

No employers reading this will be happy but it’s a very interesting question, hope you get more response and then make up your mind.

PropertiesRe: What Important Factors Do You Consider When Purchasing A Property In The Uk by TayoUK(m): 12:43pm On May 15, 2009
Hi Charles,
I think you need to be more specific about the purpose of the property. Is it property for personal use or for investment?
I’m not an Estate Agent but having just bought a property recently after viewing more than 40 flats and houses, I can give you some ideas of what I think most people living in London will consider when buying a property:

• Transport is one of the major factors you need to consider when buying property in UK. You don’t want spend hours travelling to work every day. So tube, train and maybe 24hrs bus service (if you are a night person) might be number one on the list. You don’t want to £50 for black cab every time you miss the last train on a night out and whoever is willing to rent will really consider this too. Having your property in a walking distance to tube/train station will automatically add values to the price of the property.

• Space is also very important. Most of the new builds have small rooms and the ceilings are ridiculously low. So some people prefers Victorian building with really large space, high ceilings and as most English peoples refer to them, ‘houses with characters’. So either you are buying a flat or house for personal or investments, the size of the rooms are very important. You might also want to consider the size of the garden too if you have kids or if you are one of those people that like BBQ parties whenever there’s little sunshine.

• Location is also one of the most important things to most people. I think this should have come first really on this list because the size of your wallet will determine where you want to live or invest but the closer you are to Zone 1 the more value your property would have. Maybe I’m wrong about this but 1bed flat in Zone 1, around Baker Street is £450k while you can get it for less than £200k in Zone 4. Some people put the safety of their children first and decide not to buy in a known crime/gang areas, like Peckham and Hackney(sorry guys, it’s official smiley )

• Also- Are you buying outright or it’s going to be mortgage? Most of you guys always come from Naija to buy outright anyway. You can choose to buy a very old house at cheap price, renovate it and resell it to make profit. Buying such properties from auction is also an option but you really have to know your game to do that.

They are not limited to these lists but they are just what pop to my head at mo and I’m sure others will add to it but individual requirements are different. If you have the money, I cant think of a better time to buy in UK than now because the property market is shit and the prices are falling in some areas and if you have more than 20% deposit, the banks will fall over each other to offer you mortgage. Property investment is one the best anywhere in the world but why UK and not our fatherland? shocked

Go for it and good luck!
AutosInterested In Haulage Business? Check This First! by TayoUK(op): 11:16am On May 15, 2009
I have got these two trucks in the pictures below arriving Lagos on the 7th of Next month from UK. The truck head (cab) is 44tons and the tipper is capable of 32tons load both are DAF 95XF and DAF 85CF (tipper) respectively. They are both in a very good working condition, first registered in 2001 and can be inspected upon arrival in Lagos so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want to view and inspect them.

I’m based in London, so I won’t be able to manage vehicles myself on daily basis and having mitigated all  the risks involved in this business, I hope with the help of you guys in this forum, I’m looking forward to give these vehicles to an established company (ies) based on your recommendations for weekly or monthly payments.

Please kindly get in touch if you are in to this business and you want to add more to your fleets or if you have contacts or links and advice you can give regarding this. Every little helps I can get will be greatly appreciated.

My contact details are: tycollins2000@yahoo.com / 00447852115666.

KMVBO-I'm removing my post and pictures of the that truck from this thread to start it as a new topic so that anyone responding to your post won't get confused with the pictures.
Sorry about that but please do let me know how you get on.

From my enquiries so far, I think you can get up to 400k for each.

Goodluck bro!
AutosRe: Wanted Serious Dealers!i Need A Truck Urgently by TayoUK(m): 3:57pm On May 14, 2009
Do you still need these trucks? I have two trucks and they are arriving Lagos on the 7th of June.
BusinessShould I Sell This Truck Or Give It To Company To Manage It For Monthly Return? by TayoUK(op): 6:31am On Apr 23, 2009
This truck will be in Lagos by middle of June
Here are the details of the truck:

DAF XF 95.430 6x4

44 tons/44,000kg

Year of first registration is 2001

Mileage 650,000

Right hand drive

Should I sell this truck or should I lease it to a company for monthly payment, maybe for a period of time?

I reside in UK and I won't be in Nigeria to be managing this truck myself so I need to give it to company that will be paying me quarterly or monthly, depends on our agreement or lease terms. Also, I can sell this truck, come back to UK to buy another one and bring it down again to resell it.

In the long run, which of these two options do you guys consider to be good investment?

Note: I'm not in hurry to make this money back right away.

How much will it cost to resell this truck?

If leased to a company, how much am I likely to be making every month? Can you recommend any company?

I would really appreciate your responses and mostly from whoever is into this type of business.

Cheers, Tayo

I'm bringing a right hand drive truck (DAF XF 95.430) to Lagos from UK.

Can anyone recommend a very good mechanic to change it from right-hand drive to left-hand drive?

Any idea how much this will cost?

Your suggestions will be much appreciated
