spoilt:Well said Spoilt Please dont let Owu gal distract us from this interesting topic |
@ Owu gal :I think we are better off dealing with this type of matter without involving or referring to any verses in the holy books. That’s one of our problems in Nigeria and that’s another topic entirely. I won't argue with you about the depression thing but apart from mortgage issue, there are loads of other things to cause depressions in the western world, I think I know that much. @Poster: Yes, I do agree with Dis Guy, this is 2009 and I think Nigerians just need more education in this area and you will agree with me that there's nothing wrong with borrowing especially when utilised in a very good way. Sometimes you are better off when on mortgage than when renting. The repayment is sometimes the equivalent of rent (in some cases). Paying rent and at the same time trying to save up for your own home might be very difficult for an average Nigerians and that’s why many old people never actually own their own home. There’s more chance of you leaving your kids with a mortgage-less house than debt when you die and imagine how much that will mean to them especially in Europe or US and even in Nigeria. I think the main reasons why mortgage /loan system is not really feasible in Nigeria is because of lack of Credit Check Agencies and the fact that it’s easy to change your identity at any given time you are default on repayment. That’s why the rich will always get richer because they have access to this facility more than average Nigerians. Bank would be ready to listen to you if they know you are securing your borrowing on something. The interest rate is really outrageous though but still if you can afford the repayment, you are better off renting. All these are just my views though and it doesn’t mean I’m right but I would rather be a mortgaged homeowner now than waiting until I’m 70yrs before I can afford to actually put a roof on the house that I started the foundation 40yrs ago. My opinion! We only live once! |
How much of this money do you have? You are proposing investment of about 1.6 million pounds and I think you must be able to convince potential investors who's interested, how well established you are on your own. Just my thought though. Good luck! |

I’ll be in Lagos for a period of 10 days this month. Can anyone recommend the best internet service to use both on my laptop and iphone? Which of the mobile phone SIM cards offer the best internet or unlimited browsing? I can take two different service providers, one for the mobile phone and the other for the laptop (wireless preferable) if there's no bundle available for the two. The cost won’t be an issue but fast connection and reliability is what really matters to me. Thanks |
I'll be in Lagos on Monday. Send me an email and I'll send you a contact number. By then, I'll be able to sit down with the guy who's helping me with mine and get a quote for you |

Dis Guy:Thanks bro |
I have a friend who's trying to ship a truck and I'm sure she would welcome the idea of sharing a container with you. Call me 07852115666 or send me your number and I'll ask her to give you a call to see how you two could save some money. Good luck! |
@Poster Knowall: You are a true hustler like millions of other Nigerians and this is a very good point you are raising here, especially for the people outside Nigeria. I’m sure that this thought is going through so many Nigerians head. At least the ones ready to take up a new challenge, the ones ready to step out of that comfort zone that abroad offers and the ones that are not only looking at every bad side of Nigeria. I can’t blame people that don’t want to take that risk of going back to Nigeria to try something new, there’s no better teacher than personal experience and that might be the reason some people still believe that Nigeria is still a shit hole. Nigeria is a developing country and there are so many opportunities out there and from our experiences abroad, we can somehow make good use of that to establish successfully there. (Maybe with a little bit of luck) Some people with no good adviser are still trying to get UK visa for more than a million naira while some will start a very good business with half of that money. Who no go, no go know you have seen abroad and this topic is not about telling everyone that’s not all bed of roses but we thank God for the opportunity.Let’s look at it this way, 10yrs ago, you won’t dream of ATM (cash machine) in the streets of Nigeria (maybe I’m wrong) but that out of many other things happening there right now will convince you that it might take time but the country is definitely changing and for good too, the question is, do you want to be part of the system while it’s changing or you prefer to just sit in already developed and recession ridden countries. I know what my option is . My manager asked me last week if this global recession is affecting Nigeria, I told him, what’s recession? I just laughed; I said Nigeria has been in recession since I was born. Or maybe someone out there can prove me wrong by telling this forum when was the last time in Nigeria we only have 5% unemployment of the total population? I’m sure unemployment in Nigeria was never less than 20-30% and with no opportunity of any government offering any benefit to any unemployed families. That’s our country, that why we are all smart, either in good or bad way, depends on the way you want to look at it. Most of us grew up from the family that can’t afford three-square meals a day. l won’t forget fighting with my brother every Easter and Xmas for whose turn chicken head is, because our parent can only afford chicken during the festive time. I can buy cow now if that’s what my problem is but the fact that I have the opportunity of eating a whole chicken meal for lunch now won’t stop me from looking far ahead and won't forget all that country have to offer. I'm amazed how much the country have developed. Take this internet/forum we are using for example, think of how many people you can reach out to? Some people are happy living from hand to mouth, working everyday for overtime, and work to pay off the mortgage at the age of 70 (if you are not paying just interest only) before you start enjoying your life and the pension. And the fact you even overdraft showed you have a good credit history, LOL. One of the guys said in this thread that you have to make sure you sort your permit out. Yes, this is important too, in case it all go wrong but please just don’t do it just because your friend did it and get away with it. You have to be mentally ready for it because it might not start smoothly as you think but if you apply all your knowledge, education and experience from travelling abroad and didn’t go to Nigeria, trying to change the system, the sky might be your limit. It’s happening over there now. I have so many guys that left this country and doing very well over there in Nigeria and there are others who ran back but the percentage of people running back are small compare to people going back there. Nigeria is not good but it’s our country and you only see what you want to see there, i think that's the trick. If you are after the good side of Nigeria, there are so many things to inspire you and if the bad side is what you are after, trust me, you will find so many too and you might even decide not to talk to Nigerians abroad. Just like any other country in the world, we have our bad side we are working on and it will never be totally eradicated. Good luck to everyone and sorry for the long reply, just a very good interesting topic and I can just go on and on, ![]() |
I think there’s limitation in every country but in Nigeria, with small tips, you can get away with any amount with no question asked. There was a time a guy came to UK with 100 thousand pounds to invest in property. He was allowed to leave Lagos with the money and there was no problem when he got to Heathrow. After finishing with what he came to do in London, he was left with about 13 thousand pounds and you know what he was told at departure? He was told he’s not allowed to leave the country with more than 10 thousand pounds cash. That’s how bizarre our own system is in Nigeria. |
0044 2082997700 Call that number and ask of Natalia or Lisa and they should be able to assist you. But you have to get them the measurement of what you are sending before they can give you a quote. They have vessels departing from Tilbury almost every other week. Hope that helps |

Simple answer to your question is NO |
Another funny question made it to the home page Why would you give up love of your life because of tattoo? It meant different things to everyone and the only way I might be worried is if it has something to do with her ex but apart from that, it's 2009, not 1889 ! so start getting use to it bro!I'm sure guys like you would prefer the girl to tattoo your name on her forehead ![]() |
Romeo4real:Well done to Romeo4real, you nailed the question! And to the poster: @Shasha009, relationship or marriage is complicated enough and having to deal with colour issue make it more complicated but your happiness is the most important thing, regardless the colour of the guy skin. So dont take that for granted! You already cleared where I would have had an issue with you by saying that ‘'Does the skin color matter so much? To me it doesn't really matter because I believe we’re all the same inside’’- Well said! White or black guy, we are all the same, believe it or not, they can’t treat girls better than us, we are as romantic and caring as them too and some of them are just as bad as any black guys will be, not just black Nigerians. Because I believe you are not only referring to black Nigerians in this post and whichever part of the world you are, there must have been some born and bred blacks there too that would probably have the same background and culture with these white blokes in question, (except if you are in Eastern Europe, LOL ) I have seen the way some white blokes treat their girls and I said to myself, not even my old man would do that. I’ve seen both sides of a coin and I can clearly understand your plight but just try not to restrict yourself to your comfort zone. With your families not supporting you, it’s a big issue but maybe you will take an inspiration from this that it might not really be because he’s white but just the fact that our parents just find it very difficult to cope with the fact that we are going out with someone of totally different culture to ours. I have a friend who moved to London with her parent more than 25yrs ago. Her father was a lecturer in one of London Universities and her mum was a nurse but they are threatening to disown her now if she marries an Ibo guy that she has been with for more than 5yrs against their wish. They are both black Nigerian-British citizen professionals (so no paper issues ) but still, her well educated parent, (now retired back to Lagos) are still insisting she marries a Yoruba guy. It can be as bad as that with our parents, so with time, if your families see how much happy you are with your choice, they’ll accept it. Good luck! JamaicanQT:Nice one! |
Here are the pictures of the trucks if you have any expert you can recommend. Thanks!
|
Midas02:Thanks a lot bro! |
Uchek:Thanks for your contribution Uchek, if these vehicles are officially banned from Nigeria, they will not be allowed into the country from any ports in Nigeria and there are hundreds of UK vehicles coming to Nigeria everyday. It's not illegal and until it's officially banned, people will continue to bring them. I really don't know or can't think of any particular reason why you are having a go at me over what you know nothing about. Both trucks will somehow provide employment for some people and put food on some families table, how else can we contribute in YOUR OWN little way? By constructing underground train stations? Comot there ![]() Yes, there are many left-hand drive cars in the UK from Europe and America, if you can pay the excessive taxes on them, why not. I used my SUV from US for more than 6mths before I sold it, so I'm telling you what I know much about. Take care anyway |
Hi bro, Please how much can you clear these two vehicles? The tipper is loaded with two cars, Golf and Camry. Thanks
|
Any recommendation will be appreciated |
The poor girl deserves someone better than you from my own point of view. What sort of question is that? And I think you are wayward yourself for approaching your girl's neighbour with such question. I bow for you o! |
