Ikenna351:

I gathered that the pp2000 doesn't work on all 307 models. Could be the reason why yours refused to connect. Or has it started connecting with the ECU?

Ikenna.

I think the connectivity issue had to do with the newer versions of the Diagbox. So I downgraded my diagbox version and its connecting quite fine now.

Ikenna351:

Is Lexia 3 not the same with PP2000/Diagbox?

Ikenna.

The parent Software Suite for Peugeot and Citroen is called Diagbox. Just like the parent software Suite for Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint etc is called Microsoft Office. Then within the Diagbox Suíte, The software for Citroen is called Lexia, while that for Peugeot is called PP2000.
The scantool hardware for both Peugeot and citroen remains the same as far as I know. however you have to choose PP2000 to scan a Pug, or Lexia to scan a Citroen. That notwithstanding, i think any Peugeot dealer worth his onions should know both lexia and PP2000 since they come together in the same software suite
Hope I made sense. I'm not so good at explaining things.

Ikenna351: I was passing ASD motors at Area 7 this morning, so i decided to peep in. I walked straight to their store and asked them if they have Lexia 3 and how much. They were just staring at me as if i was speaking French. Are they not suppose to understand French sef?! Lol!

Anyway, i was suprised to see brand new 406 & 206 in their show room for sale. Hmm! Thought their productions have stopped. Probably old stock.

Ikenna.

Lolz.... Its not just in abuja o. Even Autostar in Enugu does not have the full dealer software (according to an insider sha) though I think they have Lexia but not the full dealer version as you can atleast get your car scanned there. This remphasizes the problem I have with Nigeria. Even when you take you Pug to some premium dealerships like ASD or Autostar, you pay exorbitant amounts for sub standard services. So how will ASD diagnose a Pug with the CEL on?? Wish someone as meticulous as Siena would open an Auto workshop in Naija. I'll be his first custome no matter how expensive...

Trac:

The fellow is concerned about cost of ownership and maintenance and you are recommending the C43; how corny - truly, how corny.

Thats not quite right. I am not concerned about the cost of ownership/maintenance. My problem with Naija is that even when you pay premium for services, you still hardly get quality. Can you remember the thread where a NLander was complaining about rust in a brand new Ford he bought from coscharis? I also have friends with worse stories from toyota and peugeot authorized dealerships.
These days I have to order almost all my replacement parts for my small peugeot from abroad and directly supervise the mechanic fixing it (even though the workshop looks sophiscated and classy).
The reason I was asking about the w124 being a DIYer was that I do not know of an authorized mercedes dealership around here with the expertise to work on the car in my axis. ( i live and work in Uyo and driving to abuja or lagos (more than 10 hours each) to get my car fixed or serviced is a bit impractical). The Mercedes plant in Enugu has been shut down for quite a while now (ANAMCO).
I appreciate your expert merc savvy but your tone sounds a bit condescending... we no dey quarrel o...

Ikenna351:

How bad is the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway? Because i will soon drive on it in 2 weeks time.

Ah! I missed the Okpa. You just reminded me of what i used to enjoy back then in the East.

I hope the 9th mile will be this free during Xmas holiday. I hate spending hours there, when my car has done 7 hrs high speed drive on Abuja-Enugu highway.

Ikenna.

The Enugu-Onitsha Express way is motorable...and way better than the Enugu-Port Harcourt Express but only up to Nkwelle Junction (Before the toll gate) where you have to detour and enter Onitsha through the FGGC Onitsha/ GRA axis. If you decide to drive through the toll gate, then you're on you own o... from traffic jam at the new flyover to having to keep switching lanes even to being arrested by the infamous "Ndi mpiawa azu" (Task force) for as much as braking to ask for directions.

Ninth mile is probably going to be horrible this christmas, because even when I drove there during my first trip,I almost spent an hour there because of ongoing road repairs. From my picture, you will notice that only one lane is in use. I forsee the major problem just to be at the NInth mile junction itself... further down the roads are now good up to the new market flyover where it becomes a bit bumpy again if you decide to drive through new market. If you however decide to drive straigt on through trans ekulu junction/82 Div, then its a very very smooth stretch.

A lot of the potholes on the Enugu-Okigwe axis of the Enugu-PH Express have been patched up-courtesy of FERMA.
I don't think they have started between Okigwe and Umuahia. I didn't want to find out the hard way so I took my usual detour through the Old Okigwe-Umuahia Road that I showed in my first pictures on this thread.
Its at least a Start...

Travelled to Anambra State last weekend but didnt take so many pics while driving-I'm still waiting for my dash mounted camera to arrive.
Stopped at Ninth mile to get plenty Okpa. The place is famous for its lovely tasting Okpa
For our non-Igbo Brethren Okpa is a local delicacy, kinda like a very thick pudding (like Moi-moi) made out of Bambara groundnuts. Tastes lovely

Ouch... There goes my dream.... sad sad
I do not know of any Merc dealerships here that would be up to the task of maintaining an old Merc. I have seen a few Merc franchises in Lagos but they only work on the newer Benzes.
What of the W211 Merc E500...?? Is it any better? As regards maintenance or DIY?
The price seems fair enough, though one might be quite lucky and find a very cheap specimen in Cotonou, such Cars are usually very cheap there because there is almost no demand.

As for the W211 E500, I saw a cheap neat LHD specimen on @ about 4000 Pounds on Gumtree.com, though I actually won't buy a Car online without having it checked out by a savvy person.

THe major issue, however, is not buying the car, no matter how expensive it is, but maintaining it. So if both the W124 and the W211 E500s are going to cost an arm and a leg to run, then I probably would have to settle for less... is the W124 E320 a good compromise between performance and running costs? is there a W124 E400?

Hello Adex. Please I have an enquiry to make.

I want to import a 1994 Mercedes E500 (Basically the top model of the Mercedes 'V Boot').
Problem is obviously that it is older than the 15 year age limit on cars which are allowed into Nigeria.
Is there any legal way of overcoming this and paying normal custom duties... or must it absolutely be smuggled in?
Thanks for your help.

Siena:

I'll be back to this thread bro.

Thanks Siena. Am eagerly expecting your contributions. Am seriously considering getting the cheapest, but well used one I can find. I probably would also have to battle with nigeria customs since it is above the 15yr age limit imposed on normal import vehicles in Nigeria. Would probably have to open up another thread to ask some of the clearing agents on NL how to go about this.
The decision to buy will however be mainly based on expert reviews and the practicality of being able to maintain it without bending over backwards too much.

Ikenna do you take me up on my offer... E500 vs your 605 or 505v6. (406 v6 is much younger.... Dem no dey the same class.. ;-) ) just joking abeg.

Derailers, or people talking thrash on my thread will be dealt with one by one.... Lol

Car Talk / Getting A Facelift Mercedes W124 E500... Advice please! by tdie: 6:44pm On Dec 03, 2012
Hi All,

All the talk about Car racing on the Abuja Car street racing thread has gotten me all fired up... I Had always wished to get myself a Mercedes w124 E500 and maybe now is the time to start making some serious moves.

I do however have a few questions which i would appreciate if they are answered by the pros on this section (as regards the mechanical questions) and the dealers (as regards pricing). I will make the final decision based on all of your expert advice... Thanks in advance.

Question 1,
looking at that monstrous V8 M119 5.0L Engine, I can already imagine Naija mechanics telling me " Oga, na to convert am to 4 Cylinder toyota corolla engine grin" So the most important question is how much of a DIY car is it? Siena, your vast experience would be of immense help. is it a DIY car?. In the online fora i've looked at, it seems to be, but then we may not have access to specialized tools here in Nigeria etc..: I do have quite some tools sha... including compression tester, fuel pump pressure meter etc and also have access to some heavy automobile equipment like car lift, power jack etc when necessary. Also is there any info on reliability and any peculiar problems to look out for? Im looking at either the automatic or manual versions... I really don't care which though i guess the manual tranny would be a wiser choice.

Question 2,
Pricing. The price of a facelift e500 in Mainland Europe is like 12,000 Euros. I was wondering whether it would be cheaper in the UK (its only available as LHD and should probably be a bit cheaper in the UK since its an import and now quite aged... or so i think). Does anybody have an idea of the US price? I prefer the 4 door sedan, but wont mind the 2 door coupe or drop top (convertible) if available.
Thanks Guys for your contributions.

Please no comments on the following; Fuel economy (i know its thirsty), Safety (I do not intend to race on public congested roads... maybe I'd challenge Ikenna someday when he gets his 406 v6 and we'd try it out on the freeway from abuja to the east grin), Age (IMO, its an ageless classic),

Thanks Guys for your contributions...

rhymz: Guy call it what you like and act so unassuming and harmless, the fact still remains that your attempt is a subtle diss at the governments of those other two states, Enugu especially.

it is so glaring that underneath all that light gist about your journey and car, is the real motive of the thread: Akwa Ibom is working and the government of the other two states are not doing anything-not that I have a problem with your uncanny attempt, my grouse is the fact you had to do it in guise of talking about your car while you hit below the belt at these other states.

Even if it is generally agreed Abia state has the worst government in the east hence your subtle snide remarks about Abia state, thesame argument can't be surreptitously extended to Enugu, you over did it and made your bias and motive so obvious when you extended it to Enugu state.

Enugu State in my opinion is the finest eastern state with enviable infrastructures and social life comparable to may be Portharcourt. Akwa Ibom is ok too but has nothing on Enugu that's the ugly truth. So grotesquely highliting inter-state roads-whether express, state or federal roads in these two states in a list of suggestive pictures while hailing and showing off newly constructed ones in AK is disingenous and an inglorious attempt to hit below the belt.
Your picture story is vague and unbalanced and can easily be misinterpreted as evidenced from some of the posts here.
I just had to point it out cos I see where this is going, already some posters have started clumping the performing Enugu state goverment with Abia's, that is so not fair on Chime who as far as performance is concerned has been the most performing in the east giving the meagre allocation to Enugu and the level of what he has achieved in Enugu. Akwa Ibom seems like is working the most because like Rivers and Lagos, they have a chunky allocation to work with.
You seriously do not need to Abia or Enugu state to look mediocre to make AK look dashing and desirable, it already is.

As for whether you are showing off, of course you are, it is expected and understandable, infact, that is the reason for this section. I will do thesame if I had the time too. . .lol. . I aint hating or sth, just telling the obvious.

Oga I am not or was not (whichever) attempting to denigrate any Government with regards to the roads. There are a lot of reasons why roads go bad, with both the Govt, and the people being guilty at times. My remark about God's own State had nothing to do with the state of the Road because almost all the roads i traveled on (including the road on which i made that remark) are federal Roads.
FYI I grew up in Enugu from way back in the early eighties and lived/schooled/worked there up to December 2011, so if anybody should be conversant with the pace of development there, then I should be the one (except you also grew up there and are older than i am). I will not be dragged into who is performing better than who...thats not the point of this section. Sullivan has tried immensely in some aspects so has Orji in his own way, so have Okorocha and Akpabio in their own ways.
like I said countless times, my story was unplanned... im-promptu, It only occurred to me to start snapping pics after I had gotten petrol @ the Mega Station which as you know is outside Enugu town.
Maybe you could suggest what could be done better next time. Even if you don't have the time, some other jobless grin peeps like me who like to show off would be happy to take note of your corrections without any hard feelings and effect them.
Can we please end this here....
I apologize if some of my remarks on the pics seemed subtly insultive.

rhymz: I am not sure what this is about but it looks more like an EGO ride.
I have been to Akwa Ibom and Enugu, by far, Enugu is more cosmopolitan and have better inner access roads and structures than Akwa ibom.
It appears the intent of this thread besides the Ego ride is to praise AK by making Enugu especially look bad. I am not from either of the states but if I were to settle anywhere in the east, it will definitely be Enugu not AK. I was hoping to see some realy bad roads in the inner suburbs only for you to take pictures of federal roads and rural roads on the outskirts and compare them with inner town roads in AK.

It is all too familiar to not notice the bias. If your intent was to compare the level of developments in these states, then do it with objectivity and equality, don't compare apples with oranges.
Try again next time. AK is cool though.

Oga... if I was comparing Enugu State to Akwa ibom State, The title of my post would have been ROADS IN Enugu State and IN Akwa Ibom State (Notice i left out the words "Pug, Journey, Enugu, To, Uyo )and this would have been in the travel section not cartalk.
I am not comparing the states... merely snapped pics of my journey.
You have the right to wish to settle anywhere in Nigeria... thats entirely up to you.
Maybe I ought to lend you a leaf...
...Sometimes, I read posts/topics on Nairaland which in my opinion are pure bollocks... What i do is just to shake my head and move on without dropping nasty or sarcastic comments... You should do the same.
if you do want to criticize, then do so constructively and we'll all appreciate it, and then next time, it will be done better by me or others who would like to do journey pic stories as well.
And if you feel i am showing off... what if I am...?? Its my car, its my topic, its within the scope of the "car talk" section and to borrow from a certain dude... grin, its my "MBs"
...and Apples CAN be compared to Oranges... all depends on which properties you want to compare-they're both fruits.
