The essesnce of vaccination is not just to eradicate the pathogen, it's also prevents the pathogen from evolving into a more virulent strain in the future. It's the reason why people are encouraged to take it so we can stop the mutation once and for all if we acquire herd immunity. If you don't get hr vaccine, you are automatically a reservoir for the virus to mutate.

We have seen this several times in the history of man, the H1N1 pandemic that killed 70million people in 1918 didn't start with a new virus. It was a product of a constantly evolving influenza virus.

If we don't acquire herd immunity of covid19, there's a possibility that it will evolve into a very deadly strain in the nearest future. You may not understand what I am saying but with just little knowledge of biology, you will get how this works.
