The most frightening book they discovered was a booklet for boys, entitled Read, Understand and Apply, aimed at 11-year-olds and featuring a range of lessons for young men of the Caliphate.

On the cover stands a boy with a Kalashnikov nearly the size of himself slung over his shoulder, standing in what appears to be a pink-hued forest of books. The boy holds aloft a copy of Read, Understand and Apply, gazing up towards it, while celestial light pours down from above.

Just seven pages in, the book features images of the three most important lessons for any young boy growing up in the Caliphate to learn - praying at the right times, being good to his parents, and fighting jihad for the sake of Allah.

Accompanying photographs, all with the faces blurred out, show a young boy dressed in jihadi attire, poised on one knee with a Kalashnikov at the ready, receiving instruction from an elder, and with hands folded in pious prayer.

Page 16 features an apparently regular section of the Read, Understand and Apply series, entitled 'Heroes of the Caliphate'. The 'Hero' in this edition is an Iraqi called Abdullah Al-Ansari whose balaclava-clad image accompanying his story is not dissimilar to that of Jihadi John.
'When we saw Abdullah for the first time, coming from Mosul to Salahaddin to join his brothers and fight for the Caliphate, he did not look like us.

'His beard was short and he looked like a normal guy,' the text reads. 'He was not familiar with the sound of bullets or heavy weapons being fired, and he had never seen a RPG [rocket-propelled grenade] before.'

Describing him as an impatient young man when he joined ISIS, it was doubted that he had the dedication to persevere with the tough life of a jihadi, but Abdullah surprised everyone by responding well to ISIS teachings.

He was soon sent on a mission with two other Iraqis led by a foreign fighter wearing a suicide vest, to attack an army position manned by Shia Muslim soldiers. ISIS, which follows a strict interpretation of Sunni Islam, views Shia Muslims as one of its foremost enemies.

In dramatic and poetic language, the text describes the men's mission in heroic terms.

The jihadis crawled on their bellies towards the Iraqi Army position to avoid detection but, as they drew near, soldiers spotted them and opened fire, killing the foreign fighter. Abdullah tore the suicide vest off his dead comrade and, donning it himself, crawled towards a tank.

He detonated the vest under the tank, allegedly destroying it and taking out several soldiers in the resulting explosion which, the text says, blew his body into pieces.

Thanks to his suicide mission, the other two ISIS fighters were then able to flee and regale ISIS Emirs with Abdullah's story.

Reading the story, which ISIS students are instructed to memorise and recite, Iraqi soldier Ahmed, 26, burst out laughing.

'This is a ridiculous story because a car-bomb would struggle to destroy a tank, let alone one man wearing a suicide belt. This is just bull****,'he said. 'One suicide bomber would cause only light surface damage to a tank, if any. This Abdullah guy just blew himself up for nothing.'

Another page rejects conventional dental care and instructs the reader that the only tooth-care needed is a twig from the Arak tree, called a Miswak or Siwak.
A traditional method of teeth-cleaning across the Arab world, the Miswak is said to have been favoured by the Prophet Mohammed, according to the Hadith (Sayings of the Prophet).

With an illustration showing a child with long curly hair held back by an ISIS headband, a whole page is dedicated to how best to practise oral hygiene using a Miswak, reminding readers that cleanliness, especially of the mouth, is pleasing to Allah.

Most of the ISIS books soldiers found near Hawija feature few, if any, images, instead offering page after page of written teachings, doctrine and instruction in ISIS ideologies and beliefs.
But occasionally a topic was deemed so crucial that a picture was included to press home the point. In one book on everyday living according to Islamic teachings, the single photo in the whole book shows an overweight man lying prostrate beside a vast platter of food.

Accompanying text warns of the dangers of obesity, describing it as a disease brought on by laziness and poor eating habits. 'Another cause of this disease is gluttony and eating too much, especially sweets, rice, pasta and potatoes,' according to the text.

One Iraqi soldier noted the irony of this. At the end of the battle for Mosul, after a months-long siege had left civilians literally starving to death, he said suspected ISIS fighters could often be spotted by their healthy appearance and portly stomachs. They were the only ones who had regular access to food in the last months of the Mosul battle.

All the books, pamphlets and associated propaganda have been gathered by members of the Hashd al-Shaabi force - which has played a vital role in eradicating ISIS in Iraq - to avoid them falling into the wrong hands, and for further investigation.

Understanding the inner workings of ISIS, those behind it and how they brainwashed ISIS fighters, adherents and especially children, will be crucial to de-radicalising Iraqi youth both now and in the future, one member of the Hashd al-Shaabi told the Daily Mail.

Foreign Affairs / Re: See The ISIS Schoolbooks Used To Brainwash Children Into Becoming Jihadist by Techknowng(m): 7:14am On Oct 20, 2017
The accompanying text reads: 'My father loves me and I love him. I love my mother and my (male) siblings.'

The deliberate exclusion of the feminine from the word 'siblings' in Arabic is because ISIS devalues young women, an Arabic language specialist in Baghdad told the Daily Mail.

The pages' sinister images defy the brightly coloured covers, some of which show flower-filled gardens, town landscapes, or floating Arabic letters, all crowned with the black flag of ISIS.

Iraq's Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation) forces unearthed the sinister tomes in ISIS' last stronghold in Northern Iraq, when combing through the rubble of a school in a village on the outskirts of the town of Hawija, controlled by the terror group for more than three years.

Foreign Affairs / See The ISIS Schoolbooks Used To Brainwash Children Into Becoming Jihadist by Techknowng(m): 7:12am On Oct 20, 2017
ISIS militants are focused on brainwashing young boys to produce the next generation of gun-toting jihadis, according to textbooks found in the last town militants occupied in Northern Iraq.

Children's exercise books for practising handwriting and grammar depicted faceless family units, showing Dad as an AK-47-wielding jihadi and Mum wearing a veil.

Teaching children a warped version of what a normal family should look like as soon as they were starting to read and write, Dad was pictured as a stereotypical jihadi fighter, with a full beard, no moustache, and a scarf wound around his head, holding a Kalashnikov with magazine pouches strapped over his traditional robes.

Giving the images an even creepier feel, the faces of the ISIS family unit were left as empty blank spaces, because the terror group deems depictions of human or animal faces idolatrous.

Across Iraqi towns and villages under ISIS control, militants blacked out faces on shopfronts, advertisements and even cartoon characters painted on the the walls of schools

Computers / How To Get A Good Laptop This Black Friday - Techknowng.com by Techknowng(m): 6:41am On Oct 20, 2017
I think it's about time we start talking about Black Friday, for those that don't know what Black Friday means: Black Friday is a time of the year or let's say it marks the beginning of Christmas holiday season shopping, retailers gives a huge discount on products during the period of black Friday. Black Friday is celebrated every fourth Thursday of November, this year's Black Friday holiday is on November 24th (4th Thursday of November)

Things To Consider When Buying A Laptop This Black Friday

1. Budget
2. Platform
3. Size
4. Processing and speed
5. Storage and memory
6. Display

Online shopping mall gives unbelievable discounts on products especially mobile phones and laptops. Here is how to get a good laptop this Black Friday .

1. Budget: Give a range of money you will like to spend on a laptop on black friday, though prices become very low but you have to give a range of what you are willing to spend.

2. Platform: Apple ain't the only fruit there are Samsung laptops out there too, as well as Windows laptops, there are also MacBook and Chromebook which may well be heavily discounted come Black Friday.

3. Size: You need to consider the size of what you want to buy too, do you want it big, small or just a simple and flexible one.
Smaller notebooks can be generally portable light weighted and cheap in most cases.
If you want to carry it everywhere you go then you need a notebook that is light like 2kg or even 1.5kg.

4. Processing: In terms of processing the most important consideration should be that you’re getting a solid core component inside your laptop We’re talking about the processor, system memory, storage, and to a lesser extent – depending on whether you’re looking for a gaming machine – the graphics subsystem.

Starting with the processor, the majority of CPUs you’ll see will be made by Intel, and the Core i5 model is a decently beefy choice.
Core i7 models are the top-end, but most buyers won’t need that sort of power (unless you’re into serious gaming, video editing or other heavyweight tasks), the entry-level Core i3 is a fine choice for a budget machine that won’t be used for anything particularly heavy.

5. Display: Many laptops will offer a Full HD display these days, which is a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080.
However, towards the budget end of the market, you’ll still find plenty of machines with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, and that’s still fine, particularly with a smaller screen (like a 13-inch model).

6. Storage and Memory: This is another part where buyers end up with useless laptops, don't buy a laptop because it's cheap, check the storage capacity.

Moving on to system RAM, ideally you want 4GB, if not 8GB for future-proofing (and certainly that much for gaming).
Some cheaper budget laptops may still run with 2GB, but that really isn’t enough to get a decently responsive experience out of Windows 10 (even though it’s technically within the system requirements).

You may see the speed of the RAM quoted in MHz, but don’t worry too much about that; it’s the quantity which is the real defining factor in terms of performance.

With these points I can guarantee that you will get a very useful laptop at a cheap price, meanwhile you can follow us on twitter @techknownaija and like our page on facebook @techknownaija, you can subscribe to our mail below to get exclusive black Friday deals of online shopping malls.

Sharing is caring why don't you share this to family and friends

The Islamic State of Iran and Syria, ISIS, has released a fresh threat on its plan to disrupt the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The dreaded terrorist organization published an image of a rifle-carrying ISIS fighter and a bomb bearing the regime’s infamous black flag in front of a football stadium.

The official symbol of the 2018 World Cup finals is also included in the alarming threat to bring mayhem to the tournament.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be played across 11 cities in Russia from 14 June to 15 July, when the final will be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

St Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city was the scene of a horrific ISIS attack when a briefcase bomb detonated on the underground in April, killing 14 people.

The blast was in retaliation to Russia’s airstrikes in Syria that have helped bring the regime to its knees.

Romance / Things Couples Should Be Doing During Courtship Before Marriage (must Read) by Techknowng(m): 9:45am On Oct 17, 2017
There are many out there who may have rushed into things a little too quickly because they didn't take time to know their partners. This article will explain better.

File photo

Getting married is one of the biggest decisions that you will ever make. You are entrusting the rest of your life into the care of another human being and sharing everything forever is a big commitment to make.

But there are many out there who may have rushed into things a little too quickly because they didn’t take time to know their partners. That is why courtship is an important stage in a couple’s relationship.

It is a time for couples to get to know each other well. It’s a time to know the likes and dislikes of your would be husband or wife. It is also time to know their values, beliefs and stand on some important issues such as finance, parenting, marriage and settling disputes.

Unfortunately, many young men and women don’t use their courtship period well. They only spend time kissing, having sex and visiting different places. They don’t pay attention to important details about their partners that can cause problems in their marriages later. They don’t know how their partners react under stress or their stand on domestic violence, cheating and divorce.

Courtship is not the time to put up with negative behaviours because you don’t want another woman or man to snatch your partner. It is not the time for ladies to prove the quality of their wife material by slaving away in their partner’s kitchens and on their beds. It is not the time for men to impress their partners with their fat bank accounts and build castles in the air.

So here are the things you must do with your potential spouse before you walk up that aisle.

Understand your partner’s life goals

If you don’t know your partner’s life goals, then ask. You have to go into marriage knowing what you both want out of life – both individually and as a couple. And remember that while marriages always involve some form of sacrifices on both sides, no one should give up their dreams for the other person.

Have arguments

You need to know that you can handle the inevitable rows and be able to move on from them. Arguments are never pleasant but are often necessary to air things and can actually make a relationship stronger. But if you are with someone who handles them in the worst possible way, marriage could be tricky.

Meet both parents

Two people planning to get married should meet each other’s families. It’s always best to iron out any differences or awkwardness that comes with meeting parents and family members of your fiancé. These people will become a huge part of your life when you eventually get married.

Get to know each other’s friends

Meet your partner’s friends and find out the kind of crowd he or she moves with. You shouldn’t leave such an important aspect of your partner’s to chance. Get to know his or her friends and build relationships with them too. It will help you both in the long run.

Explore each other’s s*xuality

S*x isn’t the beginning and end of a relationship but it’s very important. Even if you don’t want to have s*x before marriage, you should at least discuss it. If you are not s*xually compatible, you could be signing up for a pretty tense and satisfactory marriage.

Experience financial stress as a team

Money worries are the top reason for marriage breakdowns so you need to practise how you will overcome these things as a team first. Know what your partner earns or makes from their business and plan your financial future carefully and together before you walk down the aisle.

Show your bad habits

There’s no point in pretending to be someone you are not because you want to get married. Ensure your partner loves you for who you are. If they can’t cope with your snoring, belching or nail chewing, then it’s best that you find out now and decide what you want to do.

Apologise and mean it

You have to know how to say sorry. Make sure you caprove to your partner that you are man or woman enough to hold your hands up when you are wrong. The respect you will win will be massive.

Disagree but stick to your guns

You also have to show your partner that you will stand by your views too. Of course you should compromise, but no one wants to be with someone who always backs down. It’s all about respect again. Your partner should know the deal breakers in your relationship.

Celebrities / I Can't Marry A Poor Man, I Told My P.A Not To Marry A Poor Man -iyabo Ojo by Techknowng(m): 12:44pm On Oct 16, 2017
While speaking in an exclusive interview with PUNCH's Sunday Scoop, popular Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, stated that she does not fancy a poor man.

Few weeks after opening her amala restaurant and lounge in Lekki, the actress who is yet to remarry since her marriage failed, admitted that she is now ready to give matrimony another shot, and stressed that she is not in hurry to marry just any man.

She said, “If marriage comes along, yes I will consider it. Then, I used to say that I didn’t want to get married again because of the stress involved. Now, I have had a rethink. But I can’t marry a poor man.
"Some people will say I shouldn’t say that, but I am a blunt person. For someone like me, there is no love without money. I am a celebrity and I am expected to maintain a certain lifestyle, which is expensive.”

Apart from being a celebrity, she insisted that she was also a breadwinner, caring for seven people.

“I have a lot of responsibilities. As a breadwinner and celebrity, how do you expect me to marry a poor man? Where do you expect us to start from? I am not ready to add any man’s problems to mine. I don’t need the man to be very rich, but he must be able to feed himself and me. You don’t even have to cater for my other responsibilities.”

She said that there is nothing like an ideal man in her world, as she believes no one is perfect.
“We all have our defects. When you keep looking for an ideal man, a good one will pass you by. I just need a man who is responsible for himself first before me. Once he is hungry for success, every other thing will follow.”

But, she quickly admitted that nothing could make her settle for a man who would be scared of her success.

“The kind of man I want in my life has to be more successful than me. When I bought my personal assistant a car, people said I didn’t want her to marry. I told them that I don’t expect her to marry someone who does not have a car as well.
"You say what you want out of life; we shouldn’t deceive ourselves. It is a choice to die in poverty and I have chosen not to die in poverty. I cannot flow with someone who wants to die in poverty,” she said.

Investment / See Shocking Amount World Bank Has Invested In Nigeria by Techknowng(m): 11:39am On Oct 16, 2017
The World Bank Group has said it has an investment portfolio of about $8.5billion scattered across states in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Olufunke Olufon, a Senior Communications Officer at World Bank Nigeria.

Olufon stated that the investments were to assist the 36 states of the federation and the federal capital territory (FCT), to reduce poverty and foster prosperity.

According to her, the clarification was important, because of concerns raised by Nigerians over the comment by World Bank president, Jim Yong Kim that President Muhammadu Buhari told them to concentrate on the Northern part of the country.

“In 2015, the government of Nigeria requested World Bank support to respond to the humanitarian and development crisis in the north-east of Nigeria,” the statement read.

“To assess the needs of the nearly 15 million people in the region impacted by the crisis, the World Bank Group, the UN and the European Union carried out a Recovery and Peace Building Assessment (RPBA).

“And based on the findings of the assessment, World Bank’s 775 million dollars support to the north-east focuses on restoring basic education, health services, agricultural production, and livelihood improvement opportunities.”

Politics / EFCC Accuses Governor Fayose Of Diverting N680m State Fund by Techknowng(m): 6:18pm On Oct 14, 2017
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of diverting Ekiti state funds.

The anti-graft agency alleged that the Governor put N680m in a fixed deposit account, adding that the money yields N6m interests monthly.

According to Punch, the EFCC said this in a report, as a result of its investigations into how Ekiti state spent the bailout funds given to it by the Federal Government.

The anti-graft agency also revealed that its officers are working hard to uncover those who took part in the deal.

According to the EFCC report, “A total of N680m was diverted on January 25, 2016. The funds, comprising N200m from the Ekiti State Local Government salary account, N300m from the Ekiti State Pension Account and N180m from the Ekiti State FAAC Account, were first credited into the Consolidated Revenue Account in Zenith Bank on January 25, 2016, and later transferred on the same day into an account called – 2015 MDG-CGS state project – domiciled in Zenith Bank.

“Analysis of the bank statement revealed that the money was later placed in a fixed deposit, where it was yielding a monthly interest of about N6m at a time pensioners and workers in Ekiti State were owed months of unpaid entitlements.”

“The detained Ekiti State Commissioner for Finance and its Accountant-General committed to assisting the commission with relevant documents before they were granted administrative bail and ordered to report back in two weeks,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti state Commissioner for Finance, Toyin Ojo, and the Accountant-General, Yemisi Owolabi were released by the EFCC after spending 12 days in detention

According to a new report, mobile broadband penetration in OECD countries has reached 99.3 percent, meaning there is nearly one high-speed mobile broadband subscription for every inhabitant. As the smartphone became mainstream and mobile internet started to become more common, pricing in mobile markets shifted from telephony to data usage. That trend is particularly evident when it comes to 4G services that are designed for IP-based traffic, rather than being optimized for voice.
The rapid expansion of 4G, coupled with providers in many countries introducing unlimited data packages, has seen levels of data usage rise considerably in recent years. The following infographic shows mobile data usage per mobile broadband subscription in selected OECD countries last year, with Finland first by a wide margin.

In 2016, Finnish smartphone users consumed an average of 10.95GB of mobile data per month, considerably more than Austria's 6.28GB. In Finland, users can select the speed for all services without having their usage capped. For example Elisa offers tiered speeds for 4G at 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 300Mbps including unlimited data usage. Sweden and South Korea recorded mobile data usage of 4.38 and 3.83GB per month respectively while U.S. smartphone owners used 2.67GB. While some U.S. operators like Sprint and T-Mobile do offer unlimited usage plans and charge by speed, others are still rooted back in the 3G-era.

The United Arab Emirates on Thursday announced it had stopped issuing visas to North Korean nationals and downgraded diplomatic relations with Pyongyang, following similar moves by Kuwait and Qatar.

The UAE government ended the mission of its non-resident ambassador to North Korea as well as that of Pyongyang’s non-resident ambassador to the UAE, the government-run WAM news agency said.
Abu Dhabi will also no longer grant North Korean companies authorisation to work in any of the seven emirates, WAM said.
Tensions over North Korea’s weapons programme have soared in recent months, with Pyongyang launching a flurry of missiles and conducting its sixth and most powerful nuclear test last month.
UN sanctions against North Korea were last month expanded to include North Korean guest workers, along with textiles and a cap on oil exports.

South Korea and Japan have pressured Gulf states to stop employing North Korean workers, whose income goes towards remittances that benefit the regime in Pyongyang, according to Asian diplomatic sources.
In September, Kuwait gave the North Korean ambassador one month to leave the country and stopped issuing visas to all North Koreans.
Qatar has also said it would not renew visas for North Korean labourers, with the last work permits set to expire at the end of 2018.
Between 2,000 and 2,500 North Koreans currently work in Kuwait, and another estimated 1,000 in Qatar.
The UAE is home to some 1,300 North Korean workers, according to a South Korean diplomat.

"Mi Gente," which Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin created from the African dance rhythms of French DJ Willy William, had lingered for 11 weeks at number two on the Billboard Latin song chart underneath the colossus of "Despacito." "Mi Gente" finally reached the top spot for the week through October 5 in the track's new version starring Beyonce, who sings partially in Spanish in her first music since giving birth to twins in June.

Beyonce said that all proceeds of the remix of "Mi Gente," which means "My People," would support victims of the trio of powerful hurricanes that have ravaged the Caribbean and southern United States.
"Despacito" -- led by Puerto Rican star Luis Fonsi with rapper Daddy Yankee, and later with a contribution by Justin Bieber -- spent 35 weeks on top of the chart. It was the second longest reign ever, trailing Enrique Iglesias' "Bailando" which topped the chart for 41 weeks.

"Despacito" earlier also made history by tying the record for most weeks at number one of the mainstream Hot 100 chart of all songs in the United States, ruling for 16 weeks.

"Mi Gente" jumped to number three on the Hot 100 with Beyonce, but breakout rap star Cardi B held firm at number one with "Bodak Yellow."
