Following a rather damaging riot at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado -Ekiti, the management has imposed a reparation fee of N20,000 on students.



The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado -Ekiti has imposed a reparation fee of N20, 000 on each student for the violence on the property destroyed, looted and stolen during the October 7 riot that rocked the institution, Punch Metro reports.

Besides paying the reparation fee, the returning students are also to swear to an affidavit to be of good behavior throughout their period of studentship and a letter of indemnity from parents and sponsors.

These are part of the decisions reached at the emergency meeting of the Academic Board held on Tuesday which also ordered that all students should resume on Monday, 20th November.

In a statement signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Sade Adediran, authorities stressed that payment of school fees and the N20, 000 reparation fee are conditions for resumption. Students are expected to commence their on 27th November except for those on SIWES.

It will be recalled that students of the polytechnic went on rampage on October 7 in protest against the death of a Vincent Taiwo Oluwafemi, an HND 2 student of Estate Management which whom they had discharged from Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti,
against medical advice.

They brought Oluwafemi to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)-accredited Polytechnic Health Centre which they alleged was ill-equipped to save the life of their colleague, an allegation debunked by the authorities.

The students set the Health Centre ablaze, destroyed some vehicles, the security post, Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICT) where they stole over 40 laptops, bakery and fishery were also looted.

They looted the school poultry where they stole chickens and eggs, hundreds of tubers of yams were also stolen from the demonstration farm while the Entrepreneurship Centre and departmental buildings were also vandalized.

The magnitude of the violence prompted the management to close down the polytechnic indefinitely and students ordered to vacate the campus.

Mrs. Adediran added: “Resumption of all Students has been slated for Monday, 20th November, 2017, and that all Students including those with outstanding Carry-over Courses are to immediately pay a reparation fee of N20,000 only.

“In this respect, a payment platform has been created and Students are therefore advised to observe the following procedures: Visit the Polytechnic Website (www.fedpolyado.edu.ng)Click on the Student portal.

“All Students are to also proceed to the Bursary after payment of reparation fee for authentication while Examination for all Students (except SIWES) commences on Monday, 27th November, 2017

“Full Examination Time-Tables are already on display in the respective Schools and Departments) while Resumption cum commencement of Lectures for SIWES Students has been fixed for Monday, 11th December, 2017.”

The tension between the United States and North Korea is getting more intense as three US military aircraft carriers are heading to the disputed Korea Peninsula for the first time in a decade.



Three U.S. military aircraft carriers are heading to the same part of the world at the same time, to take part in a rare military exercise not seen in a decade.

The USS Ronald Reagan, based in Japan; the USS Theodore Roosevelt, based in San Diego; and the USS Nimitz, based at Naval Base Kitsap at Bremerton, Washington, will commence the strike force exercise in the Western Pacific Saturday through next Tuesday.

Units assigned to the strike force will conduct coordinated operations in international waters to demonstrate the U.S. Navy’s unique capability to operate multiple carrier strike groups as a coordinated strike force effort.

The three aircraft carriers are expected to link up in the Sea of Japan later this week off the Korean Peninsula, a U.S. defense official tells Fox News.

“It is a rare opportunity to train with two aircraft carriers together, and even rarer to be able to train with three,” said U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander, Adm. Scott Swift.

“Multiple carrier strike force operations are very complex, and this exercise in the Western Pacific is a strong testament to the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s unique ability and ironclad commitment to the continued security and stability of the region.”

While at sea, the strike force plans to conduct air defense drills, sea surveillance, replenishments at sea, defensive air combat training, close-in coordinated manoeuvres, and other training.

This is the first time that three carrier strike groups have operated together in the Western Pacific since exercises Valiant Shield 2006 and 2007 off the coast of Guam.

A woman who accessed her husband's phone using his fingerprint and found out he was cheating has caused a mid-flight emergency.







The Qatar Airways flight they were travelling on was forced to make an emergency landing in India after she started to repeatedly hit her husband following the discovery.
According to the Hindustan Times, the Iranian woman had managed to unlock her partner's smartphone by pressing it against his hand while he slept.
Flight attendants tried to intervene but were unable to calm her down, leaving the pilots with no option but to make an unscheduled stop in the southern Indian city of Chennai on Sunday.
The couple - along with their child - were removed from the plane, which then completed its journey from Doha to Bali.
"The family spent the day at Chennai airport. No police action was taken," a source told the newspaper.
Chennai's New Indian Express reported that the airport's director, G Chandramouli, said the woman was drunk and was held at the airport until she sobered up before the family were allowed back on a plane.

West Ham have appointed former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes as their new manager, the struggling Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

The Hammers sacked manager Slaven Bilic on Monday after a poor run of results that have left the east London side languishing in the relegation zone.



Sullivan believes Moyes, 54, is the perfect choice to steer the club to safety.

“We need somebody with experience, knowledge of the Premier League and the players in it, and we believe David is the right man to turn things around and get the best out of the players at the club.

Bilic was let go following a chastening 4-1 loss to Liverpool at the London Stadium on Saturday that leaves them 18th in the table and facing a fight for Premier League survival.

Bilic, who also played for West Ham, is the fourth Premier League managerial casualty of the season following the departures of Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer, Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare and Everton’s Ronald Koeman.

Four suicide bombers killed, six farmers injured in Maiduguri

The Police in Borno on Tuesday said four female suicide bombers were killed while trying to sneak into Maiduguri metropolis.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state,Victor Isuku, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in a telephone interview.



Isuku said that the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. in Tomsu Ngamdu community on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

He said that one of the suicide bombers detonated her explosive near a military check point, while the other one detonated hers at a Civilian Joint Task Force checkpoint, all killing themselves and injuring six farmers nearby.

He said that the two other bombers were shot dead by security operatives before they detonated the bomb concealed in their body.

“Police EOD teams have been deployed to the scene to sanitise the area,” the PPRO said.

Some hundreds of people have been said to have fed their communities in Borno State after the deadly Boko Haram sect invaded the area.

According to a Daily Trust report, hundreds of civilians have fled Gulak town, the headquarters of Madagali Local Area as Boko Haram made bold attempt to take over the town.

It was learnt that a large number of armed militants attacked the town around 6:30 pm and engaged the military in battle.

A fleeing resident who spoke to our correspondent on phone said he believed the insurgents had displaced the military and police from the town.

"Boko Haram have taken over the town and thousands of us are here in the bush, We don't know what will happen to us. Can't you hear gun shots?".

Major Badare Akintoye, the spokes person of the 28 Task Force Brihade in Mubi did not answer calls from our reporter.

However, a military source who did not want his name published confirmed the attack, saying a reinforcement was sent to the town.

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on Tuesday received Nwankwo Kanu and El-Hadji Diouf, two African legends, the Chief Coordinator of the Match-4-IDPs, Adi Goodman and the Coordinator of the African legends, Mo Mohammed Mustapha in his palace.

The emir promised to lead thousands of fans to watch the match between Kano Pillars football club and the African legends billed for the Sani Abacha stadium in the ancient city of Kano on December 14.

The cause of the death of Tinubu's first son has been linked to a heart attack which suddenly hit the young man and took his life.

The manner in which Jide Tinubu, first son of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu, died has been revealed.

According to a member of the Tinubu family, who asked not to be named because of the sensitive nature of the matter, Jide suddenly collapsed and died from what was suspected to be a heart attack around 9 pm on Tuesday.

“However, after the incidence, close family members rushed him down to hospital on Lagos Island where he was confirmed dead on arrival,” the source told journalists in Lagos

He added that the tragic news was kept secret because the father, Bola Tinubu, was in Abuja for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of his party, the APC.

Chairman of APC in Lagos, Otunba Henry Ajomale confirmed Jide’s death in a short statement he (Ajomale) issued on Wednesday.

“It’s with regrets that I inform you of the demise of Mr. Jide Tinubu, the Son of Our dear and esteemed Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement said.

The 76th National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved fees for the purchase of nomination forms for all positions to be contested in the December 9 convention.

In a communiqué signed and made available to newsmen by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, he said nomination form for office of the National Chairman goes for N3 million, while that of the Deputy National Chairman is N2million.

He said, “Cost of nomination form for the office of the National Secretary is N2 million. All other national officers including the National Publicity Secretary, National Treasurer amongst others will pay the sum of N1.5 million each, while ex-officio members will pay N500, 000.”

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, escaped death by a whisker on Tuesday after fire consumed his Mercedes-Benz G-Class on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos State.
The PUNCH learnt that the vehicle had just had a lone accident when the governor fled it and escaped into another car which was in his convoy.
It was gathered that traffic officials with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency later responded to the incident.
A traffic official and witness said the driver of the G-Class, who waited behind until the fire was put off, later went in to pack some burnt N500 notes and other items in the car.
He said, “The accident happened around 1.30pm on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway inward Airport Road. It happened on the Oshodi bridge, not too far from the LASTMA’s headquarters.
“We cannot tell the exact cause of the fire. We gathered from those at the scene that the governor was in the G-Class when the accident happened and he quickly escaped into another car in his convoy.
“On getting to the scene, we saw the driver who tried to cover his face with a Fez cap. He watched helplessly as the fire raged on. We alerted the state fire service and LASEMA. The LASEMA response unit had to take one way to access the accident scene because the road was blocked because of the inferno.
“On arrival, they were able to douse the fire. The vehicle was seriously burnt. The driver did not talk to anybody. We saw as he started packing some of the burnt cash in the car. They were N500 notes. He packed the money with some other items into a polythene bag. This was in the presence of traffic officials and the police. We later cleared the traffic as the wreckage of the car was towed away by LASEMA.”
However, the Special Assistant to Fayose on New Media and Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, said the governor was not in the car.
In a statement he issued on the incident on Wednesday, Olayinka explained that Fayose was heading for the Lagos airport when the car got burnt.
He said the cause of the accident remained a mystery.

For Dhal, the situation was exacerbated when, she said, the plane's fire extinguishers didn't work. "It was a mid-air panic," she told the Times. Indeed, her husband said that the crew was forced to put the phone into a tray of water in order to get the fire under control.

Neither Samsung nor Jet Airways immediately responded to a request for comment.
The airline did tell the Times: "Jet Airways crew immediately took charge of the situation, as also all necessary steps as precautionary measure, and as per the prescribed guidelines.
" This isn't the first time that a J7 explosion has been reported. This doesn't mean, however, that the phone has the sort of problem experienced by the Galaxy Note 7, which was
