Preach on dude. There need to be a change in the mindset of Nigerians if we really want to move forward. University education is not the only way to succeed or to be productive. The worse part is that Nigeria university education system isn't very efficient. There is one advantage though, lots of graduates can speak big english, and they have good grammar construction, unfortunately, that is the only good in them. #NoBeef

Programming5 Web Best Practices by techthought(op): 11:42am On Apr 23, 2016
So I just did post to help businesses chose a web design coy. Now this post is help web designers (professionals and upcoming) understand best web design practices.

1. Think About Conversion
Every aspect of a site’s design plays a role in driving customers to their destination and converting them.
Images – The images should be interesting, unique, and high quality
Color – Is the color scheme attractive and eye-catching?
Text – This includes the use for messaging as well as the descriptions, instructions, and labels
Navigation – How smoothly can people navigate through your website?

2. Don't be afraid of white space:
Another important property of a great website design is the effective use of white space. To non-designers, white space seems like the areas of the site where design has not been applied. For an expert web designer, however, each part of the space that they use around the images, written content, call-to-action buttons, and every other element of the site is deliberately designed. Prominent designer, Ellen Lupton, puts it best by saying: “Design is as much an act of spacing as an act of marking.”

3. Typography, typography, typography
Typography is not just about font selection, but also about the size and color you use for the message as well as the weight of the letters, the spacing around those letters and words, and so much more. Above all, it is about text content that is easy and enjoyable to read.

4. Add less, not more
One of my favorite design-related quotes comes from Antoine de Saint-Exupery:“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. When designing websites, there is always the temptation to add “more stuff”. Clients request additional features to be added, they want more buttons squeezed into the navigation, or they make some other request to pile more into their new website. Adding elements or content that is necessary for success is fine, but anyone who has even had these conversations can attest to the fact that everything being added is certainly not necessary. Too often, these additions add clutter to a design instead of clarity. Therefore, instead of contemplating what else you can add to your site, look at what you already have and determine what can be removed.

5. Have Fun…but Don’t Go Overboard
One of the goals you most likely have for your site and for your online presence is that you want to make an impression on your visitors. You want them to remember your business. One of the best ways to achieve this is by adding some “fun” to the experience After all, a fun experience is one that people enjoy – and if people have an enjoyable experience, that is also often a memorable experience. Now, your initial reaction may be that you cannot have a “fun” website, but let’s define what we mean by “fun” here. Fun doesn’t mean silly. A website can be both fun and professional at the same time by also adding a layer of delight to the experience. It means taking what is mundane and replace it with something memorable!

BusinessTop Five Web Design Agencies In Nigeria (from The Eyes Of An Expert) by techthought(op): 11:26am On Apr 23, 2016
So I am writing this list for the love of my dear country and tech. Another motivation I got is from Nairaland's topic about digital agencies, StevenJojo did a good job, that information she provided have helped a lot of businesses.

A lot small businesses are coming up but they don't enough support from the government. Business owners are smart enough to that the trend is changing, everything is going online these days. It is no news that businesses in developed countries like the US, China, even here in Africa, South Africa have a large online presense, but things are quite slow in Nigeria's online for some reasons. The truth is, these reasons are too numerous to write about so I will be talking one major reason. Businesses in Nigeria are finding it hard to chose the right company to design, develop and deploy their web application/website. Most "agencies" are there just want your money, and or they do is provide services that are way lower than expectations (like hastily customizing a wordpress template without decent creatives, which ultimately result in bad user experience). To solve this, at least to some extent, I have compiled a list of web design agencies that you can trust.

NB: List is my opinion from experience, recommendation and research and it is no particular order.

Arttitude360: I will be starting this list with arttitude360. Their core strength is mobile application. They also conduct training for those interested in learning the profession. They have been in the industry for quiet a while and they have truly mastered their craft. http://www.arttitude360.com

Anakle: yes, they made it to this list too, rightfully so. Anakle is one company I admire, apart from their passion for what they do, they are also very skillful. I don't need to write much about them because I believe you know them already. You just try their service, it speaks for itself. http://www.anakle.com

Shixel studios: formally in Ikoyi but now in the heart of Lekki Phase 1. They keep on surprising folks in the industry with every new project they take. They are serious-minded and passionate about what they do. In their own words "We're a lot of things, to a lot of businesses. Not just design, but the whole process." http://www.shixels.com

Eko Pixel: these guys are relatively new in the scene, but they are worthy of note, as they have come up with something that is going to take them very far. Team of very young Nigerians, I mean very young programmers, UX designers, Graphic designers, came together and said "let us start an agency that will help SMEs". These guys are mostly concern in giving businesses a good look through efficient and appealing web designs. http://www.ekopixel.co

Paramount Web: The list isn't complete with mentioning paramountweb. After spending over 2 decades in Canada, Mr. Shola came back to Nigeria with a dream of developing website, and marketing businesses digitally. As an SEO expert, who have gathered experience while working for top firms in Canada, he handpicked a team of dedicated staff that understands what web design, development and deployment means. Members of his team are not just in Lagos, some are from India, Canada and the United States. http://www.paramountweb.com

Jobs/VacanciesLearn Bigdata And Get Out Of Joblessness by techthought(op): 5:18pm On Mar 29, 2016
Seen a lot complain here on nairaland, about how jobless lots of folks are. My advice is learn compute programming, digital marketing or graphics design, and your jobless day will soon be over. Below is an interesting article I copied from the internet, it is incomplete though. I didn't put everything here 'cause it is long.

Already, "big data" has become one of those buzzphrases you say with an apologetic smirk. It sounds like marketecture, broad enough to apply to almost anything.

So let's clear up what big data is and isn't. Perhaps you've heard the canonical "three V's" definition: data high in volume, velocity, and variability. In other words, big data comes in multiterabyte quantities, accrues or changes fast, often resists normalized structure -- and tends to demand technologies beyond the tried-and-true RDBMS or data warehouse.

[ InfoWorld's Andrew Lampitt looks beyond the hype and examines big data at work in his blog Think Big Data. | Confused about Hadoop? Our Hadoop Deep Dive puts the technology in perspective. | Download InfoWorld's Big Data Analytics Deep Dive for a comprehensive, practical overview. ]

That cluster of new technologies around big data -- including Hadoop, a wild array of new NoSQL databases, massively parallel processing (MPP) analytic databases, and more -- together represent the biggest leap forward in data management and analytics since the 1980s. That's really what big data is about. And these emerging technologies are already delivering business value: in deep insights about customer behavior, in faster app dev cycles, in the ability to use commodity hardware, and in reduced software licensing costs, because almost all these new technologies are open source.

Assuming your data volumes are exploding as fast as everyone else's, you're part of the big data trend whether you like it or not. So why not employ the tools purpose-built for the big data era? It's a better strategy than blindly buying more Oracle licenses or building another gold-plated data warehouse. Where you start, though, depends on the problems you want to solve.

Problem No. 1: I don't want to pay Oracle more money
This is not a big data problem per se, but software surrounding the big data trend may help solve it.

Many companies simply use Oracle (or DB2 or SQL Server) as their default data store for almost everything. After all, the RDBMS is probably the most successful technology in the history of software, and if you want a battle-tested, unassailable RDBMS with all the bells and whistles, you choose Oracle (or other ironclad commercially licensed software) and pay a lot for it. That's where data goes, period.

But now the RDBMS has all sorts of viable competition. As it turns out, there are many, many instances where database needs do not include relational capability, two-phase commits, complex transactions, and so on. In such cases, NoSQL solutions -- most of which are open source -- may perform and scale better at vastly reduced cost and with much lower maintenance overhead. For an overview of NoSQL database types, see "Which freaking database should I use?" by InfoWorld's Andrew Oliver.

Now, nobody would power down their Oracle servers and port all their existing customer and product data to, say, MongoDB. For one thing, the security isn't there yet -- and by their nature NoSQL databases tend to compromise ACID compliance. Also, when complex transactions are involved, even NoSQL vendors will tell you that an RDBMS remains your best solution. Finally, if you just want to save money, you're not going to waste a fortune rearchitecting an Oracle database and its applications for NoSQL (an open source alternative like PostgreSQL might be a better choice).

But for new projects, especially those involving Web applications that demand instant scalability -- or analytics systems intended to crunch gobs of semistructured data -- exciting alternatives beckon. Not only are they mostly open source, they run on low-cost server hardware.

Being out of job for a longer time is very frustrating. You have been working and later lose ur job due to ur company passing tru hard times. You have spent almost ur savings to ensure taking care of urself n family, ofcos Kids and paying ur bills don't know whether u r working or not.Worse still, many of ur friends will start deserting u.They can hardly visit u or call u on phone. If u call them, most times they won't pick ur calls or return ur calls even if they saw tens missed calls from you for fear that u want to beg them for something.Going out to hang out, they won't call u to join them because they now see u as a parasite.U r on ur own. Some may claim to ask u to send ur cv without even for once forwarding it to anywhere on ur behalf..Family memebers won't be happy with u as if u don't know wat u r doing.Infact, the experience is very severe with many negative effects and can never wish anybody to undergo such. For those that have passed tru this terrible experience or passing tru it,how do u cope.Share ur experience and advice.
I have never had that experience but I had similar. I once lost a job, though I am not married, and I don't have kids. What I did, was never stayed at home for a day. I was out there till I got a job. Now I don't work for anyone anymore. I do my own business. There a lot of businesses you could do. Real estate for example. You could get buyers for sellers in real estate industry, car dealers, etc. There are things you could do with your time, just look around you.
