If the coach decides he wants a different profile at left-back, fair enough. Coaches have their preferences. But let's not rewrite history and pretend Balde isn't an elite player. He's proven his quality time and time again. The injuries are frustrating, but that's very different from saying he's not good enough.

Balde was compared to Mendes the same way Rashford was compared to Mbappe. Mendes is defensively very sound and he contributes goals and assist for club and country at the highest level possible. Balde can't even see shirt as second choice LB behind a defensive liability in Alex Grimaldo at national level. For club he's now behind a 19 year old midfielder Espart.
