The energy giant has reportedly stopped selling gasoline at its more than 400 service stations across the country British oil company Shell has closed all of its petrol stations in Russia, business daily RBC reported this week, citing the company’s press service. Shell had earlier sold its Russian retail and lubricants business. The press service told the outlet that the sales of fuel at the service stations have been completely suspended, while shops and cafes there continued to work. Last week, the energy company said it has agreed to sell its 411 petrol stations in Russia to the country’s second largest oil producer, Lukoil. It noted that more than 350 people employed by Shell Neft will transfer to the new owner The agreement with Lukoil followed Shell’s announcement in early March of its intention to withdraw from all Russian hydrocarbons in a phased manner. Shell said that would stop all spot purchases of Russian crude oil and exit all joint ventures. Source: Rt news

Exports to Lithuania were stopped due to the nation’s "inability" to pay Russia has stopped supplying power to Lithuania, the country’s electricity transmission system operator Litgrid announced on Sunday. Inter RAO, which was the only importer of electricity from Russia to Lithuania, confirmed the suspension of deliveries. Earlier this month, Inter RAO’s Nordic branch also stopped supplying electricity to Finland. Lithuania’s Energy Ministry initially announced that it would stop buying Russian electricity on Friday. “According to the decision of the electricity exchange operator Nord Pool, trading in electricity generated in Russia, which was carried out by Inter RAO (through its subsidiary Inter RAO Lietuva), is terminated” starting from May 22, the ministry said in a statement. Following the shutdown of Russian supplies, Lithuania plans to meet electricity needs through local power plants and imports from other European countries, in particular Sweden, Poland and Latvia, Litgrid CEO Rokas Masiulis said on Friday. According to the company, Russian imports accounted for 16% of Lithuania’s electricity consumption. Inter RAO confirmed the suspension of trading on Friday, according to TASS. “Inter RAO has received notices from [exchange operator] Nord Pool about the suspension of trading by subsidiaries due to the risk of being unable to pay for Russian electricity,” the company told the agency. Last month, Lithuania became the first EU state to scrap Russian gas imports, and it also refused to buy the country’s oil. Rt news

Russian military victories in parts of eastern Ukraine are "very temporary" and any territory they have claimed will eventually be returned to Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said. The Ukrainian leader told local TV that his country would see more bloody fighting, but stressed that only diplomacy could end the war. of course we sabi say na diplomacy go settle this war laslas, you don already admit but your disciples here on nairaland won’t like this news at all, dem still get hope say you go destroy Russia in their dreams. The national military now consists of 700,000 people, the president claims The size of the Ukrainian military is now almost six times larger than it was at the beginning of the conflict between Kiev and Moscow, President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed. “We needed an army of more than 250,000 or 260,000, but there were only around 120,000” battle-ready troops in Ukraine before the start of the Russian military operation in late February, Zelensky told Ukraine 24 outlet on Friday. The president noted that he’d given an order in early 2022 to boost the number of soldiers by another 100,000 “no matter if we had the money or not.” But he acknowledged that even those numbers weren’t enough to stop the Russian military. “Today it’s 700,000. Now you see the results of the work of 700,000 who are fighting,” he added. Zelensky ordered a general mobilization after the start of the conflict, saying that all men aged between 18 and 60 should stay in the country and fight. Earlier this week, a law was submitted to the Ukrainian parliament calling for those males who still managed to flee and failed to return to the country within 30 days to be deprived of their citizenship.

The last members of Ukraine’s neo-Nazi Azov unit have surrendered in Mariupol The entire territory of the Azovstal factory complex in Mariupol has been liberated, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Friday. More than 2,400 people surrounded inside for almost a month, including Ukrainian servicemen and members of the neo-Nazi Azov unit, have laid down their arms and surrendered. “The last group of 531 militants surrendered today,” the Russian military spokesman, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, said in a statement. He added that a total of “2,439 Azov Nazis” and Ukrainian servicemen had laid down their arms since May 16, and that the entire Azovstal complex is now under control of Russian armed forces. Azov and remnants of Ukrainian regular troops retreated into the sprawling steel factory on the coast of Mariupol, where they were completely surrounded on April 21. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the military not to storm the complex but to blockade it “so a fly can’t get inside” and compel the militants to surrender. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu informed Putin on Friday of the successful completion of the operation, Konashenkov said. He also said that Azov commander had to be transported in an armored car for his safety. In a video released on social media earlier in the day, Azov commander Svyatoslav “Kalyna” Palamar denied he had left the factory and said he was conducting a “certain operation” whose details he could not disclose. Palamar thanked “the world” and Ukraine for support, and signed off with “see you.” After the first batch of militants surrendered on Monday, the government in Kiev announced the “end of combat operations” in Mariupol and said it had ordered the Azovstal troops to save their lives. President Volodymyr Zelensky personally said on May 18 that the “evacuation mission” from Azovstal was being “supervised by our military and intelligence officers” with the involvement of “the most influential international mediators.” Both Ukraine and most Western media outlets avoided the word “surrender,” even when the Russian military published videos clearly showing the militants laying down their weapons. Turkey wants to 'avoid being on Russia’s target list later The authoritarian, Islamist leader of the Republic of Turkey delivered a shot in the arm to embattled Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin this week, by threatening to block the accession of Finland and Sweden to the NATO military alliance. Some observers believe Russian influence with Ankara could be one of the factors behind Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s declaration regarding the two Nordic nations, and not just Turkish complaints against them being a kind of haven for Kurdish refugees, which it views as terrorists. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine Turkey has not sanctioned Russia, unlike most NATO members who have. It has reportedly become a safe haven for Russian oligarch money and it has already thumbed its nose up to the U.S. when it purchased Russia S-400 air missile defense system which led to U.S. sanctions in 2020. U.S. officials raised alarm bells that the S-400 deal with Russia could endanger NATO security and jeopardize American-Turkey intelligence sharing. Marshall Billingslea, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and a former assistant Secretary General of NATO, told Fox News Digital, "It is important to understand that Turkey is playing the same game today that it is always has played in the region with respect to Turkey taking stances that benefits its own interests and run counter to NATO’s." He continued that Ankara is an "independent actor and took stances that had benefits for the Russians," Billingslea said. He cited one telling example when Russia invaded Georgia in 2008 and Turkey closed access to the Black Sea. The closure prevented U.S. naval vessels from aiding Georgia. However, Turkey’s independence of action also means it delivered drones to Ukraine, the NATO expert noted. The Turks work "to benefit their interests," he said. Theodore Karasik, a fellow on Russian and Middle Eastern Affairs at the Jamestown Foundation in Washington, told Fox News Digital that Turkey wants to "avoid being on Russia’s target list later." Erdogan recently announced the return of Syrian refugees living in Turkey back to their country, and Russia’s cooperation is necessary for this due to its strong presence in the Syrian Arab Republic, noted Karasik. The Turkish and Russian "struggle over shipping issues" could be an additional worry for Erdogan, said Karasik. If the Western powers sanction Russian vessels, Ankara could be confronted with demands to close the vital Dardanelles shipping route to Russia’s maritime industry," he continued. Karasik added that Erdogan is "using the Finnish and Swedish applications to garner favors from other countries so Turkey benefits in the end." Erdogan’s efforts to destabilize the NATO alliance gained traction after a segment of the Turkish military launched an unsuccessful coup against him in 2016. Russia accused of making 'food a weapon' by UK following pleas for Putin to reopen ports Russia is "making food a weapon" in the war in Ukraine, the UK's foreign office has said, following calls for Vladimir Putin to reopen ports in the country. "Countries around the world are suffering as a result," it added. The allegation comes after the US accused Russia of "weaponising" food and holding grain, for millions of people around the world, "hostage". Yesterday, the UN pleaded for Moscow to reopen key Ukrainian Black Sea ports to allow for the transport of food supplies. Head of the UN World Food Programme, David Beasley said: "I ask President Putin, if you have any heart at all, to please open these ports... so that we can feed the poorest of the poor and avert famine". Russia replied by saying that the removal of sanctions will have to be considered in order for it to open its access to the ports. Ukraine is one of the world's biggest grain producers and used to export most of its goods through its seaports prior to the war. https://news sky com/story/ukraine- news-live-turkey-will-not-approve-finland-and-swedens-nato-bids-ukrainian-fighters- leave-azovstal-steel-plant-in-buses-10-civilians-killed-by-russian-shelling-in-eastern-city-12541713

The Harpoon-3 main jamming and defection station in Ukraine.
|
Russia’s Harpoon-3 anti-drone electronic warfare (EW) system has been spotted with Russian troops in Ukraine for the first time. On May 18, a photo showing the main jamming and detection station of the Harpoon-3 system deployed in an unspecified part of Ukraine surfaced online. The Harpoon-3 was developed by the Automation Technology and Programming in Saint Petersburg to counter the threat of light and ultralight drones with EW means. The system was presented for the first time during the 2021 MAKS Air Show. The system comes with a radio-electronic gun that can suppress the communication and navigation channels of commercial drones. The Harpoon-3 system operates in the frequencies from 433 to 5800 MHz and has three modes of jamming. The first mode jams the frequencies of 488, 868 or 1200 MHz, suppressing the drone radio control channels. The second mode suppresses the drone’s satellite navigation signals at the frequencies of 1575, 2400 and 5200 MHz. The third mode blocks the frequencies of 433, 868 and 5800 MHz of the drone’s data-link. Depending on the jamming mode, the system can either force the drone to land or to return to the take-off site. The system has a maximum range of 2-3,5 kilometers[b] Kiev forces have been using light and ultralight commercial drone to monitor and even attack Russian forces since the beginning of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. The effectiveness of these drones was likely behind the Russian military’s decision to equip its forces in Ukraine with anti-drone systems like the Harpoon-3. It’s worth noting that the Russian military operates several types of anti-drone EW systems, which were developed in the recent years. Who let the dog out…. Stay away from cnn…. Even UN don Dey beg Putin to epp stop global hunger |
As we reported earlier, the UN has pleaded with Russia for it to open its ports after world hunger levels hit a "new high". David Beasley, head of the UN World Food Programme, said: "I ask (Russian) President Putin, if you have any heart at all, to please open these ports... so that we can feed the poorest of the poor and avert famine, as we've done in the past, when nations in this room have stepped up together." Now, Russia has said the removal of sanctions will have to be considered in order for it to open its access to Ukrainian ports, Interfax reported. Ukraine, one of the world's biggest grain producers, used to export most of its goods through its seaports. However, since Russia sent troops into the country, it has been forced to export by train or via its small Danube River ports. https://news sky com/story/ukraine-news-live-turkey-will-not-approve-finland-and-swedens-nato-bids-ukrainian-fighters-leave-azovstal-steel-plant-in-buses-10-civilians-killed-by-russian-shelling-in-eastern-city-12541713

Musk also warned that if US ignores 'obvious' cause of inflation, it could end up like Venezuela Tesla CEO Elon Musk, whose purchase of Twitter remains ongoing, slammed President Biden in a podcast interview Monday and warned that if the government continues printing money, inflation will get worse and the U.S. might follow the path of Venezuela. Musk, who said he has voted "overwhelmingly for Democrats," slammed the Democratic Party and Biden in particular. He suggested that Biden is something of an empty suit. "The real president is whoever controls the teleprompter," the Tesla CEO said. "The path to power is the path to the teleprompter." "I do feel like if somebody were to accidentally lean on the teleprompter, it's going to be like Anchorman," the CEO added, referencing the 2004 film in which Ron Burgundy reads whatever is written on the teleprompter, even if it would ruin his career This administration doesn't seem to get a lot done," Musk said. "The Trump administration, leaving Trump aside, there were a lot of people in the administration who were effective at getting things done. He also claimed that the Democratic Party is "overly controlled by the unions and by the trial lawyers, particularly the class action lawyers." He argued that when Democrats go against "the interests of the people," it tends to come from the unions and the trial lawyers, while when Republicans do that, "it's because of corporate evil and religious zealotry." "In the case of Biden, he is simply too much captured by the unions, which was not the case with Obama," Musk said. The Tesla CEO defended Obama as "quite reasonable," but insisted that Biden prioritizes the unions ahead of the public. The Tesla CEO also weighed in on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's claim that the White House has resorted to "misdirection" in order to "muddy the topic" of inflation. "I mean, the obvious reason for inflation is that the government printed a zillion amount of more money than it had, obviously," Musk said, echoing Republican critics who claim that Biden's American Rescue Plan COVID-19 relief stimulus bill contributed to the near-40-year-high inflation the U.S. experienced in April. https://www foxbusiness com/politics/elon-musk-biden-real-president-teleprompter Seun Mynd44 Lalasticlala Make una move am to front page

Berlin reportedly aims to find new oil suppliers and resolve logistical problems within six to seven months Germany plans to ditch Russian oil imports by the end of the year, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday, citing anonymous sources familiar with the issue. The measure will apparently be adopted whether or not the EU reaches a consensus on a Russian oil embargo. The German Chancellor’s Office is now in talks with alternative suppliers and Berlin is confident it will be able to resolve all remaining issues within six to seven months, according to Bloomberg. The sources did not reveal which nations could replace Russian oil supplies to Germany. Before the start of Moscow’s military operation in Ukraine, 35% of Germany’s oil imports came from Russia. Since the conflict broke out, Berlin has cut that figure down to 12%. The news agency said Germany’s biggest challenge will be supplying a key refinery, currently relying solely on Russian imports. The Schwedt facility provides fuel to most filling stations in the capital, as well as the surrounding state of Brandenburg and the city’s international airport. German authorities reportedly plan to use an old pipeline linking the Schwedt refinery to the northern port city of Rostock, but that would require an upgrade for the infrastucture, which currently only has the capacity to meet 60% of the facility’s needs. Oil can be delivered to Rostock from a national reserve, located near another port, Wilhelmshaven. An alternative route being considered by the government would see a Bavarian refinery covering Berlin airport’s fuel demand. Earlier, German Economics Minister Robert Habeck warned that the eastern part of Germany might face petrol shortages if oil supplies from Russia are cut off as part of an EU-wide embargo. On Sunday, regional environment ministers suggested introducing a motorway speed limit for a “limited period” as a way to reduce fuel consumption and dependency on Russian imports. Germany is one of the few nations that does not have such a limit. The EU is, meanwhile, still debating the next round of anti-Russia sanctions. On Friday, several media outlets reported that the restrictions are unlikely to include an oil embargo because of Hungary’s resistance.

The country has earned roughly $20 billion per month from crude exports this year Russia's oil export revenue has jumped some 50% since the beginning of 2022, Bloomberg reports, citing data from the International Energy Agency (IEA). According to the agency’s monthly market report, Moscow has earned some $20 billion each month this year from sales of crude oil and oil-related products. The earnings growth came despite Western sanctions over Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. As part of these penalties, the US banned all Russian oil imports, the EU and UK announced plans to scrap all purchases of Russian crude by the end of the year, and international oil giants such as Shell and TotalEnergies vowed to stop buying oil from the country. However, according to the IEA, Russian shipments have only increased – by some 620,000 barrels per day compared to March to 8.1 million in April, returning to their average before the Ukraine crisis and the ensuing sanctions. Due to increased demand, more shipments were directed toward Asia, with China and India claiming supplies that were previously destined to go elsewhere, according to the agency. In addition the EU, despite its stance, has so far remained the largest market for Russian fuel with 43% of the country’s oil exports going to the bloc in April, the IEA said. According to the agency, global energy markets, already tight due to uncertainty over Russian crude, may encounter further headwinds, with the combination of a European embargo on Russian oil and a demand rebound from China as Covid-19 lockdowns are lifted. The agency estimates that global supplies, which were already down by around 1 million barrels a day last month, might lose three times as much in the second half of the year.
