hadeytee: Hello there landers. Please I would like to know if there is some sort of educational loan available for anyone trying to study abroad ; Canada precisely? Or scholarships? I have searched and searched online but have been unsuccessful. Pls help its rather urgent, thanks Canada i don't know about i am sure if you search well you will find try checking in directly with the schools and check how their scholarships are.. The only student loans i know about are for American citizens thou an international student can get it an American citizen or resident has to cosign.. for their scholarships there are numerous full ride scholarship in the USA colleges and universities you just need a good gp and good scores in external exams like SAT if you're going for undergrad... Also you can check Education USA there are lots of resources there i wish i found but i just recently learnt of there lots of schools and scholarships there with the requirements you can go to the usa students visa thread if you wanna learn more on US education or check Canadian thread if you wish to still apply to canada... canada to is great ! |

11Anonymous: All I've been saying and still saying is that there should be a subscription of ₦100 for 100MB, ₦200 for 200MB and so on, and should last for a month. It will greatly benefit those that don't have ₦1k to sub. there is no 100 for 100 but there is 200 for 200 Nd 500 for 500 on etisalat and Airtel.. last which month? oga no make your condition affect our destiny oh so we should now be paying 1k for 1gb instead of 3gb abi? abeg manage your 10 10mb abeg |

Ability247: Abuja again. Lagosismyhome will call them world people. My brother nothing is wrong with your responses. Her only issue was with the statement. go to lagos and if possible, add that three of you will be sharing the burden, then get your own personal statement too. You may also get letter from your mum and brother stating that they are willing to sponsor you to any extent you need, and get a lawyer to notarize the letters. This may not be needed and the lagos people may not even ask you of any document, but just in case. You really can't have too much documents. you guys need to consider that going to lagos may not still change the fact he/she can still get denied i feel the real reason why he was denied had to do with his sponsorship from his uncle in the USA if it was just his mum it shouldn't have drawn so much attention to the VO and for what ever reason that there was an administrative decision they might have the data of why he/she was denied so my advice goo and work on how you can fix your sponsorship details if you don't have it on your I-20 already good luck! ps all of you that are shouting abuja please leave my abuja alone |

Goldenboy007: @Everest.. I replied you and I replied the rest too. Also if your question is not confidential please put it here so that others can learn too. We are all learning.
Thank you guys...The best gift anybody can give you as a new resident in US is correct information.
Buying used cars from Craigslist to save money as new US residents
This is one of the best resource available to you. Buying on Craigslist has its do's and don'ts - One thing you need to know is that auto repair is very expensive in the US, in fact a problematic car can ruin you. If you are managing your savings then go for the Honda or Toyota, they are work horses. Also do not be too bothered about the mileage because the auto maintenance culture in US is fantastic. Some vehicles can go up to 300,000 miles, however try to buy within the 190,000 miles limit. Different States in US have different rules on car registration. In Illinois you need to do emission test every 2 years for most vehicles except the very new ones. So if you buy a car with "Check Engine" light you may have to pay for repairs soon. In New Jersey I think you need to certify for road worthiness immediately, so please check google for the requirement in your state. Another strong warning - avoid cars sold by Mexicans (apologies to Mexicans) or Middle East race (Syrians and Co), most of these guys are shrewd. They have our sense too ..lol. Most of their cars are tampered with, especially the mileage. Invest in Carfax...and that is if they will release the VIN of their cars. Target the "white American" sellers that live in the suburbs, they take care of their cars well and they are mostly truthful about the condition of the cars. Our Naija people sef dey craigslist o, if you send money to them, your name will turn to sorry! lol. Check to ensure the cars have clean titles, be careful of salvage or rebuild. Car Auctions are available too but you must have auction license (and some Licenses are export only) If you have further questions on this you can ask them here so that others will learn.
Another area you can save money is Auto Insurance - Please shop around for the cheapest auto Insurance and stick to state minimum which is called Liability only. However drive with sense, accidents that results in legal cases can send you back to MMIA. If you buy a newer car please do your full insurance.
Driving license in US - Different states with different rules - Please go to google to find out whichever applies to you - I heard Illinois allows you to drive with International License for 90 days but please confirm. However you will need to do a driving test; written and practical. New Jersey may give you credit if you have Nigerian driving license. North Carolina do not accept international driving License but they will allow you sit for driving test - even with a visitors visa. Please take note you cannot leave your vehicle without license plate - you will get a ticket - I learnt the hard way. If you have kids then you will need to buy a car. Also take note that driving in US is very very very very very very different from driving in Nigeria - Tickets can send you back to MMIA.
I have several other hints to talk about - Renting affordable apartment guidelines, buying house - what to know, furnishing your house, Getting education, Should you go drive a Taxi, working in corporate America, etc. Then I have advice for those coming on student visa (F1) and the potential new hurdles with working on H1B visa. I make out time from my busy time for these posting so bear with me - To be continued.
Please be free to ask any question or add your contribution, I will answer those I can. And please stick to Nairaland rules !!! i cant wait for the prospective f1 student advice i dont know why there is no thread for f1 students in the USA only visa issues they do share advices once in a while though Fall semester loading.....loads of info in here thank you for dedicating your time to do this |

i'll advice going to IT schools to learn coding is not a good idea . for stuffs like networking sha you can because you'll have access to some equipments which you really need i feel ..i did aptech web design thou i had already bin playing with html css and Jscript so i blend in really well and the staffs thought i was sharp but it was because i had exprience thats to tell you that their regurlar students were lagging i was part time and to be honest i went there thinking i'll be taught advanced stuffs my issue was manipulating DOMs with jscript which i later learnt on sololearn may God bless the creator if i only i took the app seriously i would have done better since but i was just fantacizing about aptech and Niit..i met a partime java student who has been there for 5 months learming java meanwhile their regular students have done a lot of chapters in a week and at the end they couldnt even run a javac the partime student is their tutor he learned by downloading videos and not the powerpoint they will be reading to you guys....seriosly its just a crash course where you'll learn lots of stuffs in a brief moment and at the end cant print hello world so save that money if you wanna learn software developing use it to buy data and go to online schools like freecodecamp and codecademy like i did they have a facebook commumity where people who have faced your problem or facing will be there to help not to forget the chat community on the site itself i am currently designing a website for a student who did webdesign in their first semester at aptech |
