Bros i have noticed your comments on posts like this. i first noticed you in a thread by that guy that migrated from warri to a Scandinavia country. i really appreciate your work here regarding the advice you gave concerning acquisition of certain skills to enable us survive over there.
I have been reading this thread since last year and this is my first comment on it ans bros na question i wn ask abeg find time take answer me.

I have an Elder bro in the US, he is a citizen. The last time we talked about traveling abroad my dad wasted money and it didn't work. My bro told me to apply for a community college, i did. i even took a TOEFL exam and i scored 88 and i had to beg an uncle of mine for statement of account. Bros that was the end, i didn't even apply for visa and my bro didn't even give me any further instructions. Now am in my 3rd year in school and i want to travel abroad after school. The OP mum is a citizen and she filled for him to come over there. My bro is a citizens cant he even send me invitation visa first so i can leave this place before he files for a green card for me...My future in this country isn't clear for now at all.
there's no such thing as invitation visa there's tourist visa which you can get. Invitations are very obsolete. also your brother might not feel like sponsoring you on your request and the thing is you can't force him .
You can finish your school and go for your masters there then you don't have to depend on any body and their bulshit
What if you didn't have a relative there what will you now do ?

@LagosismyHome and others

pls I applied to Bowie State University, proposed resumption date is 25th January, and up till now, I haven't heard or received any info about my i-20 for months now.
Although an inside guy a week ago saw my name on the admission list.

wat do I do?
lol an inside guy grin I hope it's not your uncle oh else you might be doomed ....
He saw your name on admission list and you resume 25th and them never send you acceptance letter ( lol here is not naija oh that your friend will go and check admission list for you ) what if that inside man actually saw your name and deleted it grin
Personaly I don't recommend schools that don't respond soon enough though most time it's the staff's not the school and sometimes they can be out office and sometimes a simple call can fix everything
Also it sounds like you only applied to one school prolly because inside man said he will work the admission for you

Please i need someone to guide me through on how to apply for an international scholarship, the requirement and qualification.
There is no general form to apply for international scholarship .
First apply to the instiition you want to and they will decide if you qualify for their scholarships based on your academics performance and requirements .
You can also apply for external scholarships (the so called international scholarship) and I'm sure there will instructions to guide you on the applications.
Now you may wonder (where can you find these scholarships self) check most schools financial aid link, you'll see their schorlaships and grants and other external sources that can provide these scholarships. But I tell you since when them born me I haven't seen or heard of any beneficiary of these internation scholarships. Doesnt mean there aren't any. it's just that most of them require one to be attending some specific schools

yes,

But I will like to know the actual amount that may be needed for the whole stuffs ... Pls
well depending on how many schools he wishes to apply too
Application fee ranges from $30-70 some schools are higher
Sevis fee $200
Visa application $160/200 (64k)
Shipping of i-20 $100 max
Some schools do require some deposit it can range from $200 and above
International passport #35,000(i heard last time)
Sending documents to the schools you gotta pay postal service from 20k and above depending on how many times he sends docs
Is he taking standardized test they range from 50k above (for SAT its around there idk for GRE )
Maybe WES evaluation maybe required (idk how much that is I think it's $200 dollars I'm not sure )
Requestion Transcripts from previous institution (let's assume 10k and above)
You can do the conversions and see how much it is and will give you the estimated range it will cost if he has to do all these (NOTE some of the above information are might not be accurate )

One thing I noticed since my arrival in the USA is that all Nigerians try so hard to talk like the Americans. I think it's a bad orientation. We have Americans in Nigeria and I don't see them trying to speak like us.. I think it's a slave mentality by the way. We feel inferior. I will retain my African accent. If I have children in the USA then they can claim to be Americans but I am a Nigerian man.
lol better arrive quietly and mind your business oh if you choose to speak like them na your choice if you don't na your choice I wonder how you are able to talk sef in this cold grin grin

Dude I have used a student loan b4 citizens bank to be precised. Unless you're using a loan company amongst all the previously mentioned prodigy finance and co or your school has partnership with any loan company then you can use all the informations from earlier references but if you're using the regular salie mae and and discover which is now under citizens bank and others all you need is to check previous mention of you

Isn't this what I just said?

This is my first comment on this, and I do not even understand your gibberish.

ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL.
I guess you did not do any economics in school. This is a "Ceteris Paribus" argument. Obviously we would be comparing the exact same loan profile except for the co-signer part.

What are you not understanding about this?
Lol you won't understand by gibberish because its not supposed to make sense to you also I'm not doing this because I enjoy chit chats I just wanna make it clear that there are different kinds of loans out there and dependin on which one u choose , the documents cannot be used as a proof of fund at the embassy or school .

Teedawg Please just forget this loan issue, its obvious these guys cant comprehend simple write up..They keep talking and giving examples about loans that don't require cosigner when the main point and bone of contention is a loan facility with cosigner. No one is arguing whether or not you can use prodigy or whatever as proof of fund. But saying you will go to the embassy with Salie mie and the rest that require cosigner in the US is misleading and I wont agree to until you bring forth a proof. The main point of F1 visa interview is to proof intent of not immigrating and show ties.
I tire oh...

On the student loans issue.

I will just say that getting student loans is a very acceptable way of paying for your education. In fact, the vast majority of Americans pay for school with the use of debt. Where I work, many people have gone for MBA programs with a combination of personal funds, partial scholarship, and student loans - with loans constituting the highest proportion. The loans have been either US loans or International loans like Prodigy.

In fact, last August two colleagues went to MBA programs at Duke and Wharton; they both took loans. The Duke lady took a Discover loan (last I checked this was a US company) with no US cosigner. But there are some nuances to this because the MBA program has a understanding with some of the banks and lending agencies to fund their students and disbursements are made to the University directly so there is no need for all that SEVIS, SSN thing.

The bottom line is that extremely few people have USD200,000 to pay for MBA program so many take loans. If you get accepted to the Kellogg or Columbia MBA, they will let you know about all the loan options available to you.

In Nigeria, we are very averse to loans and debt; and we generally believe things we cannot pay for outright are not for us. That is why many here just shun loans totally.

The real difference between a loan that is co-signed and one that isn't is the interest rates, co-signed loans are usually cheaper.
Dude no one here is saying student loans are bad or not .. Or American company or not its simple the loan companies people have mentioned so far are in agreement with school thats why the companies mostly have a list of schools you can go to using their loans. They are not mostly like traditional loans the Americans you keep talking about use. You can't use prodigy pre approval and apply to a different school they don't associate with. Also cosigned loans aren't cheaper it depends on how much you borrow the payment rate you choose and how long you choose to repay.

Prodigy Finance and MPower Finance give non-cosigner loans to Nigerians and they use their pre-approval letters to get visas without issues. I have shown examples of people here that got such loans. Why the fuss? If you cant get financial aid or SOA, you can get loans. Indians have been doing it since time immemorial without issues, Nigerians have been doing it and we have seen them here.

Nawao, make we die matter jare.
Prodigy finance is not an American company its the same as getting a loan from micro finance bank or where ever in your country second its easier to get a loan after your first year also these cooperation mostly offer loans to students going for graduate studies or are at least not in the first year of college . Now the companies that offer loans to first year students like discover, sallie, and co don't do that. List the amount of Nigerians you know that have used these companies pre approval as proof of funds at the embassy and school or even the so called prodigy finance. The Indians you keep talking about are not Nigerians and mostly have a different system if it was so easy we would have had a lots of stories we won't even be having this conversation
Also I am not saying this based on hear says alone.

VOs and school officials are well aware of the fact that no education loan is totally approved until you start schooling, that's why people have gotten I-20s and even visas from the pre-approval letter. The fact that you're borrowing the money from the US does not make any difference at all, money is money irrespective of where it is borrowed from and that is why money can be sent to anywhere in the first place. Had it been that you must stay in the US to pay your loan, US govt would have barred international students from taking loans from their banks in the first place. My advice for fwesh is to use the loan approval doc if he can't see a legal SOA from a close relative. Don't forge documents if you can't get a legal SOA. people have gotten visas with loan, I don't see why your case should be different.
the reason international student are granted loans in the first place is because they have an American citizen or resident as a cosigner so indirectly they are not giving international student the loan but their cosigners. Government can not control the banks decision to lend money to whom ever they want to that's (have you heard of capitalism?)Second he can't even get the loan if he doesn't have his sevis number from his i-20 which he won't get until he provides the school with his proof of funds from a bank statements. Other students from India and wherever have acces to loans that they don't need an American cosigner to be granted .

Thank you, I haven't applly for the loan yet my co-signer want me to be sure if it would be consid7ered at the embassy...#proveoffund
sir your loan not will not be considered as a proof of fund because you have to provide the lending company your visa b4 they can process the loan b4 u get approved .. So the only documents you may have to even use at the embassy is a pre approval letter of your loan which they may not consider as proof of funds. The second reason has been pointed out by someone here earlier You can't payback your loan except you work in the USA that means you have the intention of migrating which does not qualify you for an f1 visa .
You can get a soa from your family because even the school needs your soa b4 they provide you with i20 and all if u haven't gotten all those docs from the school you can't even apply for the loan talk less of a visa .
Good luck
