Model and design
The final design will be ready soon, here are some pictures i found online that is guiding my own design .

Here are some key features and I’ll love to get feedback.
Exterior finishing Read clay bricks.
— According to my research great for heat/ thermal insulation.
— maintenance free
Roof choice I’m busy fighting my architect and engineer.. I’m wanting to go with flat roof with polystyrene insulation. They want me to go naija style and have tall roof- “I call it mansion in the roof” there is no restriction…I don’t understand the need for those super tall roof. If someone can explain better how is it relevant in Nigeria especially with relation to heat control.

Water survey and Borehole
I called my friend who’s into borehole. His helped me drill before. Luckily they had a project in the neighborhood and quickly came for survey. We pin point the best water location which is at the end of the property. The next day him and his crew were on site to drill.
Not the easiest drill, we ended up at 80 meters!!

Lots of rocks… talk about building your house on a solid rock!!

The location is confirmed
See attached image.
The property is slightly longer than my neighbor. It’s a deadend so the gate will be on the long side.

PropertiesDutch Style Houses In Abuja Nigeria by teetopsy(op): 11:30pm On Apr 17, 2022
Hi Nairalanders, I’m setting up this thread to document my adventure in trying to build a simple Dutch style house in Nigeria specifically Abuja.

I’m based in the Netherlands and frequently visit Abuja. Most of the development will be done when I’m around.

I will be experimenting a lot with various materials and methods of building. The aim is to create a house that doesn’t get too hot during the hot days.

I’m not a professional builder!! Just a software guy who doesn’t mind getting hands dirty.

I look forward to receiving help and advice on this forum, I’ve followed spyder880 and learnt a lot from his post.
